Joy and Austin Forsyth just announced the name of their precious, six-day-old baby girl! Evelyn Mae Forsyth. "Evy" joins older brother Gideon, who just turned two-and-a-half.
Evelyn is a beautiful name. I think the name "Evelyn" is gaining in popularity. In my circle of friends and family, this is the third baby named "Evelyn". It's nice to see traditional baby names make a comeback. Congratulations, Joy and Austin.
Good choice. What a cute baby. I wish them well; glad that Joy had proper medical care and that she delivered in a hospital, hopefully from the beginning with no emergency trips there. All the best.
Evelyn is a great name!it's a version of my name Eva,I'm the one who guessed in the last post that they will be using a Bible theme like Annabel and Gideon and it seems I was right!
One week after the birth, People magazine is authorized to release the details. So, the Forsyths get two headlines out of the one baby story. Very predictable. BTW, I love the name Evelyn!
Yep, Evy Maae, Ivy Jaane... But they are not sisters, so it's not a big problem. Maybe only if like Gideon knows about Ivy, and now they bring his little sister Evy, so he could be confused...
Maybe Joy does not know what "gay" means. And maybe she just like the name without any connection to any of numerous relatives whom they might not keep in touch.
Wonder if they have any contact with sister Evelyn? There's been no mention of Michelle's family since very early episodes, except for when Tyler appeared. It's odd that her family doesn't show up in any of their pictures or celebrations.
I didn't realize that Michelle has a sister named Evelyn Alice Ruark. Not sure how Joy and Austin came up with the name Evelyn Mae, but I think it's pretty neat that now Gideon has a sister with the same name. I love the name.
Love it and congratulations to joy and austin on A beautiful little girl and just love the name and maybe a little bias as my own daughter is named Evelyn too.
I had a wonderful friend name Evelyn-or Evie as we called her. However, I’m not crazy about the name; a bit old fashioned for me. Not elegant really at all.
I don’t think these homeschooled-evangelical kids know any trendy or cute names at all!!! Do they ever think about how the name sounds with their names, their last name or does it fit how the sweet baby looks? I think Anna is the only one who get how to name your child!!!
So because they were home schooled and because they have a certain faith, they have no knowledge of trends or cute names? Just because its not one of your picks for a name you have to attack them for their choices? What exactly is wrong with the flow of her name? I like the names Anna (I'm sure Josh probably had some input as well), chose but they are two separate individuals with their own styles and preferences.
Why on Earth would anyone want to give a child a "trendy" name? Or be an adult with a "cute" name? Evelyn Forsyth sounds lovely and is a solid, real name. Far better than ridiculous trends. And what's wrong with the other grandchild names? Bella? Grace? Garrett? Addison? Samuel? How are any of those objectionable?
Evelyn is a beautiful, elegant older name. I'm 53 with an aunt named Evelyn. FYI: A lot of the more old-fashioned names ARE the latest trending names. It goes well with Forsyth and the Mae could be someone's first or middle name that Austin or Joy wanted to honor. When it's your child, you can pick their name. I'm glad they didn't go "trendy" or "cute"- there are far too many Brittanys from the '80's who would agree with me. LOL
Whatever. Trendy names just make it easier for people to know what decade pieces were born in. Evelyn Forsyth sounds like a vintage name to me, and it has a pretty standard name rhythm.
I personally like the older classic names; Rachel, Rebecca, Sarah, Elizabeth etc. those names don’t automatically signal the era someone was born. Trendy names go out of style very quickly and soon sound dated. That said, even though Evelyn hasn’t been popular in a while, until now, I’ve always thought it was beautiful.
I think what poster 12:55 was pointing out is how creative Michelle & JB we’re in naming 19 children with a J and with the abundance of elegant names; Austin & Jot decided on Evelyn. I, personally, wouldn’t describe the name Evelyn elegant; maybe old fashion, vintage, early 20th century favorite or connected to a family member.
The name was a real surprise. It is not something I would have thought of for baby. The name was popular back in the 1920's. My husband had an Aunt Evelyn. But here a couple of things to think about. 1. I believe Michelle has a sister Evelyn, Joy's aunt. 2. The name has increased in popularity in the last year. I never would have believed it was this popular now. But according to Google, in 2018 Evelyn was the 10th most popular girls name, representing 0.7552% of girl births in the U.S. Since 1910 Evelyn has been the 51st most popular girls name, representing 0.3651% of girl births in the U.S. 3. Here is also a meaning of the name that has not been brought up. According to Google, originally used as a surname, Evelyn, meaning "wished for child", has English origins and roots. Evelyn comes from Aveline, a feminine Norman French diminutive of the name Ava." Eva does appear in the Bible. All the best to them. It is always amazing to me what people come up with for first and middle names. I have done a lot of my family history and seen many combinations on my tree that I would not have come up with. And it seems that many of the combinations are beautiful. While I would not have thought of this combination originally as a popular one for this generation until I did some research, it turns out very pretty and appropriate. All the best to them.
