Happy Sunday! We wanted to give you an update on the crew that is doing disaster and medical relief work in the Bahamas with MEDIC CORPS. Some have returned home, while others have joined the team. The most recent crew has included Lawson Bate, Nathan Bates, John-David Duggar, Jana Duggar, Abbie Duggar, Jeremiah Duggar and the Duggars' friend Laura.
The team is stationed in Marsh Harbor, in the Abaco Islands, and has been working around the clock and sleeping on the airport floor. They have partnered with organizations like Samaritan's Purse and Team Rubicon to multiply their efforts. Visit the News4Jax website to read a touching story written by one of the anchors.

The Duggars and Bates are doing a fabulous job helping out in the Bahamas. So proud they are working with Samaritans Purse. My prayers are with them. Please keep us posted with more updates if you can Ellie. Can't wait for new season as I am sure they will cover some of this. My prayers are with the storm victims as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they're working around the clock. I'm sure their efforts will be appreciated by those they reach.
ReplyDeleteAwesome story! Praying for all, glad they got a descent meal.
ReplyDeleteIt is admirable that some of the Duggar family has started this rescue organization. I sincerely believe that their motives are good and honest and that they truly want to help. Maybe the complaints sometimes expressed here have to do with the Duggar's privileged life, however. I mean most of us have to go to jobs and aren't free to take so much time off. We also can't afford to buy planes and fly anywhere we choose. I am glad that the Duggars are using their wealth and freedom to help others. At the same time, most of us do not have this privelege. We live ordinary lives. Of course, most of us also do not want our lives to be shown on TV/social media with all the flak that comes with a public life. It's uplifting to see the Duggars doing something positive and trying to make a difference, and it would be great if they became known for their outreach instead of rushed, early marriages and as many babies as possible.
ReplyDeleteSo nice that the airport has reopened at Marsh Harbour. It can handle larger planes which will help with supplies coming in. Too bad Abbie has to sleep on the floor though as she's pregnant.
ReplyDeleteThere are people who sleep on floors because they are so poor and cannot afford beds, some pregnant, some not and they survive.
DeleteIt's scary to think of Abbie being down there, pregnant, without (maybe) access to clean washroom and showering facilities, properly stored and prepared meals. Makes me nervous for her.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I don't think it was a really good idea to go when you're pregnant!!!
DeleteEh, Abbie probably know what's capable of handling.
DeleteCertainly a solid team compiled to truly help!
ReplyDeletePraying Abbie (and ALL of the rest of them) stay safe and healthy. I can’t imagine being pregnant while sleeping on the floor of an airport. May God bless them abundantly for all of their service in such a great time of distress and need. <3
ReplyDeleteI slept on the floor, on a pile of blankets, until I finally got a bed when I was 7 months pregnant. For the first couple of months I lived in a cabin in the woods without electricity or running water, I even had an outhouse. I was young, like Abbie is now, and resilient in ways that I’ve lost with age. She’ll be fine sleeping on the floor. I’m sure they brought camping pads or air mattresses, and that they had a good idea of what they were getting into.
DeleteNot surprised they had to partner with bigger organizations.
ReplyDeleteAll the groups there are working together. That's how relief and recovery operates.
DeleteSo, some of the Duggars and the Bates flew into Nassau on September 3rd. With Lawson home on the 17th and Nathan on the 20th, are the Duggars still there?
DeleteThank you for this story. It’s wonderful how the Duggers and Bates have stepped up to help and i am glad they have teamed up with other known organizations. That should clear up some of the questions and ease some minds that thought maybe they were just getting in the way and not doing legitimate physical work. You can speak volumes about Christ’s love without saying words but by doing service in His name. I’ve heard it said, “Share the Gospel. Occasionally use words.”
ReplyDeleteexactly! i get so tired of reading garbage about these people, by people who have absolutely no clue! and i love even more that with the exception of 'reality tv star lawson bates and his crew', not a single person has been named. they are doing it out of love, not notoriety. and lawson was only named due to the crew finding the group of survivors and he was the one they interviewed. sometimes, actions speak louder than words
DeleteSo grateful for those who sent food and flew it into the Bahamas. Have you heard of anyone collecting food such as can food, etc to take there and anyone who's taking it there? I'd love to help as much as I can. Thank you! God bless those who are helping and the people of the Bahamas. May God be with the 1,300 families that lost their loved ones due to Dorian. We in Florida are so fortunate and very grateful!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely do check out the news4Jax link. What a praiseworthy story! The fruit of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's diligence in training up their children in the Way they should go is continuing to manifest.
ReplyDeleteWhat an example God has given us through this family.
All glory to Him and the power of His Spirit at work in the lives of His children. He is worthy. He is able and willing to use anyone.
Help us, Lord, be faithful in that which is least and we will be made faithful in that which is much.
Why would Abbie goes so she pregnant she can hurt the baby.
ReplyDeleteHer background is in the medical field. I'm sure she's being careful.
DeleteOh calm down.
DeleteI have had four children. Life doesn’t change just because you are pregnant. People go on trips and work full time jobs until the day they deliver. Abby is an RN she probably knows far more about pregnancy than you do.
DeleteI myself went to the Caribbean being pregnant. Nothing bad happened.
Abby is an LPN not RN
DeleteThere's a difference between going on vacation while pregnant and going to a devastated area on a mission trip while pregnant.
DeleteI really admire the servants' hearts of these Duggara and Bates. God bless them.
ReplyDeleteI love these people so much. What they do is so amazing. That story has me crying.
ReplyDeleteGod bless them! They have servant's hearts
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to ask if anyone knows when TLC in the UK may get the new season of counting on. Stuck at home atm on my sofa with 2 herniated spinal discs & thank god for re-runs of this uplifting show on TLC. Just watched the episode of Lauren choosing her wedding dress with her lovely dad being so involved & the twins birthday celebration. Made me realise that it’s nice to just have a joyful show to watch on tv instead of all the inappropriate rubbish that can often be on. Looking forward to seeing the new season & what the nice younger Duggar’s have been up to. It’s put a smile on my face in what has been a very painful few days.
ReplyDeletePraying for a speedy recovery, Fuzzyferet! Thanks for being a loyal reader. :)

