Behind-the-Scenes Wedding Pics

Did you catch last night's season premiere episode? (If not, click here to read our recap.) Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth tied the knot in a beautiful wedding ceremony attended by 1,000 friends and family members.

Renee Miller, the dressmaker who designed wedding gowns for both Jinger Duggar and Joy-Anna Duggar, kindly sent us these photos to share on our blog. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes photos later this season.

    9. My son is a gun collector and yes people like guns. Its not the gun itself that is a bad thing, it is what people choose to DO with it that matters. Just like money, being rich is not a bad thing it is what people choose to DO with their money that counts!

    13. Sallysays As a Brit, I will never understand America's obsession with guns. I mean why have a tcabinet full of so many guns. If you have to protect yourself why not one gun instead of 10 for what a household of 3 people?

Why doesn't anyone like knives or poison or bombs?

      Anyhow nice wedding pics.

    14. Not all Americans understand it, either, 3:26. You're not supposed to be allowed to have the last thing you mentioned, but I don't see people protesting for rights to buy massive amounts of chemicals if they want, although they're just as deadly as guns.

      Delete
    15. Anon 3:26 your country is being invaded! Have you paid attention lately? England is falling fast and a few good guys with guns can make all the difference
      Wake up!!!

    17. Interesting discussion, especially in light of the lead story on every news station in the US tonight...

      Delete
    18. 3:26- Some people simply enjoy collecting guns of different types, vintage, etc., and it's a hobby of sorts. They aren't viewing them as a potential for mass human slaughter as you obviously are.

    19. I come from a long line of hunters, so we have a variety of guns depending on what animal is being hunted (like you have different screwdrivers for different screws). My dad has advocated gun safety from the time I was very little-our guns are locked down separately from ammunition, with restricted access, in a locked room (select adult family members are key holders). We were all taught early to shoot, both for hunting and in the event (hopefully, very unlikely) of self defense. Every family member, except the one who has zero interest in hunting/guns, has been through both hunter safety training courses and Granddaddy's personal extended gun safety and respect course (not kidding-he's that serious). No one is allowed around when he's breaking a gun down and cleaning it. All target shooting is done in a carefully controlled setting, following his established rules.
P.S. China has strict gun control laws-the weapon of choice is big knives and the victims have nothing to defend themselves with. Perhaps Great Britain and the U.S. should ban knives?

    21. "A few good guys with guns," 7:14? How do you tell the difference between the good ones and the not-so-good ones? Would that be...gun control? Tough background checks? No gun sales or permits to carry given to some people? Your plan to save England through guns needs to go back to the drawing board for some tweaking.

  3. I didn't care for Joy's gown. Of the 4 married daughters, it's my least favorite gown. The neckline was way too high. It could have dipped a little lower or had more of a sweetheart shape and still have been modest. The front was way too plain. It had nothing to set it off. It needed a belt or something at the waist to add interest. The sleeves are also too plain, and they seem to be way too tight on her. I just didn't see anything special about this dress. All in all, a miss more than a hit this time. Does anyone else feel the same way about this dress, especially compared to the other three we've seen?

    1. The dress wasn't my cup of tea, but I didn't have to wear it. If the bride was happy, that's all that matters.

      Delete
    2. As long as Joy loved the dress and felt beautiful on her wedding day, that's all that really matters!!! no need to make comparisons. This was joys dress made just for her, not for you or anyone else....

      Delete
    3. It's not about comparing others it's about what each girl wanted and liked. That's why there are a ton of different looking pieces. I may have not liked yours if I seen it and you may have not liked mine but that doesn't make either one any less beautiful or special. It's really rather rude to make comments of this nature.

      Delete
    4. Jinger's was my fave, by far, but I've liked all the girls' dresses.

      Delete
    5. Honestly this wedding I think was put together quickly, I think Joy is pregnant already which time will tell if she comes back and says she is pregnant from her honeymoon. The wedding was not to be until Oct. Why all of a sudden is it now? Seriously think about it.

      Delete
    6. I think you should have kept these comments to yourself. Everyone has different tastes, and this is hers. It was a pretty dress that she must have liked, and for someone to point out all the things they thought were wrong with it is just plain rude. I think she looked beautiful.

