John Duggar paints Abbie Duggar's nails
-John-David Duggar
It's Duggar night! Be sure to tune in to TLC at 9pm ET/8pm CT for an episode featuring a garden party, a visit to the site of the Seewalds' engagement, a gender reveal gone wrong, and the early start of Jessa's labor. This evening's show, Counting On "Five Pregnancies and Counting," is already available on the TLC website for those who have login credentials from their TV provider.
In honor of tonight's new episode of Counting On, we're sharing this web exclusive video from TLC featuring John and Abbie Duggar. Who knew that John was such a good nail artist? We sure didn't.

That is too cute! π πΌ
ReplyDeleteThat's cute. My husband does most of the cooking, does all the oil changes and repairs on the cars (brakes, installs winter tires, changes spark plugs etc) and cuts grass in summer, shovels in winter. I do all the cleaning, laundry, food shopping, decorating for Christmas, and party organization. We're pretty 50/50. I have a really good hubby❤️
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't do your nails? Oh well he's not "John Boy" so you get to go to the nail salon and have them done.
DeleteNo thanks!! I want a trained nail tech!
ReplyDeleteMO- AGREE!! I wonder if he knows you're supposed to sterilize the cuticle clippers? There's a reason why nail salon techs need to be licensed. Since JD has so much time on his hands, he should get a job and happily pay for a relaxing manicure for Abbie. Now that would be a great husband- LOL :o)
DeleteIsn't the sterilization because of multiple customers using the tools, which doesn't apply in this situation?
DeleteYou can still infect a single person with a dirty tool.
DeleteResponse to 8:34AM- MO- Absolutely not! It doesn't matter if it's your germs and bacteria or someone else's, you can get a nasty infection if interments are not cleaned correctly. Let's face it, just because John saw someone giving a manicure doesn't mean that he knows what he's doing. The fact that he's cutting her cuticles is beyond just polishing her nails. :o(
DeleteI find this very controlling. Let your wife go get her nails worked on and have some alone time. Nobody is going to touch her hand who shouldn't be touching it.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t hear Abbie fussing about not having alone time. While I personally think some of these intimacies between a married couple should be kept private, I certainly don’t see John David as controlling.
DeleteControlling? I think Abby enjoys her husband doing it for her.
DeleteDon't project. From the video, Abby obviously appreciates it.
DeleteI hadn't thought of it that way. I just thought he was being a cheapskate.
DeleteShe looks like she enjoys having her husband do it for her. I don’t see what you’re seeing whatsoever!
DeleteIf my husband was up to it I would prefer having my nails done by him than paying a stranger.
I totally agree with you!
Deletetoo Bad they don’t care what you think lol
DeleteWhen my elderly mom was in the care center, my dad did her nails for her. She always had beautifully manicured nails that she always did herself, but toward the end of her life she wasn’t able to do them. Not really knowing how to do it, my dad stepped up and kept her nails done, knowing how she felt about her nails. I loved him for it.
DeleteHe is so head over heels in love. So cute.
ReplyDeleteThis couple is too cute π
ReplyDeleteLOL. I think JD has too much time on his hands.
ReplyDeleteI bet Abbie enjoyed going to the salon.
Yes. I always think of having my nails done as a special treat. I do them myself most of the time but having a manicure and/or m pedicure is so relaxing and such fun. I can't imagine having my husband doing that.
DeleteHey, if that's what he wants to do in his free time, why not?
DeleteYou bet she enjoys the salon? I don't enjoy the nail salon at all. It takes my valuable time to drive there and sit there, costs money I'd rather spend on clothes, and you have to wonder about sanitation of equipment. I'd rather do it myself and would be thrilled if a family member offered to treat me.
DeleteJohn painting fingernails? Are you serious? This is beyond silly.
ReplyDeleteNot really. Spending time doing a service for your spouse is an investment in the relationship, and that is never silly.
DeleteIt's sweet, not silly!
DeleteUnless Abbie is unhappy with it, it's really sweet on John's part.
DeleteAbbie’s face (in the freeze frame for the video) does not look satisfied lol
ReplyDeleteI agree. Abby looks resigned in this photo.
