Jinger Goes Blonde

Over the years, the Duggar ladies have enjoyed experimenting with different hairstyles, but this might just be the first time any of them have made a "big" change. To celebrate the start of summer, Jinger decided to turn her brunette locks blonde with a balayage treatment. (For those who aren't familiar with balayge, it's a coloring technique in which the stylist uses a more "freehand" application technique.) Below are before and after snapshots.

  1. I hope she has fun with it - and then goes back to darker hair! I don't think it goes with her skin tone at all.

    1. Me either ! Maybe if it was like a black mix with red and then the streaks she had when she first had her baby was gorgeous on her but not all blonde

    2. I don't care for it either but in the end, it's her head

    3. I think it looks cute. But I am a bit bias as I am very tan from my Italian and African heritage but I have red hair from my mom.

  2. Oh please no, that is not “jinger” ! She looks so much better with her brunette hair. To me it doesn’t seem right to have the eyebrows starkly different than the hair. She needs to dye her eyebrows then too, lol.

    2. That’s what I thought the color is gorgeous I’m loving the layers but not on her .maybe on joy or even Jill maybe on Abbie but not jinger ❤️

    3. I am a natural blonde and my hair is very light. However I have dark eyebrows. Blondes don’t always have light brows. 🤷‍♀️

    4. I agree. Her eyebrows are a bit dark. At her age I experimented a lot; so have fun w/it...it’s only hair.

    1. She never said she wasn’t happy with how God made her. Good Grief. I love the blonde. Perfect for LA. Maybe Jeremy prefers a Marilyn over a Jackie.

    2. Then people shouldn't cut or style their hair, pierce their ears, and wear make up. High heels are out since they change height. Everyday people alter the way they look. Should we criticize them for changing what God made?

    3. She is a young woman. Let her have some fun.

    4. Hair treatments aren't new to the Duggars. The older girls permed their hair during their teen years and have experimented with color. Joy, Jinger, and Jessa have had highlights while Jana has highlighted and dyed her hair darker throughout the years. It doesn't mean they aren't happy with themselves.

    5. Do you ever wear make up or shave your legs or cut your hair? Pluck your eyebrows? Paint your nails or pierce your ears?

      Delete
    6. Do you wear make up? Do you curl straight hair or straighten curly hair? Do you pluck your eyebrows? If you say yes to any of those you are changing what god gave you. Fully enjoy what god gave you with makeup, hair styles, hair color and clothing.

      Delete
    7. Why assume she’s not happy? Did you ever have braces? Wear lipstick or mascara? Do you know Esther had a whole year of beauty treatment just to meet the King? Most of us do enhancements.

      Delete
    8. God made me stinky and hairy. So for the benefit of my husband and the public I shower and shave my legs everyday.

      Delete
    9. Hmmmm... if you’re happy with everything about yourself, great. Personally, I don’t care what others do.

      Delete
    10. @3:11 Braces have to do with correcting the bite, and have less to do with appearance. Esther? Really?

Not everyone does enhancements so NO, most of us do not. I do not wear any make-up, do not color my hair... no enhancements. Most women I know, with intellectually-challenging lives do not. They do not have the time nor interest. Their only "enhancements" is a healthy fit body.

Make-up was created to hide the damage from diseases, such as small pox. Perfume was to mask the smell of unwashed bodies. So, please, do not use biblical stories.

I do not care of Jinger wears make-up or colors her hair. It is her hair and her body. There are many other more important issues in the world to worry about.

    11. She's young let her enjoy herself. Adding on to what the other people said do you shave your legs and underarms? Do you have pierced ears? Jinger's young let her have fun. She's finally getting to experiment with what other females get to do as teenagers. I'm happy for her.

    12. God made us creative. It’s fun for some to play with hair, makeup, and clothes. The Lord looks at the heart and wants us to understand that our beauty comes from Him. He is beautiful and we are made in His image. As long as we know this truth then the outside can be a creative canvas!

      Delete
    13. @8:56 God made us creative? It's fun to play with hair, makeup, and clothes? Then why is there so much scorn in this world for non-conformists, transgenders, cross-dressers, etc.? At what point does that "fun" become an object of scorn? Why isn't it all seen as part of God-given creativity, as you call it, and freedom of expression of true self?

      Delete
    14. 9:10. I am an intellectually minded, college educated, married to an astrophysicist woman of God. And,I love enhancements. As far as Esther goes, and every other woman in the Bible we can glean from their actions. Taking a year of beauty treatments to be presented to the King is an important lesson. We should take time to look nice for our King, our Husbands. Of course how that looks is individual to each woman, but it has nothing to do with intellect.

