Josiah and Lauren Are Married!

Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson are married
Another Duggar wedding is in the bag. Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson are officially husband and wife. The couple was married today at John Brown University's Cathedral of the Ozarks, the same location where Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo had their special day in November 2016.

Lauren found her gown at The White Dress Boutique and the dresses worn by her eight bridesmaids were sewn by Jana Duggar and Anna Duggar.

PEOPLE Magazine has the exclusive story, as well as a picture. (Click here to be redirected to their website.)

    7. Anon at 10:46PM: Actually John is NOT engaged, he just announced his courtship. Even if it's a short one like Josiah's, I wouldn't expect an engagement announcement for another 4-6 weeks. And then 3-4 months until any wedding. There could be a late fall/early winter wedding this year, but if the courtship is longer, there may be no wedding until early 2019. And unlike Josiah and Lauren, JD and Abbie have only known each other 2 months. John may be eager to marry as he has been a bachelor so long, but we don't know if Abbie would be.

    8. 7 married now (Josh, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joy, Joseph and Josiah). John started courtship now, so he probably will get married soon too. All older kids, except for Jana, are married or courting. Next in line are twins who are now 19. Then goes Jason (18 now). James turns 17 in July, I think he is too young for now.
I wish on of them married Kendras sister Lauren, she is so cute!

    1. There are only so many churches in that area of Arkansas that can hold the amount of guests a Duggar wedding would have. There are 19 children, you can't expect all of them to get married in different churches.

      Delete
    2. Yep, and what’s wrong with the same venue anyway? It’s an entirely different couple. I don’t think the venue matters much at all in the long term aspect of marriage!

      Delete
    3. LOL Sarah! And if they DID do that I'm sure people would be critiquing that too and saying the Duggars are flaunting their good fortune and out of touch with normal people.

Really, of all the nitpicks I've seen on this site, "reusing" a church building for a wedding is really reaching. In many families who don't do destination weddings and don't invite hundreds of guests, most or even all of the children get married either at the church they grew up in, or at the spouse's church if they didn't meet at church.

      Delete
    4. Obviously, and yes, cant expect it, but takes away from it in my opinion. But, its theirs that matter.

      Delete
    5. Interesting comment - how many siblings have gotten married in the same church as their other siblings? Probably lots!

      Delete
    6. Just stating my opinion and personally I think it would make it less special, but Im far from being a Duggar.

      Delete
    7. I’m so confused, how does it make it less special? If they were in the same place, and she wore Jingers dress and used some of the decorations from Jingers wedding and had the same type of cake, then yeah maybe, but it’s all new decorations and it probably looked completely different.

      Delete
    8. 8:16 is clearly a troll.

      Delete
    9. I agree with anon 2:03. Of all criticisms, reusing the church is the craziest criticism to date.

      Delete
    10. I think the original Anonymous @8:16 above was more expressing surprise that none of the Duggar couples, to date, have chosen an outdoor chapel or the chapel at the University of Arkansas (since they're avid sports fans of the Razorbacks), or the chapel of any IBLP Family Conference Center. Most couples have a decided to preference for the venue and it's never always the home church of the In-Laws.

      Delete
    11. If I remember, Jessa had originally wanted to get married at the beautiful little Thorncrown Chapel she and Ben got engaged in, but because of the size of their families (and her family's 'need' to have 1000 guests) they couldn't. Still, I'm surprised that none of the kids have had an outdoor wedding at the Dugger or in-laws farms or wherever, so far. Jill and Jessa each had outdoor wedding receptions, but no outdoor Dugger weddings thus far...lol.

    1. Would you like for someone to tell you that you shouldn't have children because your parents decided to have nineteen of them??

Odds are, yes, they will have children.. like every other normal American newly wed.

      Delete
    2. Anon at 954PM: So Brandon and Michael (Bates) Keillen are not "normal American newlyweds"? I am sure they'd LOVE to have 19 kids but they may not even have one biological child. Even if they eventually do, they'll be way out of the newlywed period. Or what about people who marry past child-bearing age?

I know you are trying to stick up for Josiah and Lauren but even for them there is no guarantee they will have children right away. Please think about how infertile people could take your comments.

