Michael Duggar, Meredith Duggar, Marcus Duggar, Mackynzie Duggar
The Duggars are big fans of Silver Dollar City--located near Branson, Missouri, only two hours from their home in Arkansas. During Christmas break, they made a trip there with most of the clan, as well as some extended family.
Above is a photo of Josh and Anna Duggar's four oldest kids on one of the children's rides. We know there will be comments about the girls' jeans, so we want to add a note from Anna. She says, "From the time Mackynzie has been a baby, I have always allowed our girls to wear jeans instead of leggings in the winter--the long coat is covering [Mackynzie's] dress."
Photo courtesy Josh and Anna Duggar/duggarfamily.com
Good for Anna for allowing the girls to keep warm in the winter. Wearing dresses while On amusement park rides is silly and could be more “immodest” than wearing pants.
ReplyDeleteThey are still wearing dresses. The jeans are underneath their dresses for more warmth than wearing leggings.
DeleteThey have dresses over their jeans!
DeleteIn high school (add 8 years or so if they were to go to a REAL school), we had uniforms where the girls wore kilts OR pants. If we wore a KILT during the cold weather, we were also allowed to wear JEANS underneath to school; we didn't wear the jeans during school because it was warm at school.
DeleteJeans are more modest than just wearing a dress. Wearing a just a dress on rides is not modest. Nothing wrong with little girls wearing jeans.
ReplyDeleteThey're wearing dresses over their jeans.
DeleteI think you mean four oldest not five oldest in the ride - Mason is a bit too young still.
ReplyDeleteDidn't even notice the jeans until I read the comment. If Anna likes them to wear jeans under a dress or tunic top that's great. Anna always dresses her children beautifully.
Thank you for the positivity anon @ 5:34
DeleteToo bad Anna and Ellie had to put a note about the jeans so people wouldn't judge. It's sad that every move the duggars make seems to be judged! Prayers for their family.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I feel like a lot of the people who read this blog post mean comments.... But not all the people!
DeleteI noticed that too. There is a negative vibe on this blog sometimes, that’s for sure.
DeleteThere is often negativity towards the Duggars on this site. It's sad. I took a break from reading any comments for a while. Just got tired of the attacks and nit picking. This picture is great. the kids are adorable.
DeleteI think some people come here just to see what they can pick on the Duggars for. They must be really bored? Or trolls.
DeleteSince most girls wear jeans, I'm glad Josh and Anna have lightened up and let their girls dress like other kids. I think the rest of the Duggar offspring will do the same.
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteJosh and Anna have always let the girls wear jeans under their dresses in the winter, they didn’t just now “lighten up”. It literally says that in the description.
DeleteIf you read the note from Anna, she's always done this in the winter. The girls are simply replacing the leggings they typically wear under dresses with jeans. They still have dresses on.
Deletea more "normal" mom.
ReplyDelete???????????????????????????????? how are the others not 'normal'
DeleteGood to see Josh & Anna's kids
ReplyDeleteAnna has always been a great mom.
ReplyDeleteomg these kids are too cute! i think marcus & meridith look so much like the keller side of the family, while mackynzie reminds me of anna's mom. michael is a mini josh for sure! he looks so much like josh at that age
ReplyDeleteI agree! I think Meredith looks like Priscilla, Anna's sister, but also resembles her aunt Jordyn. They are adorable children!
DeleteOh My goodness, Josh and Anna have such beautiful children!!!
ReplyDeleteGod bless this family.
ReplyDeleteThat is dumb people have to make a statement before posting a picture. Cute photo though
ReplyDeleteI think it was an attempt to short circuit any criticism of Anna for letting the girls wear jeans. Unfortunately there are some people who like to complain about what the Duggars wear.
DeletePeople are gonna judge no matter what
DeleteI think it was very sweet that Anna posted that statement. I thought it showed a thoughtful consideration to people who might wonder if her views and standards of dress had changed. Anna has always had a heart of compassion and the Duggar s are blessed and fortunate to have her in the family for sure.
DeleteWhy is a dress necessary OVER jeans? Why not a proper top instead? The girls are already wearing jeans.....OWN IT.
ReplyDeleteBecause their personal choice as parents is for girls to wear dresses. The younger girls will often wear leggings under their skirts and dresses. In this instance, Anna chose to have them wear jeans instead of leggings.
DeleteWell there ya go got that mean remark in
Deletewhat is the point of wearing a skirt and a dress. nothing wrong with wearing jeans as long as they dress modest.
ReplyDeleteI think a pull over sweater would be warmer than a dress. The jeans are fine IMO.
DeleteTime 7:40AM Sat 12/29/18
ReplyDeleteBefore I make this comment I want to wish everybody a happy new year. Good on Anna for letting her girls wear jeans instead of leggings in the winner.