      Delete
    15. This is 3:11 responding to 9:10. I wore braces for my appearance. I wear make-up for my appearance.I color my hair for my appearance. I do plastic surgery for my appearance. I run 50 miles a week for my appearance. Why? Because my husband of nearly 30 years appreciates it. He compliments me all the time about how well I take care of my appearance. However, none of this has anything to do with my intelligence. I’m quite intelligent. In fact intelligent enough to know God created men to be visual and an intelligent wife will understand this.

      Delete
    16. @8:03- I hope your husband is as dilligent about looking good for you as you are for him! Your statement makes it sound as though women aren't visual and it's all on them to look good for their men. I'm a woman and a wife. I'm just as visual as any guy is!

      Delete
    17. Yes 11:46. He’s as attentive to staying fit for me as I am for him. That doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy coffee and donuts on occasion! And, our ideas on fitness, aging, attractiveness is just that ours. Everyone defines what works for them. I was just responding to 9:10 that intellect and attractiveness are not compatible.

  4. Aside aside from ditching their perms (which I’m sure was their parents’ idea), I don’t think the Duggar girls have experimented with their hair at all. None of them had colored their hair until now, and none of them have cut it shoulder length like the Bates girls have. So I think that first statement is a bit off

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why would their parents stop them from perming their hair? In the book Michelle talks about it. Jana and Jessa and Jill all curled their hair too. Michelle use to perm her hair. I am not sure if she does now.

      Delete
    2. The older Duggar girls have experimented with color for several years. Jinger has highlighted hair in the above photo with Michelle. Jana's hair fluctuates the most frequently between dirty blond/light brown with highlights to a rich brunette. Jessa and Joy have also highlighted their hair.

  5. I have worked in a hair salon all my life and I have to say that is nice coloring. I am really shocked that Jinger would choose this color but it does bring out her tan. Brunettes going blonde is a brave choice. I seen lots of women decide at the very last minute that they don't want to do it.

    6. I completely agree! Love blonde hair and this color is beautiful. Her stylist did an excellent job. I'm just not a fan of this color on Jinger. I think it's going to be too much upkeep and she'll end up going dark again. With her long hair, all those color processes will not grow out and be cut off anytime soon.

  16. She looks ridiculous as a blonde. Her natural skin tone, eye color, and brow color absolutely do not go with that hair color. Did she think about what it's going to take to ever let that grow out or go back to brunette?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think she looks great!!! As a person that colors her hair if she wants to go back to her natural color she'll just get it colored again. It's just dyed not bleach. Looks like she's finally getting freedom let her have fun.

      Delete
    2. I don't like it either. Did she think God made a mistake making her a brunette?

      Delete
    3. No need to be mean 2:12. Jinger is a beautiful blonde. And, all it takes it a color change to go back is she wants.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous @ 9:41 Bleach is even worse than color for hair! At this point, a lot of her hair has 3 color processes on it: highlights from last summer, brown color over the highlights and now this blonde.

My hair is nowhere near the length of Jinger's and I know how much it takes to grow color out. Average hair growth is 1/2 inch per month. Even if her hair grows twice as fast, that's only a foot of new hair since her highlights last year.

      Delete
    5. It's her hair. She's having fun. It's not sinfun.

      Delete
    6. @10:08 let her have fun it has nothing to do with God and his making a mistake. It has to do with being young we all go thru something like that at her age. Are your ears pierced? Do you wear makeup? It's all just part of being young. Hair does grow back.

    1. I see a LOT of upkeep on this blonde hair for Jinger. "Roots" are so tacky. lol

      Delete
    2. What will "hot sun" and pool chlorine or salt water do to that dye?

      Delete
    3. Anon 9.43. I think anyone that has very dark hair & goes blond has to commit to root touch ups every 6 weeks, otherwise your right it looks very tacky with roots showing. If Jinger can’t be bothered with the upkeep I’m sure she will go back to her natural colour. I noticed a previous commenter saying as her eyebrows are so dark she should dye them too, I really hope she doesn’t, a friend of mine years ago with similar colouring to Jinger, dyed both her hair & eyebrows & the brows just looked ridiculous.

      Delete
    4. I agree with you roots are tacky. But, some people have the blond at the bottom then the roots. They have it done that way. But, it's just hair. Would love to see her get a new hair style tho. Long is always in style and it looks great on her, but maybe something with layers.

