  3. So Jill is the next Duggar girl to wear jeans! Plus her new nose piercing, I'm glad she is becoming her own person! Nothing wrong with self expression.

    3. I think the bigger question is why does Jill feel she needs to pierce her nose? What does piercing her nose gain her? I keep hearing people with nose/lip/brow/belly button/tongue piercings and tattoos talk about "expressing themselves" or "expressing their individuality". What exactly are they trying to express and how individual are they when they're just following the crowd, doing what everybody else is doing? As for the Christian aspect, I think we all know Jesus had no piercings (except the one from Roman soldiers on the cross) and no tattoos.

      Delete
    4. Hmmm so not just jeans but a nose ring too. So now that her husband is kicked off the show which means she probably wouldn't be on either you don't have to pretend anymore that you are this very conservative Christian woman because there is no money in it for you Jill? Your timing said it all.

    3. Since when do you abandon all you were taught about right and wrong, modesty and immodesty, when you get married??

      Delete
    4. I'm sorry, but there is nothing wrong or immodest about wearing jeans or a nose ring. She had to abide by their rules while living with them. She is an adult now, married and living on her own and now is perfectly capable of making her own choices. Who said a piercing is wrong or immoral?

      Delete
    5. She isn’t abandoning all she was taught. Let’s not overreact. It is ok to change your opinion on clothing. Her pants are loose fitting and still modest.

      Delete
    6. Anon 3:35 Thank you, that's exactly what I was thinking. God forbid my kids when they get married start throwing away all that we stood for as a family. Most Christian families that I know didn't see this with their adult children.

      Delete
    7. When you realize the rules were for you as a minor and are no longer necessary for you as an adult. For example, I'm sure there are curfews for the kids in the Duggar home. Jill, as a married woman, is no longer going to abide by her parent's curfew. She no longer has to abide by the modesty rules of dress either. Besides, it's not exactly like she was at Thanksgiving in a bikini.

    1. Why is it a great thing to see another Duggar in pants? I think it is sad to see anyone just throw aside what was so strong apart of their belief and faith and try to fit into the world. Thank God for the Bates family because they actually live what they profess. If a person starts throwing away tenets of their faith seems to me they never believed it in the first place. Stay strong and faithful Bates family, we love you.

      Delete
    2. Either they never believed those tenets in the first place, or they are not strong enough in spirit to stick to their convictions. Both are weaknesses, and make you wonder why the girls wrote a book that included their wardrobe principles, and had speaking engagements about dressing modestly in skirts only...if they really didn't believe in that.

      Delete
    3. It is quite possible that the Duggar girls ALL used to believe that they should not wear pants. I certainly changed my mind on some things from when I was a teen and in my early twenties, to what I believe now. Please stop judging them so harshly and think back to see if you have ever changed your mind about something!

Also, some of the Bates girls wear pants too.

      Delete
    4. They weren't married when they wrote the book, so couldn't very well write about wearing jeans.

And the Bates girl that lives in Florida wears Jean pants often.

      Delete
    5. Are you including Alyssa Bates Webster? Cause she wears pants. She must not be as strong in her beliefs as the rest of her family.😏

    6. Just so you know, some of the Bates girls wear pants. Alyssa, for one. Jesus doesn't love us any less if we wear pants, ladies!

      Delete
    7. You do realize the Bates family has some pants wearing ladies as well, right? Alyssa and her daughters wear pants, shorts, and sleeveless tops. Whitney wears pants and so does her daughter.

Pants or skirts don't save you. Jesus does.

  13. I’m so proud of these girls! Living a life of God and Modesty while being able to enjoy some of the good things of life. I’m glad Jill can be comfy in pants around her in laws while looking completely cute and down to earth! It’s so nice to see them branch away from a lot of the Uber-strict family rules and develop some of their own. Nothing wrong with doing things different. They’re more than old enough to make some of their own decisions. And there’s nothing wrong with doing some things different than your parents. I’m so happy for the girls! I hope this is just the beginning!

  14. I'm so glad Jill is wearing pants now if she's comfortable in them and wants to! The skirts she wore were lovely too but you can still be a modest lady who loves Jesus and wear pants on occasion as well! Sometimes they actually increase modesty depending on the activity :) Anyway, I enjoy all of the Duggars - pants wearing or not, but it's interesting to see them all branching out in their own ways.

    3. There is so much more to being Christian than wearing skirts and being modest. So what if she wears pants? So what if she has a nose piercing?

      Delete
    4. She looks great, she is still modest. A nose piercing is just a piece of jewelry. Go Jill, express yourself!

      Delete
    5. Sorry, but really, "too worldly"? What should she do, cover up completely like a Muslim in a burka? There is absolutely nothing immodest about what she is wearing. She is happily married with two children and at home with her family.

