'The Bachelor Party' Recap

Counting On "The Bachelor Party"
  • The day that Jessa and Ben have looked forward to since they found out they were expecting has arrived! They are having a 3-D ultrasound to find out the gender of Baby Seewald. Jana and Joy go along and also find out the gender. They will all keep it a secret from the rest of the family until the baby is born, like Jessa and Ben did with Spurgeon.
  • Jeremy and his friends Luis and James, as well as James’ wife Seung, come into town for Jinger and Jeremy’s bachelor and bachelorette parties.
  • “I have no desire to go out on the town and run around,” says Jeremy. “I want to spend quality time with good friends.”
  • On the first night, the older siblings do a girls vs. guys competition at the Escape Room. The guys go into a room and attempt to solve a puzzle in 60 minutes. They are unsuccessful, but they enjoy watching the girls try to solve the same puzzle. They aren’t able to figure it out either, but they come a lot closer than the guys.
  • The following day, Jeremy, Derick, Ben, Luis, and James play golf. Jeremy admits he isn’t a very confident golf player, so he wears an intimidating, official-looking uniform. “I thought it would help my golf game,” he says. “I was wrong, but at least you look good trying.” Luis does well, but the other struggle. Ben’s score for the first hole is 21.
  • Back at the Duggar house, Seung, a jewelry designer, helps Jinger, Jana, Jill, Jessa, Joy, and Michelle make jewelry for the bride and bridesmaids to wear on the wedding day. Josie also lends a hand.
  • The gals discuss Jinger’s first kiss. “I’m not nervous about the first kiss,” says Jinger. “I’m just excited.”
  • Michelle and the sisters are happy for Jinger and Jeremy, but they aren’t looking forward to seeing Jinger move to Texas. The Duggars are a tight-knit family and spend a lot of time together, so it will be a difficult adjustment. Jinger also does all the grocery shopping and laundry for the family, so others will have to pick up the slack.
  • Jeremy has to return to Laredo for church, but he and Jinger will be married in just one month.
  • Later, Jill, Derick, Israel, and Derick’s mom, Cathy--aka Mima, visit Derick and Cathy’s alma mater, Oklahoma State University. Both Derick and his late father wore the Pistol Pete mascot outfit during their college years, so Derick is looking forward to riding on the Pistol Pete float.
  • After the parade, Derick enjoys putting on the Pistol Pete costume and greeting fans. “When I put the head on, I’m not Derick, I’m Pistol Pete,” he Derick.
  • “My parents have always said, if one of my siblings wants to go to college, that would be fine,” explains Jill, who is a Certified Professional Midwife. Her adult siblings have various certifications and skills, but none have attended a traditional, four-year, brick and mortar university.
  • When the festivities are over, the Dillards take a walk around campus. Derick and Cathy show Jill the dorm room where Derick was living when Cathy came to tell him that his dad had died. Rick was healthy when he passed away, but doctors think it was due to the long-term effects of high blood pressure.

  1. Loved Jeremy's golfing attire! This was a fun episode.

  2. Sounds like it was a good episode. Knowing Derick's dad passed due to high blood pressure makes me want to make sure my husband sticks with his blood pressure medicine. He had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago and his blood pressure was through the roof!
I'm glad the ladies had fun making jewelry together. Such fun memories to share.

  3. i loved seeing the soundman mr jim in one of the shots! i'm so glad he's still around. i've often wondered what happened to him since we used to see him interact so much with the younger kids.

  4. Not to be nosy, but I was just wondering how Josh and Anna are doing. I have been praying for them. Wonder if there was any updates on their family.

    2. I have been wondering the same...miss watching the show...

  5. I truly enjoy watching the Duggars, Dillard's, Seewalds and now the Vuolos, and pray for many blessings to your growing families. I'm curious, didn't Joseph Duggar attend Crown College a few years ago in Tennessee? That is a brick and mortar educational institution.

    1. I don't believe it's accredited though?

    2. I thought he only lasted one semester there. It may be "brick and mortar," but it's extremely religious-based, not anything like Derick's alma mater.

    3. I wonder what kind of certification/diploma he could have received if it was just one semester? I would like an update

    4. I don't believe Crown College is considered a real university. He also did not graduate. I believe he attended for a few months. Whether he flunked out, gave up, or was simply too homesick to live as an adult away from his parents' home I'm not sure.

  6. That was possibly the dumbest episode yet, except for Cathy at the dorm. That part was sincere and not scripted.

    1. You're right, the content was pretty vapid, except Cathy seemed sincerely moved in the dorm scene. Why can't the rest of the show be "real" like that? And Derick discovering his parents' initials was cool. Derick got excited about something non-religious for once. Interesting to see him trying to explain how, when he puts the Pistol Pete head on, he can become a different, more outgoing person. See Derick, you can act differently than you normally do and it's OK. No wrath came down upon you. You can have a normal life and so can Jill and so can your son(s)!

    2. It's obvious from the show's content that this show has lived a full life and needs to be over. Since they don't hold down regular jobs like regular people, all they seem to have time for is planning parties, traveling, etc. The ministry element is all but gone from this show.

    3. You know, I have to agree. None of them, that I'm aware of except for Josh now, hold normal jobs. The ministry element has been missing for a while. The Duggar family and their show is just not the same. I was hoping this new season would pick things up but it appears as though TLC grasps for interesting storylines anymore. I'd be happy with just periodic update shows but not so sure "Counting On" can march forward like everyone had planned and hoped. And good gosh someone please "clean" Derick up. Greasy pulled back hair is not appealing, even to your audiences. Just my opinion.

