Happy 32nd birthday to Derick Dillard! For fun, here's a throwback photo of Jill and Derick, taken before they were married. They announced their courtship on March 31st, 2014, and their engagement on April 9th, 2014.

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Derrick hope
You are spending time with your
Kids & family & friends
Here's hoping that Derick, is enjoying his 32nd Birthday!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Derick. You're my favorite Duggar husband. I miss seeing you on Counting On. Natasha b
ReplyDeleteThey recently admitted that they were already engaged when they announced their courtship.
ReplyDeleteWhen does Derrick finish law school?
He’s completing his final semester.
DeleteWait where, I never saw that??
DeleteI’m pretty sure that it has been known for years that they were already engaged
DeleteIt's so hard to believe that some of the Duggar kids or their spouses are now in their 30s. We have sure seen this family grow up. I like Jill and Derick, but sometimes worry that Derick controls things too much. Jill seems like a different person now and the separation with her family seems like a clash only between Derick and Jim Bob. I watch a lot of the YouTube channels of Jill, Jessa and Joy, and Jill doesn't seem to be as happy as her sisters. Some of her marriage-revealing videos have been a little shocking. It doesn't seem like something Jill would do on her own. I just wonder about it all sometimes. Happy Birthday, Derick.
ReplyDeleteI know, she seems so different, and not just her accessory, hair, and dress choices.
DeleteShe seems like the only one speaking out honestly. No shame in that.
DeleteI see her way more happier than any of her sisters. It seems that she found purpous in life and can really enjoy it
DeleteJill is doing exactly what she was taught to do by her parents, which is support her husband 100%. He's not perfect, but together they are facing the truth about her upbringing, and that isn't always going to feel good. She may not SEEM as happy as other family members, but she is no longer faking it for appearances, either.
DeleteI've thought the same thing @Debbie
DeleteI get a different impression of Jill on their vlogs. She comes across to me as having boosted self-confidence and is more sure of herself. If anything, Derick encourages her to speak her mind and not suppress her opinions or emotions. From what the Dillards have said, the root of the conflict appears to be over the show and TLC contracts. It was too controlling and that's why the Dillards decided to break it off. You can't blame them if the rest of the Duggars were put out by their move. I give Jill and Derick credit for making their own decisions and being independent from the family business and dynamics.
DeleteWell said 10:28, but all of our opinions are speculation. Even our best friends can hide things while seemingly happy. Anyhow, I truly hope she is happier and healthier as she finds her way. We reinvent ourselves all the time as we find partners, kids come, jobs, age, retire, loss, travel etc..and that is one of life’s many beauties and will look different for each of us.
DeleteI don’t see Derick controlling at all. I think if anything, Jill is coming out of her shell, and Derick is supporting her.
DeleteSo the first anniversary of their engagement was just a few days after they became parents, probably when Jill came out of hospital although having had cesarean birth she might have still been in hospital but they would have celebrated later when she got out, well I know it's an engagement not marriage anniversary but being the first they probably did do something special, happy birthday Derrick.
ReplyDeleteI don’t like what this man says about transgenders and a few other things. But I do like how he helped his wife get out of Jim Bob’s control and be free thinkers.
ReplyDeleteAh, so a free thinker can see that there's something debatable about the transgender issue too.
DeleteI totally agree with you
DeleteI’m only going by what I read, but it sounds like Jill isn’t really free to think for herself. It seems like she has gone from being under Jim Bob’s control to being under Derrick’s control. I’m sorry for that because Jill appears to be an intelligent woman.
Delete@10:15 yes transgenderism is a debatable issue. But there is a way to voice you concern without attacking a specific individual. Now that Derrick is in law school I hope he learned how to debate issues without personally attacking someone.
Delete@8:31, I see were your coming from but there is also the possibility Jill has very similar views as her husband.
DeleteThe thing I don’t get, transgenders want to be accepted, and want to voice their opinion, but if anyone disagrees with them, then they are labeled as “haters and ignorant”. We all are entitled to our own opinions. I don’t agree with transgenders, and all that, but they have a right to be who they are. What I don’t like is forcing everyone to agree with them, that’s completely against free speech, free thinking. You can not force someone to accept you or agree with you or even accept you. I tolerate it, but I don’t agree with it and should not be forced to accept it. Then that’s completely going against the whole point of being able to freely think the way I want! That’s the problem today! I don’t really care what someone does with their life, as long as they don’t hurt anyone, and don’t force their views on me! But leave me alone and let me have my opinion too. This is scary that this world now, if you say one little wrong thing, your prosecuted for having an opinion. Step back and look at the big picture!
Delete11:18, I agree. It is scary! Now people are trying to say we should be more "inclusive" and not use terms like mom and dad. Sorry, I AM a mom. If you don't want to use that term for yourself, come up with your own term, but don't downplay a whole group of women or men. That's excluding me and one of my most important roles and relationships. It boils down to rejecting God's created order.
Delete3:59: yes agreed! We are biologically born a man or woman, that is a fact! I understand trans/gay/lesbians want to be accepted, and that’s fine. But don’t try to erase us as humans! Live and let live! And don’t label people as “haters” because we choose to live a straight life. I don’t hate people, I might not agree with their lifestyle, but I do not hate.
Delete@11:18 I hope that my response is posted: I am certain that I don't agree with your religious beliefs, but I'd never dream of discriminating against you for having them. I think that's what the LGBT community is most concernced about, discrimination. They've had to deal with it for eons, along with being victims of outright violence and hate crimes. Give them credit for being intelligent enough to understand that they're not going to convince everyone that being LGBT is ok and not a sin. They just want the samer rights and consideration as anyone else- just like you and I.
