Those who watched Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth's wedding special on Monday night saw Joseph Duggar's romantic proposal to Kendra Caldwell. At the reception, all the single ladies gather around for the customary bouquet toss, but instead of throwing her bouquet, Joy walks back it back to Kendra Caldwell, the girl with whom Joseph Duggar began a courtship in early March.
Kendra smiles, still unaware of what's about to happen.
Joseph walks over to Kendra, drops down to one knee, and asks her to marry him. Kendra is floored. “Joe!” she exclaims. “I would love to marry you!”
The two share a long hug, as guests clap for the newly engaged couple.

Isn't Kendra's ring beautiful? She almost uncovered the surprise when reaching into Joseph's suit jacket pocket for a mint earlier, but he pulled away just in time.

DeleteWe have gotten lesson after lesson after lesson from this family that they ONLY side hug until married! And then we see that great big frontal hug. Of course it's going to raise eyebrows! Don't tell us you don't do something and then turn around and do it on camera. What are we supposed to believe?

She was merely being humorous because it wasn't a side hug that the Duggars are so adamant about. before you post your next comment, maybe you should read over it or the original one to make sure it doesn't come across as so judgmental. You made the assumption that this person was rude before even thinking about it. God bless!

ReplyDeleteThanks for these pics, it went so quickly in the tv episode that it was nice to see the flower toss and proposal with reactions again. I admit I feel a bit of a pang of sadness for Jana who is standing beside Kendra. When Joy is approaching the girls to give Kendra the flowers, Jana is looking at the camera, and for me a bit anxious that Joy is headed her way. I thought the hug between Kendra and Joe was spontaneous, joyful and a show of emotion at the moment. It certainly seemed appropriate to me and nothing wrong with it. People call down on the Duggars for their courting standards that the rules are over the top and then criticise a genuine show of emotion as not following modesty. You just can't win if you are a Duggar. I think Kendra's ring is very pretty. I have often wished we could have closer looks at all the girls' rings! I also liked the navy bridesmaid dresses that suited everyone and can be reworn for any future occasion. I thought Joe was quite nervous when he proposed and understandably rushed it a bit. ReplyDeleteI liked that they hugged. It was a nice change, as it was a genuine "caught in the moment" reaction. However, I don't think it's unfair to hold the family to their own standards, per their own mouths. It's not about not being able to win, as you say, but about wanting honesty.
DeleteI'm with you on a closer look at all their rings. I'd love to see the beauty and detail. Maybe someone could see if they'd be willing to be hand models for such a thing.

DeleteThe whole side hug thing is ridiculous. The parents don't even give their children proper hugs, its too sad. When I hug my kids it only means I love you, its sad that they have turned it into meaning something it doesn't.
DeleteWhy can't they just hug like normal people? What is the harm in a hug, they even side hug their younger children, it just seems so cold and unatural to me.
DeleteI guess the children can't cuddle with parents with all the side hugs. I do feel sad for them if the case.

ReplyDeleteSomebody needs to clue the girl in about side hugs. She is going to reprimanded. Poor Joy has probably never been properly hugged like that. I bet it felt nice to get a true friendship embrace. Not just a generic side thing. When someone hugs you, you can feel their emotions. How wonderful for Kendra to probably not even realize what she did. Love her and Joseph already!!

DeleteI think they were about to kiss anon 3:01! Lol! She looked like she didn't care... which is why Austin stepped in and shouted "no kissing, now!" It was kinda sad, really. It's as if a kiss at that moment would have been impure. I wonder what would have happened if they had kissed anyway? Would Joes parents have gotten angry? Reprimanded him? Anyway, Kendra is lovely and sweet. She reminds me of a good sourthern girl and sweet tea and front porches. I think they're a good match.

DeleteI love the couples that actually show some emotion for each other. That is what love is intended to be, nothing wrong with a little hug now and again. I love Jinger and Jeremy because they seem so in love, now this couple. I don't know the others seem so standoffish, except Jill and Derick having to make out in front of the camera, every chance they get, which I HATE watching, its so contrived. Sweet, honest, innocent, godly love...that is a sight to behold. Thanks for these pics, her face says it all.

ReplyDeleteI really thought she was going to kiss him (I thought the same thing when Jeremy proposed to Jinger!) They are awesome for showing such restraint when they are obviously in love and kissing is such a natural reaction! I was initially a bit suprised when I read that he had proposed at Joy's wedding as it is traditionally considered to be a bit rude, but when I saw it and I saw how happy Joy was to surprise Kendra it was really very sweet.
