Counting On "Duggars at the Altar"
- The show starts off with footage from the days leading up to Jill and Derick’s wedding. Their engagement has been less than three months, and they are thrilled to be tying the knot, but the occasion is bittersweet because of Derick’s mom’s recent cancer diagnosis. (Two-and-a-half years later, Cathy Dillard Byrum is now cancer-free!)
- On the day of the wedding, Jill and Derick arrive at Cross Church for final preparations. The soon-to-be married couple is thrilled to find out that Cathy will be able to make it to the ceremony.
- After Jill’s mom, sisters, Grandma Duggar, Aunt Deanna, and cousin Amy gush over her beautiful dress, Jill heads outside to do the first look. Then she and Derick spend a few minutes with Cathy before the festivities begin.
- Jill walks down the aisle to an amazing wedding march performed by Erin Bates Paine. “I think I have probably the hardest job in the wedding, and that’s actually to give my daughter away,” says Jim Bob before he and Jill enter the sanctuary.
- After agreeing to their traditional vows, read by the pastor, Jill and Derick each recite the following and exchange rings: “I pledge here and now, this solemn vow. With this ring, I thee wed. With loyal love, I thee endow. So long as I shall live.”
- “Saying the word ‘kiss’ is awkward,” says Johannah. “Saying the word ‘kiss’ is not awkward,” Jackson chimes in. “Only if you do it, now that’s awkward.”
- Fast forward four months, and it’s time to watch Jessa Duggar tie the knot with her sweetheart, Ben Seewald. The mother of the groom, Guinn Seewald, pulls off a beautiful, shabby-chic rehearsal dinner for about 200 guests.
- After a delicious meal, Jinger gives an emotional maid of honor speech. “She has always been there…in my lowest points,” says the future Mrs. Vuolo.
- The next day, the Duggars follow a similar schedule as they did at Jill and Derick’s wedding. However, Jessa and Ben decide to skip the first look and wait until Jessa walks down the aisle to see each other.
- "I think every time I witness a wedding...I always go back to the day when Jim Bob and I stood at that wedding altar and said 'I do,'" says Michelle.
While this was nearly if not 100% old footage, it was nice to see all of it again. 19 Kids and Counting was such a great show. While I'm grateful to have the Duggars in the form we have now, I still have to say I miss having the entire family on the show every week. In any case, I can't wait for the next two weeks. It always puts a smile on my face watching these weddings, they are always so focused on God. It really makes my week.
ReplyDeleteGod bless yall
I'd rather see Jinger getting gown, etc. Still, some sweet moments.
ReplyDeleteBet that's next week's episode.
DeleteShe will be pregnant before we see the wedding that already happened.
Be patient. They're banking on that stuff to give them another season, so the well won't run dry.
DeleteI see where Jingers (JinJer) wedding is this Saturday! Spurgeons birthday! That will be "new" footage. May have to wait til next season though. Oh well, praying for the best for JinJer!!
DeleteSsshhhh...it's all a big Duggar secret!!
Delete9:39, you're correct, unless everyone is purposely spreading mistruth. I can't imagine so many Godly people doing that.
DeleteNot even a hint of new content. Yawn.
ReplyDeleteUm really all dads give their daughters away when they get married what plantet are you from
DeleteJim Bob! Your daughters are human beings! They are not objects to "give away!"
ReplyDeleteStop being so literal! To give the bride away is a tradition at almost every wedding. Obviously it does not mean to actually give the bride to her new husband but merely symbolizes her moving from her childhood family to making a new family with her new husband.
DeleteYes, but you should realize that the preacher in weddings usually says, "Who gives away this daughter to be married?" or something to that extent. I mean no offense to whoever posted the thing that I'm replying to. I just thought I should point this out:-)
DeleteIn the Duggar family, a wedding day is "transfer of authority" day. We've heard this right from the authority himself. So yes, their brides are given away.
DeleteSuch fun memories to revisit. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI have stuck behind this show even through all of the trouble--this not letting fans know when Jinger's wedding is is crazy--They want their wedding different--well if you don't want people to see it take yourself off the show--this is a reality show that has a built-up fan base and there needs to be some loyalty to that--and I am tired of recap after recap
ReplyDeleteHow about a little thing called PRIVACY!
DeletePrivacy? The Duggars want privacy now??!
DeleteIt's unfortunate that this was not a new show. Does TLC realize we can watch reruns if we want to?
