Counting On 'A Baby Girl for Joe and Kendra"
- At 38 weeks pregnant, Kendra says she has a boost of energy and has used that to accomplish necessary tasks before Addison arrives. The youngest Duggar siblings come over to help Joe and Kendra clean and move furniture. The kids also end up devouring Kendra’s fresh biscuits.
- “Sometimes when you have little helpers, they do create sometimes more of a mess than actually helping,” says Kendra, laughing, although she admits to feeling a lot more ready after having help from the siblings.
- “Having your second child, it’s a little bit more work, but it’s manageable,” says Jim Bob. “When you have three, then you’re outnumbered. And then when you have four our five, it starts getting a little busier. And then eventually those little ones get old enough to help out, and it kind of levels out a little bit.”
- The Seewalds take Henry, almost three years old, back to the speech therapist for a follow-up evaluation. The therapist determines that Henry has caught up and is doing well.
- In Los Angeles, Felicity tries out her new scooter. “Felicity’s very adventurous, loves trying new things,” says Jeremy. Later, Jeremy receives a skateboarding lesson from famous skateboarder Brian Sumner. Both guys are Christians and experienced a major life transformation when they came to know the Lord.
- “I had a similar darkness in my life, where I was consumed with playing soccer, but I was also living a life that wasn’t honoring to Christ.” says Jeremy. “I ended up getting arrested. I was drinking, I was partying in college, just being a foolish young guy. And it was really that night, when I got arrested, out late at night, 3:00 in the morning, I realized I can’t live like this and call myself a Christian. And that was the turning point for me, where, from that point forward, I made the decision, ‘I’m going to actively serve Christ with my life.’”
- Five days before her due date, Kendra starts having significant contractions and is about four centimeters dilated. At bedtime, she and Joe drop Garrett off at the Caldwell house. They return home and end up going to the hospital at 1am. Kendra is unsure about going and does not want to interrupt anyone’s sleep, but Joe insists that it’s time.
- When she is admitted, Kendra is still only four centimeters dilated, so she and Joe walk the halls. Before too long, her water breaks, and her mom arrives. She feels the need to push, but her doctor is delivering another baby at another hospital. The nurses tell her to wait, but when Kendra says she doesn’t care if the doctor is present, the nurses decide to go ahead with the delivery. Addison Renee Duggar arrives at 5:33am on November 2nd, weighing 7 lbs 12 oz.
- Later that morning, other family members, including Garrett, come by the hospital to meet the new addition.
I loved.. loved precious little Felicity on her scooter!!! So cute when Jinger said to Felicity do you want to go this way... Felicity gets off the scooter and starts walking that way... I died laughing....I had to keep rewinding and watching her scooter scene!!!! Also, was fun watching Jeremy learning to skateboard !!! TLC Please give Jinger and Jeremy their own show... they do so many creative fun things together ... I only watch Counting On on demand with my cable and fast forward to Jinger and Jeremy....Love.. Love their little family❤️❤️
ReplyDeletedoesn’t want to wake anyone up?? grow a spine girlfriend! goodness that breaks my heart to hear that.
ReplyDelete9:47 I know. She needs to learn to stand up for herself or nobody else will stand up for her either.
DeleteExactly she is not a child anymore but a wife and mother of two. She should learn to act like an adult and develop a back bone. I hope she does not expect her parents and hubby to defend her all the time.
DeleteIt was a really great show tonight. I enjoyed Jeremy's story of how he realized he wanted to serve the Lord. With Kendra's labor, I was surprised the nurses delivered Addison! When I had my son 25 years ago, and my doctor was busy with a c-section, the nurses would not deliver the baby and told me "that's not going to happen", and they pulled a random doctor from the hallway to attend the birth.
ReplyDeleteAnyone with a medical background can deliver a baby as needed. You cant stop a woman who is ready to push. Her body is going to do it even if she's trying not to. The issue that happens sometimes are all doctors are occupied. Thus, nurses, np, EMTs, etc. can deliver the baby. It is safer than women delivering on there own with noone there.
