Duggar Babies By Weight

Since 2009, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have welcomed 11 grandchildren, and they are looking forward to the due date of their 12th in July. More than half of those babies have been born weighing between 9 lbs, 3 oz and 10 lbs, 3 oz. This topic comes up quite a bit in the comments section, so we have created a list showing each baby's weight and length. The colors indicate individual families.

For those of you who have children, how large were your babies at birth? If you don't have kids, do you know how much you weighed and how long you measured?

Gideon Martyn Forsyth: 10 lbs, 3 oz (22 inches long)
Spurgeon Elliot Seewald: 9 lbs, 11 oz (21.25 inches long)
Israel David Dillard: 9 lbs, 10 oz (23 inches long)
Samuel Scott Dillard: 9 lbs, 10 oz (22 inches long)
Marcus Anthony Duggar: 9 lbs, 3 oz (21 inches long)
Mason Garrett Duggar: 9 lbs, 1 oz (22 inches long)
Henry Wilberforce Seewald: 8 lbs, 11 oz (21.75 inches long)
Michael James Duggar: 8 lbs, 5 oz (21 inches long)
Mackynzie Renee Duggar: 8 lbs (19.5 inches long)
Meredith Grace Duggar: 7 lbs, 14 oz (20.5 inches long)
Garrett David Duggar: 7 lbs, 8 oz (20.5 inches long)

  1. It would also be fun to see a list of all the Duggars by weight and length as well!
Do you have that list already on the blog? Maybe you could post a link to it as well :)

    1. Are you meaning as babies? Or now? I had already pushed the button for the above comment when I then realized you probably meant as babies. Sorry

  2. My firstborn was 6lbs 8oz, 20 inches.
My second was 7lbs 1 oz, 19.3 inches.
    My third was 7lbs 3oz, 19.7 inches.

Or 3.110 kg and 60cm, 3.250 kg and 49 cm and 3.330 kg and 50cm.

I was a preemie myself. Born at 36 weeks, weighing 4lbs 6oz and measuring 18 inches.

    1. My babygirl was 6lbs 5oz (2870 gram) and about 19 inches (48cm) long. Born after 37 weeks and 5 days pregnancy. To be honest, I was very thankfull she didn’t wait a week or 3 longer and gained more weight, she was big enough for delivery imo...

    2. I was a preemie as well, born at 25 weeks. 1lb, 10oz

    3. My boys were all full term, in fact, the two youngest were born 7 and 4 days past due date. Only my first came the day before due date. But giving birth to smaller babies runs in the family. I don't think I'd have much problem delivering heavier babies, as long as the head circumference doesn't go above 36+37 cm.

But I'm glad I didn't end up with a 10 pounder, like Joy Anna. That's a serious sized baby to deliver naturally. But my goodness what a cutie.

    4. yes, only Jessa, Joy's sister delivered a nine pound naturally and that was Spurgeon!

  5. So far it looks like the Duggar daughters have the trend to have the heavier kids (vs the in law Duggar wives).

    3. Everyone is important!

    4. That's a rude thing to say. I am sures that there parents and grandparents think they are all very special! No matter how old. How special your life is should not depend on how old or how cute you are.

      Delete
    5. You clearly don’t have children.. not special anymore?? Really?? Wow. I am one of 12 and I have 4 of my own. I assure you, wach one of of those births were special and celebrated.

    6. WOW! Really? How is it not special to welcome a child into the world and watch that child grow? I hope you are not a parent and never will be.

    7. My friend was one of 9 and sorry, but her parents did not have a lot of time for her. She was one of many kids. And they had seen everthing before. So i understand what you mean.

    8. Yeah, I think its great when any baby is born. I'm about the babies. Although I was very anxious when Princess Charlotte was overdue, lol

      Delete
    9. 2:28, not all parents are like that, every baby is different than the last and I don’t see how someone could continue adding to their family without appreciating and finding time for all their children

      Delete
    10. Maybe the poster meant that it’s not a surprise for there to be new Duggar babies, they seem to start their families right off the bat with no struggles. All babies are special gifts, in many families couples wait sometimes years to have their first or struggle with fertility issues. For these families isn’t as expected as it is for the Duggars.

    1. I was 10lbs even and my mom had me naturally with a mid wife. Pretty sure its rude to say 10lbs is way to big. I`m a very healthy 5'6 120lbs now. Each baby and each birth is different.

      Delete
    2. 10 pounds is not unusual for a baby.

      Delete
    3. My friend has a baby who was 10lbs 8oz. He should have had a C-section but didn't and now has issues with his right arm. As a baby he couldn't move it ad all. Almost a year of intense therapy and he is finally moving it a little more. He needed surgery too.

      Delete
    4. There was a time when babies over 9 pounds indicated gestational diabetes, 10 pounds is at the top of the birth weight expectation and will more likely require c section or other intervention. Yes, many are born without extra help.

    5. It's called genetics, some women are built to bare large babies with no problems. You can't compare a woman's body we are all made different. My Aunt is 4'11" and she has delivered three babies natural all weighing 10.5lbs.and she had no complications...bless her heart❤.😄😇

      Delete
  11. My oldest child weighed 9.5 lbs. My 2nd & 3rd children weighed 7 & 8 lbs respectively, and my twins weighed 7.1 lb & 6.1 lb. The twins were 3 wks early. I did have gestational diabetes with my first child only, but I don't have problems with my sugar now. I thank the Lord for that.

