Busy Week for the Forsyths

It has been a busy time for Joy and Austin Forsyth. Austin drove out to Colorado with a few guys, including Jason Duggar. They went backpacking and elk hunting but were unsuccessful at harvesting an animal. Meanwhile, Joy had a visit from her best friend, Carlin (Bates) Stewart, and Carlin's daughter Layla.

When Austin returned home, he surprised his wife with a birthday getaway, which included Hallmark moves at the Keeter Center, a beautiful hotel located near Branson, Missouri.

    1. Slaughtering, whatever you want to call it. I'm sure at some point in your life you've eaten something that had to be killed. So, if you think whatever terminology you want to use bothers everyone, wrong. Still tastes great!:)

    2. I'm an animal lover and have always been totally against hunting, but those who hunt have explained to me that they do it only for food and that it's more humane than allowing the animal populations to be out of control and thereby allowing the weak animals to be preyed upon by others and suffer a painful death. If you're a meat eater, you may want to consider the conditions under which your food is raised and slaughtered. It can be inhumane. I've heard that "halal" meat involves no pre-stunning before slaughter. I'm not a tota vegetarian, but I've reduced my meat intake after hearing about what takes place. Grass-fed beef and pasture raised chicken/eggs are your best bets. Food for thought -- no pun intended...

    3. You realize they eat the meat, correct?

    4. Newsflash-you don't eat anything that hasn't been killed. Something died to feed you, whether animal or plant. We can stop the value signalling now.

    11. @11:30AM - I'm not trying to start a fight of any kind, I'm simply curious. What would be wrong with hunting with an AK47, whether it is capable of select-fire or not? It fires a 30caliber cartridge which is a well respected size for taking an elk. In fact, its likely the same projectile that they had in the bolt action rifles they were carrying. It just seems odd to me that as long as they respected the limitations of platform in both power and accuracy over extended ranges, that it would be any kind of an issue to use one rifle over another. Now I'm not saying they should, nor would I, but I can't judge anyone for using what they have. The cartridge is absolutely capable of dropping the animal humanely, but there are better cartridges and platforms to do it from.

    12. Neddy,I have a feeling they wouldn't get upset as much as you do.

    13. @10:52 AK47 assault rifles are created to be military weapons, designed to kill people.

    14. @11:10 - Every firearm ever created was designed to kill. I can take an elephant gun, designed specifically to kill large animals, and use it as a home defense tool. I don't see how that addressed my question at all.

    8. @7:21 You should do research. This is DIFFERENT from the flu and West Nile. It is totally irresponsible to NOT take this pandemic seriously. Social distancing/staying in your family bubble/frequent hand washing/wearing masks saves lives and reduces the strain on the hospitals.

      Delete
    5. Let's just skip past the whole everyone involved did so by their own free will, in a free country, with the threat of a virus with a 99.96% survival rate.. Let's talk hunting though, they, the Forsyth's are Christians, last word on eating animals from God that I know of was "kill and eat". If you don't like God and his word that's fine, your life your choice, so let's try another angle.. You say the animal is Innocent, it isn't. It's also not guilty either, it is an animal, which has no morality. Is a mountain lion evil too when it kills one of these Innocent hoved beasts? I didn't think so. But speaking of predators, do you know what that in a good deal of predator kills, the prey starts to be eaten before it's even dead? A hunter taking a single shot, with an appropriate caliber rifle will end an animals life before it hits the ground. Even when things go wrong and an animal dies in minutes bleeding out from a gunshot, it is mercy in comparison to how animals die naturally. We humans tend to think of death as something that happens in old age, but that's not the case in the animal kingdom. Animals get weak, they get killed and eaten. Hunting isnt evil, animals aren't Innocent, and this virus isn't a big deal.

      Delete
    6. @ 8:34 I fail to see how 1.2 million people dead (including someone I knew) isn't "a big deal." Also, I want you to give your source for the 99.96% survival rate. Show where you're getting that low number, because Johns Hopkins medical university and research center has been tracking this from the beginning and shows no such number. The mortality rate has dropped from an average of 24% worldwide to approx. 3-4%, with some countries much higher (Mexico still at 10%). No country has the .04% rate you are quoting, so you need to show where you've come up with that number please.

