Since Joy-Anna Duggar's courtship announcement last month, many of you have been asking about her beau, Austin Forsyth. Also an Arkansas native, Austin grew up in the country with his parents and sister, Meagan, running Fort Rock Family Camp, which the Duggars have visited multiple times.
In 2009, the Forsyths participated in an episode of the TV show World's Strictest Parents. (At that time, Meagan was 17, and Austin was 15.) With cameras rolling, the family took in two troubled teenagers, 18-year-old Tyler and 15-year-old Arielle, to show them what it's like to live in a home filled with love and mutual respect.
The results are incredible. In just a few days, Tyler and Arielle make incredible transformations, and they begin to thoroughly enjoy their time with the Forsyth family. When their parents arrive to pick them up, they are thrilled by the changes they see in their children.

I actually saw that episode of "World's Strictest Parents", and the only thing I can say is that this boy has been raised right.

DeleteI understand your warning but at the same time, seeing their behavior when they arrived vs their behavior when they left would help people understand how helpful this experience was for the kids.

ReplyDeleteI don't believe those wife swap & kid swap shows. I'm sure the results don't stick after things go back to normal. You can't undo decades of behavior in a single TV show.

ReplyDeleteI hope the relationship is healthy and for the right reasons. His family already posted image of Joy in relation to their family camp. I find it intrusive and inappropriate to capitalize on the connection.

I thought this topic was about Austin? All this article talks about is his family; albeit briefly.

DeleteHave Austin's parents had any contact with the children they were helping, Tyler and Arielle, since the episodes in 2009. I admire their parenting skills. The teenagers seemed to respond positively to the Forsyths.

ReplyDeleteMy goodness that is a weird concept for a show. I can't find words to express how crazy that sounds. I would not want my daughter becoming part of a family like that. But it's the Duggars whose daughter is courting him not mine. Thank goodness.

ReplyDeleteOddly enough, after watching the entire Episode, I realize that I'm actually jealous of them because I wish I had families like them. Which is why it is my dream to one day meet the Duggars face to face. Of course, I'm just waiting for God's perfect timing to take place.

DeleteI love curse words. I've being watching R rated movies since I was 5 years old. And movies that had nudity in them too my parents didn't care.
Delete@11:40 - My parents started taking me to James Bond movies when I was about that old. The original Bonds. I was in awe! Didn't negatively influence me one bit. In fact, I saw "You Only Live Twice" and taught myself the theme music on the piano.

ReplyDeleteNot so much as exposing them to another perspective and another voice of authority. Sometimes teens tune out their own parents, and they're more likely to listen to someone else who can connect with them on another level.

DeleteWorld's stricted parents reality show is a scripted, edited and contrived piece of misleading TV. One of our extended family members was in that show and the so called "wayward" teenagers do not cease the behavious that brought them there. It is merely scripted and filmed to look that way. Sure they might mutually agree that maybe they "could" emulate the righteous kids they get sent to if they wish, but they dont. Teenagers with real issues need professional clinical help, not a few days with a family who drive a different engine. Our niece is grown up now, has put teenage stuff behind her. Not because of her 4 days on a farm, but because of the 19 years of love and persistence from her family. Like any television, particularly reality TV, you see about 10-12 minutes of heavily edited, scripted scenes.

DeleteAnon@11:34 The person you responded to did not say people don't ever change, but rather pointed out a niece did improve after growing up and maturing with the love and direction of family. Emotional and behavior problems in young people are complicated, can benefit from maturity, and often require professional clinical guidance, not a stint with a "strict" TV family.
DeleteIs there a way to see the videos that you posted from their website? Its saying its unable to retrieve the videos. I've never seen that show and would love to see Austin's family on it.
