Jana Surprises Stephen

Now that Jana Duggar is Mrs. Stephen Wissmann, let's look back at the couple's relationship. After dating for a short time a few years ago, Jana and Stephen went their separate ways. They each continued to live where they grew up, close to their (much larger than average) families. According to People Magazine, Jana started nursing school last year.

Then in early 2024, Stephen reached back out to Jana in the form of a handwritten letter. They rekindled their friendship, and Jana says she quickly fell in love with him. The engagement followed on June 15th, and the wedding took place exactly two months later at a beautiful venue (The Grand at Willow Springs) near her family's Northwest Arkansas home. The couple will start their new live together in Nebraska.

Jana just uploaded a video to YouTube that shows her making a surprise visit to Stephen while they were dating. Johannah Duggar, 18, and Jennifer Duggar, 16, went along to chaperone and help their sister drive through the night.

To see photos from the beautiful wedding, including shots of Jana with each of her parents, visit the People Magazine website.

  1. That timing sounds a little odd. I recently threw a party for 200 at a wedding venue in a small town area, probably smaller than where Jana is, and I had to book the venue a year in advance for a weekday night. It then took months to get invitations, food, decorations, and program printing worked out, along with a DJ and a professionally-made video. I can't imagine doing things like that between June and August, or getting dresses for all the girls, let alone a bridal gown. Plus having time to go surprise someone in another state? Something is not adding up with Jana's wedding timeline.

    1. Maybe that is why the wedding was on a Thursday. They took a day that was available instead of waiting a year or more for a Saturday date.

    2. You don't have to add anything up. Can't you just be happy for the gorgeous newlyweds?

    3. Yes, I was thinking that same thing. My daughter got married and had a guest list of 200 people. She and her fiance were married in our small town. It was the hometown for both of them and yet, our planning took at least 6 months. The church, pastors, bridal gown, wedding venue, etc. could not have been acquired in any less time. How did Jana and her fiance arrange a wedding in 2 months?

    4. That is probably why they got married on a Thursday.

    5. They have connections , and with both having a large family helping things get done .

    6. Every Duggar wedding has had this timeline, not just Jana’s.

    7. The Duggars have a history of putting together large, lavish weddings in a matter of 2 or 3 months. I'm not sure how they do it.

    8. Jana and her family as well as Stephen and his family are well known and that can help things happen. They are connected when it comes to photography and filming. The Venue may have had a mid week opening...they were not in her home town. I read online that her dress designer had to do a last minute emergency fitting, the bridesmaid dress were probably off the rack....like I said being well known and well connected can make things happen....why question it...enjoy the story.

    9. The way I understand it, the wedding was held on a week day. Venues are typically booked out on weekends.. same with DJ's and videographers. Sometimes, they give discounts for weekdays or off season weddings. And her husband's family made all the food. With her huge family, getting out invitations was likely not a huge problem.

    10. They often have friends and family help with everything instead of hiring professionals. it is possible to do

    11. 2:04. Jana is amazing..I’m not surprised she pulled it together..with lots of help. If she was married on a Thursday that was probably the only day of that week available. Since her DJ was her brother-in-law, that solved that problem. Since her husband’s side of the family did all the food themselves that solved the other big challenge. With all the family and friends the couple has, I’m sure they got lots of help..congratulations to the newlyweds.

    12. It was a new venue, so maybe they really lucked out with booking a weekday wedding before it got all booked up. And their name Duggar probably got the venue excited because they knew the family would provide a ton of free advertising. Probably got her wedding dress off the rack, the bridesmaid dresses from Kohl's, the grooms family cooked the food, the printing was done by a business express print company, and they probably have a garage full of decorations!!! It's possible!!!!!

    14. Most of the Dugger engagements have been very short! And with such a large family, they have plenty of people to help do things for the wedding!

    15. They got married on a Thursday. I can see a Thursday being available in such short notice. Plus they are the duggars I’m sure they had a wedding planner.

    16. There could have been some people behind the scenes who were quite happy and willing to pull strings to make the day all she dreamed of. Sometimes people do things out of kindness just because they want to and can. Also the dresses could have been sewn by quite a few different family members and extended family who sew or a seamstress who was more than happy to do it.I don't worry about it because it just doesn't matter.I just focus on how unbelievably happy they both look. Anyone who follows this family know that she dreamed of finding "The one" and it finally happened. Let's celebrate that.🥰😍😊

    17. Even if you get the venue on a Thursday on short notice, there are still a million and one wedding details to work out for an event like that. It's very hard to believe that it all fell into place in 8 weeks. And they had what - 500 people there? Who all happened to have that day free on such short notice, without a Save The Date card 6 months or more in advance? And who all were sworn to secrecy somehow? There's obviously more to this than that People story told.

    18. And to think they did it all while on Duggar Time too!

    20. I got engaged on Memorial Day and then married that same Labor Day weekend. Got a venue, dress, fitting for dress, cake, flowers, decorations, everything for a 300 person wedding done in that time. I designed and printed save the dates and got them out a weekish after we got engaged. Bought wedding invitations from a craft store and designed and printed those and got them out a few weeks later. It’s very doable. I’m a teacher so I had the summer off to plan and organize and find all the people we needed to find.

  2. In the video she wasn't engaged yet when she visited Stephen. The Duggars never have long engagements so it can be done. They had the wedding on a weeknight and I bet that was due to the short notice. They probably had a few weeknight dates available. Once you have the venue set, the other things can be done faster if you are willing to compromise on some things.

