In a new interview with People Magazine that just released this afternoon, Jinger (Duggar) Vuolo reveals that she was asked to be part of the Amazon docuseries Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. She decided not to participate, telling People: "...I really wanted to make sure that I was able to share my story in my own words and in my own timing." Did Jill try to "weigh in" on her sister's book? Then why is Jinger weighing in on her sister's interview? And why is the information coming out in Jill's interviews so different from Jinger's?

ReplyDeleteI skimmed that - I thot Jinger was saying she wanted to do it her own way so that's why her book was already published. Interesting that it came out before the documentary and now I'm thinking she knew about the documentary when the book was being worked on and made sure her book came out first.

DeleteFor those judging Jinger for not participating in the interview's for Shiny,Happy People,she made her choice to wait until her book came out to speak her mind that way. Kind of surprised even though they try to stay out of the public eye now, Josiah and Lauren and Justin and Clair didn't participate in any of the interviews since they obviously left the IBLP and let their wives wear pants. Same with Joy Anna and Austin who have a YouTube channel and she wears pants now too. I think Jana would of spoke out too except she still lives with her parents and isn't fully free yet (but soon I'm sure once her father finally lets a young man court his eldest daughter or she gets the courage to move out and live in her own).

DeleteThe Duggar girls all claimed it was a choice for them to dress modest. I can see Michele dressing them that way as kids, but they decided to continue doing so. So someone is not telling the truth

DeleteExactly. You can obey even though you don't want to and you don't agree, or you can disobey and be punished. You have no say in the matter and no real choice. You can see who disagreed but went along anyway - the women who are now showing knees, shoulders, bare arms, and are wearing pants and shorts. I have a feeling there's a rule about "until you're over 18 or married" because Jana has been seen breaking the modesty rules too, although not when pictured with her parents.
DeleteI just don’t get all of this. I understand they were in a “cult”, but, it’s weird. It’s like stop giving little tidbits of info, it’s like bread crumbs. Just give us the story, and let’s be done with it. I watched the shiny happy people show, it didn’t show anything that i didn’t know before. I think if Anna left Josh, and came out in a documentary, that would be very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI honestly could not get through the prime show. I felt like I was watching preview to a series like a commercial it was just soundbites several minutes in. It was not about the Duggars, it was about Gotthard. It only included some the family and had nonDuggar peopel included as well. So it does not matter which of the kids participated and which didn’t. Which is fair as it is meant to undue the lies not that they are not minors and able to speak freely. Even a book will have a ghostwriter or editor slant and ‘not their own words’. I think YouTube channels would be the unedited way to tell it. The criticism on the movement and the Duggar parents is warranted. It does bother me the concern over Christian’s being political and damaging democracy. I mean many decades ago it was a disturbing idea that hippies could get weed legalized or gay people could get laws making that respected so even if you are not Christian why would you think Christian’s political is bad? TLC should have dropped them entirely with Josh revelations. Any show with minors should be a three year series IMNSHO. Then the family can go on YouTube and actually control their own content or just be family and let the kids grow up and go back to living normal lives. TLC damaged Jennings, Roloffs, Gosselin’s, Duggar’s (well maybe it is what got some of the kids out of that nonsense). Jennings mom clearly is Münchausen syndrome by proxy. If the mom didn’t have national cable tv attention for several years would the result be different? The Bates family just give off a different vibe. Although I think think they should have the same three year guideline. They can go to different physical churches and the world doesn’t have as strong opinion on that. If any of these families was just 3 years on TV they could have grownup and been a family. Sad.

DeleteThis docu-series was filmed about 3 years ago. Jinger, I'm sure, had plans to put out her own book for money regarding her spiritual journey from one "cult" to another. She chose her husband's church and I'm sure they are happy to have assisted her with it's content. Jill and Derick have advertised that they intended to write a book some years ago also.
ReplyDeleteNo, I think it was filmed last year. Jill is pregnant with Freddie. The Holts did one interview after the 2021 trial but then stopped short of giving a promised second interview. Probably because they knew they were going to be filmed for this.

DeleteAccording to what was being said when Jinger first got married, she had a whole lot of money when she left home. It was Jeremy who didn't have much money. So there is no excuse to make money off of trashing her Mom and Dad and friends. Right after the last book she released talking about how she was traumatized about her upbringing, you see all over the web with a big smile on her face as she is having a customized closet made by Jana to house her thousands of dollars worth of shoes. That's just ridiculous and very telling. Why don't they just get jobs instead of complaining about their growing up years and making money off of the hurt they are causing their family and friends??? They complain about being forced into the media but they can't stay out of it, especially Jinger. Sheesh grow up already and get a real life! Honor they Father and they Mother

Making money off it or not, going public with this at the least helps to set the record straight about these sinister cults promoted by these huge families on TV. JimBob had no problem pressuring Jill and Jessa to go on the defensive with the Megyn Kelly interview. I'm sure he made quite a bit of cash from it.

