    3. Jessa hasn't had any problems giving birth, she had to go to the hospital after her first because she lost a lot of blood. No problem with her second home birth and no problem with her last home birth.

    4. 10:55 - The paramedics were called again that means there was some kind of problem during Ivy's birth.
Jessa's hemorrhaging was related to giving birth to Spurgeon. A successful home birth includes a healthy mother. If the paramedics were called again due to loss of blood, it means that it is a recurring issue for her and would be best for Jessa to give birth where it can be quickly and easily attended to.

      Delete
    5. You are right @10:55. Loss of blood and two ambulances for 2 out 3 births is a clear indicator of no problems๐Ÿ˜ณ

      Delete
    6. @10:55AM I wouldn't think that needing to go to the hospital because you're losing blood is "no problem." And yes, she did have a problem with her last home birth (Ivy) because they ended up in the hospital once again.

    2. Well, it turns out that they were planning to have her at a birthing center and then had to change plans. She got the care she needed, case closed.

      Delete
    3. 2:04 - Jessa had to get emergency care because those attending her birth could not attend to her medical needs. Her life was at risk, flippantly saying "case closed" to a medical emergency is ridiculous.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous @ 2:04- Yes, Jessa got the care she needed, but it unnecessarily cost the Paramedics time they may have been needed on another call. Jessa has a well-established issue; she was inconsiderate of her locale's emergency medical resources at best and Ben is just as complicit. No one should have been surprised that a pregnant Duggar needed emergency transport.

    1. This episode has already been filmed and edited since it is airing next week. They wouldn’t have known at that time, to capture special or extra featured footage of Grandma Duggar, since she died as a result of an unexpected accident. They might show an “in memory of” credit, at the end. Would be nice to see a compilation of past clips of Grandma Duggar. Maybe they will include something like this in a fall episode.

    5. If Jessa had time to walk the steps at "the Big House" and TLC had time to get there, Jessa & Ben had plenty of time to get the birthing center at the hospital with their back-up midwife and wouldn't have needed to call the Paramedics for an emergency transport. IRRESPONSIBLE.

      Delete
    6. 1:24, how could they film the birth months before it happened? I’m confused by your response. Obviously they had to get to Jessa & Ben’s house to film the birth as it was happening, not months in advance.

Not everyone wants to watch the Duggar’s who do have very strong beliefs that not everyone agrees with. I find the families on these other two shows just as entertaining & both are Christian families who love their children & the fathers work hard to provide for their families, to me they are just the kind of shows that are wholesome entertainment & show a good example of family life.

  25. No thanks. Won’t be watching this one. Every birth, excluding Jinger and Kendra, is fraught with emergency situations. It’s irresponsible and for ratings.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Lots of money to be made for “a tense 30 minutes” requiring paramedics...again.

      Delete
    2. Yes, how silly of them to choose to have emergency situations just so their ratings will increase.

      Delete
    3. Both Jessa's birth with Henry and Kendra's birth with Garrett had no complication or emergency that we know of.

Jill's birth with Israel, Joy's birth with Gideon, and Jinger's birth with Felicity all had some complications - failure to progress, breech, and induction plus its usual accompanying failure to progress - but no emergency. Nothing was especially time-sensitive.

Only Jessa's birth with Spurgeon and (possibly) Jill's birth with Samuel have included emergency situations.

Without knowing any details, my guess about why the paramedics were called for Jessa's birth with Ivy is that maybe, since she went into labor in an unexpected location, her midwives weren't there. Given her hemorrhage after birth with Spurgeon, she'd probably want someone to have a Pitocin shot on hand as a precaution,
to give her if it started happening again. In the absence of her midwives, the paramedics would be the quickest way to bring Pitocin to have on hand. Just my speculation.

      Delete
    4. get ready for November.

      Delete
    5. I don't think the emergencies are for ratings. Maybe the widwives or pre-naatal care is optimistically skewed toward home birth.

      Delete
    6. Julia K- I would separate Jinger's labor from Jill and Joy's birth experiences. Jinger chose induction due to her concerns about her family's history of large babies and knew the potential complications that came with induction. Her medical team, including a qualified midwife, worked with her and made interventions as necessary to avoid having a c-section. While there was a stall in labor, an epidural allowed her relax enough to deliver vaginally which was her ultimate goal. There was no drama or undue strain on Jinger and Felicity's position and vitals were monitored throughout.

      Delete
    7. Jessa's water broke in the morning while at home and didn't start contractions until the afternoon. Ivy was born at 5:57pm. If there was a fear about hemorrhaging post-birth it would be the most prudent to go to the hospital rather than rely on emergency personnel. Using the paramedics as your birth team is a selfish waste of government resources.

      Delete
    8. She ended up needing paramedics again this time, just like she did when Spurgeon was born. Her bleeding wouldn't stop. She had to be transported from home to the hospital.

      Delete
    9. @8:57 totally agree. One of these days the emergency crews aren't going to make it on time. With their known history of this happening the emergency crews should start charging them. They also should get paid for being on the show. smh

      Delete
    10. In my city, your insurance gets billed for the squad. If the insurance doesn't pay or fully cover it, you're going to be asked to. Having been emergency transported from my doctor's office with a broken neck vertebrae from a fall, paramedics earn every dollar they get. At my hospital, the squad can't just drop you off at the ER, they have to wait until you're actually seen by the doctor or Physician's Assistant-which ties up the squad from responding to another call. We're blessed to have a number of area squads in nearby towns and they'll cover each other's calls when it gets too busy. Having friend and relatives working on the squads, I'm sure the squads in the Duggars' town are less than thrilled with having to be continually called out on their "emergency births".

