Counting On "Bachelor Pad Makeover"
- Jeremy Vuolo recently moved into a two-bedroom apartment. The Seewalds, Jason, and Joy accompany Jinger to Laredo to help decorate and organize. Jana graciously offers to help Michelle hold down the fort back home.
- “It’s going to be so sad having Jinger move away,” says Jana. “It’s so much further than just being down the street. But hopefully we will get to make many road trips and get to see her really frequently.”
- The group checks 11 bags because Jessa packs a bunch of items for the apartment, as well as tools for decorating.
- Joy, who is flying in from a conference in Wisconsin, arrives early and helps Jeremy shop for a gift for Jinger.
- Jessa, 20 weeks along, says this pregnancy has been different than her first pregnancy, which makes her wonder if it’s a girl.
- “I’m not sure how much input I’m going to have,” says Jeremy, as Jessa begins sharing her ideas. “I get the sense that a team is coming down to decorate the apartment.”
- While Joy takes a nap and Ben studies for his college classes, Jeremy, Jinger, Jessa, and Jason head to a furniture store. They purchase a living room set, and Jim Bob and Michelle gift them a kitchen table.
- The following day, Jessa heads up the decorating. All the siblings agree that Jessa is a taskmaster. “It sounds so harsh, but it’s really not harsh,” assures Joy.
- Jeremy has several book shelves that Jessa says must be relocated. “When it comes to my books, they really are the front and center décor in the apartment,” says Jeremy. Jessa puts one of the shelves in a closet.
- “Most men should learn, what we think is non-negotiable is a bit more negotiable than we thought it was,” says Jeremy, laughing.
- When Jinger pulls out Jeremy’s jerseys to hang on the walls, Jeremy jokes that Jessa is probably going to hang them in the closet. Jeremy is very insistent that his Rembrandt painting be hung up, so it ends up going above one of the couches.
- When it’s all said and done, Jessa says she won’t be offended if Jinger and Jeremy choose to move some of the decorations and furniture around.
- “I cannot wait for the day when we do not have to say goodbye at the airport anymore,” says Jeremy, as he and Jinger share one last hug before Jinger returns to Arkansas.
- Back in Arkansas, the Dillards enjoy a family workout. Jill bikes with Israel on the back, while Derick jogs alongside. During the run, Derick’s gag reflex, something he has struggled with since childhood, acts up.
- The Dillards visit their family physician for checkups. They find out that Israel is doing very well and is ahead of the pack in height and weight. The doctor recommends Derick visit an allergist. When listening to Jill’s heart, he hears a noise on her carotid artery. He orders an ultrasound of her neck to make sure there is nothing serious going on.
- As a wedding present, the Duggar brothers search for a car for Jinger at an auto auction. They don’t end up finding the right car that day, but Joseph buys a small boat. He hopes to use it for one season and then resell it.
- “I’m really going to miss Jing,” says Josiah. All the brothers agree.
Derrick should asked to be checked for myasthenia gravis. He has the symptoms and his Dr. Didn't have a clue on tonight's episode of counting on. Love the whole family. God Bless
ReplyDeleteDid you Google that doctor?
DeleteThat was a rude reply to Laura's comment. Most of us know someone who was misdiagnosed by a doctor at one point or another. I think her suggestion was helpful.
DeleteNot funny, Anonymous. My 92 yr old neighbor developed Myasthenia Gravis (no, I didn't Google it-I used something called research skills and spent some time researching her symptoms). Her very nice doctor had no clue, nor did her 60-something daughter. They were from the generation that just trusts your doctor and never asks questions. I shared what I knew, and asked to accompany them to the doctor. I pressed for them to seek a referral to the No. 2 Eye doctor in the United States (excellent doctor, very thorough all day testing, very compassionate), but it was way too late to help her. She passed away a few months later-she'd lost the ability to swallow and wasn't a candidate for a feeding tube. While I agree that sometimes internet research can lead to fearful self-diagnosing, your doctor is not God and sometimes you & your doctor may not be communicating as clearly as you think, and sometimes doctors miss things...they're only human.
DeleteI believe the 1st reply was asking if you googled the doctor in the episode. Not sarcastically calling you a doctor who diagnoses from google searches.
Delete9:43 - My comment isn't helpful to Derick, more like an "Oh, really, comment, but I first heard of MYASTHENIA GRAVIS years ago. Read that actress Ann-Margaret's husband Roger Smith has it. He's still alive today at 84 years old.
DeleteI also read it as "did you Google the doctor" - meaning that particular doctor.