      Delete
    6. Yes it is fine that she chooses to express herself and there is nothing wrong about what she is doing, but since the girls wrote a book about their standards and convictions, it would be nice to have some clarification. They shared with the world in their book about their ideals and as Christian role models I would hope they would want to write about or acknowledge how their ideals have changed since marriage. They don’t owe anyone an explanation, I’m just saying since they wrote a book to encourage young girls I hope they write a follow up or something so they aren’t discouraging girls that found encouragement in their book.

    7. Yes, she is coming off as a fake "for profit" now.

I don't see anything wrong with women wearing pants (nose piercing is another thing but that's another thread) but don't do interviews or write a book about wearing skirts then abandon those "convictions" when the whim hits. That comes across as fake and hypocrite. With the fire her hubby is coming under for his statements, you would think she would be taking care to protect her integrity a bit more. Maybe it was all an act for the TV and profit. How sad.

      Delete
    8. She is wearing pretty baggy pants. In my opinion, they are more modest than skirts can be. She is certainly more covered. Some of the Duggar girls' knee length skirts can hug the hips and derrière, not to mention show off bare calves.

    9. Nothing wrong with her wearing jeans. Many christians wear jeans.

    1. Not that I think wearing jeans is a sin (I don't), but I wish Jill was following Jesus instead of another sister or some other people. Jesus had no tattoos or nose piercing. Christians are supposed to be following Jesus, not the culture or the latest fashion trends. We're not supposed to be following God, as we see fit....but as God instructs in his Word. He says our bodies ar ethe temple of the Holy Spirit. I'm confident most Christians here respect their Church building and seriously doubt any here would punch holes in their Church building. How much more special are our bodies if Jesus lives in our hearts?

  31. So disappointed in the Duggars grown children. The girls always said they believed that it was Biblical to wear skirts in order to appear as ladies and now with no explanation they are in pants. It makes me wonder what other Biblical issues they once believed in and no longer do. I believe they owe the fans an explanation - they certainly did not mind letting everyone know when they wore only dresses. Seems the grown children are changing and not for the better. This with the Starbucks thing and not addressing the issue of TLC's discrimination against Christians makes me wonder. Really discouraged and disappointed.

    5. It says to dress feminine. Back in biblical days men didnt wear pants either. They wore robes/ skirts. So technically neither is feminine is masculine or feminine.theres nothing about pants in the bible. It's just how you interpret femininity.

    8. totally agree!! I'm dissappointed too! While its true that men and woman dressed similiarly in the bible its clear there was a difference in there clothes and I definitely believe skirts are more modest and ladylike for sure for women and its sad to me how the Duggar kids have grown up and in some ways gone away from old fashioned conservative ways and adopted more modern ways. :(

    3. 4:05 Just because it is done by others, doesn't make it the best judgement. In some cultures, nose rings are not associated with the "breaking rules" picture nose rings have in the US.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous @ 4:05- Just because Rebekah had a nose ring doesn't mean it's alright (different time period, different culture, different meaning). Solomon had hundreds of wives- you can read how well that worked out for him. Just because a person in the Bible does something, doesn't mean they were using wisdom or that God approved it. 39. Ok, now folks. Since this family has gone out of their way over the years to state that their religious beliefs are that females must not wear pants or shorts, they need to make a statement saying why it's 'ok' now for Jinger and Jill to be photographed wearing them. I'm sure all will think it's their husbands' beliefs that prevail here, but if it's a tenet of their belief system, and the daughters HAD A CHOICE not to wear pants, why are they now choosing to wear pants? Can't have it both ways. Thank you.

    1. Excellent point Anon 4:32 And why they are at it they are at it they should pull the book Growing Up Duggar because they have no right making money off of a book that says one thing and clearly they believe another. That is called being deceitful.

      Delete
    2. To see a video of Jinger and Jill discussing their decision to wear pants with their parents would be MUCH more interesting than the usual carefully worded ("special and precious") and overly sweet interactions we usually see. For those who say, what is the big deal--it IS a big deal because they made wearing skirts to the knee a big deal in the first place.

      Delete
    3. I see your point, 4:32. Beliefs should not change just because you get married. It would be like the girls changing religions after marriage. Everything they used to do or believe should not be put aside. Their husbands married them knowing how they were before marriage, so there should be no reason the husbands want their wives to change behaviors and beliefs now.

      Delete
    4. Actually, it was not the daughters' choice not to wear pants when they were living at home. They had to obey their father. And their father is the one that does not think women should wear pants.
Now that they are married, they have to obey their husbands and obviously those young men are not as strict.

      Delete
    5. Actually you can. I wore dresses or skirts when I was younger. Several years into my marriage, I re-evaluated my clothing choices. I believe pants can be modest as well, so I started wearing them. The Bible talks about modesty but doesn’t list specific clothing choices. I made the choice to wear only skirts or dresses as a teen and now as an adult I made the choice to wear pants. As a teen I did believe wearing pants was wrong but since I couldn’t back that up Biblically I changed my mind.