DeleteIt was nice of that reporter to give them that meal. I am sure that helped give them a boost to push on. Nice of the volunteers to continue to help as they are doing. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteMay God bless their efforts and keep them all safe.
ReplyDeleteIt’s great that they are able to help, I hope Abbie is staying away from any contaminated water....she’s a smart woman and I know she will take good care of her pregnant self 😀
ReplyDeleteGod bless them and keep them safe.

Why is Medic Corps, a registered LLC, acting as if they are a non-profit organization? They are not registered as one with the state of Arkansas.
ReplyDeleteWho knows? They have applied to be a non-profit with the IRS according to their web site but I'm not sure where that is going.
DeleteI don't know. In MY state any charity or non-profit is required to register as such. The rules may be different in Arkansas.
DeleteI have no reason to believe that the Duggars or Bates are engaged in any sort of wrong doing but this organization should have completed registration with the state of Arkansas as a non-profit/charity before requesting and accepting donations. IMO not doing that was a bad idea.
DeleteI thought LLC's and NPO's were 2 completely different things. No registration in Ark?
DeleteAnon 8:15. A LLC is a for profit business. A NPO is established to benefit others and NOT make a profit. NOP's and charities usually have to make a financial report to the state they're registered as to how the donations given them were spent.
DeleteAgree @ Anon 3:15. Good intentions go even further when the process is transparent, legal, and organized. They’ Come under scrutiny before for the same actions.
DeleteI hope there’s no blowback. Nothing wrong with soliciting donations, other stars and us regular folk do it quite frequently for w/e cause is pertinent in their/our lives.
Again, just be up front. Otherwise it feels like an episode of Gemstones! 😂
I don't understand how an LLC can be non-profit either. I thought LLC's were commercial businesses, for profit.
DeleteAnon 7:24 Since Medic Corps shows a PO Box in Springdale, Ark. it is logical to conclude it is based in Arkansas. In order to solicit donations they should be registered with the Arkansas Secretary of State as a charitable entity. There is no record of that In the SOS's database. Before the Duggars started asking for donations to this group they should have ensured it was operating legally in Arkansas. I think they meant well and genuinely want to help the people in the Bahamas but this group comes across as a bit shady as there is no information on their website as to who is running it or who is accountable for how the donations are spent. Charitable entities in Arkansas are required to file a yearly report showing their finances, who's in charge, etc. The purpose of that law is to cut down on fraud by fake groups collecting money.
DeleteLLC's are a for-profit commercial business. Arkansas state law requires that if the nonprofit corporation intends to solicit charitable contributions, it must also register with the Arkansas Secretary of State. Nonprofit Corporations may not have shareholders or pay dividends, must have specific provisions in its Articles of Incorporation dealing with property distribution upon dissolutions, and must file an annual disclosure statement with the Arkansas Secretary of State, as well as their IRS filings. If this was intended to be a Non-profit, they could have initially registered the business as a Non-profit. Nonprofit corporations must be created for a public benefit, for mutual benefit for its members, or for religious purposes. Becoming a nonprofit corporation is generally a prerequisite to applying for tax-exempt status under IRS Code, such as section 501(c)(3) or section 501(c)(4)- not beginning as an LLC and changing to a Non-Profit. The Arkansas Secretary of state provides a blank set-up template for both the Non-Profit Corporation and the required Non-Profit Articles of Incorporation- they chose the LLC instead of the Non-Profit. The Duggar family is known for their limited government stance, the adult children have all been educated in Business Law (according to Michelle in various episodes, using IBLP's Wisdom Booklets), and the Duggars are no strangers to their legal team.
DeleteBless all the family in the Bahamas, especially hope Abbie takes good care of herself & her little one, it must be difficult her being in that environment while pregnant & I hope she is coping ok with the difficult conditions, both physically & mentally as everything is magnified while pregnant.
ReplyDeleteTeam Rubicon is a great organization of former military members who volunteer their hard-earned expertise and training in various aspects of Search & Rescue and Disaster Relief.
ReplyDeleteIt is good that the Duggars and Bates are working with established, well-organized relief organizations. Instead of starting their own relief organization, they should just join an organization like Samaritan's Purse.
Lily, when are the duggars getting back on TLC ?
ReplyDeleteI thought it was gonna be in october but they don't seem to be on the line-up ?
abbie is aLPN cant do everything a RN does . u can still work as someone else said till ur day of delivery. she doesnt have a disease. mary keim mennonite PROUD OF IT!
ReplyDeleteI thought pride was a bad thing? I love my church, but I think I'm more thankful than proud.
DeleteYou are very right Mary, pregnancy is not an illness & should not be treated as such. Baby is very resilient & the mother protects it well. I was thinking more of Abbie’s psychological well-being, as pregnancy heightens our emotions so much & I'm sure she will e seeing much sadness & devastation while down there. Thankfully she has. John will her for emotional support & i’m Sure they won’t be there too much longer. Btw Mary I never knew anything about mennonites until watching a tv programme recently & I must say it fascinated me. Be proud of whatever religion you are, you have every right to be. As someone who grew up in a mixed religion family in a country where catholics & Protestants fought vigorously about religion I believe everyone has a right to be proud of whatever their belief system is& I have always tried to accept everyone for who they are because of it.
