  8. Just like the old days - with a chaperone! :) Good to see them.

    1. They dont have chaperones once they are married. Im sure his dad was just traveling with them

    2. I think everyone knows that ❗️

      Delete
    3. Did you see the smiley face, as in I was making a humorous comment? Of course they don't need a chaperone - that's why I said it looks like the old days to have a third person with them.

    4. It's a little annoying when you have to explain you joke
or humorous remark ! Right ?🙄

  9. I didn't think you could fly later in your pregnancy? I know that Anna did the same thing very late in her pregnancy. Doesn't seem very safe.

    1. She isn’t that late into her pregnancy, so flying should not be a problem.

      Delete
    2. You can if it's a private plane.

      Delete
    3. I believe the issue of flying is only for longer flights during the last 1 - 2 months, and in high altitude, high speed planes, not small private planes.

      Delete
    4. She has three months left in her pregnancy. She's due at the beginning of March.

      Delete
    5. She's only 6 months along (due early March). Perfectly safe to fly then. You're just not supposed to fly very late in your pregnancy, around 35-36 weeks is when most people agree it's no longer safe to fly!

      Delete
    6. Yeah I was wondering if it's different on private planes because I remember my obstetrician had a heart attack when I told her I was flying at 28 weeks, which I was surprised by.

    7. Anon " nurse", then you need to go back to school. Youre WRONG. A midwife is TRAINED MEDICALLY. They dont just wake up and start birthing babies. A NON medical person is called a Doula.
You have to see a Midwife the same as a OB and if they feel youre a risk, they WILL discharge you. MANY midwives require a back up OB.

There, i gave you a free education. Youre welcome.

      Delete
    8. 3:29 Also from a nurse- the primary reason flying is not recommended is from the airlines perspective: they don't want to be liable. As long as the pregnancy is not complicated, there should be no issues with flying while pregnant.

      Delete
    9. I like how the nurse implied that midwife only births are somehow not normal. I have never seen a doctor while have four children as in the UK, birth is midwife led.

  10. Before anyone says anything about safety, remember you're more likely to get hurt in a car accident than a plane one and you don't tell pregnant women they can't be in a car.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not true, Matthew. You can't compare accidents per miles driven to accidents per miles flown. It's apples and oranges, with individual factors that make it impossible to compare the two in a linear fashion.

When an engine fails in a car, you can decelerate and coast over to the side, braking to come to a safe stop. When the engine fails in a single-engine plane, you must fighting gravity and acceleration to survive an inevitable impact. Different risks and different outcomes.

If you like numbers, NTSA reported in 2011 that 94% of the plane crashes that year were non-commercial, private aviation ones. That includes planes such as the ones the Duggars fly.

      Delete
    2. It has everything to do with cabin pressure and thinner oxygen. Facts people!

      Delete
    3. It doesn't have to do with the fact of being in an accident. It's the pressure that's different up high! Seriously ...

      Delete
    4. You can't directly compare plane travel to car travel in terms of safety. Too many variables. Two separate categories.

      Delete
    5. I don’t think the pressure is different because the cabin is pressurized...I think it’s just a matter of being nervous you will go into labor in flight...bc it’s safe to fly during early pregnancy. Plus a lady recently made headlines for going into labor on a plane...

      Delete
    6. In terms of pressure differences during flying and pregnancy, from a nurse's perspective, I can assure you that even later in the pregnancy, studies have shown that air pressure doesn't greatly influence the pregnancy in any way. Really the only complication I can think of is her suddenly randomly going into labor on the plane and them having to make an emergency landing. Not super high likelihood.

      Delete
    7. To the nurse, if air pressure doesn't greatly influence the body (the pregnancy), then how do you explain how my gut goes into spasms at high altitudes? I have to take med before flying if we're going to be over 10,000 feet. If those nerves are stimulated to cause contractions when the pressure changes, then couldn't the uterine muscles also contract? (P.S. - Pressure changes before storms do the same thing to me.)

  13. You would never get me in a small plane like that. General aviation and small planes account for the majority of plane crashes.

  14. Is Austin the pilot ? Looks like it ....

    1. He has a license so why not

    2. Yes, he has a pilot's license. They've mentioned it on the show.

  15. I really hope we'll get to se them in a new season of counting on. I'm getting worried that there are no date announced for the next season. I really hope we get to see Joy's new house, her pregnancy and the other siblings.

