Heartbeats, Rap, and Wedding Planning (Promo Video)

It's Monday, and we are just hours away from a brand new episode of Counting On! Unfortunately, TLC has only released one promo video, and it's through PEOPLE Magazine, so it's a small screen, but a small video is still better than no video, right? We embedded the clip below and will share any others should they become available.

The written summaries of tonight's episode and next week's episode are also below.

Monday, January 23
9pm ET/8pm CT: Could it be Twins?
Jessa and Ben listen to the heartbeat of Baby #2, which makes them wonder if they are having twins. They travel to see friend Flame in concert, and Ben takes center stage. Jinger continues with wedding planning and finalizes important details.

  1. So the whole "twin" thing is just a tease? And Jessa was 18 weeks along and had not seen any professional to listen to the heartbeat? This was the first time? Does she have any concerns seeing she hemorrhaged during the last labor?

  2. I always look forward to seeing a new episode, but seeing a rap performance is almost the opposite of what I watch this show for. More to fast forward through, I guess.

  3. Can't get the video to play. Anyway, this silly "twin" stuff makes me wonder if Jill knows what she's doing. Seems the first thing any "midwife" should know is where the baby is and how many of them there are. Are they going to play silly speculation games with every pregnancy in this family? It's not even amusing any more.

    1. Sometimes even a CNM isn't sure if it's one baby or two, then they do an ultrasound. Since Jessa had such a serious complication during the last DIY home birth, she should have been seeking professional prenatal care in the first trimester. Why doesn't she and her mother and sisters understand this? It is basic.

  4. Good luck with your labor and delivery Jessa. I pray that you think of your health and the baby's and have this child (no, it's not twins) in an appropriate health care facility with professionals attending you. Jill is not a professional and neither is your mother or mother in law. You sidestepped a very dangerous situation the first time; please don't be reckless for the sake of a tv show.

  5. Jeremy's "bachelor pad" looked pretty good last season. Why did they have to make an episode about changing it? And that should have been between Jeremy & Jinger, not a bunch of sisters who had to travel hundreds of miles just to get into a difference of decorating opinion for the camera. TLC, you are scraping the underside of the bottom of the barrel this season! Or else trying to promote something Jana has going on...hmmm...

    1. They live in the US.

And in the TV show you can see that Derrick was looking after them.

    3. They sell them in most baby stores here in the USA. They make them safer now but it is still a good idea to watch the little one while in the walker. Spurg was safe with Israel pushing him because he was supervised.

      Delete
    4. Still legal in the U.S.

    5. My daughter is 4 and my son is 7. I bought one for them at Toys R Us when they were babies.I'm pretty sure they still sell them there as well as other stores in the US.

    7. I was wondering that, too, 5:03. Along with the dangers they bring (stair falls, reaching things they shouldn't), they also have been shown to delay physical and mental development. Another in a long line of Duggar babies put in dangerous situations. "Oh but they're right there with him" doesn't cut it this time, not when it comes to developmental delays. Those contraptions are bad news all around.

      Delete
    8. I'm sure that the person who posted the original comment knows that the Duggars aren't Canadian. American and Canadian safety standards tend to be very similar so they were probably surprised that baby walkers are still sold in the States. I am a RN at a children's hospital emergency department and the stories I could share about walkers (and trampolines) could change anyone's mind about having these

      Delete
    9. We use a baby walker and they are safe as long as the baby is being watched. With anything, you have to watch your child.

      Delete
    10. Read all the doctors' reports about how bad they are for muscle development and even mental development. You'll see that Canada is on the right track for protecting children.

    11. Ugh. So tired of fear mongering. Anything used in excess is not going to have great results. My two oldest were across the board developmentally delayed and are both on the autism spectrum. Neither used a walker. My youngest started walking at 9 months. He's not even 1 yet and he ran down the hall yesterday. He can also crawl, roll, get up and down without assistance, and climb up a small step (supervised of course) and His language and cognitive skills are slightly ahead of where they should be. These studies aren't exhaustive enough to prove correlation equals causation. There is not a one size fits all rule when it comes to raising a child. Just use good judgement, watch your kid, keep track of milestones, and ultimately give it to God because you can do everything "right" and still get a crushing diagnosis. I would know, I've gotten three of them.