Thank you Needy! Happy new year to you as well!
DeleteThank you Neddy. Happy New Year Blessings to you too!
DeleteThanks to Neddy who always is considerate and takes the time to reach out with best wishes for all of us. Neddy, have a great 2019!!!
DeleteHappy New Year Neddy!!!
DeleteNeddy's a smart cookie -- good comment. Happy New Year to you, Neddy, and to all. God's richest blessings to all in 2019.
DeleteIts good to see the kids having fun. I'm glad to see they are warm. Hopefully they'll be on season 9 of Counting On. We love to go to Kings Island in Cincinnati. We each have our favorite rides. Great picture thanks for sharing. Natasha B.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure when there will be a new season of Counting On. TLC hasn't made any announcement about it.
Delete11:07, they normally don’t announce it right away, so it’s kind of hard to tell whether it’ll be back or not.
DeleteI don't wish to sound negative, but TLC doesn't seem ready to launch another season any time soon. They didn't even follow up on John and Abbie's wedding by covering their honeymoon.
DeleteHow do you know they didn't cover the honeymoon ?
DeleteAnon 10:32. TLC hasn't shown anything about John and Abbie's honeymoon to date. That's not to say they won't at some future date.
DeleteIt was nice to hear from Anna. I agree Anna, we need to keep our children warm in the wintertime. Thank you for sharing the picture... Jane
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that jeans were much warmer than leggings. Good to learn something new.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t know that either! I would’ve thought loose jeans would be a lot colder than tight to your skin leggings! I personally put on leggings and that’s what I get by on all winter long. And yep I wear dresses over them. I stay warm. My girls prefer leggings too.
DeleteJeans are definitely warmer as the material is thicker than leggings I find. I prefer them to leggings on the winter although leggings are more comfy especially for curling up on the sofa ;)
DeleteLiving in a cold climate, I can tell you that jeans are not warm in the winter. You need to wear leggings made with cotton under the jeans.
DeleteArkansas isn’t considered a cold climate so I’m sure the jeans were warm enough.
DeleteNot a criticism here: Honestly, if I were Anna, I'd skip the jeans (unless they were flannel-lined like Lands End) and opt for fleece-lined leggins for her little girls. They're much warmer than standard jeans for any outside winter activity like an amusement park and they layer well under snow pants for sledding or ice skating.
DeleteThey do make thick cold weather leggings folks.
DeleteAnna doesn't owe the public any explanation on anything.
ReplyDeleteI agree. She should be able to dress herself and her children as she pleases.
DeleteIt's pretty sad that people have to post against negativity. This family is an awesome family and have wonderful family and have great values. As long as you are raising your children right and not harming them in any way, you should never have to justify your choices as a parent. You can tell by the smiles on these babies faces they are well taken care of and loved. Keep doing what you are doing and don't worry about negative people. Love you Anna, Josh and the rest of the beautiful Duggar family!
ReplyDeleteagree!☺
DeleteThat's the problem though, Unknown. Some people don't agree that their values have been "family" ones. You can't deny they've had some pretty significant problems that most families don't have. As far as "harming" the children, unfortunately that happened too. Some people see a restrictive upbringing and being harmful, too. Smiles don't tell the whole story. Josh smiled even when he was doing wrong. They all smiled. I think a lot of the comments posted on this blog that get perceived as negativity are actually made out of deep concern for the innocent children.
DeleteI completely agree with you.
DeleteThis family has had its problems. We can hope Josh and Anna have worked through them. However smiles don't tell us about how a family functions and if they are truly happy. I wish them well.
DeleteI agree that smiling children are not necessarily an indicator of loved and happy children. Not implying that the Duggar kids have been unhappy, but part of their religious upbringing has been to put on a happy countenance and never show anything else.
DeleteUnknown- I don't think they're doing their kids any favors by posting their photos on social medial and sharing it with the world. As you said, the negativity is there. It's a parent's responsibility to protect their children from it and guard their privacy as much as possible.
DeleteEllie, do you know if there will be a new season of counting on ? I know that you can't give us a date (if you know it) but do you at least know if they are filming or if it stopped ?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, TLC has not yet made a decision on the return date. When they do, we will let our readers know right away.
DeleteHappy New Year,
Lily and Ellie
thanks for sharing your family with all of us. keep posting, just ignore all negatively comments from people. Love your family, only God can judge us no one else. if we follow Jesus and live for him and follow what the bible said then we are fine no matter what other people think or said. our life depends on the Lord who loves us and that is what it counts. God bless the Duggar family.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful children. God Bless.
ReplyDeleteJoan,Marion and Marilyn
do people have nothing else to do than worry about what kids are wearing. these are their children and they can dress how they please.
ReplyDeletehow about being kind and live and let live...
