Joe and Kendra Duggar celebrated their wedding anniversary yesterday. They were married four years ago and have three children (ages three, 22 months, and six months).
I remember how they were like in the shadow of Joy and Austin - Joe asked Kendra about courtship around the time Joy and Austin got engaged, then Joe proposed to Kendra at the Joy's wedding, they they got married right after Joy announced her pregnancy... And now they have 3 kids already! Either time really flies, or they are just very efficient!
Congratulations Joseph & Kendra❣️ Happy😊 4th anniversary. I watched your courtship, engagement, wedding and honeymoon. I enjoyed every thing about it. I also enjoyed hearing the announcements, gender reveal party's & births of your children. I know your on YouTube but I can't wait to see the Duggars, family members & extended family members on Cable TV sometime in the future hopefully sometime soon with everyone. I wonder if they'll be another spin off of the show? That would make me very happy 😊 excited ❣️ Natasha b
I think it has been voiced repeatedly that the likelihood of a spin off is very slim. The show was canceled for a multitude of reasons; low ratings, troublesome family relationships, the Josh Duggar scandal. The Duggars planted themselves in many of our hearts and lives for years. They deserve the opportunity to live with more privacy if they choose. We have watched the married adults branch out and try to live their truths, it must be hard to make changes without feeling like they are undermining the teachings of their parents. They deserve to explore a life of their own. Let's let them go and enjoy when they share information and life events and be understanding if they don't.
It's the couple's choice how many kids they will have. A in-law told me I should only have two children, me and my husband had two more just to throw back in their faces.
5:38, I hope that wasn't your only reason! 😄 People telling other people how many children they should have is something that always makes me mad, though. That's a MYOB situation!
5:38 - you had children only to spite other oeopke. Wow. Doesn't seem a good reason to have kids to me. And I hope those last two kids never find out they were only onceived out of hatred like that.
My husband and I wanted a large family. We had 5 and I also had people telling me 2 was the most proper. Seriously, proper? Lol. We had 5 anyways and they ran their mouths about it. We was almost tempted to have more.
4:00, we have five too. Fortunately I can only remember 3 incidents of people saying rude things. One was,"So are you going to get fixed?" (My body is actually working the way it was created to work, no fixing needed). One of the comments was so ignorant and rude I could only stare and then said something lame because I was so flabbergasted that she would think what she said was acceptable. The third one was our neighbor who doesn't have any kids of his own and kind of runs at the mouth anyway. I just laughed. But seriously, those of you commenters who think you need to talk negatively about how many kids someone else has, just STOP. It is ALWAYS rude. For parents who love and want their children, it is a big slap in the face, very rude, and implying that some of the people they love the very most in the world shouldn't have been born. Just stop.
11:02 People respond to comments on this forum that make it sound like having a lot of kids is the ideal and a "blessing" one should accept. The Duggars themselves have promoted that idea, as does IBLP, and was the basis for their show. Rude comments can go the other way, too. When first married, I remember being interrogated about when I was planning on having kids and how many. It's really no one's business and asking questions about family planning is unacceptable under any circumstance.
6:09, that is exactly what I said: "those of you commenters who think you need to talk negatively about how many kids someone has," etc. I didn't limit it to big family or small family. And then the remainder of my comment was directed to the big family critics since that is my personal experience. I totally agree with you that people need to mind their own business about how many kids someone else has. Just don't go there, people.
HAPPY 4th ANNIVERSARY!!!!!!!! WOW,I can't believe it's been a big 4 years!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!! I love U 5!!! Who would of thought just 3 months in U'd be pregnant!!!! I love how happy U 2 are together!!!!
We had 3 kids by our 5th anniversary. It's been a while, but those were fun, busy years. I wouldn't change a thing. Well, I'd probably make myself go to bed earlier. 😂
Yeah, if that were your thing. I highly doubt Joe and Kendra have number goals. I think it's more like not doing anything to prevent babies and wait and see what happens.
Saw a informational spot at my OB-Gyn's today that most women (barring unforeseen issues), using no form of birth control have an 85% chance of being pregnant within one year. So, no one should be surprised when a Duggar wife becomes pregnant. ;)
I don't know, I have 5 kids and every time I saw a positive test, I felt surprised. It's not like I was stupid and didn't know it couldn't happen like some of you are implying, but at the same time there were plenty of times that did not result in pregnancy, so yes, when it happens, you do tend to feel surprised. I imagine it's like someone who regularly buys lottery tickets. You know every time you could win, but you aren't going to win every time. Maybe you buy one 3 times a week and never win until the 11th month you buy one. Wouldn't you be surprised then?
