Austin Goes Skydiving

This week, Austin flew his family of four to Alabama to visit relatives. While there, Austin got together with Trace Bates and Lawson Bates and went skydiving. Do you remember watching 19 Kids and Counting "Duggars Shoot for the Sky" back in January 2011? In celebration of her 18th birthday, Jessa Duggar went skydiving with her mama, Michelle Duggar.

  1. Wasn't it Jana, not Jessa? It's been so long ago, it's hard to remember for sure, but I was thinking it was Jana.

    4. No, certainly not Jana. I would’ve thought Joy was more the type but with it being so long ago it’s easy to forget for us fans, but I’m sure Ellie will have it straight!

I'm sure some of your readers have gone skydiving. Not me! No way. I'm a big fat chicken!🐔🐔🐔🐔

  5. Sure, go across state lines and hang out with friends in the middle of a pandemic, when you have a wife and small kids at home. Not very smart!

    1. Today I saw photographs of Prince William and Princess Catherine at Buckingham Palace. They were entertaining the President of the Ukraine and his wife. Apparently, they crossed international boundaries. No one wore a mask. They were indoors. Social distancing at the minimum of 6 feet. If the Royals are comfortable and not in a panic, so am I.

    2. I think Joy and the kids went with him! Unreal.

    3. Oh for crying out loud. I think people can separate for a bit without putting their family in mortal danger, 1:23 🙄 Some of you people just go so over the top with this virus. Yes, the virus is bad, but the diseases that so many in this country refuse to vaccinate their kids for are just as bad, if not worse, and somehow we've survived those without everyone donning a thin mask and staying locked in our homes, joined at the hip. Get some perspective.

      Delete
    4. 6:48 - Royals shouldn’t be your reference point in this case. They’ll probably get excellent care if the get sick, same as Trump is getting now. Can’t guarantee that for the average Joe.

      Delete
    5. I'm sure not in a panic. Alabama and Arkansas (especially Arkanas) must be doing something right because their Covid cases and death rates are way lower than my state. And our state people wear mask and social distancing! Perhaps people are trying to adjust to a new "normal" and not lock themselves in their homes wringing their hands because they are so fearful.

      Delete
    6. 8:11 Just because your state may have a mask mandate does not guarantee people will follow it. That's why rates go up, when people don't follow the guidelines and mandates. BTW, Arkansas and Alabama's numbers are not the greatest.

      Delete
    7. @8:11 Where are you getting your statistics? The news headline in Arkansas this week was "Arkansas Hits New High for People Hospitalized with Covid-19." Look it up. The White House task force just declared Arkansas as having one of the highest rates of new cases in the country. They also currently rank 9th in the US for cases per capita. These were news releases on October 6th.

      Delete
    8. The Duggars had better sit up and take notice. There is now a link being identified between having Covid and male infertility.

      Delete
    9. I would use the Royals as an example to follow. Infection rates are increasing; Europe is in the second wave; that includes the Ukraine. The US never flatten the curve in the first wave and now, with the second wave, the situation will be even worse.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did meet Volodymyr Zelenskiy and his wife Olena on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II. They may not had masks on BUT they did not shake hands, and observed social distancing (more than 2 meters). The visit was important; it was not for pleasure.

I agree that we should not panic. Panic may cause people to NOT follow the rules and do stupid things, like drinking bleach. But this is serious. I

Here, we have significantly less cases and we are BACK in Stage 2. We are shutting down. NO UNNECESSARY travel. We are to stay within our households; only allowed to social with those we live with. No indoor dining; no gyms open... the list goes on. We are to stay home unless for essential trips.

If we can do this and make the sacrifice, the Duggars can do it too.

      Delete
    10. Anon 8:34 They are saying all kinds of things about the c ovid and you have to ask yourself how in the world would they even know the covid causes infertility since it hasn't even been around long enough to know that. I think the fear mongering that the media loves to do is causing stress which can be dangerous for people.