      Delete
    7. the only person who had to like the dress was Joy. They said it later on in that episode that she likes things very plain.

      Delete
    8. The dress was pretty. I think it suited Joys style. Simple yet elegant. By far, Jingers dress was the most beautiful. But I think Joy was going for a more country theme since her and Austin are both outdoor lovers. I was a little sad to hear she went to Austin to ask if she should wear a veil. I think that should have been her own choice. I'm all for husbands and wives trying to please each other, but there comes ancertain limit where you should make decisions to make you happy, too. But I think her wedding was nice. Just simple. I don't think she likes all the fuss. Jinger had the best. It was classy and elegant and rich-looking. But everyone has different tastes. I don't have a problem with that.

      Delete
    9. She looked beautiful! Not all girls are super girly. Some like simple and traditional. I think it has been wonderful to watch each one of the Duggar girls have their individual style shine through in their weddings. No carbon copies going on in this family like so many think! I pray all the best the Lord has for Joy and Austin!!

      Delete
    10. Well, it's probably the style that Joy-Anna wanted. She has a simple, basic style. She is a no fuss type of a person. My favorite dress from the Duggar girls so far is Jinger's dress. I think each dress shows the personality and style of each Duggar girl.

    14. Personally I think it's unfair to compare. Each woman has her own sense of style and taste.Joy Annahas the only opinion that matters. Beautiful bride, beautiful dress, wonderful wedding, happy c

    15. It doesn't matter what we think of their dresses, it only matters what they think of them. Joy I loved her dress and that's all that matters, they are all beautiful girls with different tastes in style.

      Delete
    16. Joy Anna has always been more of a tomboy; I doubt she wanted a dress like the one you are describing. This was clearly her dream dress: she's happy so we should be too! It's about marrying the man you love not how others might judge you.

      Delete
    17. My gown was higher on top and I had people love mine. I thought hers was pretty and matched her personality. It really doesn't matter what we think, it us her dress and her day.

      Delete
    18. All four dresses have been very different and each one fits the girl's individual taste and personality. As long as they were happy with their choice, which I believe Joy was, then that's all that matters. That being said, I think this dress was a bit too old for Joy's youthfulness. She could still have been modest in a dress with some of the small changes you suggested.
Regardless she is a beautiful young lady and that came through.

      Delete
    19. Joy is a different kind of woman.More outdoorsy type. She is helping Austin flip homes, they go on hikes and horseback riding. Her dress was more simple but lady like. Her style is different but to me just as pretty

      Delete
    20. Honestly I think your comment is rude and in poor taste, you never critize a bride dress or wedding especially on a public forum. Each bride is individual and has individual taste this day is about them not you or me, I think Joy was beautiful and did her wedding her way but I am from Maine so what do I know right??? Oh and NEVER compare a bride to another bride especially her sisters....

      Delete
    21. it's joy's choice for her dress... she likes it and that's all that matters!! have a nice day!

      Delete
    22. I agree, her sisters' dresses were much nicer. I did think her makeup was beautiful. She typically looks plainer than the others, it was nice to see her made up.

      Delete
    23. No the dress looks awesome!! My favorite next to jingers!! Anybody else??

      Delete
    24. I feel the same way anon 2:46. To me, its a dress for an older bride not a young girl.

      Delete
    25. I guess you have to keep in mind that it is Joy, and she is not as into clothing as the others. She was once classified as a tomboy (or something close to that). I will agree that it was not the best dress but she still looked beautiful and knowing who she is (not someone into fashion - at all - so it seems) she did well in her choice. I think she just wanted to marry her best friend as soon as possible, and it wasn't about the dress.

      Delete
    26. It fit her personality. She's very tom boyish and not girly at all.

      Delete
    27. I thought it was gorgeous.

      Delete
    28. I don't care for the dress, either, but she sure was a beautiful bride, wasn't she?

      Delete
    29. Gees, thats what SHE wanted. Joy is not a girly girl. I think the dress fit her personality and looked lovely on her.