DeleteI like to get my nails done by a certified nail tech. I enjoy my "alone" time.
Yeah, but she does if you watch the video.
DeleteIt looks like she wants to roll her eyes and say, "Oh brother".
DeleteYeah. Little did she know she was married to "Scrooge McDuck"and couldn't go to the nail salon to have her nails done.
DeleteCompletely agree...let your wife go to the nail salon!!
DeleteI think she looks like he is being sweet. Quit looking for problems, People. They love spending time together. Good for them.
DeleteDon't be silly, 1:41. Ducks don't have nails. π¦π
DeleteIf it makes Abby happy then that is fine. I enjoy my trips to the salon.
ReplyDeleteThat's the sweetest thing I've seen in a while! :)
ReplyDeleteSo sweet and romantique
DeleteThink it's weird have your husband to do your nails. Feel it's a treat to get my done along with coloring my hair. Thanks have a great day, Ledabeth
ReplyDeleteMaybe she thinks it's a treat for him to do it.
DeleteDon't give John any ideas. Next he'll be doing Abbie's hair to "save money".
Delete@8:13 The older Duggar girls often cut their brothers' hair, and I assume each others' as well.
DeleteThere are many potential reasons someone might want their nails done: because they like how painted nails look, they like how getting a manicure feels, or they want to go do something alone. If it's just the first two for Abbie, John can do that! Since they don't have a baby yet I'm sure she has plenty of alone time. And I think it's extra special to have your spouse give your body TLC like that.
Ugh...she can’t even just go have her nails done anymore!
ReplyDeleteFYI-John - manicurists do not make a lot of money unless they are tipped well. Was Abbie tipping too well for you John?
She looks miserable???? Where has all the kindness gone?
DeletePerhaps Abby prefers it as well. Where has all the kindness gone?
Delete?? You still save money by doing it yourself.
DeleteTrue. Somehow I don't see John as a generous tipper.
DeletePlease, John, push back the cuticle; don’t clip them!
ReplyDeleteMaybe just doing what he saw at the nail salon?
DeleteI too have read not to cut cuticles but all the pros around me cut them.
DeleteLove that Abbie calls him “John Boy”!
ReplyDeleteI kind of reminders me of Richard Thomas who played John Boy" on the Waltons and Remember when Derek did Jill's toes nails at Jessa and Ben's Wedding because she was very pregnant with Israel. That is what John-David was probably doing for her like Did for Jill.
DeleteShe should call him "Nai Boy". I can see it now. She has a chip in her nail polish and calls John to fix it. lol
DeleteThe outside of the trailer had me a little worried but the inside is decorated very nicely. Is this the first time we've seen where John and Abbie live? I don't mind the nails thing. If Abbie likes it then more power to them. I do hope John would "let her" go to the salon though if she wanted. Sometimes women enjoy going and getting pampered - away from hubby.
ReplyDeleteI agree ... I think their home is lovely. They will be generously rewarded someday for living frugally now. Good for them.
DeleteWas he too cheap to let her go to the salon? The techs really aren't paid "a lot of money." They actually make very little.
ReplyDeleteIs he going to cut her hair also? While he's sweet to want to do this for her maybe she'd rather go to the salon but doesn't want to hurt his feelings. It does come across as controlling.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome ! Way to go John David! Don't listen to the people drinking hate-orade. I think this is a great way to keep more money in the family, while spending quality time with one's loved ones.
ReplyDeleteI love that John David and Abbie are living in a modest modular home, and living within their means.
ReplyDeleteIn order to support his airplane they HAVE to live cheaply. Probably why he's doing Abbie's nails too.
DeleteJessa: I totally got wind that Ben does most of the cooking early on.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he does her nails too
DeleteCan't believe they live in a trailer home. I'm surprised John, being the oldest to get married, didn't have more money saved to live somewhere nicer. But, I think he spent his money on his airplane instead.
ReplyDeleteMany of us have lived in trailer homes. Don't judge ... you live where you want but there are many people making happy lives in modest homes.
