Jason Duggar's Wedding

Jason Duggar married Maddie Grace yesterday in Newport, Tennessee. Maddie is a Tennessee native, although the newlyweds will live in Arkansas. Their 300 guests were treated to Italian food, including cheesecake and ice cream, as the couple will honeymoon in Italy.

According to the People Magazine article about their wedding, Jason and Maddie "met" via social media in December 2023 and made their relationship public about five months later. Jason proposed on the beach on August 24th. Thirteen of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 19 children are now married. Since 2014, there have only been four years (2015, 2019, 2020, and 2023) in which the Duggar family did not have a wedding. So far, the most weddings they have had in one year has been two.

  1. It sounds like it was another one of those "Why not Joy?" decision moments.

    1. More like the usual Duggar romance where couple meets, instantly become "best friends", fall in love and get married in short order.

  2. Two weddings in less than 2 months. Michelle must be exhausted.

  5. Why would Michelle be exhausted. The bride and groom were married in Tennessee.. brides family pays for the wedding

    1. Not all bride’s families pay for the wedding! My husband and I paid for our own. My parents and his parents didn’t pay a dime!

  6. Why would Michelle be exhausted? She didn't go venue shopping or dress shopping with Jana and probably had little else to do with the planning. This wedding, she'd just be the MOG. So she only has to show up, wear something appropriate, and smile.

    1. Michelle is always heavily involved in everything that happens in the family. I doubt she "did nothing" but show up at Jason's wedding.

    2. Really 9:45? She never struck me as the type to participate in party planning. That was always left up to the girls and sometimes the boys, if it involved the use of heavy equipment. Plus this time, she wasn't the bride's mother, so there wasn't much to plan.

  7. Congratulations! The bridesmaids were Jason's sisters who live at home. Hope to see pictures of the bridesmaids.

  10. Congrats to the happy couple! I have noticed that the farther we get from the tv show, the less interest there is in the younger siblings; less comments for instance.

  11. I find it very frustrating that readers here receive no real information about the couples. We really do not know anything about the people Duggars are marrying anymore. Why are the weddings so publicized if information is not shared.

    1. The kids now have the freedom as adults to choose what they share. We should be happy for their freedom of choice.

    2. I wonder why People magazine is still interested in this family. They certainly know the disgrace that has happened. Seems the Duggars would be the third rail that magazines wouldn't touch. On a similar topic, why would the Duggars be interested in a "worldly" magazine like this. Their desire for money is definitely showing. Leaving nothing to do but shake heads all around.

    2. I thought it was interesting that he looked outside his parents' social circle for someone. I wonder what Jim Bob and Michelle thought about that.

    3. @9:01 perhaps JB and Michelle have grown and learned that having too much control is worse than letting the run wild.

  14. I want to know how they justified having dancing at this wedding. Maybe Jinger can cover that in an upcoming book.

    1. Apparently dancing is no longer a sin. lol

    2. @9:08 Nor is wearing pants, nor is wearing shorts, nor is showing shoulders and knees, nor is dating without a chaperone, nor is having an adult beverage, nor is dancing, nor is listening to "worldly" music, nor is reading "worldly" books, nor is having social media, nor is going to public school, nor is going to a public university, and is there anything else that we were told over and over was not allowed but obviously really is/was allowed? So what makes this family different than any other? I know plenty of families who allowed all that stuff from the start and didn't end up with a son in trouble too. Not sure how you explain that if you banned everything else mentioned because it was going to lead you down a wrong path.

    3. 4:51,those were the families rules when the kids were growing up. As adults it's only natural and right that they make their own rules about their lives.

      Delete
    4. 1:04 Then its natural and right that Jill not have anything to do with her father any more. Thanks for validating that.

  15. Jason met Maddie on a dating app and urged Jana to try it. My how things have changed in the Duggar world.

  16. Jill posted a video clip of Jason and Maddie’s wedding. OH MY WORD!!!! The music they were playing! Never in a million years would I have guessed a Duggar would be playing BeyoncΓ© and Soulja Boy and dancing at their wedding.

    1. At this point, we can pretty much forget everything they ever said on their TV show. So much for having your convictions. (I mean convictions in the moral sense, not in the legal sense.)

      Delete
    2. Well, you can’t exactly dance to Amazing Grace or It’s Through the Blood.

      Delete
    3. I'm glad Jill gets invited to these family weddings even though there's "rift" in the family.

      Delete
    4. I think people forget that it was the parents convictions that the show talked about. If you have kids and they grow up, you can't expect them to hold all the same convictions. Who knows maybe JB and Michelle have adjusted some of their conviction through the years.

      Delete
    5. @8:27 Those convictions were instilled in the kids and talked about endlessly in their books, including the book the girls supposedly wrote about themselves. If you "adjust" your convictions, then they really weren't convictions in the first place were they. They were simply some motions you were going through for some reason, without your heart really being in it. Perhaps they were only things someone told you that you had to do or believe. Without the power of your own convictions, you can fall prey to that.

    6. Convictions do change. Just as we change as we grow in the Lord, mature as adults and grow in our relationship with our spouse. I am not the same person I was in my 20’s and 30’s. My life experiences and my life with the Lord has changed how I view the world, what the Lord wants for my life and what is truly important and worth fighting for. My heart was truly in what I believed back then and I wasn’t going through the motions. What you are saying implies that we stay stagnant in our beliefs and we never grow and mature.

  17. Congratulations Jason and Maddie! Not surprised they got married so fast since this is the Duggar family we are talking about. Won't be long and there will be a pregnancy announcement from them. This now leaves James,Jackson,Johannah,Jennifer,Jordyn and Josie the only 6 Duggar's still single.

    1. Yes. In another 5 years Jim Bob and Michelle will probably be "empty-nesters".

    2. The last four unmarried girls might not be in a hurry to get married.

  18. Why get on here and say they were dancing to music the type of music what Jim Bob thought and Michele? Who cares what they thought it wasn't there wedding. They are adults that are getting married. Get over it already

    1. 7:36 Because it shows hypocrisy which is supposed to be as sinful as lying because it's being untrue to yourself.

    2. 4:54 Children grow up and become adults, making their own decisions. Just because the Duggar kids were taught that dancing was wrong when they were kids, doesn't mean they're obligated to agree with and put in practice those teachings as adults. And it doesn't make them a liar or hypocritcal if they don't.

  21. One of Esther‘s daughters who is the same age as M1, is staying there now. Presumably to take some of the stress off of the older M’s, who seem to know.

    1. Ester is Anna’s sister who is a missionary in Africa and has 18 kids. So her daughter would be a cousin to the M kids. M1& 2 apparently know the real scoop re heir dad, J1, and are stressed. The cousin’s job is to distract them. I don’t know her name; it’s Zimbawin.

Justine likes capital letters as they are easier for her, due to, her disability, but I wish she wouldn’t use them She is but one person and the rest of us are thousands of people who would prefer upper/ lower case as it’s easier to read. Imagine if a newspaper printed every article with all capital letters!