      Delete
    12. I don't think I'd use walkers anymore, but the claim that they cause physical and mental developmental delays is silly. Our oldest used a walker. She walked at 9 months and said her first word at 8 1/2 months, and was reading before kindergarten. Another one of our children used a walker and walked at 8 months and is not in the least mentally delayed. While I think they can be dangerous around stairs, and maybe not worth the risk, but causing developmental delays? I doubt it...

      Delete
  7. They don't live in Canada and USA child safety laws are not the same from State to State. Unless a federal ban exists you can buy what ever your State sells.

  10. Watched for twenty minutes then found it boring. Appalled at the producers question" what kind of cheese would Jinger be"- really, that's the only thing you could ask. Won't be watching further episodes, they are blandly scripted and no one can articulate an answer.

    1. I haven't watched the episode yet. They really asked what kind of CHEESE would Jinger be? What kind of a question is that? Totally weird and boring.

      Delete
    2. Weirdest interview question ever. Even worse than Barbara Walters asking people what kind of tree they would be.

      Delete
    3. Yup @9:50...what kind of cheese would Jinger be? Have to admit that's when I turned the channel too. It was bad enough Jill and Anna at a public play facility to allow their kids to have play-dates when no other children were there...or Jill giving Jessa her first "appointment" and still pretending to be a qualified CNM...or Ben being nervous about shooting a water gun...but what cheese would Jinger be? They lost me. I can't figure out the appeal of this show, but clearly I am not getting it as it keeps getting renewed.

    4. Just when you thought this show couldn't hit any more lows...... Good thing we still have the gagging to look forward to!

      Delete
    5. 1. I saw other kids at some point at the play facility. I think it was at the end.
      2. Neither Jill nor Jessa called it an "appointment" - she was just checking the heartbeat, which she's done a gazillion times before. She wasn't just "playing nurse".
      3. Ben was no doubt nervous about being in front of a lot of people, not shooting a water gun.
      4. Pepper jack! :)

  11. Always nice to see Anna and the children. Was also nice to see Israel and Spurg though the clips on the commercial were much older.
I'm not fond of all the clips between siblings but it was nice to see them.
Not the best episode they have offered but will be great once all the older material is out of the way.

  12. I have watched the Duggars for years, but the new shows are so boring. This episode was unbearable, its so scripted and rehearsed. It just seems like they repeat the same material all the time.

    1. I think the reason is because in the early years, it was fun to see how a super-size family functions -- how much food they eat, how they do chores, travel, etc.

Now, the show is just about a bunch of newlyweds and is thus not much different than any other reality show, except this show seems to recycle footage in each episode.

      Delete
    2. I agree!! It was interesting to see how they did things as a big Christian family! Now it's just entertainment about rap, water guns and cheese!

  13. Abit scary that Jessa was so far along and that was the first time she heard the heartbeat and still hasn't had not even one ultrasound. I'm an Australian nurse.. Are Americans in AK usually have next to no prenatal care? I bet she hasn't even seen a doctor!

    1. They were very vague about what "appointments" Jessa has had, or who was present at them.

    1. You know there's way more to prenatal care than listening to a heartbeat! If she is getting that, they aren't saying. I can't imagine not LIVING at a doctor's office this time, after what happened last time.

      Delete
    2. She said at her appointment last week the heart rate was 130 and that they would be getting a ultrasound. She is getting prenatal care.

    3. Who's doing the blood tests and the routine urinalyses? I had to give a sample at every single OB appointment, and it's a good thing I did, because protein started showing up...

    4. you don't know if she had had any or not just because of what it said I follow her and her family she had care this was just to listen and check on things between sisters and having jill as a midwife she is getting lots of Prenatal care

  15. What was the point of Jill and Anna visiting that childrens' play center when there weren't any other children there for them to play with? Why are they continuing to isolate their children from other play mates? I highly doubt that these grandchildren will be "badly influenced" when playing with other children at this age. It was boring to watch. Really not interested in seeing Anna.