      Delete
    3. Most normal American newlyweds wait a few years into marriage to have a kid. If Josiah and Lauren want to have a baby right off the bat that is their right but it is definitely not the norm.

    3. A little gauche to bring up an ex at a wedding. But I think the OP wanted to rebut some (not all) courtship proponents who hold up as an ideal to marry the first person you romantic feelings for, and think those who don't won't be fully committed when they marry because they'd have "given away pieces of the heart" to prior loves.

But Josiah seems just fine now, happily married to Lauren, and Marjorie has gone on to publish another book and go to college, that she may not have if she married Josiah. Seems they just weren't a match. I also get the sense that Josiah popped the courtship question as soon as he realized he saw Marjorie as more than a friend, and the Duggars regretted making that relationship public too early. So now we have shorter courtships and longer pre-courtship "getting to know you" periods. Though JD and Abbie may have reversed that trend now, they only met 2 months before they announced the courtship. So the may want to court longer. Or not. Guess we'll see.

      Delete
    4. Strangest comment, indeed. I didn’t even think of Marjorie, only the beautiful and joyous newlyweds.

      Delete
    5. Strangest comment, for sure!!! Good grief! Why would someone feel compelled to bring up a past break-up? It does happen and isn’t the end of the world. Move on! I didn’t even think of Marjorie when this wedding was announced. I only thought of the beautiful, happy couple, Josiah and Lauren.

      Delete
    6. I agree with 803!

      Delete
    7. I think it is interesting and nice to note Marjories feelings in this too. Its not like their relationship was forever ago. She and Si are better off, but her being taken into account and considered is a nice gesture.

      Delete
    8. Thank you, Anon 8:03. I wrote the 2, 1 by mistake, “strangest comment” posts. I did think it was strange to bring up Marjorie, but I was looking at it from my point of view. Growing up, there were lots of break-ups. I never considered, or had heard of, the “romantic first love” point of view. When you explained what the OP might be basing their comment on, I looked at it from a different point of view and I understand it better. I’m not sure I agree with the idea of marrying the first romantic love interest you have, but I do understand why the OP brought up Marjorie, thanks to your explanation. I just jumped to the conclusion that the OP was fixated on Marjorie. Anyway, thanks!

  15. why is the wedding date always such a big surprise? It always seems this family is trying to sell more stories (pregnancy announcements, birth stories and pictures as well as endless courtships, engagements and weddings) to People magazine and others who will pay them for it. All the announcements seem to be perfectly timed to bring about the most attention and money. Why not just announce the wedding date and be done with it instead of being so secretive?
On another note, she made a beautiful bride.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anon @9:12 Its all timed perfectly for the show to boost ratings, and make sure TLC keeps it on air. This wedding date was not that secret, as a number of people had let the cat out of the bag. Lauren did look beautiful and the one picrure I have seen it was quite a form fitting dress for a duggar bride, just wished she had done something with her hair but maybe she likes the 'bed head' look, each to their own.

      Delete
    2. Letting People magazine have first dibs at photos + getting paid for it = smart choice. Why not!? Get it while it's hot folks!

      Delete
    3. They need to keep dates secret because if news got out, hundreds of strangers and fans would crash the wedding.

      Delete
    4. You don’t announce the date when you don’t want unwanted people showing up. They can’t invite everyone they know and all of the people who know about them. Some people would show up just to be nosy or cause disruptions. It is better if they keep the information to those who need to know.

      Delete
    5. They have to keep it secret to prevent thousands of fans from overtaking their day

      Delete
    6. I'm quite certain that they are required to keep it private so that People Magazine can have the exclusive (they are under contract with them). I would imagine it also cuts down considerably on wedding crashers, curious onlookers, hecklers and a host of other logistical problems as well.

      Delete
    7. I love the Duggars, as do many others, but would “thousands of fans” really crash the wedding? I can’t imagine doing anything that tacky. If people are true fans, wouldn’t they respect the privacy and dignity of the couple and not make it a sideshow.