DeleteI liked all of the show. Felicity was having lots of fun on her scooter. I loved her big smiles. It was nice of the younger ones to help Kendra and Joseph. I also liked going down memory lane. It was nice to meet Addison Renee Duggar. I can't wait for next week's episode. I enjoy watching the rerun's of old seasons of Counting On. Can't wait to see season 12 to begin hopefully this year if the pandemic doesn't interfere. Natasha B.
ReplyDeleteSince we've already seen Kendra giving birth, can this be called "rebirthing"?
ReplyDeleteIn this day and age, I cannot fathom a laboring mother being told to "wait" until the doctor comes to start pushing. Rose Kennedy was subjected to that treatment over a hundred years ago and her child suffered brain damage as a result.
ReplyDeleteWow, they had another daughter already!?
ReplyDeleteIt’s the same one. The show is super behind
DeleteI watched Felicity learn to ride her new scooter. I fast forwarded through ALL of the skate boarding by Jeremy’s friend. I watched the first part of Kendra’s house because I was interested in seeing the four youngest Duggar girls. I fast forwarded through Kendra’s labor and delivery. I hit delete after realizing all of the births from the last 10 years were going to be revisited. The End.
ReplyDeleteYOUR LOSS I WATCHED THE WHOLE THING AND WOULD AGAIN
DeleteI didn't like the way Jeremy and the skate guy said they were out in public and "testified" (or whatever) to people they met instead of skating. There's nothing more annoying than some zealot coming up to you in public to talk about Jesus or their own religion. I can't believe some churches think this is a welcome thing. It's not. It's invasive.
ReplyDeleteI don’t like it either. I always try to respectfully tell them that I’m not interested but they keep insisting and insisting and it’s just disrespectful at that point.
DeleteWhy don't you just speak up and say I'm not interested in hearing what you have to say, and then if they persist, walk away? They have the right to talk, and you have the right to walk away.
DeleteAnd yet there are people who are truly looking and do turn to Jesus when complete strangers talk to them.
DeleteIf you are in a town or city that is unknown to you, it can be scary to be approached by a stranger. I know that it’s not, but I would think, “Cult,” and get away as fast as I could. Don’t do that, gentlemen. Find a better way.
DeleteI agree. I've never understood this need to accost strangers to try to "save" them. I have enough trouble with the Jehovah's Witness people coming to my house to "share" with me, that I think everyone should back off "testifying" to strangers.
DeleteAgreed. That was gross.
DeleteYou people are acting like us Christians run up to people in public and hold them against their will and make them listen to us witness about our Savior. That is not the case at all. As a matter of fact I was just witnessing to a friend I haven't seen in a long time in Target store and when she told me about her husband in the Hospital with a serious heart condition I told her how the Lord healed my husband in the later stages of MS. My husband was crippled at this point and his speech was pretty much gone and God gave me scriptures to hold onto and trust for and that was 8 years ago and my husband is completely healed now. Little did I know there was a crowd of 7 people behind me listening and when I turned around and seen them I could see they needed the hope I was sharing with my friend. Witness, tell people, people need to know Him and how much He loves us. Never stop telling them. Someone cared enough to tell me, please tell others.
Delete@9:37 If you want to turn to Jesus, find a church. They're all over the place, in every denomination you could want. Don't approach strangers in public and don't let them approach you. That's not the place or time for that.
Delete@8:21 You've never been standing on a NYC subway platform waiting for a train when someone decided to share The Good News to a captive audience? You've never been walking around at a public event (a fair, a street party) or in Times Square and had a group with tracts stop you? You've never been working in your yard when a pair of young men with white shirts and black ties came down the street on bikes to talk to you about a third part to the Bible? You've never had a group show up on your front porch and not want to leave before telling you about their beliefs? You've never been in your house when tracts got pushed through the mail slot or under the door? You've never been walking on a public sidewalk when someone shouted from the corner what your fate could be after death? You've never taken your child trick-or-treating only to find later that cartoon gospel tracts were slipped into the candy bag at some house? I've experienced all those things. That's what we're talking about. Those things are inappropriate to do to strangers.
