Evy at 9 Months Old

Evelyn "Evy" Forsyth
9 months old

Can you believe that Evelyn Forsyth is already nine months old? She is already trying to stand on her own. Do you think Evy looks like Gideon did at that age?

  1. How is she 9 months old already! Time sure has flown by! And yes, she looks like Gideon’s twin😉

  2. They look like two peas in a pod.

  3. I was surprised to see the other day that Gideon (turned 3 in Feb.) is still in daytime diapers.

    1. I'm not surprised. Surgeon was at that age too.

    2. You would think these girls had lots of practice with potty training.

    3. What a nice little passive-aggressive Mommy dig! It is not at all unusual for boys to potty train later, especially when there are younger babies in the house. My son was 3 1/2. That boy now has a Master's Degree and working as an electrical engineer. He didn't toddle off to kindergarten wearing a pull-up, either.

    4. It seems to be pretty normal in the Duggar family. I'm not sure why they take so long to potty train the kids.

    5. Every kid is different.

    6. Judge much?

      Delete
    7. Like walking and talking potty training happens when the child is ready.

      Delete
    8. Did you see him in person?

      Delete
    9. I raised 4 healthy, happy children. All whom wore diapers until 3 or 3 1/2. PLEASE stop being so ugly and judgemental! If they're not ready, they will be soon and it's NOT your business!! BE. KIND.

    10. Some kids take longer. I’m glad to see Joy and Austin aren’t pushing Gideon to potty train due to some false level of “mommy brag” that my kid was potty trained by 18 months! Stop with the comparison and judgement.

    11. Wow, glad to see the comments that are realistic to combat the mean mom bullying. There is NO set time that every child will be ready to potty train at. As a matter of fact, there is NO set age for any child development marker. Children are not robots programmed to do certain things at certain times.

    12. I think the point is that the Duggar mommies are home all day and are supposed to be well-versed in child care, that being their main job in life. It's so much easier to train as soon as possible and it saves money, especially when you have another in diapers and who knows how many more on the way. Diapers aren't cheap.

    13. It is normal to compare kids to other kids! That is how Doctors can track growth and development percentiles to make sure your child is well or if the child has any problems that need addressing o help them grow and function properly.

      Delete
    14. I am not surprised that there are so many sanctimonious know-it-alls who seem to get their jollies from posting jabs at other moms. An expert in child development you are not!

      Delete
    15. It’s the right thing to wait until the child is ready. The only person you are training before that is yourself.

      Delete
    16. The child will learn when the child gets taught. Parents have to put forth effort to parent and potty training requires effort.

      Delete
    17. 1:38, that is just not true. It isn't easier to train as soon as possible, it's actually easier to train when the child's body is ready. Trying before the child is ready will result in a lot of frustration and accidents. It can be done in a few days or weeks when the child is ready.

    18. @1:26. Mine too, he has a Master's in EE, owns his own condo and has a very good position.

I have to laugh, looking back on the "potty mommy wars". I remember one mom at the park, who was comparing my son to hers. Hers was potty trained she said; mine was in "homemade" training pants. She was convinced my son was intellectually handicapped. Years latter, her son barely made it through high school and works as an unskilled laborer. Mine went to a highly competitive university.

At the drug store, buying diapers for for my 18 month old, the clerk asked me how old my child was and then asked why was he still in diapers. Was he stupid? She was, she said, trained at 12 months. I responded by telling her that, no, she was not trained. Her mom was trained to when to put her on the potty. And if she was such an intellectual power house, why was her career being a cashier at a drug store?

Only stupid people make comments on if a child is potty trained or not. They know nothing about child development.

      Delete
    19. Nice name calling 9:32. I thought name calling was against the rules here. Nice shaming the store clerk, the mom at the park, and her son, too. And you're worried about the comments others are making?

      Delete
    20. @10:54 Nailed it. Couldn't have said it better.

      Delete
    21. 10:54 You cannot teach a child to potty train if they're not developmentally ready. The same is true of talking, crawling, walking, etc. You look for cues from your child and go from there, not force them to do something on YOUR time table.

      Delete
    22. 9:32, Master's, own condo, very good position, highly competitive university...all because you didn't potty train early? And if you do potty train early, you end up an unskilled laborer or a store clerk? Thank you for the child development lesson.

      Delete
    23. @11:58 I think you missed the point, which is that children who potty train later is not an indication of a dysfuntional human being in the making. Also, just because a child trains early, does not mean they are ahead of the game intellectually or with long development/ adjustment. There were some comments here implying that a child who is out of diapers early is somehow a product of better parenting and on the road to a better life in general.

    24. 10:22 : A child is 100% reliant on the parent or parents for care, so yes, it is on the parents' timetable. An infant or toddler can't tell time or know what a calendar or clock even is. LOL

      Delete
    25. Gideon has been in the kitchen baking cookies, so if he can follow those instructions, he can follow other instructions too.

      Delete
    26. Why are you surprised? Surely you know kids progress at different rates -- RIGHT?

      Delete
    27. 9:43 A child may not be able to tell time, but parents have to revolve their lives pretty much around the needs of their kids. Otherwise, they wouldn't be waking up at 2 AM to feed an infant or losing sleep when they're sick. Trying to "train" a child to use the potty before he or she is developmentally ready is counterproductive, IMO. Every single child is different and if you go into parenthood thinking they are, you'll be sadly disaapointed.