      Delete
    6. I do agree it may seem confusing to people, but Just because the married daughters are choosing to go against how they were raised doesn’t mean their parents have changed their beliefs or that they must answer for their grown children. They can only enforce what they believe to be right in their own home. I do agree it would be nice to hear Jinger and Jill’s reasons on their changed beliefs but we also must respect their privacy. Sometimes it’s easy to expect answers from “famous” people just because so much of their life is in the spot light but in honesty they don’t owe us any explanations. Holding Jim Bob and Michelle accountable is wrong, as they have no authority over their children once they leave home. We are all imperfect and fallable, and it’s up to each of us as an individual to follow after God with all our hearts and do what we feel he is leading us to do.

      Delete
    7. When living under their parents' roof, they don't have a choice to do anything but follow their father's rules. Now the married daughters do what's passes muster with the husbands.

      Delete
    8. Very well said and I totally agree.

      Delete
    9. Exactly how have the Duggars "gone out of their way" to state their religious beliefs? The show's producers have asked them questions, and they have answered honestly and sincerely. And you honestly believe that Jim Bob and Michelle "need to make a statement"? Seriously? You aren't aware that adult children often grow up and do things differently than the way their parents taught them? Here's my explanation. Jim Bob and Michelle prayed, searched the scriptures, and then taught their children what they believed to be true and best. They then allowed their children to grow up, leave home, and make their own decisions. For all any of us know, Jinger and Jill will come back around to being dresses only. They wouldn't be the first young adults to try something different, then decide that what they knew first was better. Or perhaps they will stick with jeans and shorts. Either way, they clearly still have close relationships with their parents. It should be obvious that their parents are not trying to tell their adult children how to live their lives.

      Delete
    10. If they were only dressing that way due to their father's rules, then it's an insult to the father to change things as soon as you leave his house. It's equivalent to saying Dad, you were wrong about everything you told me about dressing like a girl.

      Delete
    11. Maybe they really did believe that, but after they got married they realized that not being aloud to wear pants is not actually biblical, honestly it reminded me of the pharisees, how they added tons of rules that the Jews had to follow.

The big problem with the Duggars not addressing the very obvious change in behaviors is that it makes them look like hypocrites, and by default, makes all Christians look like hypocrites since Christianity was their shows platform. It would be akin to me writing Letters To the Editor of my local paper announcing my Christian beliefs against drinking only to be seen at some point, around town drinking. It makes me look like a hypocrite, but in the bigger context, makes Christians look like liars and hypocrites. That makes it a big deal.

    13. 3:45- Funny thing... Dads can be wrong about things. Sometimes we don't recognize this until we are adults and understand that our parents do not necessarily have all the answers.

  40. Are Jill and Derick trying to re-do their public image by Jill wearing jeans and piercing her nose? Trying to show how “liberal” they are?

    1. I wonder the sane thing. I think they are trying to stay relevant by doing foolish things such as this. Doing it all for the shock value?

  42. Funny, i did not notice the pants when I was looking at the picture... just noticed after all the comments!

  43. Pants!!! Oh the insanity!

  44. I'd like to see the sisters write a follow up to their book that talks about not wearing pants or sleeveless tops. They've very clearly abandoned those beliefs.

    1. I agree! I’d love to hear a follow up on how theirs standards have changed since moving out on their own. Would love to hear what things they will keep from growing up and what things they will change, such as homeschool, dress, family size, parenting style etc! No judgement purely interest! I’m a young mom and watching their show has helped me form my own ideas and I’d love to see more from the kids that have children now. Loved watching Anna!

    2. Agreed. I think the thing that is niggling at my brain is that the Bible tells us that we aren't supposed to love the things of the world - the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, the pride of life. When Christians do things that make themselves look or sound more like unsaved people and they lose that distinction, it just makes me wonder whether they earnestly spent time praying about it and seeking God's will, or whether they're doing it because of pride or wanting to look better or any other less-than-Christlike reason. I sincerely hope that Jill and Jinger have done the former and not the latter.

    4. But those beliefs were not Bible-based, so they are free to change their minds. :)

    5. THANK YOU 1:56!!

    6. To 10:55 -- I find your comment troubling. Just who do you consider "unsaved"? My church (Roman Catholic) believes that ALL humans will go to heaven if they want to and have done their best to be good and have repented of any sins. We just celebrated Christ the King Sunday and had a wonderful homily about how there are good Muslims and good Jews and good atheists. God knows what is in their hearts. It is very sad that you think you are so much better than everyone else. Please read the New Testament and you will see that Jesus welcomed EVERYONE.

    7. 10:55- spot on!!