I'd buy more lottery tickets if I knew that something I was doing myself was going to influence the outcome odds. Your negative or positive test hinges highly on what you're doing to promote either of those two outcomes.
@1:33- It's statistically based on the average "normal" ovulation cycle. Obviously, that's not going to necessarily apply to women experiencing seriously irregular cycles or women and men experiencing fertility issues (endometriosis, low sperm count, etc.). My OB-GYN actually counseled us (as well as many of her other patients) not to "try so hard" because actually that increased pressure/stress releases counter-productive hormones that can mess with your hormonal levels and suppress or delay ovulation. Who knew? ;) Apparently there's some medical evidence to that end and couples sometimes find once the pressure is off, they become pregnant.
@10:01 Seems like it would also be based on things like whether or not your spouse was out of town for weeks at a time due to job reasons, and so on and so forth. Not tying and never trying are different. Some couples never try for lots of reasons, some beyond their control. So for them, the 85% chance statistic would be more like 0% chance.
I think not. Not everywoman’s body will just keep having babies if nothing is done to prevent it. The women in the Bible didn’t seem to just have tons of babies and birth control wasn’t a thing back then. Nursing your babies longer was a thing so that could have played a part, but I think some women’s body stop at 5 and some at 20.
@10:33 Birth control WAS a thing back then. The ancient Egyptians used it. There's evidence of it dating back to 1800BC. I actually learned about this in Sunday school when I was a teen!
Actually, the Biblical Jewish laws dictated certain periods of abstinence and babies were generally nursed (although not exclusively) until their 3rd birthday. Not to mention in the Bible, husbands were regularly engaged in either military training exercises or actual combat, as pretty much every man was expected to help defend his country/tribe at a moment's notice. Factor in a heavily agricultural society, without modern technology and appliances (like farm tractors, manure spreaders, combines, etc. or washing machines & dryers, dishwashers, sewing machines, textile mills, ready-to-wear fabrics, Walmarts, etc.), both men and women had less free time and energy to "engage" as often. All of those factors served as birth control. No one single mother in the Bible is recorded as birthing 19 children and those large families were the result of multiple wives and servants are recorded. Neighboring societies like the Egyptians did indeed employ herbal "remedies" and other practices for birth control. Some "advanced" societies employed infanticide as birth control, as well, leaving the baby outside to die by the husband's decision.
Many did. It was very common. Using things they had around back then. Mostly natural or food items. Some very odd things but they worked or they wouldn't have continued doing them for so long.
Supposedly real estate but who knows with this family. So many dealings behind the scenes with friends in their inner circle (not the public) and whatnot. Jim Bob has lots of properties and things in the works at all times. Those kids would have really struggled without higher education had Jim Bob not had connections.
How do you support yourself? I am going to go up to everyone I don't know and ask how do they suppose themselves financially and make them extremely uncomfortable.
Very good question! Reasonable thing to ask, particularly in this economy, with rising costs for housing, groceries, gasoline, health insurance, taxes, etc.
5:36, I think it's a valid question given the topic of discussion here. 3:52 is right, these guys would have a really hard time entering the job market with a resume of nothing but high school level Christian homeschool and doing odd jobs for Dad. Not always a perfect life plan for supporting a wife and a lot of kids someday.
I would love to know that too. I lost my jobs to COVID and am curious how others are getting along because my family is severely strugglingbto get by during this trying time. I am not being nosey or being a troll. I really want to know out of curiosity and learning from others.
@12:53 They could, but they don't. Draw a circle with a 20 mile radius from Tontitown and there you'll find nearly all of the Duggars. Look at what they do and the connections that work has to Jim Bob and his friends/business associates. Coincidence? No.
The question keeps coming up because they are a family that use to have a TV show. Any reality star gets ask the question because people are jealous. But honestly these days asking ANYONE what they do for living is inappropriate especially the times we are living in because not only jobs was loss because of the pandemic but oddly enough a lot of businesses and restaurants are closed due to lack of workers. I know why because people either don't want to be forced to get the vaccine and there's people that don't want to work at all and trying to live off the government which is closing up now.