DeleteI enjoy going to the nailsalon. Girltime! No way i let my husband do my nails....
ReplyDeleteSomeone please tell my why Abbie can't do her own nails? Is she not capable of doing them or something? Strange situation.
ReplyDeleteNever said she couldn't.
DeleteDidn't John give her a "French manicure"?? Now that is impressive. I can do my own nails but can not give myself or anyone a "French manicure".
DeleteShe probably mentioned how much she'd like to get her nails done and he most likely told her he'd do them since he'd seen it done....once
DeleteOn one hand, I find this rather endearing. On the other, it kind of creeps me out, because it seems controlling on John's part.
ReplyDeleteRight... I am not sure quite what to think! I am single, but truly enjoy getting out to the salon when possible. I'm guessing when I'm married, I will still enjoy that time.
DeleteThis makes me sad. Every woman needs some alone time and a trip to the salon is a perfect get away. Don't take that away from her! You can have her the other 23 hours of the day!
ReplyDeleteDont be sad, as a grown married woman im sure it was Abbies choosing to have her husband do her nails. He prob offered and she gladly accepted im sure. Why assume it was forced on her?
DeleteThis is hilarious. Their daughter will grow up believing that men are supposed to manicure their wife's nails. lol
ReplyDeleteStrange. As someone post, manicurists do not make a lot of money. And thinking it look easy to do does not make you "qualified" to do anything.
ReplyDeleteThe end product looked good! Better than I could do.
DeleteMy husband and 2 oldest boys cut and style us girls hair and paint our nails, do pedicures, etc ( mom and 3 sisters) all the time...my other youngest son too will learn the same traits from their oldest brothers and Daddy. We are a hands on family and the 8 of us love being together so yes, our home too is much like John and Abbies. And we love it too, because we are pampered, and spoiled and would not have it any other way. Way to go John for being the best husband to your wife! Every woman should be so blessed!!
ReplyDeleteThat seems strange to me to have my son's and husband style my daughter's and my hair and paint our nails and give us pedicures. My husband and sons do much more masculine things for us like the heavy lifting things in life. No we get our hair styled and have occasional manicures by professional women. We paint our own nails in between visits.
DeleteAnd you do all the home repairs? Seems like you have an interesting household to say the least.
DeleteThat is wierd... sorry but my husband and son do guy stuff. Your son will be made fun of if he tells his buddies he is made to do this...a shame
DeleteAnon 9:04 Yikes!! I don't want my boys down on the floor giving their sisters pedicures, and doing their nails and styling their hair, let alone doing that for me. That's not a realistic example of a one day man and husband who will be working long hours to provide for his family. Husbands and wives are equal partners in a marriage and one doesn't get to just sit around waiting to be waited on like that. I think There are ways for a man to be loving and romantic to his wife but doing that pedicure, manicure, hair styling and teaching his sons to wait on his sisters and mom in those ways isn't one of those ways. That's just odd behavior.
DeleteFour Pinocchios. lol
DeleteAnon 12:32 - why did you call them “Pinocchio’s?” Not being critical - just don’t get it.
Delete11:24, Pinocchios are given out to denote that a story is false. The more Pinocchios are given, the more unbelievable the story is.
DeleteI think it's great. I do my own nails to save time and money. It's so much easier to have that control.
ReplyDeleteLauren needs to step up and tell him she needs her time at the salon. John is being cheap. It doesn't seem romantic, it seems cheap.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Lauren get involved?
DeleteJohn isn't married to Lauren. He is married to Abbie, so I don't understand why Lauren would get involved.
DeleteTLC is just filling time with dumb stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteYeah. There are no new courtships, engagements, marriages or pregnancy announcements so they do this sort of thing.
DeleteI disagree. I absolutely loved watching John paint Abbie's nails. It was one of the sweetest, most romantic gestures that I've ever seen. I would love to have a husband who would paint my nails.
DeleteI enjoy watching pieces of their daily lives. It's a refreshing change from all the other junk on TV. All the critical people on this website should watch and learn more. They are never critical of other people. We should learn from their examples of frugality and kindness.