      Delete
    11. @7:43 Uro Today, the urology medical journal, is reporting this. Male and female reproductive systems can both be compromised. The tissues have ACE2 receptors where COVID attaches and does its damage. It's not media hype and yes, there have been enough cases to identify this problem.

    12. It's not a pandemic at all. If this was actually a killer virus, we wouldn't be coming and going freely, relying on "non-medical" masks -- which is how most are labeled. Compare this to the Spanish Flu, which was a pandemic.

      Delete
    13. Shaking my head that thinking like 7:29's still exists, after all these months. 7:29, if you know these things for facts, please contact the WHO and the CDC and ask for a job there. Otherwise let them do their jobs and listen to them.

We've been over and over why some masks are legally labeled "non-medical." They are for use by the public. Just like there are OTC drugs and prescription drugs. Both work. This is not some conspiracy to fool you into wearing a mask.

      Delete
    14. Re 7:29 - Does anyone here actually keep up with the latest findings or read the scientific reports? The Duke University mask study this past summer showed that non-medical masks are effective in preventing the spread of droplets and virus particles.

Health care is considered a right of every citizen and resident. It is not a profit-making enterprises, as it is in the US.

    1. A breastfed newborn would be all but invincible in terms of Covid. Chill.

    2. I know. This casual attitude about Covid is why it's so out of control in the US.

      Delete
    3. @11:57 There are very few breastfeeding women in the US who would be able to give Covid antibodies to their babies. One antibody does not fit all diseases. Nobody was carrying antibodies to this virus before it appeared, which is why it was able to infect so many. You'd have to have had Covid, survived, and have produced antibodies to it - while pregnant?! - and I have not heard yet if it is even found in breast milk or could be of any use to a newborn via that route.

      Delete
    4. Anon 1:57. What on Earth makes you think that breastfeeding would ward off Covid? Breastfeeding is not some sort of magical prevention for ANY disease.

      Delete
    5. 4:56, breastmilk is loaded with antibodies. Look it up.

    6. Wow....even if an infant or child has caught covid CLEARLY their immune systems can handle it. 98%...let me say that number again...98% of substantial covid cases in this country are for either the elderly population or people with pre-existing conditions. Fact - on CDC site. AND if you really want to fight covid, stop eating sugar, get some REAL vitamin D, Zinc, and boost your immune system. I have severe asthma and I was sick back in December - it may have been Covid - but I worked through it with oregano oil pills (anti virus), silver water, and elderberry tea. You can survive!!!!

      Delete
    7. @10:14 It's only "loaded" with the antibodies the mother has! It doesn't protect a newborn from everything. How would all lactating mothers have Covid antibodies?

@11:19 Not true. Babies only months old have died from this. D and zinc are not themselves cure-alls, or it would have been easy to save the over 1M people worldwide who have died. Silver (I assume you're talking about colloidal) can have serious side effects and the FDA (since you like government sources) has declared it ineffective against any disease. They will take and have taken anyone claiming it as a cure for viruses to court. Therefore, I really can't believe any of what you posted. Sorry, but it's not accurate.

      Delete
    8. Breast milk is only loaded with the antibodies that the mother has in her system....look it up

      Delete
    9. Breast milk is absolutely incredible. And yes, a baby who would have Covid (although they are extremely unlikely to get it) could receive antibodies to fight it through breast milk. The baby’s saliva signals to mother’s body what the baby needs, and if baby is sick that information is transmitted to mom. Then custom breast milk is produced for THAT baby’s needs at THAT time. Mom doesn’t need to be sick; her body will produce the antibodies for whatever baby has.

    10. No, I was responding to the person who said breastmilk has no "magical powers" for ANY disease. I was pointing out that she was incorrect about breast milk not being able to help prevent disease. Go back and look up what she and I said.

      Delete
    11. Gina, we're talking about Covid-19 protection. The mother would have to HAVE this type of Covid-19 antibodies in order to pass them on. This is why we're taking serum from recovered Covid-19 patients to give to sick Covid-19 patients, and not taking serum from measles patients, flu patients, etc. Although there is some early indication of memory T cells from other coronaviruses possibly (!) being able to recognize SARS-CoV2 peptide chains and show some cross-reactivity, there is NO direct evidence of those cells offering any degree of useful protection from Covid-19. In other words, the other viruses you've had are no guarantee you will be protected from this strain of virus. Lactating moms are not magically able to produce SARS-CoV2 antibodies. You need the disease first to have those in your body.