DeleteAnon 11:34 this is 8:21. I don't live in NY, I live in a more remote area. It sounds like some Christians in NY are being too aggressive. I don't agree with someone standing on a corner yelling down the street to someone that they will go to hell etc. I don't believe in going door to door like some religions or denominations do. I have left Bible tracts on grocery store shelves here and there, I have also put tracts in cute little bags along with candy bars for trick or treat for the kids. What I do is when in public I look for opportunities to share Jesus with people. There have been countless times when in checkout lines or restaurants etc. where people will just start talking to you and they get to talking about a hard time they are having and so I share a quick testimony with them of how I was helped in a similar situation or a family member was helped or a friend etc. You would be surprised how people respond to someone telling them that there is hope in their situation because God is able to Save, heal, restore, supply, and to meet that need. I am sorry that you have had very uncomfortable experiences like you described and I just want you to know that most Christians are a lot more respectful and careful not to cause people to run from God by the way we act.
Delete8:21- Problem is, some don’t take no for an answer. Case in point- my extensive experience with infamous door knockers. I understand that in order to be in good standing with the JW church, they have quotas to fill with saving souls. They are invading my privacy by coming uninvited to my home and continuing to do so after repeatedly telling them not to return.
DeleteBut it's ok for people to riot in the streets burn down buildings steal from hard working Americans because their"protesting"that's ok right but Christians don't have the right to speak in public and say there's hope there's a better way? No keep sharing GOD'S WORD
DeleteTo all of you trying to tell people to stop talking to others -- It's called FREE SPEECH.
Deleteanon@8:21- Something that you might not be considering is that people may feel put on the spot or intimidated by those who are compelled to confront, proselytize and may be hesitant to just walk away for fear of appearing rude. I've learned the hard way with Jehovah's Witnesses who come to my door and have had to be blunt about not being interested and telling them not to come back. That doesn't even deter them, because they do return! It's reprehsible that they somethimes send their children to the door, with the hopes that people will be reluctant to reject them.
Delete@8:12 Free speech doesn't give you the right to approach strangers and bother them with anything, not even your thoughts.
Delete@8:43 If I found a tract in a little bag of candy in my child's Halloween bag, that bag of candy would be put in the trash because it would stand out as very odd. Have you thought about how that looks to parents who have candy safety first in mind that night? You might mean well, but it would be a red flag for a parent checking the candy.
DeletePatricia- Who is saying that it's ok to riot, steal, and burn down building?
DeletePlease do not confuse JW with Christians. They are not the same, although some claim they are. The main difference is that JW do not believe in the deity of Christ. When JW come to our house, we ask them specific biblical questions and they tell us to “have a good day” and leave. They don’t even try to answer the questions.
DeleteI drank and partied in college and so did everyone else I knew. We didn't consider this "darkness." Nobody got arrested. We had a great time, made lots of good memories, and some met their spouses that way. You're only young once.
ReplyDeleteSame! I partied and drank a lot in college, and it didn’t stop me from getting good grades, showing up to class every single day, or being a good daughter, aunt, friend. It’s all about balance.
DeleteThere are I’m sure, teenage kids reading this blog. I’m not sure encouraging that stuff and painting it as a pretty picture is right. So I’m going to go ahead and say that I did that stuff too. It brought me into more darkness and sin. I look back and am very sorry and see a lot of wasted time and selfishness. Yes, you’re only young once and what you do then can affect the rest of your life. Let’s teach the youth to love more than just a good time.
DeleteI would say there’s a difference between drinking and partying and getting black out drunk to the point where you can’t really control your actions, and that’s more so what they’re talking about.
DeleteLOL -- okay. For those of us who follow the Bible, going against what God says is "darkness," and we're to have no part of it.
DeleteYou can't "balance" dark with light. It doesn't work that way.
DeleteThe nurses tell Kendra to wait, lol,I don't think she can keep the baby in if she's ready to come out,I could understand if they said she's not dilated enough and probably won't give birth for hours so the doctor will be back in time, but they made it sound like baby's ready to come out but you can keep her in if you try,if the nurses are working in that department it means they are trained to deliver a baby in doctors absence unless they were afraid some complications would arise and they would need a doctor but they are in a hospital surely they will find one!
