Duggars Visit Creative Studio

After Jinger chose her wedding dress on last night's episode of Counting On, she and her mom, her four oldest sisters, Jeremy's parents, Derick, Ben, Israel, and Spurgeon spent the evening at Creative Studio Fredericksburg.

Everyone paired up in groups of two and created a special canvas painting for Jinger and Jeremy's home in Laredo, Texas. Rebecca, the owner of the studio, graciously gave us permission to post the photos that she took during the three-hour session.

Rebecca also shared her experience working with the Duggars and the Counting On film crew:

The cast and crew were so easy and sweet to work with. My friends rallied to help me and went way above and beyond what they expected to have to do.

A highlight for me was painting the teeny tiny couple getting engaged on the top of a skyscraper during a gorgeous sunset in NYC. And, having Michelle Duggar, the Mom, ask me to sing "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" after discovering I'm a "Princess" (owner of Princess Parties Virginia), too.

This is the painting that Jeremy's parents, Chuck and Diana Vuolo, made, based on Proverbs 31:10:

And here is Jana Duggar and Joy-Anna Duggar's work of art:

This is the "cartoon" that Jill and Derick Dillard made for Jinger and Jeremy. Facial features are difficult, so they didn't add any. The Dillards also said that the beauty of this painting is that it can age along with the Vuolos, since you can't tell how old they are.

And this picture of the Vuolos' New York City rooftop engagement was done by Michelle Duggar and Jinger Duggar....

Ben Seewald's painting of a coffee cup can be seen in the group photo above. Jessa Seewald, who admits she isn't much of an artist, stayed in the car with Israel Dillard and Spurgeon Seewald while they slept.

  1. I thought that was a fun, random thing for them all to do. Thanks for the close-ups of the paintings!

  2. WHAT? A couple kissing on a rooftop before marriage? It isn't done! That must be Michelle and Jim Bob in the picture.

  3. This looked like a lot of phone. I appreciate hearing from Ms. Rebecca about the experience.

  4. According to Creative Studio website, they charge $30 a person. I see at least 10 in the Duggar party. That's $300 to paint those simple pictures. Who has that kind of money? Not the average reader of this blog. The Duggars are losing touch with their fan base.

    1. Tlc pays for it

    2. Being on tv pays good, no one denies that. Nowadays it's a legitimate mean to support your family. I don't think the Duggars would be able to support 19 kids and their family otherwise, with just "normal" jobs.

    3. The website has a special going AND according to website TLC contacted Creative Studion last summer asking if they can film there. So it's quite possible TLC paid for their admission which I have no problem with. Also Rebecca painted kissing couple.

    4. Creative Studio probably gave them the session for free, in exchange for the exposure. Or TLC paid for it, as usual. I'm sure they had to close the studio to the public for this special session.

    5. While $300 is a lot all together, $30 dollars for each person individually doesn't seem unreasonable to pay for the supplies.

    6. Good point, but maybe they got a group rate?

      Delete
    7. They are millionaires, like it or not. What is a measly $300 to a millionaire? They can well afford these special outings. But I bet you, TLC paid for it anyhow. It gives TLC something to film.

      Delete
    8. They are wealthy, what's wrong with it?

      Delete
    9. If each person paid $30 themselves it's not that expensive. Sounds like a good time. I'm glad they had fun and have the paintings to look back on. Good memories!

    10. Since the families are paid employees it makes perfect sense for TLC to pay for their session. I do hope that TLC provides good health insurance though for the stars of all their shows.

  5. That faceless painting is kinda spooky. Will it age as they do? Or will it go all Dorian Gray? (cue spooky music)

  6. That's very good artwork. I'm afraid all I can do is stick figures! The faceless Pastor Jeremy and Jinger remind me of the faceless Amish dolls I have. I'm glad they got to do this.

  7. The faceless picture was a bit on the strange side.

  8. How would Michelle know that song from Cinderella?

    1. From her past. There are hundreds of movies that I saw as a child and would never show my children example: titanic with Leo, has porn in it. Many parents don't think of this or even pay attention to what there children are viewing.

      Delete
    2. They've been to Disneyland many years ago when they had about 16 children at the time. I'm sure she heard it then.

      Delete
    3. Because she doesn't live under a rock and has probably seen the movie. Yes I know the Duggars don't watch a lot of mainstream stuff, but they have said they watch some approved videos, and what could be wrong with Disney?

      Delete
    4. well I assume that her little girls play Cinderella and practice having a pure and kind heart?

      Delete
    5. Titanic has porn?? Where? You simply see a naked woman, nothing more. We have been made by our Creator with bodies to be on this Earth, so I don't understand why we should be so scared of nudity. Our bodies are what allows us to interact with each other, which is a good thing.

      Delete
    6. Nudity in films is not family appropriate, sorry. I believe nudity brings lustful thoughts. How is that healthy? BTW, I am not the same person who wrote Titanic is porn. I just believe in wholesome films, with everybody's clothes on!

      Delete
    7. Especially in that scene when they are depicting the body as art.

      Delete
    8. Yes, it is porn. You are correct when you say our bodies were made by our Creator. However our bodies were made to be shared "naked" within the marriage covenant. Any nudity outside of the marriage convenant leads to lust, which cannot be righteously fulfilled. That is why the Bible says "It is better to marry then burn with passion". 1 Corinthians 7:9

      Delete
    9. The reason not to see Titanic is because it was a schaltzy movie, not because of nudity. Besides, who wants to see a recreation of such a horrific event with so much heartache and suffering? When you know something depicted in a movie actually happened, it's not fun to watch, IMO.

