Counting On "A Honeymoon and a Courtship" (Season Finale)
- Jinger and Jeremy just tied the knot, and they are on their way to the airport to catch a plane to Australia. “It’s been really exciting…to be able to let our guard down around one another,” says Jeremy. “I think we’ve laughed together more this week than we have in our whole relationship so far.”
- When the Vuolos arrive in Sydney for a six-day stay, they are eager to learn how to speak with an Australian accent, so they ask their cab driver for help. He willingly gives them a few pointers.
- Jinger and Jeremy’s hotel room has a stunning view of the harbor and the Sydney Opera House.
- The first order of business is to learn how to throw a boomerang. The locals who teach the Vuolos offer to paint their faces. Jeremy happily agrees, but Jinger isn’t too thrilled about it. “I just decided to do it on my hand,” says Jinger. “It’s easier to wipe off.”
- While walking around the harbor, they stumble upon a man playing the didgeridoo, and he teaches Jeremy. Jinger and Jeremy are told that if women play the didgeridoo, they will become pregnant, so Jinger doesn’t try. “Does your family have a lot of didgeridoos?” Jeremy asks his new wife. They both start laughing hysterically.
- On another day, the newlyweds take a water taxi through the harbor. Jinger starts feeling seasick, so they have to cut the trip short.
- Jinger and Jeremy are able to pet koalas and feed kangaroos at a local zoo. They also visit a fish market, where they learn how to clean a kingfish. Jeremy tries a piece raw and convinces Jinger to do the same. “Jeremy has helped me to expand my palate and try new things,” says Jinger.
- Jeremy jumps behind the wheel of a car and tries his hand at driving on the left side of the road. Jinger freaks out a bit.
- The Vuolos meet up with an Australian chef for a lesson in grilling seafood. The chef is a very outgoing woman who jokes with Jinger and Jeremy when she catches them being “lovey dovey.”
- Back in Arkansas, Austin Forsyth stops by the Duggar house to talk to Jim Bob. He has his pilot’s license, knows how to use heavy equipment, and just purchased a house that he plans to flip.
- Austin Forsyth asks Jim Bob for permission to ask Joy to start an official courtship.
- Jim Bob gives Austin the green light and offers to help him implement his plan to pop the question. “I really believe that you are a great guy,” the dad of 19 tells Austin. “I think we would all be honored for y’all to start an official courtship.” He gives Austin a side hug.
- A little while later, Austin invites Joy and four of her brothers to do outdoor work at his family’s camp (Fort Rock). The boys are all good friends with Austin.
- After finishing with their work, they all head to a lookout point called The Rock. Austin has been saving the location for a special moment with Joy. The boys hang back and let the couple climb up to the lookout.
- “You know, Miss Joy-Anna, I don’t think it’s any coincidence or accident the way the Lord has brought our friendship together,” says Austin. “I would be honored if you would be more than just friends, if you would go to the next step and enter a courtship with me.”
- “I would love to,” responds Joy, beaming. The two give each other a side hug. On the way back to the camp, Joy insists on sitting in the middle of the front seat of the truck, between Austin and Jeremiah.
When will the new season premiere, or is it under wraps still?

DeleteI'm sorry but as an Australian the didgeridoos part annoyed me. You won't fall pregnant. The legend goes, a pregnant women once played it and her baby was born unhealthy so now the legend says that no women should play it. Nothing to do with falling pregnant.
ReplyDeleteYou are not correct. It is part of Aboriginal folklore. I am also Aussie and this was taught in schools. Sadly a lot of Aussies know nothing about the aboriginal stories - The Dreaming is part of the cultural. See if you can find it in the library or maybe on line. It is a very beautiful story and explains a lot about their culture.
DeleteI MISS YOUR SHOW TERRIBLY, AND SURE WISH TLC WOULD BRING YOU ALL BACK ON. I actually gave up TV completely, and havew chosen to not bother watching TV. Instead. i watch movies which I have been gathering for a few years; most of which are Christian movies. and that take up a lot of my spare time.