ReplyDeleteWhy is everyone coming to clean their house? Is it just to fill the show? Their house already looks extremely clean! I wish I had a team of people come and clean my house! Btw, I didn’t like how the nurses told her not to push, how awful! I gave birth with no drugs, and if someone told me to not push and hold that baby in, they wouldn’t like what I have to say!!!
ReplyDeleteMy question is... Why is the house not already clean? Her job is staying home to take care of the house and kids, is it not?
DeleteHow many more times do they expect people to want to watch those births? That was nuts.
ReplyDeleteI had my son 45 yrs.ago. I felt so alone, couldn't talk to my mom or mom-in-law. Would of gave anything to be able to watch a birth on TV.
DeleteSeriously! Isn’t Addison almost a year old? I know the birth has been shown already. This is getting ridiculous.
DeleteNever... want to see the moans and screens of child birth... I think it’s in poor taste ... Jinger knew how to show the birth in good taste.... Don’t need to see the bloody parts .... we have seen enough of that ... I just don’t watch that....also there are meds to take so you don’t have to endure that kind of pain ...This is 2020... get with modern meds! You guys act like you are a martyr for doing it....,
DeleteJust think we get to see Lauren give birth next, then Abbie. Who knows why people watch but obviously they do or the show would be cancelled.
Delete3:58, not everyone wants to chance the side effects of the meds. Not everyone wants a needle in their spine.
Delete10:10 : I have had a needle in my spine three times and it's no big deal and didn't hurt any worse than a smaller needle you get shot with in other locations.
DeleteWhy was it necessary to say Jeremy got skateboard lesson from another Christian? It doesn't matter if the person is Christian or not.
ReplyDeleteBecause it was a talking point on the show?
DeleteSpeak for yourself. Maybe it does matter to some of us.
DeleteGood question 8:19. Here's where we get into the gray area of Christians only wanting to associate with other Christians, or only wanting to do business with other Christians. To me, that's a bad form of discrimination. I've seen the Duggars do this repeatedly, both on the show and in their "real" lives. It's as if you're not worthy if you're not their kind of Christian. Is that Biblical? Jesus associated with all types.
DeleteTo 8:19pm.. This is the part they where they both were saying what God has done in their lives... so as CHRISTIANS they were giving their testimony ... so it was VERY NECESSARY 🙏😍
DeleteThat is exactly right. I don’t say, things like, “I have an appointment with my stylist. She’s a Christian.” Or, “ Call the plumber. He’s a Christian.”
Delete@10:13 Then why couldn't Jeremy have said that by himself? Why did they set it up that he would be with another reformed Christian to talk about that?
Delete2:00pm - I'm not 10:13, but I think this is an example of the family using the show as a ministry. Jeremy and the skateboarder are sharing their testimonies in hopes others will have a similar transformation. Hearing about others' journeys to Christ may help someone in the audience with similar circumstances (divorce or feeling of aimlessness) take steps toward change. Jeremy was giving the skateboarder a national audience rather than his normal skate park.
DeleteWhy didn't the nurse call another doctor if the Kendras doctor was busy. My doctor wasn't at the hospital when I had my youngest, I had a doctor that was there deliver my youngest. I wasn't happy about it but at least he was there.
ReplyDeleteOhioMama
That's pretty much how it worked at the hospital where I had my kids. You went to labor and delivery and got the doctor that was on duty there. If your doctor was on duty then you got him/her. I don't see it as any big deal to have another doctor deliver your baby.
DeleteI was just comfortable with my doctor, plus the doctor who delivered my youngest seemed to be impatient. He was very quick to tell the nurse to get the vacuum set up to help get my youngest out. I wasn't even pushing for a 1hr when he said that. Plus my kids heartbeat and breathing wasn't in trouble. The office I went when I had my oldest had 5 doctors in the office and I had to see each of them thru my pregnancy, and no matter what one of them would deliver me. I pushed for an hour and the doctor didn't once mention getting a tool. It was two different hospitals, states and office. But that's why I didn't like the Dr who delivered my youngest.
