"We're excited to go with Joy because this is our first time to go wedding shopping with someone in our family."
-Jordyn Duggar
Joy-Anna Duggar is headed to the altar, but first, she needs a wedding dress. On tonight's episode, she and several family members (Michelle Duggar, Grandma Duggar, Jana Duggar, Jessa Duggar Seewald, Jinger Duggar Vuolo, Johannah Duggar, Jennifer Duggar, Jordyn Duggar, and Josie Duggar) are headed to Kentucky to choose a gown designed by Renee Miller. Ben, Spurgeon, and Henry are tagging along, but they will be at the park while the ladies visit Renee's bridal boutique.

Oh those little girls are so cute and adorable!
ReplyDeleteMost bridal salons don't allow children in the store. Exceptions were likely made for the TV show.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a bridal salon that doesn't allow children as long as they are supervised.
DeleteWell, the nice ones at least.
DeleteI've seen children in David's Bridal quite frequently.
DeleteDavid's Bridal is not considered a high class bridal salon. It is something like the J.C. Penney's of the Bridal Salon world.
Delete8:22 PM -- The original comment was about "bridal salons," not "high class bridal salons." What's the point of your comment, to make 4:13 PM feel bad?
DeleteI think she described David's Bridal to a tee. Compare and contrast with privately-owned salons or designers' showrooms where you book an appointment months in advance.
DeleteRenee who makes the custom gowns is not a budget David's Bridal dress store. It is a custom gown salon or boutique. And yes, most stores of that type expressly forbid children. They don't want them spilling things on the dress or otherwise being a nuisance.
DeleteWhy do so many people need to go with Joy?
ReplyDeleteBecause it's a special time?
DeleteYou don't have to repeat all their last names. We know when you say Jinger it's the Jinger from the Dugger show.
ReplyDeleteHahahahhahahhaha
DeleteEllie has said before that she puts their last names so search engines can find it.
DeleteJoyanna is such a beautiful girl I hope her and Austin are very happy together and that Jeremiah Jedediah get to start courting some very pretty girls by next summer or wherever god blesses them with wonderful friends and then wives
ReplyDeleteHow about some girls who are very nice, but not necessarily pretty? Why the emphasis on pretty? That seems shallow.
DeleteI agree, the constant obsession with which girls look pretty is sad.
DeleteAll beauty is not outer beauty, 4:02.
Delete1:44 PM -- It's our culture nowadays. The emphasis on looks. The opposite of Proverbs 31.
DeleteYou people are so salty.
Delete"You people" are so able to see through to the truth, too. Thank you.
DeleteThat is one disinterested bride. No need for a bridezilla but a bit of enthusiasm would be appropriate. Jordyn seemed happy to be included; that was nice to see.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very last-minute search for a wedding dress. Either that dressmaker isn't very busy, or she dropped everything to accommodate her. Joy really doesn't sound very excited about it and I felt kind of sad watching this. I hope she didn't feel like she had to follow in her sisters' footsteps with wedding planning.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that a big white dress, a bigger church, and an even bigger guest list were her or Austin's ideas. The Duggars set a bad precedent with these huge weddings. Now if one of the kids wants a small "family only" wedding, or wants to elope (!) there will be a lot of guests from previous weddings who will feel left out.
DeleteWhy were Ben and the kids along? I thought Jessa was bottle feeding Henry. If so, Henry didn't need to be there, and neither did Ben or Spurgeon. I thought Ben worked and was studying. Yet he has time for another road trip?
ReplyDeleteKentucky isn't that far away from where they live, so it wasn't a long trip. I am sure Ben has weekends off. Henry is not bottle fed.
DeleteWeekends off? Where does he work?
DeleteDid someone say they were there on Saturday so Ben wasn't working .....I didn't catch that.
DeleteWhy do we have to watch old news?
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to do anything. If you don't want to watch then don't watch.
