Josie Duggar Turns 7

Seven years ago, Michelle Duggar gave birth to Josie Brooklyn Duggar via emergency C-section after a life-threatening diagnosis of Preeclampsia. Josie was born at 25 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound 6 ounces. Soon after her arrival, the Duggars relocated to a rental home near the NICU in Little Rock.

The world was inspired by Josie Duggar's story, which doctors said was nothing short of a miracle.
Happy 7th birthday, Josie!

Do you remember hearing about Josie's premature birth seven years ago? Were you a reader of our blog back then?

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOSIE BROOKLYN DUGGAR! MAY GOD BLESS YOU WITH MANY MORE YEARS OF LIFE!
No. I didn't find out about the Duggars until November '13. I remember praying to God constantly whenever I saw little Josie every time I watched the Episodes about her. I'm very thankful that God has turned a preemie into an energetic fireball!
Merry CHRISTmas all the way from Ecuador!

  10. Happy birthday Josie!
I remember watching the episode and my heart went out to the duggar family. There was NOTHING scripted on those episodes. All the emotions were real and raw. I am so happy to see Josie thriving and growing and becoming quite the young lady!
Thank God for modern medicine and the advances they have made over the past 40 years. My brother was born at 26 weeks and was not strong enough to battle the complications. My niece was born at 28 weeks and defied the odds and is a perfectly healthy albeit small vivacious teenager.
Praise the lord for Josie's health and praise the lord for the doctors who helped her live!!!

  11. I have to wonder that if Josie had not survived, how the Duggars would have rectified that with their conscience. It would have amounted to terminating a pregnancy to save the mother.

    1. Don't wonder, at that moment they had to make a decision, but they prayed to the lord and put their lives in to his hands, our Lord new how much this family needed this beautiful angel in their lives, and how much this mother was needed at home and both came home, that's all it matters and look at them now, seven years later!!!
      Bless the duggars πŸ’•

    2. Yes, I've wondered the same. Obviously I'm so happy Josie is doing great, but they did choose to save Michelle's life over the baby. So...how can they stand on their moral high horse when others choose the same...with sadly very different outcomes?

    3. Ending that pregnancy all but guaranteed that Michelle would survive (preeclampsia would be over for her), but it sure put little Josie at a tremendous risk which she might not have been able to overcome. I thought all moral decisions and outcomes like that were left up to their higher power? The Duggars and the doctors intervened with their own decisions in this case. Yet the Duggars remain vehemently opposed to anything that might end a pregnancy. You would think that after what happened to them, they would have more compassion for other women who have difficult choices to make when things go wrong, and I mean anything a woman or her doctor deems as "wrong."

    4. 10:37, Maybe other women also pray or meditate or whatever before they make their decisions, too. Don't make it sound as if any Lord is playing favorites with certain people and not with others. What about blessings for ALL women making their own decisions?

    5. The are vehemently against ending a pregnancy until it was Michelle's life that was in danger.

    6. @10:37. How unkind your words are. According to your statement my husband and I just didn't need our 3 "angels" ( yes, 3 of our 5 children died) in our lives? Or husbands/children who lose their wives/ mothers to disease or accidents didn't need them in their lives? its been many years but I still grieve for my children because I so badly wanted them in my life. What a naive and offensive thing to say.

  12. Happy Birthday Josie from my mom and I.

We were watching the Duggars when the birth episode showed. It was so hard to watch. She's a miracle. Prayers really do work.

  14. Don't let your kids go to college to get degrees, but depend heavily on those who did go to college and get degrees. How can the Duggars justify this?

    1. This is about Josie's birthday and not about whether their kids go yo college or not.

      Delete
    2. LOL -- I've never seen anything that said that "they don't allow college". It looks to me as if these kids have more freedom and choice than your "generic, everyday" kids.

    3. That's like saying that someone has has never worked in a cotton field but is still allowed to wear clothes. Or has never owned beef cows but still eats steak.

  15. I still remember the episode of Josie's birth. I didn't know Jesus then. But after watching that episode and accepting Jesus, I started praying for the Duggar family.

  17. I was living in Arkansas at the time, about one hour from the Duggars. I remember hearing about it the next day and being surprised but not too concerned, I had no idea how serious of a situation it was. It wasn't until I saw on tv what actually happened that I realized how scary it all was. I'm so glad both Michelle and Josie are still with us and thriving.

  21. So help me God...Yes I said the G word, if anyone says one uncouth, classless, mean-spirited, thing about this innocent child, I will scream.Josie a a very smart, bright and beautiful little girl who should have nothing but the best this life has to offer as she almost didn't have a chance at life, we are blessed to have herπŸ˜‡HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET JOSIE πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‚πŸ°πŸ˜Š

    1. No one has posted a negative comment on the child. By the way, whether Jossie Duggar is smart or beautiful or bright is beside the point. There is no need to qualify the wish for a long and happy life for this young girl. One should wish the same for every 7 year old girl in this world, irregardless of her start in life or who her parents may be.

    2. If u read the post correctly you would see that I said... IF...Maybe take the time to read it properly ...as it was just warning to probable and usual disgruntled folks who litter up the innocent posts for their oh so important"opinions".Merry days y'all πŸ˜‰

    3. @11:22. Your opinions are not any more valid or important than anyone else. In fact you are the only one on here who is disgruntled..wanting to start a fight for some reason. The Word of God warns against those who cause strife. Life must have beats you down for you to be so antagonistic, and for that I am sorry. I hope your days are Merry in the truest sense of the word.

  26. Oh wow! Can't believe she's 7! She was so tiny when she was born. I'm glad to see her doing so well. Happy Birthday Josie! :)

I've only started reading this blog in the past couple of years but it's cool that you've been going for so long. :)

  27. Let's talk about the elephant in the room. Why are Jill and Derick not back on the mission field? They've been home since August, and said their "short visit would extend into the Fall". I donate monthly to their mission and feel wronged at the moment. I support several other missionary families, some living in much worst conditions than the Duggars, and have never seen any of them returning for 4-5 months.

    1. I would stop supporting them if you are unhappy or in doubt. As you said, there are needier causes in the world where that money would make a true difference.

    2. Stop donating to their mission.... problem solved.

    4. Quite a few missionaries I know of come back to the states for various reasons for months at a time. Don't you think their missions site would be a better place to ask this question instead of hijacking a little girls birthday wish?

    5. They have a Mission Site? Anyone have a link? Or are you referring to SOS?

  29. Happy Birthday to Josie. However, I just can't help but wonder why the Duggars are so secretive about her special needs since she was born so prematurely? That is something that has always bothered me.

    1. They could be talking about a lot of things and helping other parents in the same situations. It's not just Josie's problems they've kept quiet about.

      Delete
    2. What makes you think Josie has special needs?

      Delete
    3. Josie has a seizure disorder, but nothing else has been spoken about.

      Delete
    4. She doesn't, she is so smart...seizures do not qualify as the special needs some are hinting at...not cool peeps😐

      Delete
    5. If Josie does have "special needs" - which there is no indication of - and they DID talk about it, there would no doubt be people criticizing them for exploiting their child's privacy.