    ReplyDelete

    1. And Jill wonders why Israel acts like he's an only child and wants everything for himself. Not only is it typical for that age, keeping him away from other kids his own age isn't going to help matters. Most kids by that age are in some sort of preschool or daycare, mingling with other kids and learning social skills. I don't think keeping him so isolated while on the mission (for "safety") helped social matters.

    2. Did you take it enter consideration that TLC didn't have permission to film other people's children? I'm sure they have play dates with other children we just don't see it filmed. Good grief you'd think it was against the law to hang out with family!

      Delete
    3. Anon@ if you don't want to see Anna then I strongly suggest you watch something else. There are those of us who love and care about Anna and would like to see her.

      Delete
    4. I just don't think it's right if Anna can be on the show but Josh can't. After all they are still together, so the family is still getting money from TLC!

      Delete
    5. How is seeing Anna muse about what a bad mother she thinks she is something you want to see?

      Delete
    6. Maybe other parents didn't give permission for their children to be filmed.

  16. I have tried to watch and give it one more try..... not anymore.... really? Lessons on how to dress a baby. Do the Duggars think they are the first to have had children? I'm done with their boring plot. Time to cancel the show and bring on something new and refreshing!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It wasn't how to dress a baby, it was how to STYLE a baby! Which, as we all know, lasts until the first juicy burp or the next leaky diaper...

    2. I have to agree with you.

    3. I think the network and same ole producers are getting tired and are grasping for material. This family needs a new network or new people behind the scenes to revive and freshin it up or I fear this is the last season.I think they need to bring back the younger kids and mom and dad back in the fold.

      Delete
    4. The show can't be revived or refreshed because the Duggars themselves don't lead interesting lives. They treat everyday occurrences like they are special; Ben has a rapper friend! JInger likes coffee! The kids go to the dentist! Everyone eats the same dessert for their birthday! Jill and Derick go to the grocery store on a date! Guess what? That is all our lives and just not worth watching anymore

      Delete
    5. Totally agree with Josephine. This stuff is too boring and should be bottled as a cure for insomnia.

      Delete
    6. I wondered who "styles" a baby? You're dressing a baby, and Ben was right - ease and comfort are key.

  17. SOOOOO .....Boring....I used to record so I didn't miss anything, and f.forward through commercials....the last thirty seconds showing previews of upcoming shows,is funny, but are they gonna show Derrick gaggy every week ❓ YUK...
And at this rate ,are we gonna see Jessa's birth....in few weeks or in the fall..
Homey ,cheesy, and babe,it's not hard to dress a baby ❗️When was that scene filmed 🙄
    I love the Duggars ,but,You're losing viewers....🙁

  18. I was disappointed because it was a repeat. I thought it would be new footage. The families are interesting-I'm surprised TLC can't figure out footage & has to give us footage we've seen.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The last thing we want to see are those parents, Jim Bob and Michelle. Not interested in the little kids, as they do nothing to film about. Still wondering what the older unmarried guys actually DO?

  20. Bahaha what kind of cheese would ginger be!?!? Rofl!

  21. The Duggars don't seem to have much going on lately, so the shows are going to remain boring. They seem to be isolated from other people more and more.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why was this weeks and next weeks episodes on Monday nights?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because the show switched to Monday nights. What's even stranger is that one Monday, we saw a show about a big family put in the time slot right after the Duggars. This week, it was a paralyzed woman? I don't know, because I switched channels as fast as I could when the birthing scenes were on. TLC can't figure out what to do with Mondays. Seems to be where they stick everything that has no other good home!

      Delete
    2. they changed the days the show is on Monday nights now

  23. The play place could have advertised that this episode would be filming on that date, so if parents don't mind having their children in the shots, please attend. At least it would have been different to see those kids and MOTHERS interact with real people. When Anna first moved to DC, she brought her kids to a play group and a library and other children were filmed being there too. No problem.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think the Duggars and extended families members need to know that it is really okay to say "No" to the stuff TLC makes them do. It can be very intimidating to stand up to the higher ups at Discovery Communications but in the long run fans will appreciate it
