Last month, several Duggars went on a road trip to Waco, Texas, to visit Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Market. (Fixer Upper, anyone?)
Paying for airline tickets for 19 kids can be quite expensive, so the Duggars have grown accustomed to road trips. If you could take a road trip anywhere in the world (within driving distance of your home, of course) where would you go?

One of my favorite road trips was a Mother's Day gift from my family. They know how much I enjoy history. We visited all of the historical Laura Ingalls Wilder sites, because I loved her books much growing up. It was wonderful to see these places she wrote about. Mansfield, MO was my favorite. On that trip, we also visited Mark Twain's boyhood home in Hannibal and the site which was the start of the Lewis and Clark trail near Alton, Ill. at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The next year, we flew out to see the end of the trail with a visit to Fort Clatsop, Oregon near the coast. It gave me goosebumps!! If I could go on another road trip anywhere, it would definitely be west to visit the Lewis and Clark landmarks in between. If you haven't read the L & C book, 'Undaunted Courage', by Stephen Ambrose, it is a must read!

ReplyDeleteAnywhere just as long as I am with my husband. Dallas Texas because we are both Cowboy fans, back to Nebraska, New England and I want to Nashville or Canada.

ReplyDeleteThat airport is the pits, as are most airports. If and when the Duggars invite you, you'll most likely fly to a Texas airport first.
DeleteAnon. 11:19 - Makes sense. I mean, every time we've traveled from MN to Ecuador and vice versa, we've had to stop at one of the southern States before continuing Up North. But on the bright side, I'd get to visit the Match Made In Heaven first! #Baaaaabeeeee
DeleteI have been trying to plan a road trip to historical sights up the East Coast. I would like to see Colonial Williamsburg and places in those states.
ReplyDeleteColonial Williamsburg is a tourist trap. I lived near there for years, saw what went on, and refused to pay for the tour. It's set among a ton of gift shops that want your money, and right down the road from Busch Gardens, which is not exactly historically accurate. A good history book or video or (free) museum would give you a better experience for your money than "Colonial" Williamsburg.

DeleteThat's a hard question because there are so many places I would love to go. I think I would love to go visit my Mennonite friends in Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia.
ReplyDeleteWe live in Idaho only a days drive to the Oregon Coast. That is our go to vacation place. It is peaceful and enables us to calm and reflect and recharge our batteries! :)

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of places that are driving distance from where I live in southern California that I would want to go to but I'd say Las Vegas or Yosemite.

ReplyDeleteI don't know but I don't have any TV and know about them and also seen you tube clips from their show- these days you really don't need to have TV to know about stuff :) just a thought

So many vacations and road trips, when do the school age children have time for home school?
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much school we homeschoolers can get done on road trips and vacations. I'm sure the children have plenty of time for sit down lessons.
DeleteI'd like to know how the Duggars homeschool on the road, when they're using computer programs. Several months ago, we did a one week homeschool road trip through 5 states and back, books in tow...and our child doesn't have to battle motion sickness as many of the Duggar children do. So, I'm curious how they homeschool their children on the road.

ReplyDeleteDriving distance from home depends on one's ability and whether or not you include an overnight stay along the way. I can and have driven over 1000 mile's in a day, so that makes for more opportunity of places to visit.from the Duggar home town, I would probably go to Branson, MO, New Orleans, Destin, FL, and Atlanta, GA.
ReplyDelete1000 miles in a day? At 50mph average, that's 20 hours of driving. How did you stay awake and not endanger yourself or others on the road?
DeleteEven my friend the professional long-distance trucker isn't allowed to drive that long in a 24 hour period. For good reason, too.