DeleteI am Aussie and have always been of the understanding that women do not play the didgeridoo has they will become pregnant. Different myths abound by the sounds of things. So long as we are aware that women do not play the didgeridoo all is well with the world.

ReplyDeleteNew Zealand had just experienced a huge earthquake - they were in Australia at the time. I am not sure they even went to NZ as the places they were to visit may have been hit by the earthquake.
DeleteOne of these days I hope to actually see this show. I find it interesting he call Joy Miss Joy-Anna. I wonder if it's a southern thing. I have no problem with it because it seems like a sweet way to address a lady.

DeleteIt's certainly a southern thing. Ma'am, Miss, Sir, Mister, etc, usually, but not always followed by the persons first name. Age is no factor in showing respect down here in the south.

I don't know how eating seafood is expanding your pallet. Makes me wonder what on earth the duggar kids are eating?

DeleteIf she doesn't like seafood it would be expanding her pallet, and eating raw fish would also be expanding her pallet.
DeleteMaybe they don't eat much seafood in the Duggar home. Frankly, I don't make fish very often, even though I know it's healthy. I hate how it smells up the house.
DeleteI remember the show from Japan and there were plenty of Duggar noses turned up at the cuisine there. Little Jordyn wasn't put off by anything though; she loved the food. Love that kid
DeleteI don't think Duggars have ever expanded their palates too far. All their overseas trips were accompanied by suitcases full of "snacks". Travel should be an eye-opening experience and that includes a variety of foods.
DeleteNot at all "odd" that she stated she was expanding her palate, especially given the Duggar's family size and how meals would have had to be planned. We are a single income family of 6 and I know that even we cannot afford to dine out anywhere we might want to (certainly not at a seafood restaurant). But SO many people are "picky" in what they will/won't eat. My husband was, until we married (and it's been a LONG process to get him to where he'll eat just about any type of food, now).

ReplyDeleteProbably accident statistics.. You have about the same chance of being struck by lightning or being attacked by a shark as you do being shot (assuming you aren't traveling in the south side of chicago). Side note, assault weapons don't exists, proper terminology is long gun or rifle.

DeleteThey didn't lie. Either the New Zealand part hasn't aired or due to the earthquake that happened during the honeymoon the production crew might have decided not to film there.

ReplyDeleteTo Feb 27 @938 and @942: I've met lots of Aussies & they all have a good sense of humour, often teasing Americans (I'm Canadian) when I've been in Australia and also all over Europe. I've heard stories of 'drop bears' in Germany and the haggis is an elusive animal in Scotland and all kinds of fun and silliness. Not sure why you are offended by someone have humour about a didgeridoo with a couple that's obviously in love.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this episode very much, Jinger and Jeremy are a sweet couple and it was fun seeing them together. My sister and her husband did an Australian honeymoon as well, they did the same sort of thing, only their experience with kangaroos was on a pizza rather than petting them at the zoo.
Happy for Joy and Austin of course, I hope they have been using this time to really search each other spiritually, I look forward to seeing where God leads them.

That was a fun episode, although I'm sad they didn't stretch the season out long enough to show some of these things that have already happened, like Jill's baby announcement, Henry's birth, etc.
ReplyDeleteA lot of times when filming shows like this what is shown is usually shown about 6 months after it happened. What they film in the fall is usually shown in the spring and what is shown in the Spring is what is shown in the Fall. They have to be able to have time to get the show down to the time they are given. Plus film the interviews. I am guessing we will see baby for Jill and Jessa this summer.

DeleteThe Duggars are not too clued in when it comes to cultural sensitivity. The comment about the didgeridoo legend is an example. Another was Jessa and Ben feeding the pigeons in St.Mark's in Venice. They are signs everywhere in several languages prohibiting feeding the pigeons, warning of a serious fine and yet they did!! They acted like St. Mark's Square was some kind of hidden away place.