As far as hunting, "nature," which Christians believe came from God, has always taken care of its animals, living or dying. Thinking that hunting is "saving" animals from a cruel natural death is saying the hunter is playing God. At least when predators kill, it's on a level playing field and no human armed with a deadly weapon decides, for their own sport, when the end comes. You're wrong about animals having no morality. They are intelligent, have feelings, and many species such as dogs, cats, rats, dolphins, and elephants, exhibit human-like compassion and empathy. Those are some examples where we've already discovered those traits. There are probably more.

    8. Do they eat the elk they shoot? Process it, refrigerate it, and transport it back home? If so, it’s as moral as eating any kind of meat. BUT, God made us stewards of the Earth. Killing elk for “fun” is morally repugnant.

  8. How irresponsible of them. No wonder covid is raging throughout the country because they and like minded people are traipsing around like it doesn't exist. It was my understanding that Layla has some sort of heart problem. So why would Carlin be traveling around with her?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Carlin & Evan had covid in July so as far as is known with this virus they can neither catch it nor transmit it, so they can safely do whatever. Layla will have gotten antibodies from Carlin through nursing. Her heart issues were discussed 9 or 10 months ago so may very well be resolved or stable. You do not have evidence to accuse them of irresponsible behaviour, just your emotional desire to do so.

    2. They are not irresponsible, they are just having fun and trusting in God , as all of us should be doing, lest trust in God and live your life seeking for God

    4. Carlin and her husband had covid, so they are probably not as worried, but I’ve heard that people can get it more than once. An evil virus that was manufactured. My friend is a microbiologist and he said it was definitely man made, he’s been researching it. The whole thing is a test, a test to humans to see how we would react and now put us under control. Just think about it.

    5. "Heart problem," is a very broad definition. You have no idea of just what Layla's health needs are so how about withholding judgment?

They love their daughter and have been very concerned about her health.

      Delete
    12. @1:43 I'm NOT so sure Carlin has run all these family gatherings and travels past her pediatrician or cardiologist. If she did, I can't imagine what doctor would OK taking a baby with a heart problem all over the place in a pandemic. A lot of people, Duggars included, have the attitude that "God will protect us," until the church congregation comes down with it and God didn't do what they expected.

      Delete
    13. @10:37 That's only true if Carlin's body built up antibodies to the correct level and managed to maintain them for this long. People are catching Covid twice, which is confounding doctors.

    14. @8:16 Nobody is giving protestors a free pass. Everyone is concerned that they're spreading the virus by gathering too.

I'm not going to weigh in with an opinion on her traveling. Carlin is an adult and she is responsible for making decisions for her child. Just wanted to point out that you CAN get it more than once, though it's not overly common to do so.

    2. 12:08, well in that case you might as well go out as well. The virus isn’t going away anytime soon and you more likely then not WILL get it at some point. It makes more sense to try and get it at the beginning so your body can build some antibodies than to get it later on when the virus is stronger and have no protection.

      Delete
    3. @3:01 I think I'll go quarantine with 12:08, if you think that getting the vuris is great and you get antibodies as a prize. Wow.

There's no research proving that the virus will get stronger later. Your statement doesn't have any logic when you think about it from the treatment angle either. People died at a higher rate at the beginning because we didn't understand what the virus was capable of doing and had no clue what drugs to give. So no, you don't want to go out and catch it now to prevent anything later, and people who stay at home now are not guaranteed to get it later.

    2. American here. I completely agree with you. I can assure you that not all of us are acting like that! Since March, I’ve only left my home to go for walks, to go to work (essential employee), medical appointments, and grocery shopping. I wear a mask every time I leave my house. I’ve only seen one friend and two extended family members (outdoors, socially distanced) since this all started. I’m single, so the social isolation can be brutal at times, but it’s the right thing to do. I do this not only because I don’t want to get COVID, but also because I deeply care about my fellow Americans