DeleteDerick does not exhibit or complain of any symptoms of MG. He has a droopy eye and mouth that could easily have been a result of nerve damage during jaw surgery. He doesnt have muscle weakness or shortness of breath, unsteady gait or inability to swallow etc. The gagging reflex is not associated with MG as he suffers it after exercise, a common problem. With regards to the doctor in the clip, he is a basic practitioner, who due to previous sanctions involving his drug problem, is not permitted to prescribe anything stronger than blood pressure pills or antibiotics. He is one of their clique as his wife is a doula who has run birthing classes amongst them. I'm sure the clip was just material for the show as any serious medical testing would naturally be private
DeleteJust wondering what MG symptoms you believe Derrick is exhibiting. My dad has has MG for about 35 years. His started with a lazy eye and muscle weakness. Sounds to me more like blind acid reflux.
DeleteI would also like to suggest for him to be checked for Achalasia. They told me for 8 years it was GERD/Acid Reflux, gallbladder problems. None of these were the problem. Finally diagnosed properly when it got to the point where hardly any food made it all the way to my stomach in an orderly fashion.
DeleteIt absolutely requires a medical diagnosis.
Symptoms include a backflow of food in the throat (regurgitation), chest pain, and weight loss.
I experienced pain in the chest (food was stuck)
Gastrointestinal issues like heartburn or regurgitation.
Closer to the diagnosis was I having difficulty swallowing, difficulty belching and weight loss. I always felt like there was a ill stuck in my throat. Turns out there usually was. I take medicine for blood pressure and thyroid twice daily. The pills would get stuck and eventually dissolve and pass through. It was however very hard on my body. High-resolution esophageal manometry test is done while swallowing water to see if your esophagus has enough pressure to push the food down. By the time my test were taken I often could not keep water down. Had to drink slow and steady.
My thought is when you go jogging and this food has now turned to fluid as it sits in your esophagus then comes right up with exercise. I had a Heller Myotomy and Fundoplication. Took a few months to eat normal food again but I am as good as gold. I hope this can help in any/some way. God Bless!
Carotid artery*
ReplyDeleteI just loved the show tonight and I'm praying that Jill is okay and that they find out what's wrong with Derick. Love Jeremy and Jinger's appartment, Jessa did a great job fixing it up. Can't wait to see them on the show after they were married, they are so cute together and I can't wait to see Joy and Austin together. Praying and hoping that one of the guys or Jana is courting, I sure hope she finds that special someone, can't blame her for waiting for the right one. A life time together is a long time and that special someone by your side makes it a great life together.
ReplyDeletethanks for doing the recap ellie!
ReplyDeleteJessa heads up the decorating? There's no way I would have stood for having my sisters dictate something so personal as decorating my home.
ReplyDeleteI hope Jeremy removes that bookshelf from the closet and finds a prominent place for it. Hopefully, this episode was just TLC concocted storyline.
Does Derick have asthma, triggered by an allergy to mold or dust? That's good that he's going to see an allergist. But he did say it started in 11th grade, so it's probably not asthma because the doctors would've diagnosed it.
ReplyDeleteNot to be mean but it is "carotid" artery, not corroded!! Hope all turns out well for Jill & Derrick. He needs further testing I think. A shave & haircut would help too. Too much time on decorating in the episode!!
ReplyDeleteDerick should probably try gluten or dairy free, or both. I know many think gluten dairy free is just a fad, but in alot of cases it helps. Sometimes even with symptoms that seem unrelated. What you put into your body affects everything. I hope this helps :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! He should be tested for Celiac Disease and various food allergies as well. I cannot have gluten, dairy or soy. If I do, I feel extremely ill.
DeleteI completely agree with a food allergy test. I would suggest ordering a test that checks both the Ige and Igg antibody levels in his body. Food allergies present themselves differently in every body. However, not all food allergies result in an instant anaphylactic reaction. An accumulative reaction (Igg) builds up in your body and slowly creates layers of symptoms (runny nose, drainage, skin issues, ear pain, soar throat, joint pain, fatigue etc, etc.) Even if a food allergy test (blood test) returns with some false negatives, I would try an elimination diet to see how you feel.
DeleteJessa won't be offended if Jeremy and Jinger rearrange her work? Maybe Jessa should have left well enough alone and let them decorate their place themselves. Really this whole exercise was silly and a gigantic waste of money. 11 suitcases/bags? I'm sure Laredo would have all the things that were needed. Just another episode of Jessa being bossy.
ReplyDeleteI got that from her too. Let Jeremy put his painting where he wants to! At least let him have that :)
DeleteI'm sure Jinger asked her to do it I don't think Jessa woke up one day and said "I think I'll redecorate Jeremy's apartment"
DeleteDecorating is not my thing either and we're buying a house pretty soon so I think I'll have to get someone to help me decorate.
they asked Jessa to decorate for them! she was only doing what was asked of her! come on the negativity on this blog lately is getting ridiculous!