  11. I love the pictures for Jeremy and Jinger home. I love hearing about your family. Best wishes to all the new additions to the family

  12. They made a lot of family memories and I am so glad they included Chuck and Diana. That just seemed like a very bonding, welcoming event for both families.

  13. Wow, is everyone In that family talented...great job on the paintings y'all.

  14. That umbrella girl is positively depressing. I thought at first it was a black and white layer cake that someone had left out in the rain, like McArthur Park. But now that I see it up close, it's a girl with no face, head, or arms, standing in the mud, as toxic looking black rain falls on her. Art is the window to the soul??

    1. Wow, that's harsh! I thought it was a job well done!

    2. If you look closely she definitely has arms and a head. In paintings like that it's hard to make out certain features.

      Delete
    3. Jana and Joy let out their most secret desires... They like eating cupcakes in the rain

      Delete
    4. Drama much? :))) It's just supposed to be a cute decoration and they're not professional painters, so I wouldn't see more than that in it...

      Delete
    5. That one was my favorite! I think it's beautiful and open to interpretation. We see what we want to see in art.

      Delete
    6. All I see at the top of the stripes is a chicken? That's an odd painting. I don't like the colors, either.

      Delete
    7. Guess this goes to prove "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I think it is beautiful.

    8. It's kinda dreary.

    9. Gasp...This was one of my favorite paintings

      Delete
    10. I like the umbrella painting too. I like walking in the rain with my umbrella. Not everyone is an artist and for amateurs I think the pictures look pretty good. Way better than I can do.

  15. I certainly hope Jinger and Jeremy do not feel they have to use those in their home. The thought was kind, but let's be honest...looks like pictures a child would do in 8th grade art class. Maybe they could tuck them away in some sort of hope chest with wedding memorabilia.

  17. Boy, Jana's painting is quite telling. The colors she used were depressing ones, not bright happy colors at all,, IMO. Also, this girl has no face and no feet. Obviously, she can't run and is anonymous. Poor Jana. If you notice, the other paintings were cheerful with cheerful colors.

    1. That one is bleak and sad. :(

    2. First of all Jana and Joy did this picture together. Second I think you are projecting your own feelings about what you think Jana's life is like. There is really no evidence that she is not happy with her life.

      Delete
    3. Huh? Are you some kind of "arm-chair" psychologist or something? If so I don't think you are very good at what you do. Really your diagnosis sounds like you are out of touch with reality. Give it a rest you people, Jana is FINE!!!!!!

    4. Hahahahaha. Did you see the part where they picked from samples on a table? The part where they picked it because it reminded them of Jinger???

  18. I don't see the point of someone receiving so many home made paintings. Where would they put them in their home? Way too many and it's also a frivolous thing to do. I'm sure the family didn't pay for this.

    1. What else wholesome could TLC film them doing out of town? They already had ice cream and tried on bridal gowns. Not like they were going to go clubbing. Although I'm sure Ben would have enjoyed that, since he's so into rap music.

    2. There's nothing wrong in doing frivolous things from time to time.

  19. They say that you shouldn't give art as a gift to someone because it is a very individual taste and preference. Goes to show you, the Duggars don't hold any individuality or boundaries for JINGER and JEREMY'S apartment. It should be filled with things THEY choose. I understand they meant well, but who needs that many homemade paintings?

    1. I sure hope J&J didn't feel obligated to hang those. Next week, don't they all go decorate a new apt. for J&J? As you said, no boundaries. Su casa, mi casa...

      Delete
    2. How do you know it wasn't Jinger's idea to do the paintings? The whole trip was for Jinger to pick out her dress. She may have wanted art that was personally made by people who love her.

      Delete
    3. I can't believe, or at least hope, the family really expects them to hang those. I'm sure it was just a fun activity. If it were me, I would lean them up against the mantle for just awhile, then move them to a hallway or storage room.

      Delete
    4. Who is "they"? Think we ought to check that out sometime, just to make sure "they" actually know what they are talking about.

    5. 1:04PM -- I think we understood the comment. It's risky to buy decor for another person's home. I know I don't have the same taste as my friends, so would never buy them home decor.

  20. My favorite is the one Jana and Joy-Anna did - the girl in the dress with the umbrella. I would hang that one in my own house.

  21. How fun! My favorite is the girl with the umbrella.

  22. How all of them so artistic? They painted those all by themselves without a template or any help from an artist who works there? No explanation as usual.

    1. During the episode, the staff member said there were some examples to choose from, ones she had specially laid out for the Duggars. There were photos to work from and completed examples of paintings others had done. They did not knock those out from their imaginations. Also, a staff member there said she could help paint the two faces, but "not in an evening," so they left them blank & made up that "aging along with you" story.

  23. Art is a very personal choice. Receiving these paintings from family members would make it very awkward if the newly married couple is not comfortable with displaying them in their home.

  24. So many negative, judgemental comments. It was just something they did for fun! Lighten up people!!

  25. I personally love the one of the girl with the umbrella. I'd put that one in my kitchen. So artistic! :)

  26. I would definitely put those paintings up in my house. I love art painted by amateurs, especially that done by family members. They may not be Van Gogh or DaVinci but it warms my heart to have their artwork hanging in my home. If guests don't like it, that's their problem.

  27. The faceless painting was hilarious and so was Jinger's reaction to it.

  28. Dear Ellie and Lily,
Have touched the old classic movie called 'The Belle of New York?'? I saw it for the first time yesterday. The similarities to Jinger and Jeremy on engagement day are incredible! The New York skyline wedding theme is part of the movie to the very end. I wonder if it is an amazing coincidence, or if some studied persons in the TLC writing department used this movie as a prototype. If you have not seen the movie I am talking about you are missing a great one!

  29. Spell check converted you watched into touched. I don't know exactly when these changes occur.