    3. Of course positive cases are rising. More testing is being done for a virus that has a 98% survival rate. Also the virus case numbers and death numbers are skewed. Anyone who tests positive for an antibody to corona, gets counted as a positive Covid case, when in actuality they are not an active case!! Also if anyone who dies from any condition ( stroke, copd, heart attack, diabetes, etc) and have antibodies to Covid, then that death is ruled a Covid death even though that wasn’t the actual cause!!! So in reality the death rate is LOWER than what numbers say!! That’s not to say this isn’t a deadly virus, because it IS for those with compromised immune systems and the elderly. I think people should take precautions and use common hygiene practices to not spread it. Wear a mask when around others, and stay home if sick! Even the common cold or stomachs virus can be deadly to those who are at high risk... here in the states there are NOT appocolyptic levels of the virus. Hospitals and ERs are not overflowing, there are plenty of beds, ventilators etc. and in the rare chance it comes to that, the US is prepared to handle a sudden surge. Covid isn’t going to magically disappear. It’s here and we have to live with it until there is a vaccine. We can not live in fear of a virus that has such a high rate of survivability. If this were a something like Ebola or the Black Plague I would see things different. But it’s not as crazy a virus as the media is portraying. If everyone uses common sense, keeps thier hands washed and keeps thier hands away from the eyes nose mouth and face... and stay at home if sick, then we can slow the spread. Wearing a mask will also help.....

      Delete
    4. You have less cases because your cases are being reported in smaller population chunks. The US is huge and has a very large population. Case numbers do not matter, only the number of actual deaths (and even those are being falsely reported)

      Delete
    5. Totally agree, I know someone who was waiting in line (in their car) for a covid test, they registered and everything but then turned around, got out of the line because the wait was too long, so then they got a call a few days later that they tested positive, well the funny thing is, they never got the test. So there you go, what’s going on here. Just look into it people!

  21. Wow,what a busy week for Austin,Joy and little Gideon and Evy! Sorry to hear that Austin's hunting trip with the guys to Colorado was unsuccessful. I live in Northern Colorado,30 minutes from Denver and go to church 30 minutes more up North in a little town called Frederick and a couple in our church went hunting last weekend and shot 2 bucks (they were lucky and got 2 tags for bucks at the same time for the 2020 hunting season). But they went close to the Kansas/Nebraska border (away from our terrible wildfires to the West of us). It probably not just bad luck this trip, they could of hunted in the wrong part of Colorado near the burned out areas. And our state Wildlife and Game organizations have now stated in recent weeks that the fires grew so fast, that more than half the animals could not escape the blaze and ended up being burned and killed. I guess the guys should of stayed local in Arkansas or went to New England instead. Glad that Joy got to have a visit with BFF Carlin and little Layla. It sounds like the both of them have recovered well from COVID19 and allergies.

    1. He was responsible and died anyway? Then why not let people make the choice to enjoy life a little since they could die whether they're responsible or not?

      Delete
    2. @9:06 That's the problem when there are so many reckless, unmasked people out there spreading this virus. You can be as careful as you can but still catch it with any little slip up, or being in the wrong place at the right time. Going out to "enjoy life a little" is no reason to take chances to end your life early from a virus.

      Delete
    3. Off course you should try to enjoy life. But my point is to make smart choices and mininum the risk. I hope we all can enjoy life and stay healthy!

    4. Saskia: I’m sorry, that’s horrible. How did he catch covid? Just curious if he was staying at home and all. This virus is scary, because you don’t know what to believe and why are some people getting super sick and others are not?

      Delete
    5. Anom 9:06, ya I agree, but I think this virus seems to attack different people in different ways.

      Delete
    6. @9:06 You miss the point. If EVERYONE was responsible, the death rate would drop. Unfortunately, those who are being responsible are being put in danger by those who want to "enjoy life" at any cost. The problem is that these irresponsible people are not always the ones who suffer the consequences of their poor choices.

    1. Hallmark movies! Those sappy movies with the predictable Hollywood outcomes that for some reason are so popular. Not familiar? Want to know what you're missing? Attractive young woman moves back to hometown to (A) save a foundering business, (B) open an inn, or (C) leave her corporate job behind to pursue her love of baking cookies. While there she meets (A) her high school sweetheart, who is now dashingly handsome and conveniently available, (B) the local widower with an adorable young daughter in tow, or (C) a business rival who goes from adversary to fiance` during the course of the movie. Simply choose from those options, plug in a different setting and different names for each movie, and you have "Hallmark movies" or as it says here, "Hallmark moves."

