Jana Duggar, now Jana Wissmann, has been married for almost three months. As most of you know, she left her home in Arkansas for a new life in Nebraska, where she lives with her husband, Stephen Wissmann. Jana just uploaded a new video that features wedding planning, her final weeks at home on the Duggar "farm," wedding dress alterations, and more renovations on her Nebraska fixer upper.

Didn't we already see the wedding dress, shopping and rennovations in the previous videos?
ReplyDeleteYou do realize the wedding was three months ago, right? There's no need to keep talking about it.
ReplyDeleteDo the Duggars only marry people from approved, familiar families? There are so many crossovers with these weddings and shared family or friend relationships among fundamentalists. Is it because they don't associate with a wide range of people?
ReplyDeleteI believe you know the answer!
DeleteI grew up in Fundamentalism but i was never in a sheltered bubble like the Duggar kids were as far as who they played with and associated with on a regular basis. I think that was detrimental to them. However most people will marry people who move in the same circles as them. That's not unusual. I mean historically, most people married people who they grew up with, went to school with, went to church with, or lived within a certain x amount of miles radius. And actually i think, becasue of the show, the Duggars came in contact with a wider range of people then most other Fundamentalists would have ever done. It was just the day to day associating that was overly strictly controlled. At least that's my takeaway.
Delete8:07 it looks like from the picks of their spouses they were interested in marrying a Christian, not necessarily a denomination.
Delete@9:40 Yeah that's my parents to a tee. My mom and her three siblings, with the exception of one, all married people that were from their community. She, her sibs and all their spouses went to the same schools and played sports together. Different churches yes, but belief systems were similar.
Delete@9:04 But the Duggars are only marrying people who were part of their very inner circle, people who were allowed at The Big House. That's not a wide range! Remember viewers going back and spotting future spouses in older videos taken at the house? Videos before there were courtships or engagements on the horizon? And historically, it was not always true that people married locals. Mail order brides and paying women to move to territories were real things. Girls in the 1940's and 50's often went to college to meet a husband, very much encouraged by their parents who ideally would send their daughters to the Seven Sisters schools to catch an Ivy League husband. That shifted to meeting spouses in the workplace in the 60's and 70's as more single women started working, often with that workplace being far from home (think "Mary Tyler Moore Show"). You no longer have to marry the boy or girl "next door" and if you're not sheltered like the Duggars are, you'll be meeting all sorts of people with different backgrounds.
Delete@7:36 As i already said, i was not in a sheltered bubble nor am i today. Today my social life is a bit to be desired, but that is largely due to my having no church at the moment, but get around and i meet a lot of different people in my own community and elsewhere. And i didn't say the Duggars picked from a wide range. I said most people marry people who move in the same circles. That included(s) community (i.e. the boy/girl next door), church, college, jobs etc. So really people still today pick spouses within the range of their circle whatever it may be. The mail order brides was unique for the time becasue so few women lived on the frontier and men needed wives. The closest thing we have to that today is online dating websites. I personally do not like online dating, but that's me.
DeleteI know this is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to Jana, but I think she's gone into overkill and needs to stop posting these repetitive videos.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why she has felt the need lately to share her living quarters, whether the tiny house or this one. Seems like someone who hired security for her wedding would be more worried about daily security at her home.
DeleteI love the videos and I’m sure many more do as well. There are thousands of youtubers, so different people can select videos according to their tastes.
DeleteShe is slowly rolling out different aspects of the wedding planning and renovating, which is the way she chooses to post. I personally really enjoy process videos—I watch a variety of YouTube videos of people slowly renovating. I find it soothing when I choose to relax for a few minutes watching tv.
So to each their own and Jana is appealing to a certain audience that enjoys her type of content.
I remember a time when Michelle's knees needed to be blurred out when she was on water skis. How things have changed...or was it all a show back then?
ReplyDelete@1:56 Just need to keep the thighs covered and everything's good. Worrying about knees is overkill. Michelle may have come to realize that. Although i personally prefer skirts longer then knee length.
DeleteOr since is a adult they let her do what she wanted and let few things slide and be so stict.
Delete8:28 Are you saying that all along, Jana wanted to show knees and shoulders and necklines in public, the way she does now? That her parents were too strict? That it's OK for a woman to show skin? A woman who co-wrote a book about modesty and purity? There's some kind of conflict there.
DeleteWow, what a fun time to plan for your wedding with Jessa, she was an amazing matron of honor. The little girls are so adorable brushing your hair. You and Stephen are like the energizer bunny…you really made that worn out house look like your home. I’m so glad the door was open to your pantry, I was wondering how big it is, looks roomy.
ReplyDeleteNext Jana will be pregnant.
ReplyDeleteI hope she doesn't go from having to raise her siblings right into motherhood. She deserves some time away from parenting.
DeleteOr not....
DeleteI’d really like to see a wedding planning video with Johanna or Jennifer.
