This week, Jill and Derick Dillard are on a tour of Washington D.C. with the Cross Church School of Ministry, the group under which Derick is completing a one-year residential ministry experience. The Dillards were even able to go inside the White House.

DeleteJust wondering, if Derick is the one on the course why is Jill on the trip? Just a few short weeks ago Derick was begging the public for money for his education, if they need to ask for money how can they afford for both of them to go on the trip as it doubles the cost of everything? You would think with her frugal upbringing Jill would be trying to help her little family save money to help with Dericks tuition.

DeleteI'm not saying this to mean but it's out of concern...I wish Derrick would try to gain at least 15 pounds, for months now his face has looked sunken in and he just doesn't look like he did on his wedding day. He looked so nice then. And I know Jill likes to cut his hair but I think once in a while he should get a good haircut from a barber who is a professional. It would look better.

DeleteThat's like telling someone they need to just lose 15 pounds. If someone has a weight issue, they likely know it, have tried to gain or lose, but for whatever reasons have not been successful. It's none of your business.
DeleteIf y'all would see my son-in-law you would say the same and he eats like a horse. He can eat all his food, anything my daughter don't want and then my left overs. Also, right now the eldest grandson has taken after his granddad and mum. He's 13, 5'10", about 125 soaking wet. Sometimes body size is genetics and metabolism.

DeleteWhen I seen Derick and Jill standing in front of the Supreme Court I was thinking how wonderful it would be if Derick or Jill would one day serve there. We sure need more Christians in that office, so perhaps it would be something they would one day fell lead to do. It would be awesome for sure!
ReplyDeleteWhy a Christian? Isn't it better to have a fair and just person in this important role? Faith of any religion has no place in the courts which is why the Founding Fathers insisted on separation of state and church.

Deleteanon10:45, If you are implying that we need more Christians on the Supreme Court, no we don't. Religious affiliation should play no role in qualifying for the job. We need justices who understand that their role is to ensure our freedoms outlined in the Constitution, and that due process of law is carried out. No religion is to be given preference over another.

DeleteWhile there aren't any written criteria for being a Supreme Court justice, the majority of them are lawyers or judges who've graduated from top law schools. Since Jill has no post secondary education, it's highly unlikely that she or Derrick would be selected to hold this high position. One should have a great amount of knowledge of the law in able to make decisions based on the law, not one's religious beliefs.
DeleteI doubt it would ever happen. To achieve that ambitious and awesome goal; attending and graduating from law school, passing the Bar and practicing law would need to occur first! Such a path would require attending a brick and mortar school, studying, sometimes within groups, interning, interviewing for a job, working as an attorney; which may include working with the opposite sex, cases that conflict with their beliefs...

Delete10:45- Experience and background are important factors in Senate confirmation of Supreme Court justices. While a law degree isn't required, most have been lawyers and many with judicial experience. I don't think either of the Dillard's have any education regarding the law and legal procedures. One's religious affiliation should definitely have nothing to do with serving on the Court.
DeleteTo Anon 1:00PM: There is never true separation of Church and State, it's an ideal that's not that easy to accomplish. And why not a Christian in the White House? I always say both sides, conservative and liberal, bring BALANCE to any debate on every issue and every person should have someone that represents their values in the White House, so all citizens are heard.