Beautiful name, beautiful baby girl. So happy for Joy & Austin. I was pregnant at the same time they were with Annabelle. Felt for them so much during that time. Enjoy your new little one.
It’s her baby and she can name it what she wants. But since this is an opinion blog I would say I’ve heard this name a lot lately so it’s an old fashioned name making a comeback. I’m not in love with it, find it a little bland
What a great name, hey Joy U did a great job, she is beautiful girl!!!! When I heard, U and your girl was OK, I have to say I breathed better!!!!! I love U Joy, and I am very happy for U!!!!!!!!! I love U 4!!!!!!!!!! YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!
Beautiful and sweet!!! She'll have a cute little nickname too:) I am so happy for Joy & Austin, and their precious, growing family is in my prayers! :)
It's their choice; if they like the name that's all that matters. And it makes no difference how long it took them to decide. It's a personal choice and better than some of the "trendy" names I've seen lately. Perhaps she should have called her Apple.
Why does that matter? They are cousins. Plenty of families have cousins with the exact same name. The Duggar twin boys have the same middle name. Why does them having similar names matter?
Evelyn is a nice name. And Mae is cute. But together its country hoedown not classy. Separate Mae is country. Evelyn is okay. I like the name but its not classy at all.
I did some research on the name Evelyn. I found that Jim Bob's father James Lee Duggar had a sister named Evelyn. Michelle's father Garret G. Ruark also has a sister named Evelyn. So now with Joy's baby Evelyn Mae there are 4 Evelyn's in the family. How cool is that?
Evy and Ivy are close but let’s not forget that Joy Anna’s younger sister is Johannah which is practically the same name. They will be in different homes. It won’t be any more confusing than having 20 aunts and uncles with J names.
Joy-Anna is not the same as Joanna, it's hyphenated, and obviously Joy always went by Joy. Johannah has an "h" in the middle, so it's an obvious "Hannie" for short. Different.
I love the name they chose but I also love that people like to celebrate with the couple guessing names or suggesting names. Positivity is always a blessing and increases celebration.
I like the name Evelyn, and even though Evy is so close to Ivy name, they are just cousins. I don't think that when Jessa has another girl they will name her Evelyn. They will meet at family gatherings only. Evy already has 17 first cousins on Duggar side and 3 first cousins on Forsyth's side (Austin's sister has 3 kids). And it will be more. Like in 2 years there will be probably 10 more Duggar grandkids, and in a long run they won't be able to avoid duplicate names. Like, next year some of the Duggar boys will probably get married and have honeymoon kids. Jessa probably will have another baby, so will Anna, Abbie and Lauren.

ReplyDeleteWelcome, to the world, Evelyn!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEvelyn, after Michelle's sister??
ReplyDeleteI think they just like the name. I have an uncle named David and my son wasn’t named after him, it was just a name that my husband and I liked.
DeleteThere goes the header again!
ReplyDeleteNope they have left room for additions
DeleteNot really. They just have to move Gideon up a little.
DeleteEvelyn is a beautiful name.
ReplyDeleteI think the name "Evelyn" is gaining in popularity. In my circle of friends and family, this is the third baby named "Evelyn".
It's nice to see traditional baby names make a comeback.
Congratulations, Joy and Austin.
What a beautiful name for a precious little girl! Such a treasure! Congratulations to Joy, Austin and Gideon.
ReplyDeleteI love that name!! My grandma, who passed away in 2013, also had the beautiful name of Evelyn Mae!!!
ReplyDeleteTime 11:31PM Thurs 8/27/20
ReplyDeleteAww cute name she looks like mommy & daddy.
I love Evy. It’s their choice.
ReplyDeleteThose are two very nice old fashioned sounding names, and I like them. Joy Anna and Austin are my favorite Duggar couple. Natasha b
ReplyDeleteEvelyn is a cute name! Mae is an oldie but it's a middle name... Nice job.
ReplyDeleteSweet old fashioned beautiful name. Like it very much.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful baby with a beautiful name.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the name!
ReplyDeleteA modern name!!
ReplyDelete😄 Those are pretty old-fashioned modern names!
DeleteEvy Mae sounds old and Southern to m e from the country and not elegant.
DeleteWhat a beautiful name. Awesome choice. Congratulations Joy and Austin, Evy is absolutely gorgeous. Xox
ReplyDeleteA very cute name for a lovely baby.
ReplyDeleteGood choice. What a cute baby. I wish them well; glad that Joy had proper medical care and that she delivered in a hospital, hopefully from the beginning with no emergency trips there. All the best.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!! What a beautiful name!
ReplyDeleteEvelyn is a great name!it's a version of my name Eva,I'm the one who guessed in the last post that they will be using a Bible theme like Annabel and Gideon and it seems I was right!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Eva too! How cool, I rarely hear our name.
DeleteEvelyn is not in the Bible.
DeleteCorrect, however it comes from the name Eve so in a way it is.
Delete@3:01,as Eva is in the Bible they probably wanted to use another variant as the night not have liked Eva,just like Maryella is a variant of Mary.