  16. Flying is safer than driving a car by statistics. Flying in a personal plane is at a lower altitude than in a commercial plane. A commercial airline does not want the legal issues and disturbances to other passengers if you go into labour while in flight. Those are not concerns when you are in your own plane. So Anna and Joy and all others who fly during pregnancy are being responsible and making good choices.

  17. It is a very cute picture of them two. I saw a news feed picking her apart for this photo. Accusing her of hiding her belly on purpose. But I don't blame her for not showing it. That is what gets scrutinized. I have felt kind of bad for her, she can not even capture her pregnancy without someone saying something mean. This picture is just them, and his smiling father in the background. I love it. Praying for this family.

  18. I'd be airsick in a plane that size in about 2 minutes. I can't imagine Joy not feeling queasy in a small plane while pregnant.

    1. Not to mention that the Duggars suffer from Motion Sickness. Hopefully Joy had a smooth flight.

      Delete
    2. The Duggars all of a sudden fly constantly without any mention of the once oft referenced motion sickness!

    3. 8:01, umm, Joy and Jinger have both mentioned it recently.

  19. Joy Anna looks so much better and prettier without all that dark makeup she usually wears.

    1. I AGREE!! She's so pretty in this picture! (Her choice to matter what she does though)

    2. Ditto! Her natural beauty shines through without all the dark eye makeup. She looks fantastic.

  20. Sure, we all fly our privately owned aircrafts to family events....this family is out of reality for most people. When did Austin obtain his pilot's license? He looks great in this photo, nice shirt and all, can't say the same for Joy.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree; where does the cash come from to obtain the license and rent/own these planes??? I get how the Duggars/Bates kids can afford this luxury; but Austin? He's new to the TLC paycheck (he held his lic. prior to being on Joy's show.).

      Delete
    2. She's pregnant and traveling in a private plane - why not be comfortable? Not sure why you need to pick on her.

      Delete
    3. I think Joy is especially beautiful in this picture! She's always beautiful, but I like her more natural look without the heavy eyeliner best.

  21. Is it safe to fly during mid to late pregnancy?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. She's at a perfectly fine stage to fly. It's more when the mom is a month or less before her due date that she's not supposed to.

  22. I live that they are coming to my state. Welcome to Mississippi Joy and Austin.

  23. Is there a specific reason many of these connected family's have children with pilot licenses?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, it's called the Alert Academy (the training arm of IBLP). IBLP/ATI families are encouraged to send their 17 year old sons to their training academy for Basic Training (9 weeks: $3, 640 per child), Emergency Response Training (10 weeks: $4,535 per child), and Advanced Training (10-11 weeks: $1,450- $5,195 per child, depending on choice of training area). Basic and Emergency Response must be completed to move on to Advanced Training. Aviation is offered in Advanced Training for $1,605 for room & board and program fee, plus an avergae of $4,000-$5,000 for plane rental and an average of $180-$300 for Instructed Flight Time.

  24. Well, Jen and anon at 6:57, there's a big difference between a certified nursing midwife and a lay midwife, which is what Jill is and I think the midwives they go to. A nursing midwife has at least a bachelors, but more often masters, in nursing. They're very qualified and often work alongside doctors in hospitals and birthing centers. A lay midwife just has a certificate from taking a few classes and observing some births. Most states don't even allow for them because they are not medical professionals. There, I just gave you the education.

    1. Whatever floats your boat but youre wrong. Its ok to admit it, even nurses can be wrong.

    2. Jen-In what way is Maggie wrong?

      Delete
    3. Dear Maggie as an OB RN of 26 I must correct you. The training and licensure for a CPM such as Jill's is several years hands on and several years study plus a national test. I know several CPMs and CNMs. Some CPMs have their own birth center. Plus a CNN I know practices at a birth center and does home births. I recommend research before commenting. A great way to learn the advantages of midwifery is to look at the UK and Scandinavia.

    4. Oh and Maggie... It's certified nurse midwife not certified nursing midwife.

  25. Why is Joy so pale?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I noticed that too. I thought maybe it was the angle of the shot, but both Austin and his Dad (who's sitting in the shadow, back in the "cab" of the plane) have normal coloring.

      Delete
    2. Anglo-Saxon DNA, most likely.

      Delete
  26. Joy should be able to fly wherever she wants while pregnant. In my opinion it is a poor choice to do so in a private small plane, but I would not say she should not.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey I love Joy, but what has happen to Joe and Kendra????

    ReplyDelete
  28. In that photo she still looks quite pale...nothing to do with being an Anglo-Saxon....she's pale.