DeleteI disagree, Jessa is a bit bossy even her sibblings sort off said so... It did seem a bit pushy to me.
DeleteWhy so many episodes on Jinger and Jessa. They next to are on Jinger too. It won't be until the season finale until we see Joys courtship! What a shame
ReplyDeleteAnd how exactly did her artery become "corroded"? From too much pickle juice? (It's "carotid.")
ReplyDeleteLOL Pickle juice! ;)
DeleteDo you know how much it costs to check extra bags these days?! Probably would have been cheaper to ship everything down there in advance. Or send it down with the film crew, who probably drove their equipment and people there ahead of time so they could film the plane's arrival. Remember, this is the shoestring budget family! Or so they keep telling us.
ReplyDeleteI fly a lot. A second bag is $25-35 on the major US airlines. There were 6 of them traveling, so no one had to claim more than 2 bags (the cost goes up for bags beyond 2). They may fly enough that checking the first bag is free (once you have enough miles in a year, you have elite status, and your first bag is free). Regardless, it's usually cheaper to pay for the second bag than it is to ship the contents, based on my experiences of having done both.
DeleteHow did you count 6? Jessa, Ben, Joy, the J brother, and Jinger = 5. Spurgeon was on a lap without a seat of his own. Five checked bags and 6 extra baggage fees, if not excess weight surcharged, too (never did explain if Jessa got everything down to weight limit). Six times $25 is $150, the very minimum extra they would have paid. That's a good 10 boxes at $15 a piece, shipped AK to TX (pillows aren't heavy). They could have each taken a suitcase with clothes and the most breakable stuff (they were only there a weekend), and shipped the rest. Or sent it with the crew. Or supported the Laredo economy and bought stuff there. I'm sure they have pillows and sheets and white towels in Laredo. Does this family think things through like that?
DeleteI fly a lot, too, and I ship things to my destinations so I don't have to struggle with extra bags and extra car space. But then I don't have a film crew following me around, picking up my tab.
"Jana graciously offers to help Michelle hold down the fort back home." No, after the fiasco of decorating the "guest house" for Derick and Jill's return, I think Jana preferred not to clash decorating opinions again with Jessa. Or "the taskmaster," as they so sweetly called her.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Could you imagine the 2 of them start arguing on the show? I guess if it happened, they would edit it out.
DeleteIs someone living in the upstairs hallway of the Duggar house? There were little kids' clothes hanging all over the banister, next to a changing table. Is Anna still living there? Or living there again?
ReplyDeleteSaw that, and had the same reaction! What? Who? That camera shot was totally unnecessary, yet included in the show anyway. To generate questions?
DeleteThat doctor is the husband of the doula who was there for Jessa's delivery. But there's more to the story. They should have their own TLC show. It would fit in with TLC's lineup.
ReplyDeleteInteresting couple, at least what I read.
DeleteI'm quite shocked how little the Dugger family cares about classics and especially books.....moving a bookshelf into the closet, Rembrandt ....Hopefully Jinger will change with Jeremy
ReplyDelete"Jana graciously offers help...", is that a joke? Poor poor Jana.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very disrespectful of Jinger and Jessa to put Jeremy's books in the closet. That was the only item he said he cared about.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly
DeleteJeremy said a part of him died seeing his books in a closet. I understand the Duggars don't appreciate education or reading, but really at the very least Jinger should have told Jessa to back off and bring his books back out. I can't imagine putting something my husband loves so much ( all his military memorabilia) in a closet. I don't think "rude" is strong enough. It was actually callous of Jinger and Jessa to laugh about it.
DeleteSo true.
DeleteI would NEVER let anyone put my books in a closet!
DeleteSmiled when I read your comment, 2:03, as I sit here in a room with my husband's Navy stuff hanging on the walls.
DeleteI'm pretty sure they said that they put ONE bookshelf in the closet, not all his books! I have a gazillion books, and while I would love to have a dedicated library room with enough shelves for all my books, we just don't have room for that. Yes, some of my books are in the closet. Jessa was just moving things around to make the best use of space.
DeleteThe reason they put the books in the closet was to create more space in the living room because Jeremy frequently hosts Bible studies there. There were a lot of books and the shelves did not match. It looks much better now. It's not as if Jeremy has to travel miles to see his books that are in the closet.
DeleteThat may have been a use of hyperbole by Jeremy. The books put into the closet were only a small percentage of the total books, and they will be easily accessible to him.
DeleteThose books wouldn't be accessible after Jinger moved her own stuff into that closet!