      Delete
    30. I think the 4 wedding dresses we have seen on the Duggar women have definitely reflected their personalities. Jessa and Jinger have always shown specific tastes in their fashions. Their gowns showed this. Jill and Joy have always been more casual and unconcerned about their appearance. I think Joy was following in her sister mom's footsteps by picking a plain gown and copying her hairstyle. Was it flattering to her body type? Not particularly but then neither was Jill's. I think Renees Bridal could have done a better job for beautiful Joy's special day.

      Delete
    31. I absolutely loved the dress. It was simple but lovely. I loved the delicate floral pattern at the top of her shoulders, and the soft sweet feel of the dress over all. And I thought her veil was pretty, with the flower details. It was very flattering on her. Joy Anna looked radiant.

      Delete
    32. No. I do not agree with you Anonymous @2:46

      Delete
    33. While I understand that the emphasis should not be on Joy-Anna's dress choice, the public (including the Duggars) would be remiss to think that her dress is it going to be "judged". Anytime you are in the public eye you set yourself up for either ridicule or support. That being stated, I personally was disappointed with the dress. However, her Godly countenance and makeup were so beautiful and way on point.

    34. joy's dress wasnt my style either but it looked fantastic on joy. jingers dress wasnt my style either but it looked fantastic on jinger. same goes for jessa, jill & anna's dresses but i thought they looked great on each of them. (i couldnt imagine joy in a dress like jessa's, or anna in jill's dress or jinger in joy's dress!! wouldnt suit their personalities at all) of course, i got married in the '70's so my style is waaay out of style, lol

      Delete
    35. If Joy is so "tomboy" and "rustic" and "simple," then they shouldn't have even tried for a big white dress. They should have gone with something without all that lace, or they should have just done denim! The disappointment in the dress this time was that it didn't really fit Joy's style or coordinate with the bridesmaids' dresses. It felt like they made a white dress because that was expected, but got lost in the design process.

      Delete
    36. @ 2.46pm. Yes I would rather a dress with the neckline you described but I think it reflects Joy's personality in that she is not big on fashion in a girly sense. All the dresses reflected each girls personality so it is rather difficult to ascertain which dress was the best.

I think it depends whether that dress suited them the most personality wise or something or us. Personally all the dresses looked nice. I liked Jinger's more but I would not wear any of them because I am older and my personality differs from theirs.

      Anyhow all brides looked gorgeous.something

      Delete
    37. The thing about lace is that it goes "old" real fast if the dress is that modest of a style. "Old" or "tablecloth." And a formal dress with a high neckline in the front is balanced by a low back. Look at the top designers' gowns and you'll see this concept.

      Delete
  11. I agree. The wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses all seemed kind of generic. The other girls' wedding dresses seemed more reflective of their particular types of beauty. Joy's seemed to repress her beauty and personality. It felt like more something she "should" wear than "wanted to" wear. I know I can be totally reading things into it, but it just didn't seem to suit her, and I've thought that with each picture and video I see of the dress.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think in general that Joy's style is a little simpler than that of her sisters. She has said that she prefers outfits that aren't loud or embellished. Wearing a wedding gown can be way out of someone's comfort zone especially if they don't like being the center of attention. She looked so happy that day and I think the dress suited her personality. It definitely wasn't as intricate or embellished as the gowns her sisters chose but she still absolutely glowed.

    2. Yes!! Jingers was my favorite then Jessa's dress!!

    4. I thought the back and forth with Joy &Austin was about wearing
a veil or not....how rediculous did that sound ! !

      Delete
    5. Joy repeatedly "consulting" Austin about his preferences did bother me. While I'm not a women's libber by any stretch, my goal is to raise a Proverbs 31 woman. She's wise and secure in her own decisions and her husband has full confidence in her judgement("She considers and buys a field out of her own earnings."). Perhaps Joy (not being the fussy type) was leaning toward not wearing the veil, but she was concerned Austin might be expecting to do the lift the veil to kiss the bride thing. So, she asked him what he thought. For my husband and myself, including that tradition was important to us and we discussed it as we wedding planned.

  19. They're outdoors people, and like to hunt together. You must live in the city. Wild game is healthy, and has an excellent taste. I grew up in a family where the men hunted, but in the Duggar family, the girls hunt too! Sorry if this listed twice.