4:05- Agreed! I’d add this- People should leave others alone when it comes to their personal religious beliefs or spirituality. Live and let live instead of trying to win converts to any particular faith.
DeleteOh my goodness! Anna can decide whatever she chooses as best attire for her children. Or, as her children become older; maybe they will be allowed to decide for themselves. It’s none of our concern!
ReplyDeleteI agree. But there are always critics. That's the problem with being in the public eye.
DeleteWe all have to follow rules of our home while growing up. The Duggars have done the same, but the married Duggars are showing they have their own beliefs and dress.
ReplyDeleteThe girls said over and over that those weren't the rules of the home, those are the rules they chose to follow themselves. It that was true, then it's even stranger that they changed their minds now.
DeleteYes the girls have said in their book and the TV show interviews that they “choose” to wear skirts. Then don’t mention anything when they start wearing pants.
Deletewhy bother wearing a dress with jeans? just wear the jeans with sweater call it a day. we r stricter religion than bates/duggars we WEAR PANTS TOO! mary keim mennonite. hambden twp ohio
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Mary. Non Mennonite
DeleteI'm guessing you're not a plain/old order Mennonite? I am and we definitely don't wear pants, so I'm just curious. The Lord be with you!
DeleteTee
Mary, you always sign that you’re a Mennonite, as if that makes your opinion mean more. Honey, please. Any Mennonite that’s allowed by the leadership to wear pants isn’t part of a strict church at ALL. And any Mennonite that’s allowed by the church to be online spewing nasty comments meant to belittle others’ choices is not part of a strict church at all. I know. I was Nationwide Mennonite.
DeleteAnd you ask why wear the dress at all? It’s because they choose to wear something long enough to drape certain parts of their bodies instead of show the shape of those parts. It’s a personal choice, that to be quite blunt, I don’t know why on earth you feel the need to nitpick.
The problem many people like the Duggars have with jeans is that they can tend show off a woman's form. By wearing a dress over the jeans, you negate that issue. A sweater wouldn't really do anything.
DeleteNone of the Mennonite women in my area ever wear pants. They wear "prairie" style dresses in solid colors (usually light blue or grey), sheer caps and cross trainer shoes. I don't know what sort of "Mennonite" group you belong to but it's quite different from the ones where I live.
DeleteI’m curious as to why the shape of a woman’s form is evil but seeing the shape of a man’s form is not. I’ve seen some pretty tight pants on men, including some of the Duggars, and it leaves very little to the imagination. Tell me, why is that ok?
Delete@6:58 We are talking about little girls here. They do not have a woman's body.
DeleteJeans show off a woman's form? That depends how tight the jeans are. There are baggy jeans. And by form, do you mean that the woman has legs? A skirt will show off a woman's hips. Some of the A-line skirts the Duggars girls have worn in the best "hug" the hips and show the "form" too.
I'd like to see the Duggar men wear kilts. I wonder what they think of that traditional menswear.
Delete2:31pm a woman's shape is not evil but can be temptatous to a man since men are more likely to lust with their eyes at women than females (But yes females can lust too, maybe that's why the men don't wear shorts and swim in jeans??). Therefore, Goddards bizarre teachings the Duggars have followed is for the women to remove that temptation by covering themselves and to keep themselves from leading a male on. Hardly applies to young girls
Deleteunder 10yrs so don't see problem of them wearing just pants. It seems though they like to teach the girls how to dress from v young.
Hi Mary Keim...There is many sects of mennonites, from the most liberal (not very well looked upon) and very worldly (you wouldn’t know them from John Doe on the street) to the very strict and old order. (Old order as in no electricity and have horse and buggy’s). You must be in a very liberal church as mennonites did not start out like that or being dressed like the rest of the world. I know, because I am one! We wear head coverings and dresses. No jeans. But leggings under our dresses in the winter. My husband grew up old order-just like the Amish-but came to my church before we got married. Yes we have the “luxeries” of life-vehicles, electricity, smartphones etc. God has called Christians (in most mennonites view) to be set apart and look different than the world. So we can be labeled as one of God’s children. So to most of us mennonite circles it’s a mockery of our faith so have some get so liberal that they aren’t anything different than the world and yet claim they are mennonites. It’s like taking Gods name in vain. So please, it doesn’t help to proclaim the “mennonite” part for your advantage. Thankyou.
DeleteAs an elementary school age girl, I lived in New York. Girls were not allowed to wear pants to public school back then. I certainly remember how cold it was going to school in the winter with a dress on. I wore leotards and boots. The cold wind swept up the back of my dress under my coat any way. No way would any one think I was a boy or that I dressed 'like a boy' wearing GIRLS' pants. Silly, legalistic rules. Use the common sense that God gave you, girl.
