Over the years, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have told multiple "messy baby" stories. Like the time when toddler Jana Duggar tracked an entire roll of toilet paper around the family's 900-square-foot house. Or the time when two-year-old Josh Duggar found a container of Petroleum Jelly and rubbed it all over himself.
With two young boys, Jill and Derick Dillard are experiencing their own "messy baby" scenarios. The other day, two-and-a-half-year-old Israel Dillard had some fun with a tube of diaper rash cream...by putting it in his hair. Even after a few washes with dish soap, his golden hair was still greasy.

ReplyDeleteAll moms know that diaper rash cream is made to adhere well to the skin, and anything else children choose. 😏 Dawn is the best for removal.
DeleteDawn really is the best. It's more expensive than the bargain brand, but it works much better and a little goes a long way.
DeleteAh, so that's what all the drama was about. I had no problem using Dawn on my kids' hair when they smeared an entire tub of Vaseline on each other.

DeleteI agree with Kathy's post. I understand Derek's point of view and will defend to the max his right to have that point of view, even if it differs from mine. However, I wish he would not have named names, singling out Jazz. He could have spoken on transgender, dismorphia in more general terms. That would have made his Comments more pallitable to me.

How do you know "so many posters" forgave Josh but not Derek. I would guess, after reading the comments, that actually more people forgive Derek than Josh. Forgiveness gets bantered around quite a bit. This is how I have come to understand forgiveness - It's not easy to forgive, but we are called to, for our own peace of mind. Forgiveness doesn't mean we make excuses for the one who has wronged others nor does it absolutely guarantee that we will forget. But it puts the person in God's hands to help us move on. DeleteI happen to agree with Derick. He is also a member of the family. Why would he be left out just because non family members don't agree? Fortunately we can still express personal opinions in a non threatening manner. Unfortunately not everyone thinks it's ok to have an opinion different then their own.

DeleteIt doesn't look like he did too much damage, infact hes very clean looking just a little patch on his head. One of mine frosted himself and the carpet with a tub of cream. Hes only two mischief is his job!

DeleteI guess we all have at least one of those stories! My two favorites were probably the time my toddler spread pork and beans all over his face and head, and the time he got hold of the corn starch! These moments make the most adorable pictures!

ReplyDeleteI am guessing that no one was watching him do it but just saw after the fact. I always take pictures of after the fact when my kids do something just to show Dad when he comes home. Otherwise, no words can explain certain things that happen during the day otherwise!!!

DeleteI think a better question would be, "DID they watch and photograph their child in the act?" My guess is that they found him after the fact. At that point, they could either get angry or see the humor in it. Aren't you glad they chose the one that nurtures their child?

DeleteYes, you should keep things like this either up high or locked up with child-proof locks. Thank God (seriously) that Israel didn't get any of it in his eyes. Sometimes even keeping it up high isn't foolproof, if you've got a climber though (as my mother recounts with my brother). Child-proof locks worked well for us.

DeleteThere are a myriad of childproofing devices on the market these days that keep kids out of drawers and cabinets. If you're over 40, your parents probably didn't have them. But there's no excuse for not using them these days. Some are engineered extremely cleverly. I thought that Counting On made a big deal of showing Jessa doing this to her house one episode? Yet Jill's house is wide open to toddlers??

She was supposedly napping in her crib, and when I checked on her, she had smeared diaper contents all over herself. She never did that again! She did the Vaseline smear also. Memories!

DeleteYou must not have children. You can’t watch them 100 percent of the time. You have to use the restroom, cook dinner, feed the baby.... With children you can turn your head for a few seconds, and they have gotten into mischief.
DeleteLittle toddlers are fast and impetuous, so yeas you have to really watch them and watch where you leave/put things and how accessible they could be to your child. Having said that, all it takes is a couple of seconds for something to happen and no parent is perfect or ever going to be, 100% of the time. Sometimes a parent doesn't realize until something like this happens that their child has acquired a new skill set or more quickly than they anticipated. Standing behind a harried mom & grandmom this morning in line, I watched a tiny toddler unwrap some pretty sophisticated packaging this morning, eyes intent on devouring a nearly softball-sized chocolate treat. So I commented loudly and pointedly how smart the little girl was to have gotten the packaging open.Her surprised Grandmom quickly intervened. ;)
DeleteDo you actually have any children? It's not always as easy as it sounds. And it's not like babysitting, where your job is dedicated to keeping a constant eye on the kid(s). When you're a parent, you're pulled in multiple directions with food prep and clean up, laundry, bill paying, etc., etc., etc. Messes happen.
DeleteYou have to develop good habits that prevent accidents like this from happening. Some adult left that tube within reach, and shouldn't have.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of one of our daughters is waking up one Saturday morning to the sound of snipping in my ear! My husband and I woke up to find our oldest in our bed giving us haircuts! She had taken her small child craft scissors which were located in a craft cupboard, and had cut chunks from her hair and was busy giving us makeovers as well! Lol, Eileen.