Tamera was referencing hunting in general and rifles specifically, not handguns. There's no need to mock what you don't agree with. Theres plenty of death and violence in the bible and sometimes God himself gave the wisdom on how to surround and kill the enemies. Just in case your not privy to those biblical facts. We shouldnt kill without just cause, but self-preservation is just cause for the use of a gun. IMHO

  25. Joy looked absolutely beautiful! Her name definitely matched her look on her wedding day. Her dress was a lovely, classic wedding dress. I love how she chose to have sleeves for her dress. You could tell how in love Joy and Austin are. I'm so impressed with how mature and respectful all the Duggar kids are to be so young. Joy and Austin are about ten years ahead of other young adults their age. Maturity speaking. God bless you both with many years of happiness. congratulations.

    1. I thought both Joy's dress and hair were beautiful. Truthfully, I was surprised at how much makeup she wore but I realize most brides "glam up" for their wedding. She looked lovely! I was also surprised that her sleeves were sheer. Since the idea behind adding the sleeves was to make the sleeveless dress "more modest", it gave the impression that showing the length of one's arm was considered immodest (or maybe immodest for a Church setting). I'm confused on how the sleeve being sheer and therefore see-through made it modest, as everyone could still see the length of her arm. That makes no sense.

I know it is an added expense, but the bridemaids shoes should have matched.

    2. I would dispute the 1002 guests as there looked to be many empty seats. Maybe 1002 invitations were sent but not everyone showed up. I understand they might not have had time to speak to everyone but it was rude not to offer guests something more substantial to eat and drink, sandwiches, finger food and dessert for example, its not like they couldn't afford it!

    6. What kind of bride announces that they're leaving early and won't be talking to anyone? That is not right! People went out of their way to come for your day. The least you can do is speak to them! If you can't stay long enough to greet everyone, then don't invite more than 100 people.

    7. You have absolutely no idea how long they stayed. So your comments are inappropriate.

    8. All you commenters are very different from my family. We have 100 + on our side plus the other side's for any wedding. I have never once expected my cousin (the bride or groom) to "greet" each individual person. We go to the wedding to chat with each other & have fun taking photos. We all live close by so it's not a big deal; we see each other all the time.

As is yours. Unless you were present as a guest, you have no idea how soon they left. Inviting guests to a Wedding and Reception is inviting them to celebrate with you. You have invited them-They are your guests. It is no different than inviting them as guests to your home. It is rude to leave your guests without greeting and speaking to them individually. That's what Receiving Lines are for. If you do not wish to individually greet your guests and receive their personal words of blessing, you should either not invite guests. If you don't want to stick around that long because you're anxious to Honeymoon, you shouldn't invite more guests than you can handle. It's called etiquette, manners, courtesy, respect, consideration for others (that Others First thing).

  30. I liked Joy's dress but I thought the bridesmaid dresses were very boring.

    1. I thought they were both boring. I really expected more from a custom-made gown again this time, with both Joy and the designer collaborating on something. Disappointed that this is all Joy wanted or all that the designer came up with for her. Jinger had multiple choices!

    2. Wedding dresses usually take at least 6 months to order. These dresses, with the beads, lace etc.. are complicated and time consumming to make. Add to that the time to obtain the basic materials, it takes time to produce these dresses.
When the bride is on a short schedule (like the Duggars are), the brides will be limited in their selection.

  31. Renee's own dress would have looked better with a matching lining. I think that white lining stood out too much under the blue.

    1. Ok it is fine to critique the duggars as this is a blog about them, but it is unfair to start on a non family member. She was there as Joys dress designer and to help her get ready how she is dressed should not matter.

  32. Whos idea was it to style Joys hair six hours before the wedding, they really dropped the ball there? Could they not have maybe curled it again before they left for the ceremony, or borrowed some of Jimbobs hairspray (goodness knows he has enough). Thought her hair looked meh, really spoilt her look, she is such a pretty girl.