She was traumatized by fear that things would harm her or her family if she didn't adhere to Gothard's teachings. When she was older and through Ben and Jessa's biblical discussions, she started questioning her beliefs and started researching the Bible for herself. It didn't seem like it on the show, to me, but she said she was full of fear. She was legalistic.
DeleteIf Jinger was so fearful to not adhere to Gothards teachings she would have never dated Jeremy who clearly was not under those teachings. Maybe Jinger was fearful and nervous because she was a nervous type person back then. All her siblings except for Jill seem happily married and are doing good in life and anything they wanted to change from their former beliefs they did without writing a book about the horror of their childhood. The thing that stands out to most of us is her desire for material things and I believe she will do anything to gain more and more wealth to live the Hollywood lifestyle no matter who gets hurt in the process. Her parents kept her safe from falling into all the pitfalls that other young women fell into and she was involved in ministries and was loved and taken good care of by her parents. Now she is all about money and fancy clothes, thousands of dollars worth of shoes, a new hairstyle every couple weeks, so no I don't believe the book was written for any other reason then to get more and more money and it is very obvious. It was a money grab once again.

DeleteYes. Jinger is having a hard time trying to find some sort of "middle ground". She wants to make everyone happy and I don't think that's going to happen. She's going to have to choose beetween her parents and Jill in this one.

Delete4:28 I agree with part of that. A job is a must have to live. However, not everyone wants college or can afford it. But in life you can't have everything handed to you. You also have to prepare yourself that things happen in life unexpectedly and you may find yourself having to live with someone or go back home to your parents.

DeleteSerious question- If J.B sister knew what was going on and cousin Amy saw things that she questioned, why did she keep going back to the Duggar home and participate on the show? Or did Amy's mom not know what was going on, concerning the IBLP or whatever the lifestyle is. What of the boy that they adopted? Is he still in their home and taking part in this religious lifestyle too?
ReplyDeleteAmy saw things she did not understand (Josh's absence, Josh's shaved head) or was not told the truth about. Remember, she was a teen at the time too. She probably thought the show was harmless, just like her relatives. Her mom didn't know the entire truth about Josh until his trial. She wasn't on TV much after a point, and neither was Amy.
DeleteI'll answer from my own experiences of growing up with an abusive parent. There is little they could have said or done to rectify what was going on in the household. There was no obvious physical abuse going on and therefore nothing to report to children's services. Their best option was to be there for the children and say little that would upset the parents. My aunts did that and I always felt that I had a resource to turn to when I was stressed out. Hope that helps.

DeleteGood for Jinger, she knew it was a propaganda film, there is so much anti-Duggar rubbish on the internet and they all really are just trying to generate clicks and dollars. It's laughable how poor quality the articles can get, the say virtually nothing at all. At least here, some new material, but it's edited up to sell a story. It's sad to see Jill trashing the family to make money, I don't think all her views are wrong or unfair, but doing this publicly is very damaging in the long run. Sending kids to government school is a clear sign Jill has lost her marbles.
ReplyDeleteI watched the documentary and I was pretty disgusted.. I honestly feel for the people who suffered under Gothard and his inappropriate ways. That is not ok, however I wonder if any of them still have faith in Jesus. The series portrayed Christian groups going to state capitals and other areas of government and learning about politics and trying to instill Christian morals in government as something dangerous. It seemed like the lines were blurred as to whether these people being interviewed were denouncing Gothard or the Christian faith.

It was positive to expose Got hard and IBLP, but it is laced with gossip and it’s anti- homeschooling, anti- large family, anti true Christianity as well cuz they lump all Christians together with fundamentalists. The actual goal for them is to deconstruct people and make all Christians villains.

The docuseries does paint Christians in a very bad light and those people didn't once say that their faith in God was still strong in spite of what they might have went through.

DeleteNonsense. IBLP and its teaching are not what most Christians believe. Gothard was discredited years ago but the Duggars clung to his teachings anyway. Just because someone waves the Christian flag doesn't mean they're following the Bible.

DeleteI agree OP.. the docuseries didn't make that clear. I thought it was definitely an attack on Christians and homeschoolers. IBLP may be teaching some untruths, but there should have been a disclaimer or something. No one interviewed stated whether or not they followed Christ. The way a few of them spoke, I would guess they don't now.

DeleteI think she and Jeremy were wise to steer clear of the docuseries. Just too many unknowns, production wise. They also had the savvy to negotiate their own contract with tlc back when the show was on. I think Jeremy's life experience in the professional world has served them well. Meanwhile Jill and her husband have walked semi-blindly into several things that they now regret.
ReplyDeleteThe legalistic rules that the IBLP, ATI - Gothard people follow IMO are not religious, they are social ones....the courting, dress, etc. These things have nothing to do with believing that Jesus is the Son of God/Saviour of the World. This group has taken things way too far and have lost the true meaning of "religion".

"OMG Joy has started wearing glasses again! Is she pregnant?" or "Jinger didn't have her wedding ring on! Has she seperated from Jeremy?"

And it is NO one's business what they do, who they marry, how many kids they have, what they eat, what they believe etc.

If it's NO one's business what they do, then why do they post what they do to YouTube, Instagram, etc. etc. And why are those videos always promoted here? They WANT you to look and to comment. To them, that is their NORMAL life. They laugh off the speculations of pregnancy or separation in their Q&A videos, too.