ReplyDeleteJeans worn modestly are perfectly fine! The reason so many people comment on what they wear is because the Duggars made such an issue out of it on the original show, whether intentionally or unintentionally I don't know, but they talked about it constantly. The married kids could end the debate by simply stating they only dressed that way at home or, for the ones who wrote about it in their book, that their beliefs have changed on that topic.
ReplyDeleteI think the beliefs in the book were simply the beliefs their parents had instilled in the girls. Obviously they have changed over the years and perhaps a new book should be written by the young women talking about how they've changed with marriage and children and forging their own path through life.
DeleteAnon 1:32 I think you hit the nail on the head with your response. I think there is some resentment towards the Duggar s for their callous way that they handled the change in their way of dress. Some people who bought the book that the older girls wrote actually believed what the girls said, that it was their belief and not anything that was forced on them. Then about 4 years later we see them with tight jeans, nose rings etc. and people are left to wonder what happened. If you are making money off the public Then out of respect they should at least be open about what has happened. Without us,there would be no them. They live off of the public and so when asked questions about what has happened, they should at least respond instead of this "we don't owe you anything" attitude.
DeleteThat's true anon 12:26. People do wonder about the changes in this family. Christians need to be careful if they are in the public eye about saying one thing and doing another. A little humility and gratitude goes a long way instead of an entitlement attitude. Pride cometh before a fall
Deleteanonymous december 30th 6:36am i am sorry you seem offended that i put mary keim mennonite . @ least it identifies who I am as a Godly woman i feel.my journey is different then yours . its obviously i am not part of a Conservative mennonite churh. BUT AM Mennonite. others in our Church do wear pants. also dresses so its each is own God Loves all pants/dresses. Maybe not old mennonite. will always sign that way. your nasty Honey was not necessary either. ihope you feel better now. nodody is nitpicking either all comments are view before published. i hope you feel better . May you have a Happy and Blessed New Year fullof PEACE and Love . hope answers your question also Tee mary keim mennonite .anothing nasty spewd form any of my comments either. or ever
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a spiritual journey. If yours has led you to call yourself a Mennonite" that's fine. I don't think anyone was offended by it, just puzzled as to why you would call yourself that when your views are so at odds with the majority of Mennonites.
DeleteI'm sure this is a great place to go for family fun, but we are a family of modest means and after looking at the admission prices ($65 for adults, $54 for children 4 to 11) we decided to go elsewhere that wasn't so expensive for family fun. Perhaps the Duggars get group rates and it's not quite so pricey for a day of family fun.
ReplyDeleteYikes I had no idea that the park was that expensive. They go there a lot too. See this is the problem that I have with the way the Duggars are now. They say they buy clothes at second hand stores and act like they are frugal when the truth is that they have plenty of money to spend on luxury and do spend big money all the time, so why pretend that they are the frugal Duggar s anymore. They should be honest about things.
DeleteAnon 12:45 I'm all for the Duggars enjoying their prosperity, but I do wish they'd stop trying to maintain the fiction that they're a simple, ordinary family that is "frugal".
DeleteSilver Dollar City sells annual passes that offer unlimited visits for a great savings.
DeletePeople, they make frugal choices to save money so that they can afford the extras. They carry no debt and have been working multiple streams of income for decades. Sure, the TV show has probably helped out a lot financially, but you can apply the same principles of frugal choices and see how it benefits you in the long run.
DeleteIsn't that the point of being frugal? To save money in other areas, so you can stretch your income and apply it where it matters for you most? I struggle with frugality, but still I don't focus my income on cable, fast food, fast fashion, cigarettes/alcohol, convenience food, Target runs, etc. and people are always "amazed" by what we can afford. Frivolous vs. frugality.
DeleteIt also seems people are confusing broke or cheap with frugal--there's a difference. I've beer heard a Duggar describe themselves as broke, and from what I gather, many wealthy people are actually frugal.
This park is affliliated with a religious organization and the Duggars have been long-time supporters. Perhaps the family gets discounts for their frequent endorsements.
DeleteAnon 7:49. The Duggars don't say they're "broke". However, in my experience many wealthy people are not frugal, they're cheapskates and will find ways to chisel and get other people to pay for their lives. I'm not saying the Duggars always do this, but they do seem to be able to get "gifted" with a LOT of things the rest of us hay for ourselves.
DeleteChecking Silver Dollar City’s website today, they were offering last chance season passes for $19.00!!!! That is a bargain/ couldn’t believe it!! Other theme parks offer specials often. Of course Disney prices are highest and often are giving specials for CA or FL residents only.
ReplyDeleteDisney has a LOT more to offer than this small amusement park so of course they charge more.
DeleteI LOVE U ANNA!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnon at 10:44 jimbob wore a kilt in an episode when they visited Ireland or Scotland. I don't recall which one. I do recall it had the haggis food served at the festival they were visiting.
ReplyDelete