    5. 12:05 - you have an awesome sense of humor. That is exactly what a Hallmark Movie entails. The woman are thin and gorgeous; the men muscular and handsome. I don’t know why these movies are so popular. It only calls attention to the fact that real life is seldom that romantic and simplistic; nor does real life always have such a happy ending.

  35. I can really relatee to Joy and Austin. My family goes hunting and their are always hunting trips with the guys. I am also glad they aren't hiding in their basements during Covid and are living their lives. The chance of dying when you are young and healthy from Covid is really low. Good for them for not overreacting.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Overreacting? They have a baby with a heart defect and they already caught Covid once by traveling and being around others! That's the big transmission route right now, being with people outside your household in small family gatherings! Second infections are happening too. Thanksgiving and Christmas are going to both cause new case spikes if people think traveling and getting together is OK.

      Delete
    2. "Young and healthy" people have died. The fact that the chance is "really low" is no consolation when it happens to someone you know or someone in your family. Nobody says "I'm glad they weren't hiding in their basement" at a funeral.

      Delete
    3. I think the Duggars and Austin SHOULD be called down for putting people at risk with their activities. Even if they are unlikely to die from the virus, they would be contagious and could easily infect someone who would die. What about having concern for the well being of OTHERs? That doesn't seem to be on their radar.

      Delete
    4. Young, healthy people can still be infectious and unknowingly pass COVID on to others. No one need hide in their basement, but limiting oneself to unnecessary travel is the caring and responsible thing to do. Essential workers are sacrificing for us every day. The least we can do is respect that by doing what we can to reduce their risk if exposure.

      Delete
  36. Joy and Austin look so happy together. It's nice to see. Some people can't look beyond masks and social-distancing today, but my family, like the Duggars, don't let the pandemic keep us from living our lives. We believe in taking basic precautions, but we refuse to live under a rock or sit around sniping at people as to whether they are meeting our expectations and standards for dealing with the virus. The virus has sure brought about a lot of judging in people.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If "living your life" involves NOT wearing a mask in public, then you are putting others at risk of contracting this virus. I hope you show some basic respect for other people as you go about your lives.

      Delete
    2. The virus has also brought out the very selfish sides of people, especially the ones who think their activities are more important than helping to keep the case numbers down for everyone. Do you realize what the spread of this virus is costing us all? It costs nothing in comparison to wear masks, but better yet, to stay home as much as you can. I really have to wonder what those who are "living their lives" have to say when they come down with Covid, get hospitalized, suffer long-lasting health problems, or worse. Do they wish they had lived life differently and had stayed healthy? Too late then for wishing that. Do they ever wonder how many they spread it to, maybe causing a horrible outcome? That would hard to live with too. "I'm going to live my life at any cost" doesn't seem like a good game plan.

      Delete
    3. Anon 11:57. Thank you for putting it so well. I'm older with health problems and I don't understand why so many people don't care about who they might infect by "living their lives". Just because they're tired of the disease doesn't make it go away or less dangerous.

      Delete
    4. My son got diagnosed with the virus. He wore a mask, he wore rubber gloves and washed his hands and social-distanced. Yet he still got the virus. So should he therefore spend the rest of his life at home, too fearful to go out, to keep you happy? As stated in my post, we use common sense and practical means to keep the virus at bay, but we have no accountability to people like you who seem never to be happy with anyone unless they stay locked behind closed doors. I wonder how much your family and friends are missing you. And don't you have a job? How do you afford to stay home? Some people have to work. I work in law enforcement and have never been able to stay home a single day during this virus, outside of my regular days off, and neither has my family. We are all essential workers. How about people like you worry about yourselves for a while? We could just as easily catch this virus from you as you could from us. You can't stay locked down forever.

      Delete
    5. Anom 11:57, maybe you should research into the numbers, it’s very messed up. Not saying this virus isn’t real, but they are skewing the numbers, just look into it. I would hate for you to live in fear, which is what they want. I’ve done a lot of research in this, and my friend who has worked at a company that produced vaccines, and he says it’s all manufactured. So just actually look into it. It is scary, because the fact is, they are trying to control us.

      Delete
    6. Masks don’t do much, I can still smell foul things through them, just sayin. If you can smell nasty things in the air, it’s not going to do much if this virus is as aggressive as they claim

      Delete
    7. 11:57, mental health is just as important as physical. Some semblance of normalcy and socialization is important for mental health.