DeleteOrigin of Evelyn
DeleteEvelyn is a variation of the biblical name Eva, but as well as a form of Avelina.
Eva is not the Biblical name, Eve is.
DeleteEve's Hebrew name is חַוָּה or Chawwah, meaning "life", so Eva is closer to the original than the English translation of Eve.
DeleteOh, such a cute name!!!
ReplyDeleteOne week after the birth, People magazine is authorized to release the details. So, the Forsyths get two headlines out of the one baby story. Very predictable. BTW, I love the name Evelyn!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the name reveal didn't exactly go as planned!
ReplyDeleteNice name
ReplyDeleteLovely name for a lovely baby.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations again to the
Forsyth family
Nice name. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteGreat name. Evy sounds a lot like Ivy when said quickly so these girls will have to listen carefully as they grow up and spend time together!
ReplyDeleteEvy is almost the same as Ivy (Jessa's daughter).
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, and Mae has the same long 'a' sound as Ivy's second name, Jane.
DeleteYep, Evy Maae, Ivy Jaane... But they are not sisters, so it's not a big problem. Maybe only if like Gideon knows about Ivy, and now they bring his little sister Evy, so he could be confused...
DeleteYes almost the same names Ivy and Evy😒
DeleteI LOVE THAT NAME!!!! Congrats guys!!! Cannot wait to see more and more pics! 🎉
ReplyDeleteThat's the name of Michelle's sister, the "hate the sin, love the sinner" one. Wonder why they used the same name?
ReplyDeleteYes, I can't figure out if they chose the name on purpose maybe as a show of support for the sister? Or maybe they forgot and used the name anyway?
DeleteMaybe because Joy wanted to honor her?
DeleteIt would be cool if it was done to honor her.
DeleteMaybe Joy does not know what "gay" means. And maybe she just like the name without any connection to any of numerous relatives whom they might not keep in touch.
DeleteWonder if they have any contact with sister Evelyn? There's been no mention of Michelle's family since very early episodes, except for when Tyler appeared. It's odd that her family doesn't show up in any of their pictures or celebrations.

ReplyDeleteI love the name.
I don’t think Gideon is old enough to appreciate the names connection.
DeleteGideon has a M middle name plus a nice tribute to some of the duggar women who have M first or middle names
DeleteJoy ..its such a awesome name and I love it so much ..because my middle name is the same as mine congrats
ReplyDeleteI think Evelyn Mae is a beautiful name. I like Evy as a nickname. I bet Gideon loves lil Evy. Natasha b
ReplyDeleteLove to see grandmother/great grandmother names coming back for a new generation. So soft and beautiful. Great choice :)
ReplyDeleteA beautiful name for a beautiful baby girl.
ReplyDeleteLove it and congratulations to joy and austin on A beautiful little girl and just love the name and maybe a little bias as my own daughter is named Evelyn too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful name
ReplyDeleteNamed for her aunt I believe! How nice!
ReplyDeleteI had a wonderful friend name Evelyn-or Evie as we called her. However, I’m not crazy about the name; a bit old fashioned for me. Not elegant really at all.
ReplyDeleteI wish negative opinions would be kept private.
DeleteAnonymous 12:51
@10:55-simply voicing my opinion and I believe I did it in a kind manner. My opinion is not negative; but may be different from yours.
DeleteI don’t think these homeschooled-evangelical kids know any trendy or cute names at all!!! Do they ever think about how the name sounds with their names, their last name or does it fit how the sweet baby looks? I think Anna is the only one who get how to name your child!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the old-fashioned names significantly more than the so-called trendy ones that are popular today. Evelyn is a beautiful name!
DeleteHmmm - maybe they didn't want a trendy/cute name? As long as they like the name, it really doesn't matter...
DeleteSo because they were home schooled and because they have a certain faith, they have no knowledge of trends or cute names? Just because its not one of your picks for a name you have to attack them for their choices? What exactly is wrong with the flow of her name? To me Evelyn is on the same par as Gertrude, Herminie, Helen. Alice, Bertha, Mildred, etc.
Delete@12:37 Evelyn Forsyth sounds like a character from a Dickens book. Ugh.
DeleteJim Bob & Michelle did a better job creating J names for 19kids than their offspring has done with their kids!!! Evelyn? Elegant? Poor sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of the "theme" naming of children. I think choosing a name based on a "theme" is very limiting.
DeleteEvelyn is a beautiful name, what are you complaining about??
Delete12:55 PM - not nice. The only thing that matters is that JoyAnna and Austin like the name. End of story.
DeleteI think what poster 12:55 was pointing out is how creative Michelle & JB we’re in naming 19 children with a J and with the abundance of elegant names; Austin & Jot decided on Evelyn. I, personally, wouldn’t describe the name Evelyn elegant; maybe old fashion, vintage, early 20th century favorite or connected to a family member.
DeleteI love that name. My mothers name was Evelyn Faye and I miss her dearly.

ReplyDeleteI believe it is a choice between her and Austin....and no one else.
DeleteJoy could make the choice for both of them. Just don’t tell Austin....
