Renovating Jana's Kitchen

Jana loves renovations and says she is in her element when she is doing design projects. She and Stephen are married now, but she just posted a video showing footage of the two of them working on their fixer upper house, with some help from family members.

  1. She does a great job. The new layout of the kitchen is so much more functional and the new cabinets are gorgeous.

  2. Very nice. Very pretty. I like the color but we can't have a white kitchen because of all our messy hands and fingers--Mom, Dad, 3 kids. I'm sure Jana and Stephen will be fine in their beautiful kitchen.

  3. Intesting. Jana shows home remodel, Jinger announces pregnancy, Jana shows more home remodel.

    1. Everything was a secret before the wedding (the guy, the courtship, the engagement, and the wedding).

  5. I thought her brothers did "such a professional job" of installing those cabinets. Then why all the wood fill all over the place? Looks like she had to use quite a lot of it to fix where things didn't fit flush to each other or to the walls. I had a whole kitchen installed and I don't have any wood fill. Her windowsills don't look like they fit right either. Very DIY.

    1. Yeah. I thought it odd that the "custom cabinets" didn't quite fit in the spaces they were supposed to go into. A cabinet maker friend built custom cabinets for our kitchen remodel and they fit perfectly into the spaces they were built for without needing all sorts of adjustments.

    2. Always a critic. They did a great job. Remember positive is so much better than negative.

    3. It's OK to question, especially after you've been told something was so "professionally" done and then you see the results with your own eyes.

    4. Sometimes when doing a reno, the original build is not quite “square” and you have to adjust, add wood fill etc. My husband had to do it on our “custom built” home.

  6. So I saw a couple of videos. Was she already living with the fiancé before they got married?

    1. No she traveled their with other family members and when she stayed over they were in another room....please read and watch and don't spread rumors.

    2. asking a question is not spreading a rumor. I am happy this person asked a question if he/she was not sure.

  7. All that mess and trouble they went to. They could have had decent finished cabinets installed by a professional and it probably wouldn't have cost any more if you figure time, materials, and labor. The kitchen cabinets I have come in wood already painted that color!

    2. I think it did look like a lot of work for something I recently saw available at a kitchen remodel store. Not Lowe's or Home Depot, but a real kitchen and bath business. Perfectly sound cabinets in cream color if that's what they were trying for.

  8. Wow..it is amazing how much work you got done in two months, besides planning a wedding. Looks like you both are perfectionist and really enjoyed all the elbow grease to transform this home. Everything, including the custom built cabinets to the beautiful granite were first class. Having all the doors and draws out of the kitchen cabinet shows how much detail there was to painting them all. Nice that Stephen has done painting commercially, it showed in his eye for detail. Enjoy your beautiful home you created.

    1. I have a strong suspicion that this remodel took way more than two months. I personally prefer natural wood cabinets, but if they wanted white cabinets then they should have them.

    2. Justine,I would certainly miss you. If you read the comments on here so far, some of them are rude and judgemental towards the Duggars. There will be more comments like that as the days go on.Those are not the kind of people you should ever worry about. They aren't worth your time. Not sure why this website attracts such ugly people but it has absolutely nothing to do with you. I look forward to your comments. Always have. Remember you can't control how other people behave, that's up to the ladies who run this website. They don't have to publish mean spirited comments, but they do for whatever reason. You keep doing you because your a lovely enthusiastic lady and very much appreciated! ❤️

  10. I can't believe they did all that paint spraying and never wore respirators, not even a face mask! They must have inhaled a ton of paint. Ewww!

  11. I don't consider cabinets that need to be sealed and painted custom cabinets. Also the fit seemed to be a tad off which made installation harder. However, once the project was complete the kitchen looked lovely.

    1. It is interesting to see what a good role model Jana is. She is just going ahead with her projects and making a life for herself and her family oblivious to the nay sayers. She has a positive, strong focus. I think she always was free indeed and I think she always has counted the cost before she proceeds. She is making us all ya'll crowd less lonely and more happy.

    2. If someone came out and measured then made cabinets from scratch specifically for that house, then yes. But it they measured and found some pre-fab cabinets that would probably fit if filler boards or wood filler were used later, then no. If they were made from scratch by someone off-site, then they should have been primed and painted off-site too, before delivery.

    3. Jana is diy, if it's in her options she can save by telling the makers just what work she wants them to do. Jana and others can finish the job!

    4. I don't think those were actually custom cabinets. Most likely they ordered unfinsihed cabinets that would fit in the spaces they wanted them to go in. Much cheaper than custom cabinets built by a cabinet maker.