      Delete
    8. It’s not really fans, it’s the paparazzi. There are paparazzi pics of Jill’s, Jessa’s and Jinger’s wedding. At Joy’s wedding, they put up a fake date (Oct 28) on the registry and as a result paparazzi didn’t show up.

      Delete
    9. I don't think it's the fans the Duggars worry about. I think it's the haters. Considering all the hate they get online, I wouldn't be surprised if they've gotten actual threats to harm them in Real Life.

Consider that we DID know the wedding dates for Jill and Jessa in advance, but we haven't (at least not officially, Jinger's wedding date was leaked) for all weddings that took place after certain scandals came to light. I doubt that's coincidence.

And this isn't just a Duggar thing. Most celebs do NOT give out the exact date, time and place for a wedding or other big event in advance, they publicize them either during the event or just after. There are so many nuts out there, I don't blame them at all for that.

      Delete
    10. You can give out the date without giving out the location.

      Delete
    11. Anon 2:39 on my goodness I don't think there would be thousands of fans coming to crash any wedding. Lol. Most people have jobs and lives of their own and have much better things to do then chase people they see on tv. Lol. Popping in on a blog now and then is about as much energy as we are willing to exert.

      Delete
    12. Every wedding so far, some excited guest has let the cat out of the bag ahead of time with travel plans or actual wedding talk. One even posted the invitation! It hasn't stopped or ruined any wedding. I don't understand why there's this big game of secrecy, when it never works. I doubt there are threats, but I'm sure TLC provides security for the filming, for guest crowd control if nothing else.

      Delete
    13. Well said Anon 7:17! Remember, some of the Bates opened a graduation party to fans. I don’t remember hoards of fans or reporters showing up.

  16. What happened to Miss Renee? They had a wedding without her??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Lauren chose a simple, classy dress, which fits her very well. Maybe she found Renee's style to be too fancy for her. I am a tad surprised the bridesmaids' dresses were hand-sewn. Something that reminds me more of how the Duggars were 5-6 years ago, than now. Maybe the Swansons insisted on paying for the wedding as is traditional, and that resulted in a slightly lower budget than the last three?

If John and Abbie marry, it will be interesting to see if Renee makes a comeback or if she will also choose someone else to design her dress.

      Delete
    2. There are other equally as nice bridal boutiques.

      Delete
    3. Wonder who the wedding planner was. Those seem to be changing, too.

      Delete
    4. Not a Duggar bride, so maybe she wanted to have her dress selection be more private, or maybe her parents wanted something less expensive, who knows?

      Delete
    5. Brides pick where they get their dresses. Maybe she couldn’t afford one of Renee’s dresses or didn’t have time to go to Kentucky. She may have known the owner of the store where she purchased her dress. There are all kinds of possibilities.

      Delete
    6. I'm guessing they stick with tradition and Lauren's parents paid for her dress like Anna' did for hers. It seems that way with bridesmaids dresses being made, like Anna & sisters made her bridesmaid dresses.
Anna nor Lauren's parents can afford to be so extravagant I guess so no Miss Renee I guess??!

      Delete
    7. Perhaps the Swanson's didn't want to pay for a designer dress when they could buy one elsewhere at a more reasonable price.

      Delete
    8. But Renee also designed Kendra's dress and she wasn't a Duggar. I doubt the Caldwells could afford to pay full price for Kendra's dress. Though it's certainly possible Renee gave them a discount considering the free publicity she'd get out of it.

In any case, I think the dress Lauren wound up in suited her much better than the kind of very fancy dress Renee likes to design.

      Delete
    9. I’m thinking it was a preference of the bride. Quite honestly if the dress shopping is covered on counting on, it’s time for something new. That goes for the friend of Michelle’s who does flowers and decor the weddings were sort of looking all alike in many ways...

    5. Having different colored dresses does seem to be more popular lately. I like it! It certainly wasn’t a “thing” 45 years ago when I had my three bridesmaids dressed in the same dress but each in a different color. I wanted three colors for my wedding but couldn’t find dresses or fabric that incorporated the three colors so I settled for a separate color for each and tied it all together with the flowers they carried.

Maybe they even *gasp* enjoy sewing; my sister does, she also crochets, and she has donated a lot of items to various family members, happily.