      Delete
    8. @9:53 Where's the proof this is "all manufactured." That's what skeptical people are claiming because they don't want to believe that something so horrible could spring up naturally and cause so much mayhem. They're looking for someone to blame, and the easy target is governments or corporations, or anyone they think has an agenda and would profit somehow from millions of people dying. Until you or your vaccine company worker friend has proof that they will make public (and if they have the proof, why aren't they making it public), then that's nothing but a theory on your part. I have a nephew who works for a vaccine company and he has not mentioned what you're saying at all. In fact, he hardly has time to do anything but work right now, certainly not sit around coming up with control theories.

      Delete
    9. 10:16 I'm sure the people who have lost friends and family to COVID are going through some rough mental anguish and would love to go back to some sense of normalcy. Careless socialization is what's spreading this virus.

      Delete
    10. 9:54 Apparently you've not read the studies on masks. They do help contain the spread of airborne particles that spread the virus. Odors are another science altogether.

      Delete
    11. 9:53- Who are THEY? It sounds like you are trying spread fear by perpetuating unfounded conspiracy theories. Try reading some history about the 1918 pandemic. Some of the parallels are striking.

      Delete
    12. Debbie @8:26 If you're an essential worker, don't you hope and expect that the general population will take every precaution to keep from spreading the virus? BTW, do you monitor your son's activities 24/7 and know for a fact that he wore PPE all the time or didn't go somewhere that was a known risk?

      Delete
    13. @9:54 Duke University's mask study this year says otherwise.

      Delete
    14. Anom 4:03, THEY, is the man behind the curtain, the real people running everything, this is all a control, like a test. Maybe I’m a conspiracy theorist, but I’d rather be that then just go along with everything I see on tv. Just look it up.

  39. After reading the comments defending Joy, Austin and Carlin's actions I will say I'm appalled by the lack of concern for others who like myself are at risk of dying from the virus if we contract it. Just because people are "tired" of a disease doesn't make it go away. No wonder the virus is raging out of the control in the US. The numbers are real and it's not a "scare tactic" by the media. The lack of a strong federal response is problematic and shows the same lack of concern for our citizens that I see in some of the comments. Very sad to say to east.

  45. Let me just say, I heard from my friend, so her friend went to get a corona test, they got in line, the line was long, and they decided to turn around and drive home, they did not get tested but they registered their name, like checking into a doctor. Anyway, after NOT even getting the test done, (because they decided to leave and drive home), they got a call in the next few days that they tested positive for the corona virus. So, there’s some corruption going on here. How can you test positive when you did not take the test in the first place?

    3. Corruption? Sounds totally implausible to me. I've gone to be tested at a drive in site and it DOESN'T work like that. If you don't get your test kit from the person handing them out, you're NOT going to get a test result because that kit wasn't used.

      Delete
    4. Since testing sites don't work like that, I wouldn't believe this story. When you go to the site, your ID is checked and you're given your test kit with a label attached to it with YOUR name and information, then you move on and give it to the worker administering the test. They don't just give test kits to any random person with someone else's name and information on it. I don't know why you were told this tis story but it's simply NOT true.

      Delete
    5. 1:42, that's not always the way it works. I was not given a testing kit. It was show your ID, get a stick shoved up your nose, drive away.

  47. I can't believe some of the opinions I've been reading here about not staying at home, not wearing masks, "living life," and that the virus is not that bad. Would you stand in front of a grieving family and say those things about why their loved one died? Then it's not appropriate to say those things about the virus here either.

  48. Let's not overlook the huge open house the Duggars had last night as they watched election results. Not a mask in sight and people toting babies around. The very type of babies they work so hard to protect before they're born. So what about after?

  49. Want a sleepless night or two? Read what's happening in Denmark with a mutated form of Covid-19 that has been transmitted to humans from minks on mink farms. It's a mutation that's keeping antibodies from forming and may render the vaccines under development useless. Denmark is now culling all the minks and going on a strict lockdown for some areas. They are also testing all new Covid cases to see if they're the usual infection or the new mutated version.

If the mutated version gets out, it would be a new global pandemic threat.