DeleteThat was a ridiculous amount of people to take dress shopping. Indecisive Joy should have only taken Grandma. The rest just confused her to the point of tears!
ReplyDeleteI agree. The others didn't help matters at all. Were they only brought there for the crying scene?
DeleteShe took all her bridesmaids. The little girls were also her bridesmaids.
DeleteWho was Jana texting the whole time at the shop? Remember, these girls don't text that much unless there's a boyfriend somewhere. All the sisters except Jill were there, so she probably wasn't texting to a sister. In the coming months, remember what you saw tonight...
ReplyDeleteShe could have been trying to get Jill on the phone, but I agree. Phone usage always goes up right before someone announces a courtship!
DeleteIf it was a guy, who was chaperoning the messaging back and forth? ;-)
DeleteEllie said they face timed Jill for a bit at the dress shop.
DeleteI really do like watching this family but I find it interesting that over time how they are loosing touch with reality. I always thought they loved to bargain hunt but these wedding dress shopping shows are getting a bit ridiculous . Who can afford to fly 12 people to Kentucky to look for a dress and one of them comes from Larado! They packed bags for the trip so that had to include hotel tools and food. What average budget conscious family would do this?? This is not the really world, it's kind of sad....
ReplyDeleteWeddings are a special time. Maybe they want to make it special with a beautiful dress. Why not? They are a close family & wanted to share this time together. No harm done. They did this on their own without asking for financial help. People can be so judgmental. Be kind. It helps!
DeleteI totally agree. Obviously the show is paying for the trip but they could at least address it. Ignoring it only makes it more weird, when they're always talking about being frugal.
Delete12:43 am TLC most likely paid for everything since it was filmed for the show. Of course thats not how real families buy wedding dresses! I would imagine Miss Renee gets either paid by TLC for the dress or accepts the free advertising or notariaty for providing the dress. I would imagine these weddings would be a lot different if TLC wasn't paying for everything, especially the lavish honeymoons TLC also pays for so they can film it. Jinger went to Australia, Jessa to France, Europe, Joy to Switzerland and Israel. Wonder where Joe and Kendra went? If the show is no longer on when the younger kids get married, I wonder if they'll even get a honeymoon.
DeleteI don't think their honeymoons were over the top. Most people I know go to far away places they have never been before and they aren't rolling in money. They just value the importance of actually seeing the world.
DeleteQ for Ellie. How long did the dress shopping last? How many times did they have to do retakes of certain scenes?
ReplyDeleteIf it was filmed for " say yes to the dress....would've been
ReplyDeletea long show...
Can't really relate to them anymore, way to much over the top spending and extravagance. I for one would have put that kind of extra money into feeding my wedding guest who no doubt traveled hundreds of miles to a dinner at the reception. Such entitlement attitudes they have now.
ReplyDeleteI so agree. Maybe it is a regional thing-but from the first Duggar weddings, I found it embarrassing that they don't feed their guests at least a light lunch. Having food back at the Duggars for "extra-special" guests is tacky. It is just bad etiquette to ask people to attend a wedding and hand them an ice cream sundae. My mom was a post-Depression bride and the family provided ham-salad sandwiches and potato salad along with wedding cake and punch to their guests, and they were POOR! I agree. All the over-the top decorating and dresses and then half-hearted receptions. TACKY!
DeleteRemember poor Anna's dress --- didn't she sew it herself? And I remember Erin Bates bragging that her gown was only one or two hundred dollars.
DeleteAgree, 8:17. If you can't afford to feed your guests, invite fewer people.
Delete8:17- that sounds like a lovely wedding!
DeleteI have never been to a Wedding where we as the wedding guest weren't treated to a meal. At my wedding we had a meal for our wonderful guest too. Family and friends spend a lot on travel and lodging to be a part of someone's special day and so you should be compassionate and thankful to them. TLC paid for this wedding so there was no excuse for them to not at least offer their guest a meal. Sheesh how is that walking in love?
