Garrett's Birth Special TONIGHT

A few of you asked that we remind you about the Counting On mini special featuring Garrett Duggar's birth, which airs late tonight (Friday) at 10:30pm ET and early tomorrow at 1:30am ET (summary below). The 20-minute special is also available on the TLC website (links can be found in last Friday's post).

In the first glimpse, Joseph and Kendra Duggar are ready to welcome their baby. With 10 days to go until her due date, Kendra goes into labor and heads to the hospital. Only a few hours later, she gives birth to their baby boy, Garrett David Duggar.

  1. Thanks for reminding us. I'm looking forward to seeing this precious couple become a family. Garrett is adorable.

  2. Why are they doing this now? They haven't even shown Gideon's birth, and he's older. This show has gone out of control.

    1. Maybe out of order...not out of control!

    2. This is a mini special. They showed a mini special for Gideon as well. They’ll air a full 1 hr episode for each of the births when the season starts

    3. TLC showed Gideon's birth in a half an hour special shortly after he was born. The birth special is on the network's website, but you may need to sign in with your cable or dish provider to see it.

    4. I agree seems boring ...knowing everything before the show...
And not everyone enjoys watching the birth shows...
Th Bates do it a little better...😬

    5. Didn't they leave off last season when Joy & Austin weren't even in the house yet, and Gideon hadn't been born? I'm talking the regular season, not these "specials" they toss in out of order to confuse everyone.

    6. They need to go to UP like the Bates. Their show is much more organized and well put together. Guess they do not want to leave the big money tlc offers. Seems like they would want a network more christian like

  3. Thanks for the reminder. I would have missed it. Beautiful episode.

  4. So if Kendra has a breathing/ not breathing/passing out problem, has she been under the care of a knowledgeable and professional midwife or doctor while pregnant?

    1. You obviously didn’t watch the episode. She had a planned hospital birth with an obgyn.

    2. There was a male doctor's name and voice on the episode, but no explanation of whether he was hospital staff who happened to be on duty that day, or her doctor the whole time.

    3. She experiences those symptoms just when she is extreme pain. She was monitored and well cared for in the hospital.

    4. She was at the hospital and they also mentioned a doctor at one point.

    5. You ask this EVERY Duggar birth! Whether or not she did is not any of our business.

    6. 5:39 - The Duggars televise their births making it public business. They've shown other private aspects of their lives, including medical procedures, wondering whether they had pre-natal care isn't intrusive within this context.
EVERY Duggar birth should be monitored by medical professionals to ensure the health of mother and baby. It's basic healthcare. We've watched the Duggar girls grow up and care about their health and the health of their children. We also get to "know" the daughter-in-laws through their courtships and marriages to the Duggar boys. I personally don't care if they choose a doctor or properly trained midwife, I just hope they have received pre-natal care and are attended by a professional that can safely deliver the baby.

    7. In the first webclip, Kendra and her mother talked about possibly going to a doctor's office in the morning. They wound up not doing that but going to the ER, because Kendra's labor started to progress at 2AM or so. I don't know if that doctor was the same one who was there at the birth.

While phrased in the form of a question, I get the impression some people are assuming the worst of the Duggars by this demand "prove you had prenatal care by showing it on TV, or I'll assume you didn't!" And to those who counter the Duggars are asking to be judged by "putting themselves out there"; I've never seen any other celebrity, Reality TV or not, being asked this question.

    8. There haven't been any other celebrity families that have had 3 family members unexpectedly transported to the hospital during labor or after giving birth like the Duggar women. Other reality shows feature prenatal visits when they follow pregnancies. We saw Michelle's doctor visits during 19 kids and counting. We even saw Michelle and Jim Bob visit a doctor to determine why they hadn't conceived after Jubilee.
What makes the lack of showing pre-natal care so strange is that they show Jill, Derick, and Israel getting check ups on Counting On. We know Jill had a scare with a neck artery and Derick with gagging, but prenatal care is not shown? It leads to questions. They aren't required to show us anything about their lives, but it sticks out when they film intimate parts of their lives like the actual births.

  5. Joe and Kendra are such a sweet couple, since I already saw the birth special, it was so smart and good that Kendra had a hospital birth. She did great with the support of hospital staff, her mother, sister and Joe was amazing. All the best to them and their precious baby boy.