  23. It's none of our business what a person decides to do with their hair, but it's important, if you want to look optimal to get a color analysis done to make sure the new color matches the undertones of the skin. Fortunately, an adjustment is easily made if the color is off. I think many people who go blond could use this helpful information. It just needs to be the right tone. If Jinger is seeking feedback on her new style, since she is in the public eye a lot, a color analysis might be something she might enjoy seeking out. I don't do color analysis, so not self-promoting here. It's just a fascinating science ,to me and helps women to not feel like they have to change their hair color often to get the right color for the skin tone.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Agree. I'm in a class that does color analysis for clothes and hair. Makes a huge difference if the color is correct for skin tone.

  24. As much as I want to be supportive of other women, I think this look doesn't work for her at all. It's too light and does not look natural at all. She has a very dark skin tone and people with dark skin tones don't look good with blond hair. She could have gone for a lighter change. :)

I bet living in L.A. spurred the impulse to become blonde, but seeing how dark her natural hair is, I guess she'll get annoyed by the roots when her hair starts to grow back... 3. Coloring your hair is fine when you're pregnant. Working in a salon, many women get color procedures done while they're pregnant.

      Delete
    4. 12:05 - It's not fine if you're pregnant. It's to much chemicals for the baby. People do have it done anyway, but it's not good. That's why you have to watch what kind of acne creams and washes you use or lotions with certain ingredients. That stuff can absorb in to your skin and get to the baby.

    5. When I was pregnant, now this was over 35 years ago, my dr told me not to color my hair. So I quit for the time. Why even risk possibly harming the baby.

  48. Blonde or brunette, Jinger looks great! However I wonder why this change to want to conform to society’s standards? In her book with her sisters they addressed their modesty standards and she and a few sisters has gone completely against it now. The sisters claim thier modesty standards were thier own choice and not thier parents and stated multiple times that they were not worldly. ( they were in the world, not of the world) They chose modesty and to dress as a way to draw to thier countenance and not physical attributes. So now, why the tight jeans and tops, nose piercings, shorts and skin tight “maternity” tops( when expecting?) Granted none of these things are horrible and if styles and opinion change that’s fine. But there’s no mention of Why her standards have changed - so when you state you are doing things a certain way yet doing another that, is being a complete and total hypocrite.

    1. That book was written in another time and place in their lives. The girls have matured and changed as people do in life. I don't think we should keep throwing that up to them. Let's leave the book in the past where it belongs and see them as adults who have made difference choices.

    2. Oh I wish people would stop the “they said they were modest, now they’re not” or “they wrote a book”. The Duggar girls were teenagers still living with their ultra conservative parents when the book was written, they are now adults and married. When you get married your spouse may have somewhat different standards so the two of you find your own. It’s not like any of the Duggar girls have fallen off the deep end, blonde hair is far from sinful. They don’t need to make a formal statement explaining, it’s common sense. They may have made some changes, but their belief in and love for Christ remains the same.

      Delete
    3. I've thought that too over the years and love the changes they have done as a way of expressing themselves as they got older but would love if they did a like of question and answer session and if someone asked why they chose to do that like wear jeans, dye hair, no piercings etc. It would be nice to hear their opinions now as young women, compared to years ago when they wrote their book and see the contrast in answers, would be great to see.

But however they look great whatever they do and love seeing them evolve over the years.

      Delete
    4. Before the book was written Michelle was still dying her hair and the girls did perms and wearing pants (Joy-Anna especially). You can be modest with skinny jeans and piercings.

    7. It's Jinger's hair, and as long as she and Jeremy like it, it's none of my business. I am a little curious what prompted this kind of drastic change though. Brunette to Ashy blonde is a pretty big swing. I'm wondering who she's admiring/looking up to/wishing she looked like that has blonde hair. Maybe she's tired of looking like all of her sisters. Maybe she's tired of being part of matching set. Honestly, I would have expected her to express herself with a new haircut, as opposed to a completely different color. It does seem a little odd that it's sort of taboo among the girls in the family not to cut your hair, but it's ok to dye it on the other end of the spectrum-it seems like that would be kind of attention seeking. Jinger's brunette hair better suited her coloring-I have to wonder at all the people who believe they're "supporting" her by raving about how beautiful she looks as a blonde. I get wanting to support someone, not wanting to hurt anyone's feeling's, practicing kindness, and all the "being positive/positivity" stuff, but "An honest answer is better than a kiss...". This blonde shade is just "off" for her coloring and looks weirdly unnatural for such a beautiful young lady.