Delete@3:59 You must be referring to the gender-neutral language rules recently passed in the DFL- controlled US House. A conservative Wisconsin congressman claimed that the Democrats want to eliminate the use of certain nouns/pronouns and terms we use in everyday life. This is far from the truth. The new legislation only refers to offical House documents. For instance, documents will reference "parents" instead of "mother and father"; "child" instead of "son" or "daughter"; or "chair" instead of chairman. The phrase "submit his or her resignation" will be replaced with "resign." It seems that the congressman's intent was to inflame his base and spread misinformation.
Delete11:11, this is not what I was referring to, actually. A private school in New York just put out guidelines that say that "mom" and "dad" are out, and "parents" and other non-gender terms are in, and we are only going to see that spread like the noxious weed that it is. You can't just cancel mothers and fathers because some people think that's not "inclusive." Mothers and fathers have been around since time began. A biological parent is either male or female, because only a male and a female can create a child. That's science. Only one of two genders is encoded in one's DNA, and DNA is not "assigned at birth" any more than gender is. That's also science. We need to stop denying the science about these extremely basic facts.
Delete12:19 Not sure how you can assume what one private church school in New York does is going to "spread like a noxious weed". I'm pretty sure no one is going to cancel moms and dads or force you to use gender-neutral terms. Don't lose sleep over it!
Delete3:47, don't worry, I don't lose sleep over it, but thank you for the concern. This move is hardly an isolated thing that will never be replicated anywhere.
Delete3:47, there are organizations and individuals who are trying to stamp out traditional family structure. This is one manifestation of that. BLM used to say on their website that they were anti-nuclear family structure, as recently as last summer. The UN has been anti-Mother's Day for years. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
DeleteI actually don`t get the problem with replacing Mom/dad with parent/s? Are mums and dads not parents? Why would it affect how you chose to build your life (traditional or not)?
DeleteI mean, I personally don't care much because I don't feel threatened if my personal preference doesn't show up or I am not specifically included but I know some people do. And it seems many here have the same sensitive mindset as those that fight to be included. It is not as if traditional families are forbidden or that people raise eybrows if you built one? I find this fighting over such things pretty undignified because there are much bigger tasks but most shy away from tackling the really uncomfortable issues.
6:02, moms are different from dads. They aren't the same, no matter how much people try to make things genderless.
DeleteThis couple is the best free thinkers' Derrick thank you for being there for your wife, when her own family isn't' Your the best couple who has done well and voiced and shared things with your followers. Mary Keim God Bless your and your Family
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100%. Non Mennonite
Delete😀 Happy 32nd 🎂 birthday Derick Michael Dillard. Hope you had a great day.
ReplyDeleteI ♥️ love the pictures of you & Jill. I miss seeing Jill, both the boys and you on counting on, hopefully some day soon. Natasha b
Happy birthday Derick! I hope you have a great one and keep standing up for Biblical truth.
ReplyDeleteEllie, I’ve been a loyal reader here for many years and have enjoyed this blog very much. But over the past few months I come here less and less. Jinger is one of my favorites and I have asked several times why she did not get a birthday wish post. It hasn’t been posted or responded to. I don’t think it is a rude question honestly, however so many rude comments about the Duggar’s get posted. I will check this one again, but sadly I may be saying goodbye to this blog.
ReplyDeleteLet me start off by saying that I'm very grateful to have you as a reader. That being said, I'm only human, and sometimes I do forget things, such as birthdays. I hope this makes sense. :)
DeleteHave a great week!
Ellie
Happy Belated Birthday, Jinger!! We’re only a few months late. Better late than never. :). ;)
DeleteEllie-I had to laugh at your response here. I'm married to an IT guy and I think running a blog (or blogs in your case) has a similar hazard. For some weird reason, I think a lot of people assume you just sit around doing nothing, waiting for news/pictures to pour in (like people think the IT team just sits around waiting for something in IT to break). They don't realize what it takes to pull this off (and tend to forget that blog owners often have a real life going on 24/7). They also tend to forget that blogs are a secondary project and the audience is actually just invited here to read by your generosity. Anyway, take good care of you and yours and please forgive the bloggers who, in their anxiety for all the latest, forget that. Thank you!
DeleteThank you for your kind and encouraging words, 7:32. I truly do appreciate your comment.
DeleteEllie
Perhaps you're just too busy, and it's time to give up all your blogs? It doesn't seem like you have time for them anymore anyway.
Delete3:50, she posts at least several times a week in several blogs and has to weed through and approve (or not) every single post. That takes time.
DeleteIt's time to either announce another season or announce that they're finished. Given the dull things the show has been filming (thrift store scavenger hunt, corn maze, etc.) it's time to be finished.
Deletei mean she’s still posting not just all 500 birthdays 3:50
DeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY
ReplyDeleteMarilyn,Joan and Maion
Happy Birthday Derrick! Wow - Jill looks absolutely STUNNING in this photo.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with gender pronouns. It is part of language. We are predominately male or female. I find it silly to put so much effort in changing language. Use pronouns that you want....no legislating necessary to change it. Mother is a female parent...father is a male parent..no matter how you feel about it...gay, straight OR otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThe House legislation passed only refers to House official documents, nothing else.
DeleteUnfortunately, it's strategic, not silly.
Delete4:37, slippery slope.
DeleteGod bless this couple and their family. They have the right to believe as they wish and to express their feelings.
ReplyDeleteSo far Derrik and Jeremy are winning for best husbands.
