#FlashbackFriday Michelle Disciplines

We hope y'all are having a wonderful day. In honor of #FlashbackFriday, we have an old Duggar video to share. It was filmed in 2008, when Michelle Duggar was pregnant with her 18th child, Jordyn-Grace Duggar.

The mom of many attempts to do an interview with Discovery, while keeping toddlers Jackson Duggar and Johannah Duggar quiet. Filmed more than eight years ago, this video clip will give you a behind-the-scenes look at Duggar discipline.

  1. I'm deeply impressed of how patient Michelle is for her children. I wish I had a motherly figure that has the patience Michelle has. #LoveTheDuggars. #StillLoveJAD!

  2. Thank you for posting this, it is funny. I can't believe how fast the kids grow up. Those two were such a pair always getting into things.

  3. That was a horrible waste of energy and she had absolutely no management of her toddlers. Letting the girl off her lap to run free after that behavior was just horrible and then rewarding the other to provide a lap.
I didn't see any discipline or lessons to respect and have patience. The kids ruled.

    1. I have to agree with you. I thought the whole point of that blanket training they do was to avoid situations like this?

    2. Michelle is one of the most loving patient mothers I've ever seen. I think she did a fantastic job teaching and mothering her children!

    3. Whether it's call blanket training, boundary training, bubble zone or borders, it's not 100% effective 100% of the time. Blanket and Boundary training tend to be more about behaviour in public, whether it's visiting someone else, church, a grocery store, library, or an attraction.

  4. Michele does come across as a very patient mother, especially with her soft voice. I guess one of the most important things I learned as a parent and elementary classroom teacher is that distraction can work miracles. With my own kids, I would have a special surprise bag that I would take out only when my attention was required with something else, like a phone call or visitor. There were crayons, coloring books, modeling clay, and inexpensive things like a Magic Slate or Wooly Willie. I would periodically change it up to keep interest. (Nowadays, of course, there's always technology.) There's nothing more exhausting than trying to keep a squirming and vocal toddler on your lap when they have other ideas!

  5. Y'know this video is real life. Not blanket trained children.

  6. PATIENCE THROUGH THE ROOF!!!!
I'm praying God will give me more patience with my little ones.
I'm slowly but surely getting there!

  7. Why does she have to talk in that little baby voice? She even talks to the older ones like that.

    1. She has said it gets their attention when she lowers her voice. Plus it sounds better than a harsh voice or blowing your top, like I can't seem to help doing.

  8. Wow, I think those kids could have used more discipline than Michelle was giving them.

  10. Did Michelle and Jim Bob ever spank their kids when they were little?
Did Jill and Derick ever spank Israel, and did Jessa and Ben ever spank Surgeon? I think kids need some kind of discipline so that they know whose in charge and if they misbehave and their parents tell them that's not acceptable and if the kids doesn't listen and Twitter what he is doing, then I would suggest a spacing, or a timeout and let the kid sit there for 2 minutes if the child is 2, 3 minutes if the child is 3, 4 minutes if the child is 4, and so on and so forth. I've had to do it before with the kids that I babysat, but I didnt soank tgen before, I just gave then a timeout for awhile, and then I explained to them why they were on a timeout, and then after that I have the child hugs and kisses, and then we continued to play! LOVE you DUGGARS!

    1. So the only way to discipline your children is to spank them?

  11. They didn't show blanket training. Wonder why?

    1. If they did, other people might complain it's either too harsh or just plain boring to watch that on the Show.

    2. I'd like to see that, too. I've heard so much about it.

    3. They don't adhere to traditional blanket training, they leave that spanking out of it...yes another misconception...the list is endless...yawn

    4. They've never done blanket training 100% by the book. Also, if you have done blanket, boundary, bubble or border training, when there are older children around, it's harder to do because the siblings want to be together.

  12. What was the point of having that child sit on Michelle's lap? They both didn't fit properly on that chair in the first place. The little girl (don't know which one she is) didn't want to be there. Why force her?

  13. We need to stop to feel guilty ! There is no perfect parent ! And the Duggars aren't

  14. It's pretty clear on the show that Johannah and Jackson were both outspoken and high energy toddlers/children. Michelle stops to give them both guidance in their behavior. She attempts to have them both sit still for a little while, which is a difficult task to do. This situation didn't warrant stronger disciple than what was given. Michelle is right that raising your voice doesn't really help the situation a lot of times. I have realized with my 2 year old that once Mommy or Daddy raise a voice, we all start to. I have learned a lot from Michelle in her patience and way of disciplining. "Teaching" is probably a better word for it than "disciplining."

  15. So, so patient and sweet. She's a wonderful mommy! I just had to keep laughing!