DeleteOhioMama
This is what annoys me about births, I know nurses are knowledgeable and have seen hundreds of births, but with my first son they were going to send me home because I was only 2 cm dilated, then I went to change and my water broke and I kept asking the nurse to check me because I feel pressure and she insisted there was no way I could dilate that fast because she just checked me 30 min ago and I was a 2. Well she checked after me insisting, and I was a 6, then then and hour and a half later I told her I had to push, she didn’t believe me and said that’s not possible! Well when I couldn’t help it I pushed anyway then she looked down there and freaked out! She had to pull a doctor out of the hallway! So it irritates me when nurses don’t believe their patients, and think they know everything about labor, when every labor is different.
ReplyDeleteI had quite similar situation. I was in labor for just about 2 hrs, and I felt like I need to push, like now. Called a nurse, they were like "Oh, you can't be pushing now, you have like 8-10 hours to go..." So in the next 10 minutes I pushed, and the baby came out, I was freaking out because I did not expect it, I thought maybe like my intestines of something are coming out from a push :). So they ran to me, and oops, the baby is out! They have listen to a woman, because it is the woman who gives birth and she knows what she feels!!
Delete10:40AM: Your story is so similar to mine, it's crazy. I thought for a second that I posted that comment, and didn't remember posting it.
DeleteYou would have been the exception to the rule. Most of the time when women want to be checked that soon after the last time, they haven’t progressed that much. Nurses are actually supposed to check as little as possible because it increases the risk of infection for the baby, especially if the water has broken. Yes every labor is different, but they do tend to follow a pattern. Feeling the urge to push is usually a pretty good indicator of how advanced you are though! I’m glad your labor went well! We’re your other births as fast?
DeleteI’m glad I had a midwife for my 2nd baby, it didn’t go as fast and smooth as my first, when it came time to push, it was intense back labor, I could not push him out on my back, I thought that was just how you pushed a baby out, on your back. But my midwife suggested hands and knees position, it was still hard but I was making way more progress, he was sunny side up! If I had a regular doctor, I’m not sure they would have suggested that position, who knows what they would have done. And I’m tired of nurses and doctors saying your 2nd baby is faster, that’s not always the case! My first labor was 3 hours start to finish, my second was 24 hours!
DeleteOn my goidness, this must be more common then I thought because I had the same thing happen to me. My Doctor wasn't even in the Hospital and when the nurse called him, he was home. I was only in the Hospital 22 minutes when my son was born and was told by the nurse as I was in labor to just try to relax and the Doctor will be here within the hour. She walked out of the room and my husband who was standing by my bed said, can you wait? I couldn't and felt like my blood pressure was skyrocketing so I pushed, and my water broke and another push and my baby's head was now out, and so my husband yelled for the nurse and she ran in and my baby was at this point coming all the way out. So I can technically say, I delivered my third child by myself. lol Moms know when their baby is ready and needs to come out.
DeleteLittle Henry stole the show, he was so cute at that appointment with a speech therapist!
ReplyDeleteWe did see Kendra giving birth in a special during or after the previous season. And I still can't get over how the nurses were telling Kendra to stall the labor just so that the doctor could come in! Do they have just 1 doctor at that hospital on duty? Like people go to hospitals because they want a doctor to attend the birth, not a nurse! If not this particular doctor who followed her, but I'm sure someone other doctor had to be there!! And if it's not the case, what kind of hospital is this?? I definitely would not like the idea of continuing experiencing the excruciating pain just because the doctor is nowhere to be found!
Well, hope people start criticising the Duggars for their home births now, after all the obstetrician will only have the mother to concentrate on at home births,my sister in law ended up being stranded in her hospital room on her own with no doctor or nurse, nurse came in occasionally, but when she actually gave birth nurse was nowhere to be seen, when another patient said her baby was born with umbelical cord around the neck and doctor had to cut it before she choked,my sister in law was horrified at the thought of what could have happened when she gave birth on her own if something had gone wrong, and as for Jessa having bled after giving birth she should have been at the hospital well ambulance probably arrived about same time it would take for a nurse to find a doctor for a patient already admitted and Jessa would have been seen to straight away on arrival as it would have been seen as an emergency.