    8. My goodness, it called growing, evolving, changing, ect.Especially when you leave home and marry, then your new family unit has their own set of standards that most likely aren't exactly like their parents. Are you the same person when you lived with your parents...I think not.Why is this so hard for some fans to comprehend, I will never know🤔🤨

  50. Her dark hair is so beautiful. Very few brunettes look good as blondes, in my opinion. I understand wanting some variety, but I don't think the blonde on her looks good.

  51. Beautiful!
It's awesome to see Jinger experiment with her hair....after all, hair does grow back.

  52. I absolutely love Jinger’s blonde hair. She looks stunning. How perfect for California. How did Jeremy like it?

    1. It's her body! Why should her husband's opinion matter?

    2. They are one flesh, so they belong to each other. That's why. Her husband's opinion should always matter to her, because they're married. I would think it was awful if my husband told me, "why should your opinion matter?".

    3. @11:48- I've been married for thirty years and I've never thought that my husband and I "belonged" to each other. We are each individuals with ideas and opinions that may or may not agree. We try to compromise as much as possible, but neither one of us tells the other what they should do.

    4. 11:53, I have been married for 17 years and neither of us tells the other what they should do either. But we still belong to each other, and we take each other's opinions into consideration. Our opinions matter to each other. That is not the same thing as telling the other person what to do. I'm sorry you don't see the difference.

    5. My husband passed away, but never did I think that we "belonged" to each other. He had his opinions and I had mine. We ran ideas and opinions by each other, but at the end of the day he did what he wanted and I did what I wanted. Unless it involved over a certain amount of money.

    6. Nice thing about hair is it grows out

  53. I think that Jinger looks younger and "fresher" with her natural shiny hair. The blonde will require a lot of attention and upkeep to continue to look allright. But if Jeremy likes it, that's all that really matters.

    1. I think that if Jinger likes it, thats what matters. Its Jingers hair....

    2. No, all that matters is that Jinger likes it, since it is HER hair, not jeremy’s.

    3. 7:25- I am pretty sure that Jinger liked the idea of turning blonde, that's why she did it. So Jeremy is next in line. Stop knitpicking, you people.

  55. I am surprised she chose a color so bold compared to her natural tone. I agree with others she should’ve at least lightened her eyebrows a little. I can’t imagine how much upkeep and money it will be to maintain this color. I hope this was Jinger’s decision, not Jeremy’s.

  56. The more I look at her new hair color, the more it's growing on me. At first earlier today, I didn't like it, but now perhaps I'm over the shock, and it actually looks pretty good.

  57. Good grief. She colored her hair, like about a gazillion other people do. The way some are carrying on, it’s like she went with hot pink and purple stripes or something.

  58. Sorry, it looks unnatural & is not a good skin-tone match. Bronze highlights with a lighter shade of brunette (from her true color) would be the way to go. Beautiful Godly woman, inside & out. Proverbs 31 💖

    1. I agree..but no such thing as Godly woman. Woman of God is the correct way to say it

    2. Godly women shouldn't change their hair color? That's pretty judgmental IMO. Besides that look and Michelle who's been dying her hair for YEARS. Should we sit in judgment on her??

  65. Love her hair but prefer her dark hair way hetter

  66. She looks great, and it looks like the colorist did a skillfull job. I hope she has fun experimenting, and that she ignores negative comments.

  67. She is a beautiful young woman but this platinum of a color is too harsh for her skin tone. Warm blonde highlights in her natural hair color would have been better IMHO. This blonde color looks too Barbie doll and fake. It will blend right in to Southern California.it looks odd with her dark eyebrows too.i do like the cut, style, and length, just not the color on her.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Oh no Jinger! That color does not look good on you. You look prettier as a brunette.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I absolutely LOVE Jinger's hair!! Blonde looks great on her.

  70. The trouble with drastically changing your hair color is maintenance. Subtle highlights or lowlights grow out without much trouble. Going from dark brown to light blonde is not going to hold out well in the coming weeks and months. I hope Jinger and her stylist (Jeremy) like the stark roots look.

  71. Michelle has been coloring her hair to cover the gray for years. Is that sinful? Why would going blonde be sinful?

Back then, I bleach blonde my hair, then I dyed it from Kool-Aid packages, and yes, I had crazy colours!!!! U, guys are lucky, now there's loads of colours, and real dye too!!!!! Go for it Jinger, I like how it's now just ! colour more natural!!!