      Delete
    28. 10:48, you don't need strong bladder muscles to bake cookies. 😂

    29. @11:58 I understood that early potty training nor other physical milestones are NOT indicative of intellectual development. YOU MISUNDERSTOOD my post. I supported my child's development, not imposed on that development based on the views of others or based on my own convenience. As a result, my child was not frustrated by unreasonable expectations, expectations he was NOT able to meet because of his physical development at the time. I UNDERSTOOD child development, both physical and intellectual.

Unfortunately, there are mothers who put too much importance on physical milestones as if those milestones are somehow indicative of their "superior" parenting and/or their child's superior intelligence. That is NOT the case.

Those two example I cited are perfect examples. They thought that my children, because they were not early walkers or potty trained at 12 months were intellectually deficit. It is rather funny because my children have tested IQs in the top 1% of the population (Mensa is only top 2 to 3%). I cited those examples to prove a point.

Young parents, RELAX. Your child will be potty trained when they are ready.

    30. This is perhaps the dumbest argument I've seen here on the blog, and I've seen some dillies. All thanks to the original unkind comment by 11:02. I'll just leave it at that.

  11. They look identical! If the pictures weren't labeled I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

  12. She is precious and yes she does look like her big bro. I would be so interested in your insight about how the family is handling the two Evy/Evie named girls. I don’t get too hung up on duplicates but with first cousins that has to be a little confusing. Do they pronounce them differently (short e long e) or something? Or is Evie vuolo always using her middle name?

  13. A little like Gideon, but not much. She is herself.

  14. 2 babies, 2 mini Austins

  15. Evy is adorable! <3 In the beginning, I thought she most strongly resembled Austin and Gideon, but now I think she's looking more like Joy in the face. Either way though, she & Gideon both are so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yup. Just like her bro.

  17. She definitely looks like Gideon alright; and it also looks like she's got grandpa Pop's nose. 🤭

  18. Both she and Gideon are a mix of both parents,Gideon looks a little more like Austin and Evy looks a little more like Joy, they do resemble each other but not a lot, maybe they'll look more like each other when their a little older.

  27. They are both cute! Joy seems to love being a mom.

  30. Do Duggars women practice breast feeding or formula feeding? When in USA usually give children other food except milk??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think they usually nurse at the start, but we know at least one of the daughters-in-law had to supplement. Solids (soft ones) are usually started around 4 to 6 months.

      Delete
    2. I nursed both my boys until they self weaned. I introduced baby foods around 5 months. Also was told not to give them regular milk until a year old because their bodies can't digest it b fore the.

    3. I think they breastfeed.

    4. Start on baby food at 6 months.

    5. You can't really ask "in the USA". The mothers here vary wildly. I breastfed exclusively until my daughter was a year old. She did not eat baby food. She breastfed until she was three but ate normal food more and more as she got older. I don't believe in baby food or formula.

  34. Gideon was born huge, over 10 lbs. and then he either lost weight or just grew fast, he was not like a plump when he was a baby Evy is much fuller looking that Gideon in that age, and they look quite different. She looks a little like Gideon now, but not when he was a baby.

    ReplyDelete
  35. No, I really can’t believe the sisters are naming their kids — born in rapid succession — Ivy and Evy. Then again, their parents named daughters Joy Anna and Johannah.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Don't forget Jinger named her daughter Evangeline, which is also very similar. So three similar names in a short time period!

      Delete
    2. But Johannah became Hanni.

      Delete
    3. Evangeline can be shortened to Van.

      Delete
    4. Wow, that would be a shame to take a pretty name like Evangeline and shorten it to Van. Reminds me of that character on the Reba sitcom.

      Delete
    5. Evangeline can be shortened to "Eva" or "Evy" also. Or to "Angie".

  36. Evy and Gideon are adorable. Then seem like happy children.

  38. To May 28, 9:17. I tried potty training my son when he was 2 1/2. He just wouldn't cooperate. On a routine visit to his pediatrician, I told him of the difficulties I had potty training my son. He laughed and said the only person I was training was me. He said that some boys' sphincter muscles do not mature as early and when he was ready, it would happen quickly. About 6 months later, I caught him taking his diaper off and "squatting". I hurriedly picked him up and took him to the potty. When I went to put the diaper back on he said no....big boy pants. That was it. Never wore a diaper again, even at night when he never wet the bed. Thank you for saying what you did.

    1. Exactly. Anyone who thinks every single child will do something at the exact same age just does not understand child growth and development. This mommy shaming doesn't reflect badly on the mom or child - it only reflects badly on the shamer.

      Delete
  39. Just got to say that I think Evy is absolutely adorable! I hope she's doing well and growing by leaps and bounds. We may not agree with every parent's choice about every last thing, but it's pretty safe to say that Joy and Austin are human and will undoubtedly make some mistakes along the way (as we all have), but they do love their children. So, let's support them by praying for wisdom in their parenting, as they raise these sweet little ones.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Evy is like her Mamma, but Gideon is the spitting image of his Dad.

    ReplyDelete
  41. As a reminder the older girls are the ones who raised their younger siblings- Michelle never taught the older daughters how to potty train a sibling they learned that on their own so I am not surprised that their own children are maybe late in potty training or not. Evy is 9 months wow- she is getting big. Gideon has a mommy and daddy that work together and not have a sibling raise him or his sister.