  33. I do realize the Duggar family has opened their lives to the public. However, how sad, that each daughter's special day- is criticized at every point. As a bride, I made our special day according to our likes and dislikes, seems the Duggar girls should be given the same experience without every critical comment. I hope they no longer even read the comments of others.

    1. Anon @ 11:23 with all due respect the Duggars put their lives on TV and all over social media, criticism comes with the territory. If they want people to not comment then they should keep it totally private and not release any photographs. They are media savvy, I am sure they know this.

    2. I completely agree with you. It is sad that people sit behind a computer and feel the need to criticize others. Joy had the wedding she wanted with the dresses she wanted. If it isn't to someone else's taste, there is no reason to comment. I was taught that if you don't have something nice to say then don't say anything.

I personal thought Joy and her wedding party looked beautiful.

    3. If nobody commented or left an opinion, there would be no discussion here of any kind! These opinions are not mean or nasty. They're just opinions. Some are thought-provoking and some are amusing. No need to get ruffled.

    4. Anon@12:47, not so. Does that mean that guests can criticize back use they were invited to attend? Is the only way to avoid criticism not to invite anyone at all? Whatever happened to basic Charity? People's personal choices and styles concerning their own weddings shouldn't be something open to criticism. There us no right or wrong where that goes. Just be kind.

    5. People put their lives on Facebook every day as well. How would you feel if people posted in your FB page that your dress was ugly or your words were scripted. You would block them in an instant. Which is what this blog should do.

    6. Anon @ 6:28 I keep my facebook totally private, only the people I want to see it can see it. If the Duggars want total privacy they should do the same with their social media, and stop their show.

    Were you at Joy's wedding?

  35. Why was a Bates grandchild her flowergirl? What's wrong with Mckynzie being the flower girl? Jill's hair was to limp and stringy...it would have looked better done in an updo, didn't have to be a fancy one, give her face a lift and her veil would have been seen and noticed. It just hid behind her head and wasn't seen much.

    1. I suppose you mean JoyAnna's hair
I agree , I thought it looked stringy.
She needed to brush it , scrunch up some waves,
And get some hairspray from her dad....😉❣

    2. The flower girl is not the Bates grandchild. Their oldest granddaughter just turned 2 this year. This isn't her.

  36. QUESTION: Why was Joy's father on her left side walking down the aisle?
All other times: Jill/Jessa/ Jinger he was on their right sides. Kind of bugged me!
Only other thing was Joy's veil - it was very pretty but looked limp - almost as if it was used. . .I know the Duggar's take pride in "buying used and saving the difference". Perhaps it was heirloom???
    again - it was lovely.

    1. I think Jim Bob was on the left so that when Austin came down the steps to "receive" Joy from him, there wouldn't be the whole "remember to step around her train not on the train" issue. Or it might have been to alleviate or accommodate a staging/filming crew issue. Although it was different, I found it endearing just like Austin escorting both mothers. To me, he was showing honor to them.

  37. Thanks Lily and Ellie for keeping us updated on Duggar news and photos! I really liked the distressed, wooden arches Joy/Austin used as decorations on the stage during their wedding ceremony. Can you please ask them or Cindy where they purchased them, I would like to incorporate similar ones into my church's remodel. Thanks

  38. I think the problem with the dresses (he bride's) and the bridemaids') is the short time they had to pick and order the dresses. Here, it takes at least 6 months to order a dress; this is a dress with no major modifications to the sample dress.

Unless the Duggars start planning the wedding at a start of a courtship, they do not have the time to order anything but department store dresses (for the bridemaids) and simple quasi-sample wedding dresses: 'off the rack' and then have limited modifications done by a seamstress. This limits your selection.

    1. They could order bridesmaids' dresses from an online bridal place like David's Bridal, no matter where the bridesmaids lived. There are hundreds of those stores (brick and mortar) in the US, including in Arkansas, and hundreds of dresses designated as "In Stock" on their website.

"Miss Renee" has been able to whip out 2 bridal gowns that were worn and 2 more that weren't, all in "Duggar time." I don't think the shorter engagements are the problem.

That's my thought anyway. We will see.
Agree that Joy's dress was her choice. That's all that matters. But yes Jingers wedding was the most fashionable to me.