DeleteThey are quite critical of other people--those whose beliefs don't align with theirs.
DeleteAww, John! So sweet! But he is the John of all trades so it's really not a surprise!
ReplyDeleteWell, I think that a skilled manicurist should be appreciated for their talent. To claim it "ain't that hard" is a bit flippant, as well as saying they make a lot of money. It all depends on their tips. Somehow I don't see the frugal Duggars as being good tippers. In any event, I wouldn't be at all surprised if after they start having kids, Abbie will be relieved to escape once in awhile all by herself to get her nails done!
ReplyDeleteI feel that John David was being unnecessarily critical. First of all, manicurists don’t make much money. I think it would be difficult working in a salon all day, breathing in some of those chemical smells. It might not be labor intensively hard, as John David said, but it takes skill and patience.
DeleteI think he's being cheap and also doesn't like the fact that her tech might be male.
ReplyDeleteYou aren’t supposed to cut the cuticle.
ReplyDeleteIt's a DIY project so what can you expect.
DeleteYeah, well manicurists do it, so...
DeleteLove seeing this side of him! Abbie is a great partner for him, also i agree with him on spending time with your partner.
ReplyDeleteThis must be related to John's mantra of "buy used, save the difference". Now it's DIY and pay nothing.
ReplyDeletePaying nothing is bad??
Delete9:07, Like anything else, frugality can be taken to extremes. There's a fine line between it and being perceived as a penny-pinching miser.
DeleteDoing your wife's nails isn't extreme.
DeleteWell, that's silly. How many women do their nails at home because it's free? A LOT. Why is it all of a sudden a bad thing when it's the husband who wants to save money?
DeleteJ.ohn and A.bby are J.ust A.wesome
ReplyDeleteI think this is sweet, I hope he is still painting away when they're 60ππΌπ
ReplyDeletePffttt!!! Lol
DeleteGoodness help her then lol
DeleteIf this is all TLC has, then they should just cancel the show. I'm hoping for a new courtship and marriage to save us from more of this sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you say this is all TLC has? This video segment was on the TLC website, not the show.
DeleteSpeak for yourself. If you don't enjoy it, watch something else but let us that enjoy it have it. My goodness, I am praying for you to find some Christmas joy.
DeleteI am so sick of babies, courtships and marriages on these types of shows.
DeleteI actually skim over those sections and watch the daily life portions.
And just when we thought we couldn't love John David anymore..
ReplyDeleteWay to go Abbie! You got a winner!
Honeymoon is over. No more trips to the nail salon for Abbie. Too expensive. She'll get used to it.
ReplyDeleteUh, no. Honeymoon is giving your time and attention to each other.
DeleteAgree, 7:23. You keep the honeymoon alive by being attentive, unselfish, affectionate, etc.
Deletefor someone who supposedly is a 'Jack' of all trades, John has very soft, manicured looking hands. IMO, its just not a sign of a man who works with his hands. (for someone who is always shown as a hands on guy) AND a man can have clean looking hands but still show that they are "working" hands. You all know what I mean by that.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Most men who engage in manual labor have calluses on their hands.
DeleteI just think its strange that he went with her to the nail salon and watched closely enough to be trained in how to do a manicure. That's the strange part. Does he accompany her everywhere?
ReplyDeleteYou asked a great question! Did he actually sit with her in the salon and watch her get her nails done?!
DeleteIs doing your own nails a thing of the past or something? I'm 65 years old and have never been to a manicurist, let alone had my husband trim my nails. Forget the polish, I hate the feel of it. Anyhoo, I much prefer backrubs!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question. No. Women do their nails. However many women (including myself) consider an occasional trip to the nail salon a treat. John's behavior confirms my opinion he's a cheapskate. He's a wealthy young man. To kick up this kind of fuss and go to these lengths to avoid paying what for him would be a very minor expense shows his natural tendency. I personally find it unpleasant.
DeleteBad move on John's part. Never go cheap on women's little perks. Find some other way to cut corners.
ReplyDeleteOnly a bad move if she doesn't like it. If she's happy, it's a good move.
Delete