Just because something isn't wrong, doesn't mean it's best. We're supposed to stay away from all appearance of evil. Though maybe the Bible doesn't specifically call out nose rings as evil, what is their connotation?

      Delete
    8. 10:55- Tell me, just what do the 'unsaved' look like... do you include any woman wearing pants or a sleeveless top? Here's a tip from a senior citizen who has experienced a great deal of the good, bad and the ugly of organized religion- Outward appearances are incredibly deceiving. Some of the most 'unGodly' church-goers I've ever known gave no hint of it in their physical appearance.

  45. How special to share the holidays with all parts of your family! I'm glad they don't feel the need to smother everyone into the Duggar clan. The boys are so cute. I love how Israel is leaning into his dad!

  46. Everyone Is freaking out about the pants but did anyone notice the nose piercing?

  47. Michelle often stated on the show that the girls were allowed to wear pants, they just chose not to do so. I don't remember ever hearing them say that it was against their beliefs. Did I completely miss something on that level? Just wondering is all, not being critical of anyone.

  48. Sam is really super cute! And that selfie pic looks intentional to show off her new nose "ring". I'm usually not a fan of those, but it looks good on her.

  49. I'm amazed at the comments from "Chritians" who see focused on clothing rather than the person. Those comments say more about them than Jill. Are you really that petty?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think some of the comments are convicting you that's why you are resisting and stating you are amazed by the comments by Christian people. Jesus is coming soon and Christians need to sound the warning bell.

    2. People's actions say a lot about them. Pants are one thing, but a nose ring?!? Just as wearing all black, or gauges or chains comes with a rebellious connotation, getting a nose ring comes with a picture of rebellion and ungodliness. I'm not saying every person who has one IS, rebellious or ungodly, that is just what, at first glance, most people would think. And it's not petty to be disappointed in someone and their choices.

  54. I don't think Jill has a nose piercing at all. I think it's a stick on type. No way would she have a needle stuck in her nose...it's too permanent, painful and we all saw her cry like a baby at having her wisdom teeth removed.

    1. It is most definitely a real nose piercing as she's been photographed on other occasions with it.

    2. Well she's had her ears pierced before, it's not much different. She's also given birth twice since she had her wisdom teeth removed, so maybe she's gained some pain tolerance.

  55. People grow and change. Beliefs change as experiences are achieved. Until they were married these children were raised with only the influence of their parents, not even influenced by outside peers due to being home schooled. They are just now being exposed to different people and ways of life. If you truly have read their books they state "modesty" as their number one rule. They have always said that their children have the right to make their own decisions. People need to actually read their books and stop believing what other's type. Also it is not our place to judge or state what is "Godly" there are many different beliefs on that matter throughout the world and the only one who knows that answer is the creater itself. So stop judging and assuming!

  56. Hello Lily and Ellie!
Thanks for keeping up this wonderful blog. I was wondering if you could make a post on the fsmily’s fashion/modesty standards and talk about why Jill and Jinger have started wearing pants? I think it’s good weather the girls wear pants or skirts.

  57. Wow. Totally unexpected, but not unwelcome! I would have expected Jessa to wear jeans before Jill, but apparently not. Joy has always been Jill's shadow, so I wonder if she will wear jeans at some point...

  58. Whoa jeans! My eyes literally bugged out! Way to pave the way Jinger! Now your sister is following suit!

  60. The nose stud has been edited out of the photo at dillardfamily .com where she is kissing Samuel. Zoom in on that pic and you'll see the circle overlay.

  61. I think she's being influenced by all the college kids she's associating with. Which isn't a bad thing, it's probably a good thing. She's getting a chance to be young! I don't necessarily agree with a nose ring, she's finally free!

  62. I am interested in hearing from Jill why she is suddenly wearing pants and why a nose piercing (if it isn't a stick on one). What has caused her to change her views on modesty to allow these changes? I realize each of us has a different take on modesty and I'm just curious as to the change.

  63. i wonder what the duggar mom and dad are thinking???

    ReplyDelete
  64. The way people are commenting on Jill's fashion choices, you would think the world has come to an end. Jill looks great, dressed modestly and looks happy with her laundry helper. She's a great mother. Whatever happened to that old saying about a woman's prerogative (?) to change her mind? And the Israelite women did wear nose rings. Read the Bible. Nothing wrong with it. Weren't the Israelites God's "chosen people?"

    ReplyDelete
  65. Its amazing to me that the Duggar blog is about the family celebrating Thanksgiving and all the the comments are about jeans and nose rings...really??? How about a little less criticism? I applaud the Duggars for being together for the holiday! That's what it's all about!

  66. She is a beautiful and godly grown woman and can dress however she pleases. However, it is a bit shocking...the body piercing and the pants!

  68. Everyone, it's a blackhead on her nose. Poor girl is probably mortified. Jill is famously terrified of needles.