  7. We watched them play a game in a locked room, play golf, and play around making jewelry. Play play play. Take this show's income away from those kids and what do you have? A bunch of unemployed adults who could not support their families, don't work 9 to 5, and are dependent on Jim Bob even though they're married. Jeremy excepted. He's actually working for someone other than Jim Bob. For now. But I was totally not impressed with that episode. They are just making things up for the kids to do on camera!! Leave them alone and let them go about their boring daily business without us having to see it.

    1. Most people "play" at their bachelor/bachelorette parties. What were you expecting them to do for that occasion?

    2. but you don't have to see it...

I like watching the show and I don't complain about the millions of shows out there that I don't like. I just don't watch.

  8. Jinger is seen next week moving a dead deer head into that apartment??? Or trying to???? Oh please, no. Wrong, on many levels.

  9. Loved Jeremy's golf outfit- he's stylin! Didn't realize how much Izzy looks like Dericks baby picture! TLC- PLESE stop asking the Duggars questions, they don't know the answers-rarely ever and it just makes them
llook bad. I've met homeschooled people before and Michelle did these kids no favors.

    1. Although I agree with you, I think Michelle's goals are different. For example, she'd much rather teach the kids to cooperatively make a cake together than to read a great work in Literature. They just have different priorities.

    2. I kind of agree with not asking those questions... but just in their defense I went to public school my whole life and I really don't know what homecoming is... we had a homecoming dance and parade and that's really all I know...I just never really cared about it so I don't remember what it is...

    3. So agree on cutting out the questions. Lots of the questions are just plain dumb. Then you watch each one of them trying to come up with an answer. Often, they are asked about things it's thought the Duggars would not know of so it's not very flattering to to them. Typically, homeschoolers score very high in testing.

      Delete
    4. Those questions just drive home the point that these kids had an upbringing that was too sheltered, in all aspects.

      Delete
    5. Ok...homecoming is not complicated. It's a football weekend with a dance to welcome back those who've gone onto college or career. It's their "homecoming" weekend celebration.

    6. I agree about Israel favoring Derick! I thought he looked like the Duggar boys, but he is Derick made over! Loved it.

  11. To Anonymous at 10:52 -- I've also met many homeschooled people -- they are doctors and dentists and nurses and store owners and musicians.

To Anonymous at 10:04 -- This is a TV show, not real life. Use some critical thinking -- these people do homework and practice music for hours and renovate homes and do a million things. The adult Duggar kids are not unemployed. Do you think farmers are unemployed just because the kids work with the parents? I know most people go to a desk job but there are thousands of families who work together.

  12. So boring,,it seemed like someone's home videos.....pitiful...
And seems like there are no product sponsored commercials.....
I can't see this show going another season ❗️.....

  13. So Jinger does all the shopping and laundry and I imagine Jana and Joy do all the cooking and cleaning, so I'm wondering what Michelle does?? Maybe she could pick up the slack now that Jinger's living in Texas.

  14. All the "talking head" interviews are just time wasters. Not sure we can lump all homeschool kids together, though. I know some who are very well-educated and now going to top universities.

    1. I agree! It also depends on who is homeschooling and how educated they are and the types of materials used. I know some people who are high school age who are very mature for their age. I thought they were older.

  15. The next two weeks are recaps episode's! Next is another all about Jinger ep!! Wants there like two of those when she got engaged last season?? Then there's another wedding ep.. Why do they even bother?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Why is next week a all about Jinger episode? Correct me if I'm wrong but last season we had an all about Jinger episode bshen she got engaged, what is with it again but its a new episode? And then another wedding episode even tho we've seen the wedding.

  17. No Duggar kid wanted ever go to college? I will never blieve that. 10 adults and no ine was ever interestes in science, law or even divine studies? That's not even strange. It can#t be true.

    1. You can't develop an interest for something if you are not exposed to it.

    2. The Duggar children have been raised to fear everything that isn't christian. God never told us to cut ourselves off from world, just don't participate in it's sins.

  18. I enjoyed the show. I laughed with the guys when they were golfing. It was nice to see Josie hanging out with her big sisters. I appreciate all your hard work too entertain us. God Bless you.

  20. Am I wrong but why is next week listed as an all about Jinger ep when they've already had an all about Jinger ep last season! Lily and Ellie; is that an error or is tlc doing their repeats again? God bless

  21. Why not Haddon Charles. Then you would have the complete name of Charles H. Spurgeon. Just a thought. Congrats on the beautiful little angel.

  22. None of the Duggar children would EVER have been given permission to attend a real university OR a community college. They also would never have been allowed to physically attend classes in a classroom. The only choice, if you call that a choice, would be to attend that Crown College of the Bible, and the girls would have to attend online. Joe was given permission somehow for ONE SCHOOL YEAR because he's a male. He actually wasted his time because there is nothing he can do with a year's attendance in the work force. No choices, really for these kids. It's a shame.

  23. If Jinger did all the laundry and shopping, what did Michelle do?

    1. Are you kidding? What about cooking, cleaning, home schooling, taxi service for all the younger kids that don't drive, paying bills, and helping Jim Bob with his business? In a family that large, I would imagine they could all work almost nonstop keeping up with things at the house.

  24. Are they ever going to address their live in schooling teacher? And if the kids do all the chores..what does Michele actually do??

  25. I see a theme here...seems the majority of us die hard Duggar fans have finally had it...too bad, I blame TLC for not listening to us on show ideas, they just have given up.The UP channels 1/2 hour show on the Bates has more content and interesting things going on then Counting on has in a whole season...it seems. The Bates is actually fun and entertaining to watch...the days of ole'of 19 kids and counting used to be...so sad and too bad...I really miss the dynamic and the fun good feeling we got after watching it...those days are long gone.I agree with an earlier poster about having updates on the WHOLE family every now and then in a two hour special here and there. Maybe a family vacation somewhere off the grid would be interesting.I just don't want to lose them for good and never see them again either.