  3. So let me wrap my head around this alleged scenario. Jana and Stephen rekindled a friendship after Stephen wrote a handwritten letter earlier this year. Jana and required sibling chaperones then take a “surprise Stephen” trip based on a photo Stephen sent ( per the YouTube video) hoping to find Stephen where he then proposes with the old “ring pop” joke. Then within 2 months from June 15 to August 15 there was an actual engagement, upscale wedding venue booked, catering, bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses all miraculously available, and People magazine on hand. Okey-Dokey.

    2. If someone invited me to travel to a big wedding with less than 2 months' notice, I'd have a right jolly laugh. Then I'd wonder if I was going to be invited to a baby shower in another 2 months.

      Delete
    3. I know. The whole thing seems so staged. Driving over 400 miles to surprise someone is a bad idea. The person might not be home when you arrive or is too busy to entertain unexpected guests. I'm not sure what really happened but this is all so unreal, I'm not buying it.

      Delete
    4. 9:20. None of it is real. I’m not saying they aren’t legally married. But the whole thing is just Duggarville shenanigans for PR.

      Delete
    5. If these people can pull off that kind of wedding in 2 months' time, then they missed their calling as wedding coordinators. That falls into the "miracle" category of wedding planning.

      Delete
    6. I had a boyfriend who did something like that. Drove hours to surprise me at the beach when I was there with my best friends. Crashed our trip. Notice I said "had" a boyfriend, past tense. I did not appreciate the intrusion on what was supposed to be an all-girls trip. Maybe Jana had to go surprise Stephen to make sure there were no other women hanging around him??

    7. Jed & Katey were engaged Feb 14th and got married in early April. She even said she got it done in a month. They probably knew the owner and Jana’s friend Laura is a wedding planner. It can be done, especially if you aren’t stuck with 9-5 jobs like they are. They have way more flexibility and helping hands than most of us do. And Jana’s wedding was fairly simple. Simple florals, dress and dinner. Plus, they’re organized. I’m happy for them.

    8. It's comments like yours that caused me to stop coming to this blog site. There is already a Reddit page dedicated to those that don't like them. Can't there be a place without all these negative posts? Picking apart a Duggar story trying to find untruths or finding negatives about a nice video is just tiring. Do you really think she didn't know he was in town before she drove over there? You can surprise someone while still checking they haven't skipped town. Plus, there love story is not hard to believe at all and is actually what I predicted and hoped for them a while back. I hoped the rumored romance was true and they may get back together.

    9. 9:20 I agree, dropping in on someone far away to surprise them is bad form, whether or not you're engaged to them or about to be pretend engaged with a Ring Pop.

    1. Well Josh is out on committing to 11 children as he’s actually committed.

      Delete
    3. Please tell me you are joking! J*** does not even deserve the children he has, let alone any additional ones! Also, Jill and Joy have history of very difficult pregnancies. Having more kids can literally kill them. Abbie seems happy with two kids and Katey will have her hands full with the twins that are coming next year.

      Delete
    4. 11is a lot of kiddos to feed, house and support. If Jana was to have 11 children ..even if she started on the honeymoon that's one a year till she's 45. Be realistic!

      Delete
    5. If there is a goal, like 200 grandkids, then a plan is necessary. If having 11 kids is out of reach for some, then others should strive to have more than 11. Just so the average number of kids per person is 11.

      Delete
    6. No, that would not be so sweet to commit to anything of the sort.

      Delete
    7. yes, maybe in a cartoon TV series..... :D

    8. Wouldn't it be sweet if they all stopped having kids too. Jim Bob wouldn't be able to brag about having those 100 or 200 grandkids. He always seemed too proud of that idea and ready to take credit for it.

    9. At her age, it'd be hard to have 11 kids in the next ten years even if she wanted them, but God could make that happen as nothing is impossible with Him. At any rate, due to her age and the fact she is a twin, her chances of having twins are much higher. Whether she wants alot or a few, since she's in her mid thirties, she'd better get started. That's where I'm at in life. I'm not married yet, but if and when i do, i am NOT wasting any time. And being a twin and older, i hope i do have twins if and when i start having kids. A couple sets actually. That'd be nice. If God would let me have two sets of twins. I'm certainly praying for that.

    10. C’mon now 4:56! A few sets of twins; Irish and otherwise; and Jana could have those 11 children. Easy-Peasy!

  11. Jana should have just stopped with the wedding post. No one drives over 400 miles to "surprise" their boyfriend with chaperones in tow. I don't know what really happened but this all seems so fake. Somehow Stephen was home and delighted to entertain 3 unexpected guests. IMO that is very unlikely.

  12. Please don’t perpetuate the outdated practice of using “Mrs. husband’s first and last name” when referring to a married woman. It’s no longer 1950. You would never call a man by his wife’s name. This old custom dates back to when women were actually considered their husband’s property.

    ReplyDelete

    1. 10:44…YES YES YES and THANK YOU!! Taking a husbands last name is cultural and was for ownership.

      Delete
    2. 10:44..wow your comment made me chuckle..I never thought about keeping my maiden name when I married 54 years ago, actually I think it still is common to take your husband last name. In fact on most legal documents they ask for your maiden name, assuming if you are married, you have your husband’s last name. When my sister married she put her maiden name in place of her middle name, and took the last name of her husband.

    1. I couldn't agree more. I teased my Mom once about doing that. I saw her sign something using my Dad's first name, so when she was getting supper ready I asked her "Whats for supper John?" She gave me a strange look and said "Why are you calling me John? " I said "Isn't that your name, because you just signed it a few hours ago?" Of course I normally called her Mom but wanted to drive home the point that she already gave up her last name, you don't give up your first name too. That's who you are,not him.
