Henry Seewald is eleven weeks old today, and he weighs nearly 16 lbs, which means he has almost doubled his birth weight of 8 lbs, 11 oz. Today, Henry sat up in the Seewalds' Bumbo seat for the first time.

Wow! They look just the same! My babies were chunky too. My oldest weighed 20 lbs. when he was 4 months old.

DeleteHow do you know what kind of doctors they are taking them too? The child looks completely fine, all babies are different and it seems that Henry is more serious. In fact he has the same expression as his brother in the photo below. Is there something wrong with you're eyes? You should have them go checked out.

Relax everyone. Or better yet resist the urge to respond. I have become convinced there are posters who intentionally say these things for the sole purpose of causing offense and stirring up strife. And, they sure do succeed. They get some kind of twisted pleasure from saying mean things..and getting responses. It's a very low level of maturity that would attack an 11 week old baby. Consider the source, and as Elsa says "let it go"!!

DeleteOur son never really smiled at that age and people would always comment on how sad and serious he was. He is one year and four months old now and you rarely see him NOT smiling nowadays. He is always happy and content. What a baby does or does not at this youg age means nothing.

ReplyDeleteWhat's the milestone at 11 weeks? I would think it would be 12 weeks, as he would be 3 months old. Henry sat in Spurge's baby seat. I'm not sure babies at this age can properly hold their heads up as their neck muscles aren't developed yet to do so. He's a bit young for that seat IMO.

Every baby develops differently. My son was in a jolly jumper at 6 weeks, and was sitting on his own at 14 weeks.
DeleteYou can tell they are brothers!! Henrey doesn't have Jessas full lips like spurgeon does but they still look very similar!! He's going to be quite the handsome little feller!

DeleteWhen my kids were that age I couldn't get a smile if waited all day!! Put the cameras down & of course they then smiled. Around 6-7 months all they did was smile st the camera!!

I know the Lord has a plan for everone and Henry, life is good with the Lord. Since we are servants for the Lord, ask and it will be known to you. God bless all of you. Henry you are sure cute.

ReplyDeleteJessa and Ben are great and loving parents but they should do some research on equipment such as this seat, walkers etc. They're really not good for motor development and can actually damage a baby's hips and back. This seat forces infants in a awkward sitting position when they do not yet have the strength, balance, and coordination they need to sit. Any physical therapist or doctor should be able to tell parents this. Not saying they are bad parents, they just don't seem to know better unfortunately

DeleteUnfortunatly that is true. In some European countries and Canada those walkers may not be sold because they are a safety hazard and can slow down the motor development of babies. Children spending lots of time in this equipment start walking later (statiscally, so don't say "my little one was walking by 9 month", it's an average) then those who didn't.
DeleteSitting or standing babies upright before they can sit up for themselves can damage the spine because the bones are still very soft.
The same is true for "bad" baby carriers so called crotch danglers like the Baby Björn which force the babies into a position they wouldn't choose for themselves (pick a baby up, support it under the bum and hold it close to you and you will see that is gets a round back and pulls up its legs so that the knees are at the height of their navel).
I don't want to say that Jessa and Ben are bad parents, I really don't! And I would never think that they want to harm their babies, but I think that they are not so well informed and standing in the spotlight they might cause other parents to buy the same things without proper research just because they have these things.

DeleteNo, he's not fine in that seat at that age, used on a sofa. It's a floor seat, for an older baby. The pictures Jill and Jessa have posted with their children in these seats tells us they do not know what they're doing. One tug, one lean from 16 pounds, and that seat would be on the floor, Henry and all...

ReplyDeleteI have an issue that the bumbo that little Henry is sitting on is on the couch. Bumbos have a huge warning saying that a Bumbo should only be placed on the floor and never on any elevated area such as a chair or table. There is a serious potential for a fall injury. So much so that Bumbos were even recalled a few years ago because of the fall hazard.

Have you considered that they simply placed him on the couch for a brief time in order to take the picture? I doubt they would leave him there unattended.
DeleteMore importantly bumbo' are not suppose to be used for babies who can't sit up unaided. It clearly says on the packaging! It causes the baby discomfort, & aching back muscles and at worse can damage their spine. No wonder he doesn't look happy!

DeleteYou want the weight to double by 6 months and triple by 1 year. My son was 8lbs when he was born and at 6 months he was 19lbs, now he is 9 months and 24lbs. Every child gains weight different and develops differently.

DeleteI had to laugh at this picture of Henry because my daughter looked like this at the 3 month old portrait shoot. I'd just nursed her and she wasn't fully alert and the photographer was doing all sorts of "crazy" things trying to get her to smile. The look is "What ARE those people doing?". LOL Our poor photographer about wore herself out trying to get a smile; if she'd just quieted down and talked to her, played with her a bit, she would have smiled.

DeleteAn infant of 11 weeks doesn't know to 'ham it up for the cameras' yet. They aren't aware of such things. This child just doesn't smile, nor does it seem that he gives much eye contact. I hope nothings wrong there.
