Bella Duggar is eight days away from her five-month milestone. In a recent video from TLC, Josiah and Lauren Duggar share a few thoughts on parenting (link below). It seems like just yesterday they were talking about preparing for Bella's arrival.

ReplyDeleteIf she's concerned about parenting a five month old, she has too much time on her hands. There's not much parenting involved at that stage.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you demeaning someone for wanting to be a conscientious parent? First-time parents especially.
DeleteI disagree. Although different to parenting as they get older, There is development through play and the move to their own room and weaning on the horizon. Lots of changes.

DeleteI’m sure Lauren isn’t at all concerned about parenting a little baby, she is the oldest of a large family. Parenting is by no means a walk in the park, but it is a rewarding. You can already tell they are doing a great job! Also, it’s not very nice to make assumptions.
DeleteNot much parenting involved? Taking care of a baby Requires parental involvement. Babies require round the clock care, they are helpless and completely rely on parents to provide their every single need. Once the baby is old enough to talk, walk, climb, jump, develop own opinions and ideas etc parents have to be on their toes constantly. Perhaps that is what your comment leans towards? Discipline, correction, education, instilling morals and values is parenting and when they are babies it is care taking?
DeleteIf you watched the video, you will see that Lauren was not “concerned,” but spoke of her thankfulness to be Bella’s mom and watching her grow.
DeleteSeriously? Babies soak up everything. They are smart, thinking beings. Always parenting at every stage gives you intelligent beings
DeleteBeing concerned has nothing to do with the amount of time you have on your hands. Most women are very good at thinking about one thing while doing another, especially when it comes to all the manual work that goes into taking care of a home and family. As to being concerned about parenting, I fail to see how that's a bad thing.

DeleteI'm sure that Lauren being an oldest of 9 siblings knows how to care for a baby! Same for Josiah who is #8 out 19 kids and has experience if not caring for full time but at least being around and helping with so many younger siblings. They both seem to be great parents and really happy to have this baby in their lives!

Anon 3.42. I have to disagree. Parenting an infant is extremely challenging, especially for a first time mum who will be full of anxieties about whether they are doing things right or wrong. Obviously as the baby grows into a toddler the challenges are different & there is more physical running around after the child & discipline starts to play an important role in how you parent. However all the stages of a child are different & all bring challenges. I think the first year of a child’s life is a difficult one as it’s where your at your most vulnerable as a parent. I can’t access the video in the UK so can’t see Lauren’s comments but I’m sure like all other first time mums she is simply anxious to make sure she is getting everything right for Bella & that’s what she is referring to.
DeleteBeing a mother of a 5 month old is hard work. At that age they can't tell you what they want or need. A first time mom wants to get it right. Also, just because your name is Duggar or you came from a large family doesn't automatically make you a good parent. It's a learning experience.

DeleteSo what does Josiah do for work? I knew he stated he was taking his first year of marriage off from work to focus on married life so what’s he doing now?

DeleteHe was talking about being intentional for the first year and making sure to spend a lot of time with his new wife. He never said that he wouldn’t be working! He just wasn’t going to do a lot of extras like golfing or fishing or hanging out with the guys. He wanted to start their marriage off right and keep it a priority.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure they want to be the best parents ever, but since they've spent their entire lives in a protective bubble they don't have much insight into the problems most of us face in trying to juggle money, work and home life.

DeleteI was surprised to hear Josiah's story about changing Bella's diapers. I didn't think many of the Duggar men did that sort of thing. Nice to hear about him taking an active role in his child's life.

ReplyDeleteThey must not have very strict rules during this covid 19 mess to be out like that. My town has us on a very short leash.
ReplyDeleteThat's unfortunate. Vitamin D is very helpful to your immune system, and being out in nature is a great mental and emotional boost, which also is good for your immune system.
DeleteAre you in a hotspot? Getting fresh air and vitamin D is so good for you!
DeleteBeing on a "short leash" is much better than having a "carrier" of this virus infecting your entire town. No it's not nice to be locked down but it is an effective way to get this disease under control.
DeleteThe governor of their state seems to be lagging behind the rest of the country with lockdown rules... Which is a shame, because if some people don't cooperate, then if has an effect on the rest of the world.
Delete10:30- There have been problems in urband areas with crowds of people in parks, on walking trails, etc., all trying to get fresh air at the same time. That defeats the purpose of social distancing. I'm fortunate to live in a rural area where I can take long hikes without ever coming into contact with anyone else. City officials are walking a fine line with this crisis. Those who have maintain a "short leash" are doing so with the health of the community in mind and to blunt the curve of infections.
DeleteA lot of towns are still encouraging people to get out and walk. We have seen more neighbors than ever walking around or riding bikes. Everyone is careful to maintain their distance, but it is good to get out of the house.

Delete8:18, yes, obviously any place can become a hotspot. I asked because where I live we are not in a hotspot, and we are not required to be locked away in our houses. We can get out for fresh air, away from others.