    3. You are assuming they had no choice in the matter. Most likely they were excited and volunteered and enjoyed being involved this way

    7. I agree they could use dresses again with so many weddings. Or buy new

      Delete
    8. Eight dresses to sew, that's a lot of work. Jana might have the time but Anna has 5 kids and a husband to look after. Seems you could buy dresses and save everyone the work. Jana always seems to have to sew dresses, whether it's beforehand or last minute. Even if you like to sew, it's no fun doing the same thing over and over, with the clock ticking. I hope when she gets married, everyone does a massive amount of work for her! They owe her big time.

      Delete
    9. I'm pretty sure they volunteered. After all that's the Duggar way of doing things and what a nice gift to the couple.

      Delete
    10. Why would you say 'had to'? Lots of women enjoy sewing and would be delighted to see the wedding party in their handiwork!

      Delete
    11. Maybe they like to sew! Jana seems like the kind of person who thrives on projects, and Anna seems like the kind of person who's happy to pitch in and help wherever she can.

      Delete
    12. I am sure they didn’t have to sew them. They chose to do so. They were probably excited to take part in the wedding.

      Delete
    13. I'm glad that Jana had Anna as a sewing buddy. I remember when Jana sewed Jill's bridesmaids dresses with no help and her sisters and Michelle were hanging out and enjoying themselves around her. She even asked why no one was helping her. It was really sad.

      Delete
    14. Don't feel sorry for Jana she seems to ENJOY being the family caretaker. (Martyr complex).

      Delete
    15. 8:45 am - I think that it's less about being a so-called Martyr and more about actually implementing JOY (Jesus Others Yourself). The only time she seemed particularly put upon was during Jill's wedding when she was tasked with sewing the bridesmaids dresses and bridal party ties. No one stepped in to help her despite her being overwhelmed. Anna even commented on it and said she wished she had been their to help when she found out how much Jana had to do alone.
Jana actually puts others before herself or it may be it's difficult for her to say no. Other people seem to take advantage of her kindness.

      Delete
    16. Jana was stressing about getting that lace back on Kendra's dress before the ceremony, too. Another "poor Jana" sewing moment. She should have been enjoying the time with the guests, not slaving away on a dress repair. Where was the dressmaker herself then, anyway? She was the one responsible for the loose lace.

      Delete
    17. So if you enjoy taking care of your family, you have a "martyr complex"?!?! What ever happened to just being selfless and helpful? Pretty pathetic that people today criticize the fact that someone enjoys doing for others. Shows what a selfish world we live in. So sad.

      Delete
    18. When has Jana ever looked happy doing for others? She gets real quiet when filmed doing some sort of work for someone. Clams right up. The tense body language and strained facial expressions are still there, though.

      Delete
    19. She's looked happy planning Joy and the twins' graduation party as well as putting together the couple's gift for Joy and Austin. Also, the various home decorating and improvements she's been involved in.
She has never sulked, sighed, or looked resentful while helping others. She gets stuff done and finishes what she starts.

But speaking of Jinger, I'm a tad surprised it went ahead when Jinger is so close to having her baby. The engagement already stretched out for almost 4 months, I think one of the longest for a Duggar, so what's another 2 weeks?

They didn't have to be expensive ones and no one would have had to do any tedious work...Jana always the do it all for everyone. Let this woman enjoy her LIFE...

    1. If someone actually LIKES to sew (and I know women who do), then making a dress is far from "tedious work". I myself have very basic sewing skills but when I was a teen I liked sewing doll's clothes for younger kids I knew. No one forced me to do it.

I think it's unfair to constantly portray "poor Jana" as the family drudge who is has no free will and just follows her parents' orders. It fails to acknowledge that she might actually LIKE what she's doing. I doubt her parents ordered her to create a garden, for example, as the Duggars are not exactly vegetarians.

And what about Anna who also helped sew dresses, the Duggar parents have no authority over her, if anything they should be treating her like a queen for staying loyal to the family, not ordering her around; and I really doubt they did that.