3:16, I’m sorry you’re struggling. Certain job sectors have been hit harder than others. Where I live, there are We’re Hiring signs everywhere, especially in retail, restaurants, health care and transportation/trucking.
@9:00. The reasons why there is a worker storage in various industries, like retail and hospitality, is more complicated than that.
Employers have increased the wages offered but have also increased the qualifications. They are looking for experienced workers for positions that required no experience and very little training.
Workers are very concerned about their health and their family members. They don't get sick benefits; time off to see the doctor. Those who could have been able to retrain to improve their employment choices. One cannot blame them for wanting to improve their lot in live and protect their health.
Living off the government? Huh? Do you know how little government financial assistance is? In many places, including here, it does not even cover rent.
9:17, that's not true where I am from. They are looking for inexperience and experience workers because they are desperate. It's sad the world we live in these days. Everyone wants to live off the government and find anything wrong with them to have a doctor sign off they can't work.
For how many hours? $600/month to care for a newborn is not lucrative by any stretch of the imagination I if it’s full time. That amounts to $3.75/hour for a 40 hour work week.
@4:04 Yes indeed. I know someone who got in trouble with the IRS for taking cash payments on Fridays for work done all week. This was in the roofing business. The IRS caught up with both the worker and the company.
9:06 Realistically, kids are expensive, whether or not you stay home with them. They require food, medical and dental care, education expenses, space to live, and clothes-just to name a few. If one of the parents stays home, they are losing income they'd othewise be taking home. Multiply by 2, 3, 5, or 19- you get the picture. I love my two adult kids dearly and can't imagine life without them. However, I can't imagine having had more than that, especially in today's expensive world.
You and your spouse can work really hard, commit to pay off any debt (and do that exceptionally well), and take the pay cut to be a stay at home mom...and then have a child born with physical challenges, Autism, or a life altering disease requiring a lifetime of expensive medical treatments and around the clock professional care giving (or prolonged frequent hospitalizations or even a specialized environment). It's not always as simplified or black-and-white as some stay-at-home advocates make it out to be. Not every one has the financial or familial resources or the ability to be a stay at home parent. Realistically, there has to be a pretty good income stream to be a single income family with a stay at home mom (unless she's blogging or running a home-based business on the side). Anonymous @ 9:48 is spot on- Raising children correctly does cost money.
@2:31- That's exactly my point. Some moms have to work to help pay for the care for a special needs child, it's not a choice. Not everyone can afford to be a full-time stay-at-home mom and some do not want be.
@9:06, not everyone has the option to stay home. Raising children is expensive. I stayed home until my child started first grade then I went back to work. If you want to give your children good things in live, like food, clothing, and a good education sometimes it takes both parents working. Also raising children is a two parent operations, dads should help.
It's a good idea to go back to work when the kid enters kindergarten. The school can babysit so you can earn money to raise the kid all the hours he/she's NOT at school! The trick is not to have any more babies or you're back to square one, babysitting another kid at home.

Delete$600 a month? When did you pay that? In the 80s or 90s? Babysitting is NOT a lucrative business. It is hard work, with low pay.
DeleteI pay $640 a month for 3 hours of after school care.

DeleteYou and your spouse can work really hard, commit to pay off any debt (and do that exceptionally well), and take the pay cut to be a stay at home mom...and then have a child born with physical challenges, Autism, or a life altering disease requiring a lifetime of expensive medical treatments and around the clock professional care giving (or prolonged frequent hospitalizations or even a specialized environment).
Delete10:20, how is working mom going to take care of her child with special needs?
Delete@2:31- That's exactly my point. Some moms have to work to help pay for the care for a special needs child, it's not a choice. Not everyone can afford to be a full-time stay-at-home mom and some do not want be.
Delete@9:06, not everyone has the option to stay home. Raising children is expensive. I stayed home until my child started first grade then I went back to work. If you want to give your children good things in live, like food, clothing, and a good education sometimes it takes both parents working. Also raising children is a two parent operations, dads should help.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good idea to go back to work when the kid enters kindergarten. The school can babysit so you can earn money to raise the kid all the hours he/she's NOT at school! The trick is not to have any more babies or you're back to square one, babysitting another kid at home.