DeleteIn the olden days, a "cake and punch" wedding was not unusual. I don't see a problem with it. If people don't want to attend, they can stay home.
DeleteJust get over it. They don't do meals at their weddings. It doesn't matter how many people think they should. I have been to a lot of weddings and only about half have served meals. Anyone going to one of their weddings knows there will not be a meal served, so they don't expect it. If you feel like a bride and groom owe you a meal because you went to their wedding that is just sad. Everyone assumes TLC pays for the weddings but that has never been proven. I doubt they give any show unlimited funds to plan elaborate weddings and travel. If TLC pays for some of it, I am sure they have a budget but regardless what they do with the budget is their business. I go to weddings to see my friends and family join their lives together not for the food.
DeleteYou need to make your guests as comfortable as possible at the event where you invited them. If you ask them to come but don't do that, then the event becomes all about you, and they are mere players in your stage show. That's not polite.
DeleteWeddings where guests are expected to stand in hot sand, in cold mountaintop winds, in rain, or in blazing sun just because the bride had a "dream" of having her wedding outside are just as bad as weddings where guests aren't served much food.
The Duggar girls all had food before the wedding, behind the scenes. It's terrible that they couldn't show the same hospitality to their guests.
Food is relatively not important. If you as a guest think you are entitled to a meal, then you are making it about you.In past days, it was common to just have cake and punch. Since when did that become unacceptable?
DeleteI thought Joy was very interesting, she seemed so overwhelmed by the whole process of finding a dress. It could be her birth order, she does have four older sisters. She may not care for all the details, she just knows she wants something nice. Her attentions in life may be towards other things. I thought Jennifer was so sweet, she must feel things very deeply and I love how her older sisters were there to comfort her.
ReplyDeleteI think it's sad to put the younger girls through the trauma of "losing" a sister they're clearly bonded to. It's even worse to make the Bride feel sort of guilty for causing them grief by leaving them. Then having TLC shoot it so the Duggars can get paid and viewers can see it for themselves, be "entertained", and feel like they're a part of the Duggars' lives? Ridiculous and sad. Poor younger sisters and Joy.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with you. That should have been a private moment for the little ones with their sisters, not a public display for ratings.
DeleteI doubt it was to increase ratings. The show is about their lives. Getting married and leaving and missing each other is part of life.
DeleteI agree Anon 6:23
DeleteJoy's indecisiveness is getting to be too much! Hopefully, she learns to start making decisions. She can start with small ones and build up. She needs some confidence! She can't pick out eyeglasses, wedding cake flavor, wedding hairstyle, etc. And then saying she doesn't care which dress to begin with at the bridal boutique. Her response was quite rude. She still has some maturing to do. S.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how she decided on Austin...
DeleteYeah, I felt bad for Renee when Joy was so blasé about the beautiful dresses Renee had set out for her. Joy seemed almost on the verge of tears at times.
DeleteNot everyone is into dresses and wedding planning. Her wedding was lovely. The details are unnecessary and best left to others. I'm sure she and Austin will have a passel of kids and be happy as clams. She's not the most girly of the bunch, but who cares about that!
DeleteAnon 10:13 — I think Austin decided on her. Then decided they should be wed.
Deletemaybe she just isn't into material things. Maturity does not mean loving shopping and picking things out. All that means is you enjoy spending money
DeleteIf you're "not into" wedding dresses and planing, then don't do it! Elope.
DeleteI have enjoyed watching all the Duggar weddingsThey were allbeautiful weddings!
ReplyDeleteI think all the weddings have been beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love all the Duggarsand their a nice Cristian family.
Joy is indecisive herself. But she likes to act bossy. I sure don't think I would like it if I were a younger girl and my older sisters had packing lists that must be shown to them or Jana or their mother. Bossy about the back pack. She is NOT the mother, but she is trying to be one to the girls. Where is Michelle? Joy is the girls' sister, not their mother.
ReplyDeleteIt's "you need to show mama or jana or ME," not you need to show mama or jana or "I".