DeleteI hope Jeremy is man enough to desperate from the Duggar family fortune and fame. I doubt it though--to enticing.
ReplyDeleteI think they should have decorated alone after they are married. But I guess they are doing it tlc's way
ReplyDeleteThey are doing it "Duggar Way".
DeleteI had five babies, and every pregnancy was different (just like each child is different). I definitely don't believe that you can tell the gender by that. I enjoyed the episode, though. I thought Jeremy was a good sport as he visibly made the adjustment from living in his bachelor digs to accomodating the tastes of his bride-to-be. The place looked great when they were done! And how nice to find some good furniture bargains. I want to find one of those places and get a good couch myself. :)
ReplyDeleteJoseph is unemployed but he can buy a boat?
ReplyDeleteHis parents probably bought it
DeleteWhat makes you think he doesn't earn money? Being filmed is work, for one. He may also work on his parents or grandmother's properties. He may work for John David in his many heavy-equipment enterprises. etc. etc.
DeleteSo I guess we'll never find out what's wrong with Derick or Jill. Another TLC "tease" and then leave us hanging. They'll claim on their social media that everything is fine, and nothing more will be said. Jill is too young to have artery problems (and now she's pregnant again...). Derick could have acid reflux, causing the cough upon awakening and getting vertical. He could also have it from running & sloshing the stomach acid up into his esophagus. But I think there's more to his story than anyone is letting on. Gagging when running doesn't make you lose so much weight. He has become almost skeletal. That was not addressed last night. Where is he on the height and weight chart now, not just Israel??
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that too :(. I sincerely hope he is OK. I saw before and after pictures and he doesn't look like he used to. Poor guy! I wonder if it will come out later if there is something more wrong?
DeleteYes. I was hoping they would explore that instead, what's causing his gaunt sickly appearance.
DeleteDid anyone catch the show that was on right after Counting On, about the kid entrepreneurs? Those kids were very interesting to watch, especially the jewelry designer girl. Some of the parents were overbearing, though. But I thought what a juxtaposition, a show about grown kids who do hardly anything all day but run around having fun and spending money, then a show about younger kids who are working extremely hard at their school studies and their own businesses. See TLC? It isn't that hard to have a show with worthwhile content!
ReplyDeleteI loved the jewelry! I want to know where to buy it.
DeleteMost of this episode was unnecessary and it was a waste. Too much recap yet again.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
DeleteI loved the show. I look forward to watching it and watch the re run. Please TLC keep the Duggar on
ReplyDeleteFor the whole Dillard family's sake (and especially because Jill is pregnant again) I hope this doctor is not giving her prenatal care.
ReplyDeleteA quick Google shows he has had run-ins with the Department of Justice AND the DEA in regaurds to his medical license.
The wife was Jessa's midwife. And also had license issues.
DeleteWho is their doctor?
Deleteagain enjoyed the episode but TLC is being ridiculous by not featuring all of the family. jessa and jill story lines can go only so far. love all the Duggar kids but really miss the core of the show....Jim Bob and Michelle!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree!
DeleteWhat are john David Joseph Josiah Jed Jer And Jason doing these days? Six grown men. We see a lot of photos of them hanging around the house. How are they using their time?
ReplyDeleteDerick-- acid reflux. http://www.fauquierent.net/phlegmymucusthroat.htm
ReplyDeletehttp://www.livestrong.com/article/129828-heartburn-home-remedies-children/
Sorry, not the children article Derick but this one on exercise--http://www.livestrong.com/article/93038-exercise-acid-reflux/
DeleteDerick should consider a complete check-up at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
ReplyDeleteHow was Joy allowed to travel separately, alone, and be with Jeremy, alone? And unmarried woman and an unmarried man alone together? In Duggar rules, it isn't done!
ReplyDeleteThey aren't dating each other. It would be like being alone with your brother.
DeleteHe picked her up at airport..in full view of TLC crew....they were waiting for rest of family--decorating crew...to arrive....🙄
DeleteDerick should use a humidifier, drink lots of fluids especially purified water, swim, sauna and shower before he runs because he is only just loosening up the gunk in his chest right as he attempts to do a demanding distance run. If he used methods to water down and loosen and expelled that guk before he started a run that might mean his chest was cleaner and clearer for breathing g on the run. My opinion and thoughts not professional.
ReplyDeleteWhy do we have to read unprofessional opinions and suggestions about Dericks condition? It is really gross. Not interested in readers suggestions. Derick needs to see a specialist.
ReplyDeleteLove the whole family. I would like to hear about all the family. What about Jana's building? John David's house? How are Anna and the kids? What are the guys doing for jobs? Will Jinger have a job?
ReplyDelete