      Delete
    12. @11:19 The World Health Org says there is no evidence that herbal supplements help with Covid. The FDA has put out warnings about using silver, long before Covid appeared but especially since then.

      Delete
    13. I don't think the WHO has any interest in actually finding out if supplements work. They're pretty pro-vaccine, aren't they?

      Delete
    14. Of course the WHO wants to vaccinate children in countries where PREVENTABLE DISEASES can run rampant! When was the last time you heard of a child in the US getting polio? 1950-something? Why do you think polio stopped making headlines here and killing or permanently damaging children?

    1. 10:30 I'm curious to why you are saying you don't see it letting up until the end of 2021. I just had a friend of my husband and I who lives in California and his son in law is a Doctor and his daughter is a nurse. Now we are hearing all over the news about hot spots in California, but it's not true because they are laying off Doctors and nurses s left and right in California because people aren't going to hospitals and leaving the hospitals for covid patients to go to and because the covid patients coming to hospitals is down so low they are now forced to lay off staff. I have a sister in San Marcos Texas and according to the news there were lots of sick and dying covid patients in the hospital. Guess what!, it was a lie. She went to the Hospital for a sprained neck and asked the ER staff how many covid patients were hospitalized there and they said two. She asked why is the news telling people there are lots of patients and they shrugged their shoulders and said they had no idea why the media were saying that. We are being lied to and it is criminal what they are doing to us American people.

      Delete
    2. @7:28 Hospitals stopped doing elective procedures earlier this year and lost revenue because of that; hence the layoffs. It was not because of lack of Covid patients. Your sprained neck experience story in one city is not what is happening at other hospitals around the country. Wisconsin has set up hospital tents for overflow. They have triple the number of Covid patients than they had a month ago. Their Department of Health has declared a crisis. It's not a lie. You're trying to project one or two experiences in one or two places onto the rest of the country, and it doesn't fit. It's like trying to say it doesn't rain because the sun is out where you are and you don't see a cloud in the sky. Meanwhile, it's pouring in another state.

      Delete
    3. Anon 11:32 They are laying off because the Hospitals are near empty. Of course the elective surgeries are down and the covid hospital stays are way down too. I found out through friends and family around the country that covid cases are absolutely down and I also found out some other things that are going on and the things we are being told that I won't go into here but I will say, we are absolutely being lied to and manipulated by false malicious information about this covid.

      Delete
    4. Covid cases are down?? There were over 100 new cases identified around my city yesterday alone! Those are just cases that were tested and reported. How many more that didn't get tested? You think the health department of every state is lying and making up numbers? Where's your proof, other than "talking to family"?

      Delete
    5. @4:53 My state's Dept. of Health is reporting between 1500 and 2500 new cases a day. There have been that number of new cases daily since the summer. How is that going down? Some states are opening field hospitals, which they thought they would need in April but they need now. How is that going down? Some cities have run out of ICU beds. How is that going down? Areas of Europe are about to go on lockdown again. Why would they do that if cases are going down?

True,an Italian celebrity died that way and left behind a pregnant wife and his son never got to meet his dad,I know there are many possibilities of dieing but by not taking risks you decrease those opportunities, and being careful and wearing a mask during Covid is another way to be careful.

      Delete
    2. That would be awful! Your comment made me curious, so I did a little searching. The rate of skydiving deaths is one in every 220,000 solo jumps and one in every 500,000 tandem jumps. The 2018 car accident fatality rate is 11 deaths per 100,000 population, for comparison.

      Delete
    3. He drives every day, and he could be hit by another car with higher probability. He works in construction, and some tool could get out of control and injure him. Skydiving with instructors help is very safe, many people do this, Jessa did it for her 18th birthday.

