ReplyDeleteI think it's more that JD is the kind of man who likes WOMEN not girls. He has always seemed mature for his age and more independent than his brothers; he already has his own house bought and paid for, for example.
DeleteSo probably, when he was younger, girls he met around his age didn't impress him because they were just too immature for him.
So I'm not surprised he not only waited until he was 28 but fell for a 26 year old woman with a career, not an 18 year old girl just graduated from homeschooling.
I think at his age he would pursue women and not girls.

ReplyDeleteThey're not dating, they're courting. Since (if info from Anon at 308PM is accurate) Abbie is also from an IBLP family I'm sure they'll be chaperoned. Yes, they are much older than most of the Duggar courtships we've seen before, but that doesn't make a difference. Jeremy was also 28 when he met Jinger and they followed the Duggar rules re chaperoning. (Though he did put his arm around her a lot, which I don't recall other Duggar suitors daring to do before engagement).

DeleteI recall that comment, but it was pretty obviously a JOKE from John David about his then-single status, not meant to be a serious vow to never marry.
DeleteAccusing John David of lying because he told a joke is pretty harsh. He may not even have met Abbie yet when he said that, or maybe he had but didn't think she returned his interest.
Oh well I never expected the response to be 100% positive anyway.
That was the best line! It was less of a fib and more of a way to get around the producer's continual relationship questions. It would be a lie if he was already courting Abbie though.

ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing. This seems like a bit of a new frontier for them. I wonder, though, if she'll move to AR, and then they'll probably have babies right away, too, so the timing of all of it would probably spell the end of her career anyway. It'd be interesting if she decided to go back, though. No shortage of baby sitters around :)

What do you mean ? When does it start ?? It was suppose to be on July 30th
DeleteTLC is showing Garrett's birth special (Joe and Kendra's son) before the official start of the season. It's similar to the one they did for Gideon. My dvr says it's 32 minutes long and going to be shown on July 7th at 7:30pm.

DeleteJohn David is a Arkansas constable, part-time Tontitown Police Officer, pilot, & pilot instructor.
DeleteAll of the above-stated jobs and he owns heavy-equipment and does excavating, etc.
DeletePlease stop calling JD a police officer. He never went to any police academy. He has held an elected position as constable. There's a difference. The brave men & women who go through the rigors of an academy to become police officers deserve to be in a whole other class than that of an elected official.
DeleteThanks Tickie_Ty for the information. I knew about the constable position as there was a 19KAC episode where Jim Bob went on a ride-along in his patrol car. However I did not know he had also been certified as a police officer.
DeleteI doubt JD will move out of Arkansas. Most of the Duggars in long distance relationships had the woman move to where the man was. Though Ben was an exception, he moved to where Jessa was. But JD is much older than Ben and already has a residence fully paid for (forgot if it was a house or condo but it is his own property, not Jim Bob's).
I also know John David's constable position is an elected one, if he was going to move out of Arkansas he'd have to resign that position, unless his term is about to end anyway.
I know some nurses and I also know regulations about nursing vary widely between states, but I'd think an LPN license is likely easier to re-qualify for than an RN license.
John David is a part time volunteer police constable, very different to a qualified LEO.
DeleteSometime ago they were talking about a John David cleaning out some area with his bulldozer, for what a bank was going to give him a house, something like this. I think John is a good catch -- he has an own plane, he flies, own house... Abbie can work part-time.
DeleteDoesn't work? Don't you watch the show? He has been shown doing dirt work for construction sites and I am sure I remember them saying that was his business. He is a pilot and for all we know he makes money on that. I know I read they have more than one plane so I think they may charter. Why can't some people understand that just because they don't work for another company doesn't mean they don't work. They own their own businesses and if I am wrong and he just works for his dads real estate company than that is perfectly fine. Many people across this great country work in family businesses and I can't for the life of me understand why some people want to belittle working in a family business. Jim Bobs business is so successful they hire family friends. I wish I had a business like that to provide jobs for family.

They are both mature and she has a career, a nurse, good for them. It is so nice to see s Duggar boy, or should I say man, with strong morals and values, who waited and found just the right one for him. a true blessing, much happiness to them.

DeleteOut of all the previous courtships I'm most excited for John David. I guess where his was one of the older ones and everyone else was getting married. I didn't want him to be lonely or get depressed about it. So I'm so excited for him. I can't wait to Watch the wedding. I'm glad he found someone.

DeleteJust because someone is unmarried doesn't mean they are automatically lonely or depressed. My great-aunt never married and not because she never had any offers. She was a career woman during a time when it was not a common thing and was one of the happiest people I've ever known. Marriage and children was not something she cared to experience, because of the tough life her own mother had with trying to raise 8 children, back-breaking farmwork, and dealing with a domineering religious kook for a husband. She was perfectly content making her own money, living in her own little house, and doting on her nieces and nephews who would go home before bedtime!

Not only that, but some of having chaperones isn't for the COUPLE, it can bebe f all the naysayers out there who want to suggest all sorts of rumors. Having chaperones *should* (though it doesn't always) dissolve any rumors people may have about their relationship before marriage.

Delete"Only an LPN"? I know a very hard working woman who is "only an LPN" yet one of the smartest, dedicated, compassionate people I know. She has a son who is also interested in a healthcare related field. If this Abbie is anything like that lady, then JD is very blessed. I have nothing against RNs (know some too) but to disparage someone for being "only" an LPN is very ignorant. As if the value of a person depends on a degree or certification.
DeleteThere is no need to put down someone's career. The medical field needs LPNs. Would you like it if someone examined your family members' careers and then belittled them?
DeleteMuch of the front-line work in the medical field is done by nursing aides who have even less training than an LPN. You don't have to spend years in school and go into deep debt to get a more advanced degree in order to make a difference. Of course SOME people are called to be RNs, NPs, MDs etc...but not all.

Or is it just because she is a woman with an education and a career? JB Duggar was a politician and owns rental properties and other businesses....but you believe he puts the Lord first. One might wonder how anyone with 19 children has time to put the Lord first? I believe anyone, in any profession with any number if commitments can still put the Lord first.

Being an LPN is serving others when they are most vulnerable. That is what Christ calls us to do, care for others. Unmarried adult women normally work. It's a good thing to contribute to society. Having a career does not impede one's faith.
DeleteBeing a Christian doesn't mean you have to refrain from education to train to excellence in a specific field so you can be most effective dovetailed with your faith. Loving Jesus first means you're compelled by His love to serve others and go into the world and show His love. Abbie has boldly done that by being a nurse which requires training so she can nurse to excellence - to actually care & save lives. Why is t seen as worldly ?? I think nursing is a wonderful calling and yes God can still be first in your life.

ReplyDeleteI think her career indicates a person who cares and wants to help and serve others in their time of need just like Jesus did when He was on Earth. Why wouldn't God want His people to work and take care of themselves and family? I am glad for both of them and their courtship. Just cause a person works doesn't mean they can't have a relationship with God.

ReplyDeleteI'm very happy for John and Abbie, but at the same time, I can't help but remember how head-over-heels in love I was the first time. Just giddy in love. But it lasted 6 months, lol! Sounds like these two have been together 2 months now. I think all these congratulations are a tad premature.