    2. Maybe she enjoys sewing! She certainly seems to be happy taking on all sorts of projects.

    3. As someone who loves to sew, I would saying that my favorite things to sew would be wedding/bridesmaid/flower girl dresses, along with First Communion dresses and baptismal gowns. That's the really fun stuff! I think maybe all the criticizers aren't sewers, or maybe their lives are too busy, and it would seem like a burden. Probably Anna and Jana were honored to be able to create some lovely dresses as a show of love and support to their family. Likely that was their wedding gift to the couple.

  30. I'd like to see those bridesmaids dresses, that Jana and Anna made. I don't understand why not buy them? Jessa was buying hers for like $50 each. Unless it was something very special they wanted to incorporate in a dress.

    1. But Jessa's dresses weren't typical bridesmaid dresses, more like Sunday or summer dresses. Maybe Lauren wanted a particular type of dress that would be less expensive to make than to buy.

  31. Duggars now have only like 10 kids at home, 4 younger girls, then boys who are still at home, and Jana (John I think is living somewhere else already).

  32. Beautiful! Now John will probably have a Fall wedding.
I wonder if Jinger was able to come for the wedding.

    1. She would be very close to delivery for her to be given the “all clear” for flying.

    2. Not if you drove or if your brother flew you. The risk she did take, though, is delivering early in AR.

    3. If Jinger did come it makes me wonder if she’s planing on staying in Arkansas until she has the baby.

    4. They can't stay in Arkansas. How can a full-time pastor take that many weeks off from work?

    5. There are pictures of her with jessas inlaws and also with krista from that weekend. I'm pretty sure she was there.

    5. "Hunger" is how some devices auto-correct the word "Jinger." H is next to J and U is next to I, so the device thinks your fingers slipped. No biggie. We know who you mean. It's not done on purpose.

    1. Yes. But she can go to John David's wedding so it'll be OK.

    2. That happens in large families....can’t accommodate everyone.....good news is with today’s technology Jinger was probably there vis face time.

    3. I agree, considering the number of married fertile Duggars these days, if a couple getting married wanted to plan around every possible pregnancy, setting a date would be very difficult.

It seems they waited for Kendra to give birth, though. Their engagement was 17 weeks, the longest one so far in this generation - there is a post on this blog documenting exactly how long other Duggars were engaged for.

But this I understand as Joe and Si are very close and he was probably a groomsman, perhaps even the best man. However there was no reason to make Jinger part of the wedding party. She may know Lauren but I doubt they are close, since Jinger's been living in a different state for the last 2 years.

  38. I wonder if Jinger was able to come to her brother's wedding being in her late 3rd trimester.
Maybe Johna David went to get hem by plane. I remeber last year Anna flying super late into her pregnancy. Or maybe Jinger will give birth in Arkansas. Can't wait to have more details.

    3. I bet you are right! I didn’t think of that. I bet Jinger did come back for the wedding and will have the baby in Arkansas.

    4. Why would Jinger give birth in Arkansas when she now lives in Laredo? The baby isn't due for three more weeks and she has had all of her prenatal care there. Jinger loves her family and it close to them, but the Vuolos have built a life in Texas.

  39. Dear Josiah and Lauren, My parents and I like the photo. We can"t wait to watch the wedding on TV. Have a great honeymoon. I have ideas for childrens names Josiah Matthew Jr. and Jennifer Lauren. The gender reveal parties are fun. But we hope you two enjoy life a while before children. Congratulations. Natasha B.

  40. lauren's dress reminds me of anna's, simple but beautiful. didnt anna & jana make the bridesmaids dresses for anna's wedding too?
although i only had 3 attendants, we also hand made their dresses. since we paid for them ourselves it was actually more cost effective for us

  41. Has anyone else reached the saturation point with these continual weddings and courtships and babies? I can hardly remember who's married to whom now, when they married, or what their kids' names are. I think the fact that the show is about a year behind doesn't help matters. It used to be easy to remember, but then there was an avalanche of life-changing events and it snowballed beyond recall.

    1. Nope, I can easily remember all the kids and spouses names

    2. I can't. If you gave me 10 seconds to name which of the J boys is married other than Josh, I'd fail that quiz. Nor could I name the order in which the marriages happened.