    11. I have a question do these ladies get prenatal care? Have they ever been to a obgyn? I'm sorry I also don't get why anyone would not want a hospital delivery. Yes no delivery is 100% guarenteed safe for mom and baby, but if something goes wrong you have qualified drs, midwives and nurses right there. Plus as an added bonus afterwards you're treated like a queen.

      Delete
    12. 11:20, I can guarantee you, they are being charged by the ambulance company. An ambulance transport is NOT cheap!

    1. Spurgeon's birth went fine except for the hemorrhage afterward that a better supplied midwife should be able to stop in the future.

Henry's birth went great without complications.

Low-risk births are safer at home than in the hospital. I think her track record is low-risk.

      Delete
    2. Julia. I know you're a strong advocate for home births. However, with the Duggar girls' medical history they are poor candidates for home birth. They use CPM's who are NOT nurses and therefore aren't ready to deal with complications. Hence the calls to 9-1-1.

    2. EMT may as well park in the Duggars' driveway or rent one of their storage buildings. Maybe the girls can go to the firehouse to deliver next time, save everyone trouble.

      Delete
    3. Home births are typically attended by medical professionals. It sounds like hers was successful.

      Delete
    4. A successful home birth is healthy mom, healthy baby. Jessa had to call paramedics for care after two of her three births. I wouldn't consider going to the hospital for emergency treatment successful a home birth. The mother and baby lose out on those first precious hours to bond. Jessa is apparently not an ideal candidate for home birth since she is prone to postpartum hemorrhaging that is beyond her attending midwives' ability to stop.

    5. My daughter had a hospital birth, 3 years ago, no problems, no C-section, normal stay and when she was discharged she was handed a bill for $22,000.00. The woman asked her how much would she be paying right then.

      Delete
    6. @Joy H. Nobody pays a full hospital bill on discharge. That's ridiculous. You let it process through insurance first, and the bills come later for whatever insurance doesn't cover, usually no more than 20%. Didn't your daughter have insurance? Everyone is supposed to - it's a federal mandate. My friend had a major organ transplant and wasn't even billed $22K because of insurance. She paid nothing on leaving the hospital, and last I heard, owes $2K now that insurance has processed everything. If you're trying to say that home births are better for everyone because they save you $22K, I don't believe it.

      Delete
    7. Joy. Yes hospitals DO charge for their services. If your daughter had health insurance, it should have covered most of the costs. Why would your daughter be surprised by receiving a bill from the hospital?

      Delete
    8. @7:40 pm. Thats why having health insurance would worked quite well in this situation. I had five hospital births and had severe complications with some and with health insurance paid no where near 22,000 a birth.

    2. The rest of the family was in Tennessee attending Carlin (Bates) Stewart's wedding when Jessa's water broke. The only way they would have been able to attend any part of the birth is if John David flew them back to Arkansas. Or Nathan Bates, who is also a pilot, may have flown them home. I'm sure family members will still be in the birth episode, whether in the 30 minute special or a longer episode in the upcoming season, talking about how it was a surprise and they were racing to get home.

    2. 2:09 - Jessa and Ben could have still gone to a birthing center or hospital. A midwife with hospital privileges, like Jessa said she had, would have others within her practice to attend to expectant mothers while away. An early arrival shouldn't have thwarted proper medical care.

  39. I am surprised at the number of comments condemning Jessa and Ben for their homebirths. Homebirth, when attended by a qualified midwife, is perfectly safe for a low risk birth. Yes, Jessa had problems with excessive bleeding when her oldest son was born. Not sure what the problem was with baby Ivy. But the midwives handled that emergency appropriately and quickly got Jessa the help she needed. Jessa appears to be a very intelligent woman and I have no doubt she and Ben prayed over her giving birth at home. Hospital births also have quite a bit of risk involved, but I rarely hear people talk about that. It is their decision to make and as long as they have a qualified midwife, they are certainly not being irresponsible.

    ReplyDelete

    1. It is irresponsible if you know you have a history of post-birth hemorrhage to continue to home birth. It puts the mother's life at risk because the hemorrhage could be catastrophic and medical professionals are not on hand to treat it.
Jill, Joy, and Jessa have each had to be transported to the hospital related to home birth. There is a question of whether the Duggar women are using qualified midwives as 4/5 of the home births have needed hospital intervention (5/6 if Jill attempted a home birth with Samuel).

    1. Gale- We do have freedom of speech and Derick was free to make his comments about Jazz. However, he has stated publicly that it was his decision to quit the show- he was not fired and this has been covered extensively on this blog. This does not mean that any employer doesn't have the right to fire someone for making controversial comments, or that a person may be charged with libel or slander if there's grounds for it. Our freedom of speech extends only so far in that the government cannot restrict us. Obviously, your beliefs are dictated by your religion, which is fine. There are many people who do not share them, specifically regarding transgender individuals and are not the least offended by Jazz's show- myself included.

    2. Derick has repeatedly stated that TLC didn't fire him for his statements on Jazz. He insists that the Dillards chose to stop filming. Why don't you believe Derick? If he is a good Christian man, why don't you take him at his word that it was his decision to leave TLC?
Similarly, why do you want the Duggars to continue their show on TLC if you think that the network promotes trash? Wouldn't it be better for them to cut ties and have a new program on a good Christian network? That way they are on a network surrounded by other shows that share their values.

      Delete
    3. TLC has for a long time now aired reality shows giving a look into people who live differently; that is why they gave the Duggars a show.

    4. Gale, have you ever watched Jazz's show? I personally enjoy the show. Derick is entitled to his opinion and religious beliefs just like you, but, that's where it ends. It's all about numbers for TV shows. I used to enjoy watching the Duggars when it was 19 kids, but stopped watching after it became Counting on. Young adults getting married then popping out kid after kid is not what I enjoy watching. But, again that's my opinion and worth about as much as yours. I do share your opinion tho about 90 Days.