DeleteJessa required a blood transfusion after Spurgeon's birth. Even with your scenario, she would be treated faster in the hospital than at home. She would still need to be taken to the hospital and then set up for the transfusion. She may have avoided a transfusion completely if she was already in the hospital if they could have administered pitocin before her massive amount of blood loss.
DeleteDuggar home births are attended by lay midwives who lack the medical training of an obstetrician or even the nurses who delivered Kendra's baby. Jessa had to be transferred after Ivy's birth for pitocin because those attending were not licensed to administer it.
Joy's attempted homebirth with Gideon led to an immediate emergency c-section because her midwife and Jill didn't know Gideon's position.
Homebirth is a great option when attended by competent medical personnel. A CNM would be a great option. However, each of the Duggar sisters who have given or attempted to give birth at home are now high risk. Jill and Joy are high risk because of their c-sections and Jessa is due to multiple post partum hemorrhages.
Why wasn't Jeremy wearing knee pads and elbow pads? Did he really think his head was going to be the first thing to hit the ground?
ReplyDeleteIt was a really good show this week. And I enjoyed the second one hour, revisiting all the births. Very enjoyable
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. Thanks for the recap! I didn’t see the show. Kendra has three kids now— a son and two daughters. But Kendra is so young! I hope Michelle helped sweet Kendra with the labor.
ReplyDeleteKendra only has 1 daughter. This was a recap in case people have forgotten about the birth😬
DeleteKendra will be turning 22 in August. She has a 2 year old son Garrett and a daughter Addison who is 9 months now. I think it's normal for a 22 year old. She got married, had a honeymoon baby, then another baby. Now they have have a boy and a girl. Maybe they will be holding off on more kids.
DeleteJeremy is too old to learn skateboarding! I see kids about 13 at the skatepark in my neighborhood. So silly.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone is "too old" to learn a new activity, but this appears to be a "made for TV" thing rather than a new hobby for Jeremy.
DeleteMy favorite was Felicity on the skateboard. She is adorable. And I bet she will have a great sense of humor. And wasn’t Henry the rock star! His word learning was amazing! Give an A to the grandkids on this show.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how soon after this kind of delivery Kendra will fully recover emotionally and would want to have any baby, to go through this again! One thing I also don't understand: she was obviously suffering very much. Why no epidural? What's wrong with having an epidural? Like why subject yourself to suffering? Jinger got her epidural and was quite happy.
ReplyDeleteHaving an epidural can create problems with Cerebrospinal Fluid Leaks. These are often treated with an epidural blood patch, but often it takes several blood patches over six months or more for the blood patch to hold. CSF Leaks cause horrible headaches when vertical and often people with them are pretty much bed-ridden. Some people (such as myself) are at a higher risk of CSF Leaks due to connective tissue disorders. Of course we don't know Kendra's reason, but the point is there are many reasons a woman may choose a natural birth over the potential risks of an epidural, .
DeleteThere can be side effects from an epidural, and some people don't like the thought of the needle in their spine. I was required by my doctor to watch an epidural video before my first baby, and that grossed me out too much to want to have an epidural.
DeleteThank God Kendra's baby was ok!! She practically gave birth without any help, the nurse just caught the baby that came out on its own! What's the advantage of the hospital then? No doctor, no help.
ReplyDelete??? That's pretty much what happens when women give birth. The baby just comes out and someone "catches" it. The advantage of being in hospital is that if there is a need for medical assistance it's right there rather than having to make a run to the hospital ER.
DeleteIf you get into trouble at a home birth, you have to call an ambulance, wait for it to arrive, hope the crew can handle what's going on, and then wait to be transported, bumping along in the back of an ambulance while you're having your problem. That can waste valuable time. If you're in the hospital, they call a code, a team comes running to your room, and it's all hands on deck, no wasted time. Every resource you'd need is there.
DeleteIf Kendra had really needed a doctor for something critical, they would have found one. When she gave birth the first time and had a doctor, that might have meant that he or she was unavailable for another woman in labor, like happened to Kendra this time. A doctor can't be 2 places at once.
Why on Earth would you not wake someone up or get help when you are in labor like that??? She is so timid and meek. I hope she starts to mature quickly, for her children's sake.
ReplyDelete
