Jana's Garden 2019

For the past two years, we have enjoyed showing you photos of Jana Duggar's incredible garden. (Click here to view snapshots from 2017 and here to see her 2018 garden.) Jana says that her garden is one of her happy places. Are there any other master gardeners out there who agree?

  1. Wow no wonder Jana sees this as her special place, it’s so beautiful. It must give her such a sense of peace & serenity sitting in her garden. Well done Jana, wish you would come & sort out my garden, it’s huge, but a total mess. Love seeing jana’s garden & just everything that this wonderful woman gets up to daily.

  2. Wow! The garden looks amazing. I love the tables and chairs idea. What a nice place to enjoy a nice healthy meal with lots of veggies!

  3. Her garden is so pretty. I'm glad she enjoys it so much. I can relate to her love of gardening. It provides a fun activity and learning experience for the younger kids, too. It's also great that they are growing their own fresh vegetables- healthy for your body and your finances!

  7. What's with all the plant markers? Can't she remember what she planted or what each type of plant looks like?

    1. I garden and I certainly can't.

    2. You know what a garden looks like when it's just been planted, right? And that it takes a while before you can tell what plant is what? So if you have planted a lot of things it's helpful to know what is where? Markers aren't uncommon.

    3. I’m pretty sure Jana can remember what she planted, but her younger siblings who may help pick the vegetables might not. Besides, her vegetable signs will be able to be reused many years...not so with paper or stick labels.

    4. You don’t garden do you? LOL!

    5. hahaha! I think it is so she can give the littles directions on where to weed, water and harvest. Besides it looks cool.

    6. You've never heard of asthetics?

    7. Oh brother! Many people use garden markers, they’re attractive and functional. What a petty thing to complain about.

    8. It’s probably for the little kids, does it bother you that much?

    9. Many people mark the different sections of their gardens. It is not uncommon.

    10. Anon 12.51. My dad grew plants, flowers & herbs & veg & he always put little sticks in the area where they were growing, or the plant pot so he knew what they were. When your growing lots of things it’s very easy to forget what is growing where. All professional gardeners do that, so I think Jana has the right idea actually.

    11. Had to find something to complain about today. I like the markers it adds charm and character. When i plant mine i just stick the little plastic label tab that comes in the tray in the ground. I know what a cucumber plant looks like but do it anyway.

    12. I use them when I plant different varieties of the same veggie. This year I have San marzano, early girls, and cherry tomatoes

      Delete
    13. I don't see vegetable variety tags, which would make sense, only the decorative generic vegetable signs, which don't make much sense. It's like having a sign in the kitchen saying "Kitchen." Pretty obvious, without the sign.

    14. 3:58 "early girls" ? Is that autocorrect or the real name of a plant ? (really curious)
6:54 you can't tell everything that's going one from one picture. For all we know, there are tons of other labels in that garden, for Jana to take good care of her plants. But I think the wooden signs are for her youngest siblings, so they don't mess it up when they go to get some vegetables :)

    15. I use a lot of decorative labels in my garden, and I've been gardening since I was 4 years old. We now subsist on our vegetables and fruit and buy very little, so I know my vegetables and fruit on sight, but the labels are a FUN addition.

  8. They live a half mile from a huge landfill. I’m not sure a garden is a good idea,

    1. ??? I'm not sure why you think it's a "problem". Most landfills don't take hazardous materials that would poison the area near them.

      Delete
    2. It's a landfill, not an EPA-designated toxic waste dump.

    3. That’s a better reason to have a garden. Give back to Mother Earth!

    4. @1:35 It's not rude. Is that all you have to add? I thought it was an interesting question and I had forgotten about them living near that dump. Three people above were able to make informative responses.

Why are people here so quick to jump on someone and holler about what they think is rudeness? Why don't they stop and think about the question, and how maybe others want to know this information? I have yet to read a rude question on this blog. I have, however, read many rude responses about perceived rudeness!

    5. Thank you 4:43 for your response!

    6. Some people love the Duggars so much that any reasonable criticism is taken as a blow to their heart.

    7. She should have it tested for heavy metals, especially lead

      Delete
    8. They should have any well on their property tested for all sorts of contaminants, not necessarily the garden. Vegetables don't usually absorb heavy metal contaminants into their tissues. There can be heavy metals in the soil that could contaminate the surfaces of the vegetables, but washing everything before eating should remove that. I'd test the well first, the soil second, and follow good food safety practices in the kitchen.

    9. @10:39 Most landfills don't, except people put all sorts of things into plastic bags and mix them in with their regular household garbage, just to get rid of them. Not everyone makes special trips with their hazardous waste to the collection points on the designated days.

    10. I didn't know they lived that close to a landfill. That must stink around there in the Summer.

    11. Who knows what the Duggars have done or not ? Maybe they ran all the tests for their water, vegetables, etc, and it all came out clean !

  20. Beautiful garden! Love it! I love to garden as well. I just love to get in there, dig weeds, water, plant and be outside. My garden is by no means anything fancy. I like to steal ideas from creative people like Jana! The vegetables at the end of the season are well worth it!! God is good! I love how the whole life is in that tiny
seed, that grows plants and bears fruit. Total miracle

  25. Beautiful just beautiful. If you plant lots of lilac, lavender and rosemary you will not believe the aroma, plus the benefits Rosemary does for a healthy garden. Some say if you plant Rosemary bushes on all four corners it will cut down on insects and attract the right kind of atmosphere for a healthy garden. That's what they do in Italy. Can you imagine if this was there when all the kids were little, you would have saved alot on those big grocery bills.๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿงก

  27. Jana is an absolute Renaissance woman, she can plant a garden like this, plan a wedding, then go jump on a backhoe and dig. The guy that gets her hand, is still being prepped by God!