ReplyDeleteSir or Ma'am, here in the south, we are taught to show respect to everyone, age is not a factor. Saying Miss or Mister is a sign of utmost respect.

DeleteBoy, how romantic was that trip to the rock? Austin calls her Ms. Joy-Anna and they vow not to even hold hands, because it's his decision and she goes along because it will "keep their purity." He may as well have asked her to become an employee of the camp. Maybe fetch water for the menfolk. Absolutely the coldest courtship offer ever on this show.

DeleteDidn't Jessa say her labor was "calm and relaxed" or something like that? Yet in the preview clips, they show her writhing around in pain and crying out, just like her first labor. So which was it? What she said, or what was filmed?

DeleteIt can be calm and relaxed- but still be painful. Her first labor was much longer, and this is her second baby so she probably felt more at ease. Give it a rest.

DeleteCan someone clear something up? Joy has said that she's known Austin "forever," and "since we were kids," but on last night's show, she said she only met him or got to know him 5 years ago when he came to her house. Did anyone catch that discrepancy, and if so, what's the real story?

DeleteI'm from Australia and I'm pretty sure its superstitious for women to play the didgeridoo because it can make them infertile or have negative consequences to their fertility...I haven't watched the episode yet, but I'm surprised Jinger and Jeremy were told the opposite!
ReplyDeleteI would think that newlyweds need and should have some sort of privacy on their honeymoon, not have cameras and a crew follow them. I think it would be quite awkward to a virgin bride, but TLC paid for this trip and it's a working honeymoon for Jing and Jer. Something's just not right with that.

Guess you gotta trade something in exchange for a paycheck, and if it's privacy on a honeymoon, so be it! Sad, because it's the only one they'll ever have, and they felt they had to share it with everyone.

DeleteI wonder if the Duggars arranged for filming the first half of the honeymoon to make sure Jinger was okay with Jeremy before they went off truly alone. They have always said the film crew has become family so having them nearby would be a comfort to Jinger if she got panicky about being alone with a man she barely knows and away from the clan.

Jeremy himself talked about seeing another side to Jinger, and them being able to let their guard down with one another now that they're alone.

ReplyDeleteI did see that and found it quite funny. Maybe Jinger and Jeremy should realize that they dont have to be touching/hugging/kissing each other all the time. They both mentioned that they are newlyweds and its to be expected but sorry, all that physicality in front of a stranger is a bit juvenile. The chef was there to teach them how to BBQ and they were ignoring her to nuzzle.
DeleteSo true! I realize they are making up for lost time since touching was a no no before the wedding but they need to rein it in a bit when in public. Holding hands and terms of endearment are great and can probably tide them over until they are in private.

ReplyDeleteThere are lots of fashionable, attractive clothing that women can wear without showing too much skin. Maybe the girls just keep up this "modest" wear thing around their parents as it seems to be their rule. I have hope that maybe this rule is also being phased out; the guys are wearing shorts and the world hasn't come to an end.

ReplyDeleteI agree that Jinger barely knows Jeremy. They have had no time or opportunity to be themselves with each other. They, themselves said that it was nice to "let their guard down" with each other after marriage. If one must continually keep their guard up and act on company manners when together, they barely know each other.

ReplyDeleteI have driven in England and Ireland on the opposite side of the road. It takes about 5 minutes to acclimatize.

DeleteThe best honeymoon out of all the kids so far, in my opinion, was Jill and Derick's. Why? Because of P-R-I-V-A-C-Y. No film crews. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree. While an exotic, TLC financed honeymoon must be tempting for these couples, it must be so awkward to have a camera crew following their every move. They got no alone time before the wedding and it carries on to the honeymoon. Might as well take their parents with them.
DeleteSomething bothered me about Jeremy's behavior with Jinger during the taped honeymoon. And because she is well versed in public pleasantries, it is difficult to tell if she truly felt uncomfortable with his fast driving and seemingly inappropriate timing or not.