    ReplyDelete
  12. My 3 have been 7lbs 11oz, 8lbs 11oz, and 8lbs 13oz. I think baby's birth weight is mostly determined by genetics, but also by the mother's nutrition during pregnancy and how long the pregnancy goes.

That being said a mother's body will not grow a baby too big fit out, unless gestational diabetes or skeletal abnormalities of the pelvis are involved. Most people I've talked to who have big babies say those births were actually easier than smaller babies. In Jill's case with Israel he was in a bad position that necessitated a c section, not his size. Same with Gideon.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well that's not completely accurate. In many cases, especially when small framed Asian women marry (north)European men, they are likely to deliver by C-section. That's simply because the small framed Asian women have too narrow pelvises to deliver a baby by a much larger and bigger framed north European man.

We see this all the time here.

      Delete
    2. So a womans body can only handle a baby that’s consistent with her race?

      Delete
    3. @C. Frydenlund..not only Asian woman have that problem. As women age their pelvis bones are not as elastic and older mothers tend to have larger babies.

Also, size at birth does not also correlate to adult size. I know several slim adults of below average height who were 9 lbs and over at birth.

      Delete
    4. Anon 7:43 Yes it makes sense when you think about it. Look at the African vs European Americans. The skull is different and body type. African Americans are naturally bigger (muscles for guys) than European whites. That is one reason they are so good at basketball

      Delete
    5. Asian women are smaller framed

  13. I love seeing this post its so cute and interesting. I use to think everyone's firstborn weighs less than their other babies at birth but according to this - that's not true. I wonder if its unusual to have a heavier firstborn? thoughts?

  29. I was 6 lb, 19" and hubby was 6:15 and 20". Of course women used to be put on diets. My daughter's only bio child was 7:3 and 21" (he's 6' now at just 14 years old). I know you can't go by the parents but I hoped. My four were 8:9 and 21", 8:10 and 20 3/4", 9:15 and 23" and finally 11:1 1/2 ounces and 23 and 1/2". Statistically you're more like a full blood sister when it comes to your labor. The baby sizes are determined by diet, health of the mother and sometimes by her age. Generally a high protein diet can produce a bigger baby. And some couples just have bigger babies. I'm tall for my family at 5'3" and very stocky like my father. Hubby is 6'1 1/2" and slender. Our genetics plus a high protein diet produced large babies. Ate the most junk and gained the most weight with the smallest.

I know when my children were toddlers which meant I was home more because of nap times etc., I did crafts which my friends also did and we would sell them at the different Church craft shows. Sometimes we would bake cookies and cakes to sell at Church sales too. I wonder if they do things like that which would be fun to see the ideas they came up with for the different craft shows, bake sales.

    6. Disappointed in the Duggar Attitude, I talk to obgyns regularly: they all say that the mothers diet contributes significantly to the newborns weight, and eating unhealthy ie ..fast food cause gestational diabetes, which is the leading cause of big babies regardless of genetic history.

    7. They post fast food pics all the time.

    8. I posted before about a woman I know who had a baby as big as Gideon, but who certainly was NOT gorging on fast food during pregnancy, in fact people were worried she wasn't eating enough!

Is diet ONE reason some women have big babies, sure, but it's not the ONLY reason as some seem to think here. People can also get gestational diabetes, or even diabetes when NOT pregnant, without eating fast food every day.

  74. My son was 5lb 1oz at birth. I want to say he was about 19-20in long. I can't remember at the moment. I needed to have a C-Section with him due to his heart rate dropping but he is as healthy as a horse and active as ever now:)

    1. 13 children? Wow. Are you from a fundamentalist group or an old order Amish/Mennonite group? They tend to have large families like that.

    2. Actually large families are not limited to just "fundamentalist" or old order Amish/Mennonite groups. There are large families who are Catholics,Mormons,Methodists, etc

  77. I have two boys who both weighed 9 lbs. 10 oz. And I ended up having 2 c-sections because they so big, I couldn't deliver them naturally. Then I had a baby girl and she was a preemie weighing 2 pounds.

  80. "I love seeing this post its so cute and interesting. I use to think everyone's firstborn weighs less than their other babies at birth but according to this - that's not true. I wonder if its unusual to have a heavier firstborn? thoughts"

I don't think it's unusual, my first was my biggest and each one after that was smaller. First 8 lbs 8 oz, Second 8 lbs even, Third 7 lbs 9 oz.

  81. I was 7 lb 14 oz. My oldest daughter was 8 lb 12 oz and 15 days late. My youngest daughter was 7 lbs 12 oz and right on time.

  82. This is great. Would it be possible 2 do this for the Bates grandchildren also?

  83. I hope Jinger's baby won't be the biggest. She was so small and skinny before pregnancy, and now she already matured in a woman. Hopefully it won't be a 10-pounder... And hopefully it will be a quick natural birth, just like Kendra's.

  84. Already 11 grandkids, 12th is arriving within days... Who is next?I'm surprised Jessa is not pregnant yet, I thought she would have another baby already. Jill is probably waiting after her c-section, and I don't think Derick has a job. Anna has been spacing her kids about 2 years apart. I think maybe Joy will get pregnant very soon? Though they probably advised her not to have a baby for about 2 years after her c-section.
Definitely Lauren after they get married with Josiah, then obviously Abbie. Potentially, Duggars can have 6 grandkids within a year. And I'm not counting Kendra.

    6 lbs 7 oz C-section
    7 lbs 5 oz VBAC
6 lbs 10 oz VBAC no pain meds at all 😱

Unfortunately, I don't recall how long each of them measured... 😥