    4. Guess what everyone? Life is risky!!! Driving a car is risky! Climbing a ladder is risky! Having babies is risky! Walking on a sidewalk is risky! Being a doctor is risky! Being a nurse is risky! Hauling freight is risky! Boating is risky! People have to make their own choices about what they are willing to risk. We all risk something just to live. We can’t be bubble wrapped. I personally wouldn’t sky dive, but people have to decide for themselves what they do. We have no right to tell people what they should and shouldn’t do. They aren’t doing anything illegal.

      Delete
    5. @8:57am,but the risk is still there, someone has to become one of those small percentage sooner or later, why not just avoid the risk there are enough risks as you said when we get in a car and drive, just like Austin likely avoids smoking to decrease his risk of getting cancer as there are already enough cancerogens,I myself gave up the idea of getting jaw surgery when I read there is a small risk, I think six percent,of dieing from airway obstruction post surgery, even though I need it as I have an underbite.

      Delete
    6. 5:04, of course the risk is still there. I never said it wasn't.

      Delete
    7. @4:32 With the exception of boating, those examples you mention are primarily risks we take which are necessary in the course of daily living. Sky-diving is fulfilling a want, not a need. It doesn't matter to me what the Forsythes choose to do for entertainment. However, most standard life insurance policies will not cover a sky-diving related death. The same is true for rock-climbing. That's something to consider if you're a parent with dependent children.

      Delete
    8. @3:26 If you are killed in a car or work-related accident, your life insurance policy will cover it. Most standard policies will not pay out for sky-diving fatalities, unless you authorize and pay extra for a rider to cover it.

    2. I guess people shouldn’t travel during flu season either. Don’t try telling me how bad the virus is either. I have already had it and so has my whole family. Some of us were sicker than others but no one including my seventy year old parents had to be hospitalized. Yes, some people die with the virus but plenty of people die with the flu. Some of us choose to go about life and not live in fear. You have your own choice to make.

      Delete
    3. @4:36 How did you all catch it? Are you glad you caught it?

      Delete
    4. @4:36 It's wonderful that you and your family avoided hospital stays for COVID treatment. You were lucky. Too many have not been and I know some of those unfortunately people. You hopefully already know this, but the big difference between this virus and ordinary seasonal flu is that there is no vaccine for COVID. There are also some chronic complications that doctors are only recently learning about. I'm not living in fear, however I am wary of those who scoff at taking precautions. I want to minimize my risk and protect other people, so that means I'm not traveling, I wear a mask in public, I don't eat in restaurants or bars, and I avoid any situation where social distancing is compromised. Those who choose to "go about life" are not only placing themselves at risk, but also others. I'm not sure how you can think that's ok.

      Delete
    5. Well said 6:38. Too many people are scoffing at this virus or are "so done with it," which adding to the spread. If those people walked into a store or a restaurant and found it full of smoke, they'd walk out. Unfortunately, what they can't see is that the same place might be full of virus particles wafting through the air the same way. Yet the mask stays on the chin or in the car, and it's game on. It's irresponsible, and endangering (and enraging) others as well as themselves.

  19. To Ellie - It's time you stop posting responses that give unproven "cures" or treatments for this virus, before someone gets hurt by following the bad advice they read here. It's also time to stop giving air time to those who are saying it's a hoax, it's no big deal, you won't get it, masks don't work, and so on. At what point do you feel any liability for what you post here? Facebook would flag false information, and you should too. You need to fact check what you put up. 1. 9:20 - No, it is not! The FDA is taking sellers who publicly make that claim to court. They are issuing injunctions and restraining orders against people trying to sell silver as a Covid cure. Your brother-in-law is taking a huge risk with his medical license by making that recommendation. It's not "silver water," it's colloidal silver - use the right term. Silver has no known benefit for the body and should not be taken internally. It can cause argyria (permanent skin discoloration), seizures, and organ damage. It can interfere with the absorption of prescription medicines. Your brother-in-law should not be telling an "entire congregation" to take it!

    2. Re silver water, I am in a direct marketing group in which silver water is currently our #1 product.