DeleteAnon @10:27, yes, the child could have been hurt, but thankfully wasn't. Sometimes in a situation like that, you have to laugh at it later. Otherwise, most parents would lose their sanity. I'm sure after this happened the parents made double sure that the scissors were put somewhere where the child couldn't possibly reach them. Sometimes even the most contentious parents don't think of everything that a child might get into. Thankfully most of these situations just turn into funny stories to be told later.

With TLC pulling Derrick from the show I doubt we would see any of this sweet boy -at least I would hope Jill would not be on a show that tries to silent her husband's right to free speech - then again I would hope none of the Duggars would continue on this very bigoted network. As much as I love the Duggars I will no longer watch any program on TLC. With the pulling of 19 kids to appease haters of anyone with Christian values then not allowing the parent on Counting On (well allowing small amounts and no Grandma Duggar or little kids) I was shocked the family continued with this network. Now with this latest bigotry from TLC I keep waiting for a comment from the family hoping they will condemn these illegal and bigoted actions from TLC. I hope they choose not to continue with such a horrible network.

Networks don't automatically give anyone a TV show just because they may want one. Duggars need to take a breather, they must be tired of cameras in their faces for 10 years and "Counting"!

I don’t think they are seeking approval from those opposed, just respect and the opportunity to live their lives free from discrimination and scorn. Two year olds are curious and quick. I doubt there is any parent who hasn't had something like this happen when their kids were this age.

DeleteHave you ever been or are you even a parent? If so, your small children never fell down and skinned their knees, bumped their head, got a boo-boo or anything while in your care? They never got into a single thing while growing up that they weren't supposed to (taking pans/dishes/other items out of any cabinet, clothes out of drawers, books off bookcases, toys out of toy boxes or off shelves, touching things they weren't supposed to, etc.)? Neither parent or housewife equal omniscient (unlimited awareness, knowledge, having foresight of future events) or omnipresent. Can we show a little grace and be thankful it wasn't something major? Hopefully, it was a wake-up call for Jill and Derick both to be a little more mindful of their little guys though going forward. Our pediatrician told us early in that as soon as your baby can scoot, it's Game On= You need to watch them all the time or put them somewhere safe (playpen/crib/play yard) while you do something where you can't watch them. He also warned us that their skills would progress faster than we'd think, so always be aware of that in relation to where they were and what was "available" to them. ;)

ReplyDeleteThank goodnees he didn't end up in the ER from eating it or getting it in his eyes! It is not fifficult to keep toxic things like this, or dangerous objects aways from children. As a parent, it is your responsibility. Just prioritize... what is more important.., child safety or laundry? And yes, it is possible to do both. My mother did. My brother and I never got into stuff, becsuse it was not anywhere where we could ever get into. I have been a full time nanny too..., it is your job as a parent or caregiver to keep kids safe. I feel it's not appropriate to joke about a mishap that could have csused harm and easily been prevented.
ReplyDelete*Eye roll*. Helicopter parent, accidents can happen, hence the name accident. Sometimes a mom has to use the bathroom, or other such thing, and it is amazing how resourceful a toddler can be. Don't worry, eating diaper rash cream isn't fatal. Trust me, I know. This "bad mother" had a toddler eat some. He had a little indigestion, but he survived. Chill out. Nobody's perfect, and even when you try to be viligant, sometimes things slip by. Have a sense of humor and stop being so judgy.

Anonymous @11:06 is spot on- it is our responsibility as parents to be aware of what our children could get into and try to be "one step ahead". It is a habit that caring parents make a priority. It's called parenting: mom/dad make a practice of using safety measures (childproof locks, toddler gates, playpens/play yards, etc.), putting things up out reach, and paying attention to their children. No hovering necessary. Having said that, children are unpredictable by nature and things happen sometimes quickly. We know a kids-will-be-kids Preschool Teacher mom who thought it was "humorous" that her unsupervised preschooler called 911 (on more than one occasion)- I'm sure the Fire Department didn't find it so humorous, especially the day he started a fire under their deck. Many ER visits don't turn out as well for the child when mom/dad/the sitter wasn't paying attention.

Thanks for reminding us that we are all human and to look for humor when possible. I hope these photos bring smiles to Israel's parents' faces for years to come.