ReplyDeleteI love the Duggars but TLC just doesn't listen to us the viewers. We are tired of telling them over and over again to stop showing us old footage. It's like they want the show to crash and burn 😧
ReplyDeleteI loved the original show. I fast forward through Counting On. I get bored watching the same things over and over.
DeleteTotally old footage. TLC isn't even trying any more. They've got to stretch it to make Jinger's wedding be Season 3. They just won't give up, will they?
ReplyDeleteBoooooring episode!Cancell the "show" now,please!
ReplyDeleteLol, then you r u watching, lol😋
DeleteWas disappointed that the entire show was a recap.Saw the weddings, and they were beautiful. But don't need to see them over and over again.
ReplyDeleteWaist of my time!!
ReplyDeleteIt's WASTE not waist!
DeleteWaist of time, waste of time, waist of thyme, waste of thyme...who cares? It all means we didn't need to see those recaps.
DeleteI wish I didn't have the waist of my time. I wish I had the waist of my former time, like when I was 12 or 13... :)
Michelle, not cool to correct spelling.
DeleteWhat a waste of time this "episode" was. How many times do we need to see the same old things? I wasn't interested, sorry to say. I think if Jill knew then what she knows now, about how unhappy she is with the "missionary lifestyle", she wouldn't have married DerickDillard. When she was reciting her vows, her voice was that of an 11 year old. Did anyone notice that?
ReplyDeleteDid Jessa wear shoes at her wedding? I couldn't tell..her gown was a bit too long to see.
I think it was always Jill's desire to be on the mission field. That's what brought her and Derick together in the first place.
Deletemissionary is not for married couples w/ young childern on board the main thing derick really needs to put this aside for later date after his child has a chance to grow and explore the normal childhood stuff going to school all that fun stuff
DeleteMisson work is for whomever is called by God. It's not our decision to make.
DeleteAnd next week will be more old footage about Jinger...
ReplyDeleteWhile both weddings were nice, I tuned out after 1/2 hr. the reason I hung on was I hoped to see something about Jinger. TLC- there was no reason to recap- these girls had their time. If Jinger wishes privacy-there are 16 other kids-surely they have something interesting to share.
ReplyDeleteTotally.....not interesting. Time for TLC to get rid of the Duggars and move on to a new subject. Their time has come and gone.....
ReplyDeleteWhy the need for such secrecy about Jinger's wedding date? Don't their "dear friends and fans" have any etiquette? They simply should state that this wedding and reception is by specific invitation only and to please NOT show up to view the ceremony as there is limited space...that's all it would take.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the difference between Jill during her courtship and wedding and seeing her now is very sad. She seems upset and vulnerable, like the spark has gone from her eyes. I agree with others that the missionary lifestyle doesn't agree with her, although there could be other factors too
ReplyDeleteAGAIN with the reruns! Or rather in this case, packaging a rerun into a new episode. TLC has been showing more and more of the same footage over and over again. The weddings are nice and all but I think I must have seen them like 5 times at least! If TLC doesn't have enough new content to show in a regular episode then they need to change their format and maybe stick to specials or reduce the number of episodes. It is SO frustrating that they have so many viewers telling them that they are tired of the lack of new footage and yet they won't do anything about it
ReplyDeleteShare memories? They've only been married a short time, not decades. Sounds like TLC needed something to fill airtime, because everything else lacks substance.
ReplyDeleteTLC is phoning it in. Why didn't they just post a video of kittens or puppies, and it would have been more fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteAs long as there is no sledding or dog bathing, that would be good!
DeleteIt was nice to see this episode. I commented before watching and I still think TLC should stop showing old footage but I enjoyed watching either way.
ReplyDeleteLovely episode...to be fair to the ladies running thwe blog, they did warn us that it would be a recap
ReplyDeleteI agree with almost everyone else. I fast forwarded through this episode, it was a complete re-run. While I still love this family the show's format has lost me. I'm so bored seeing recap after recap after recap. Even the last 3 minutes of a segment is a foreshadowing of what's after the commercial break. So boring!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the NEXT wedding recap! And the one after that...
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but haven't they already done a couple recap episodes on the weddings?! If there's nothing new to show just don't bother having an episode that week
ReplyDeleteAnother recap on Jill and jessas weddings? Is this the third it forth time an episode like that has accorded. And next week will be another recap on Jingers courtship. I'm sure there are heaps of things to film (like how Josie's doing and Anna) so why all the old fotage?
ReplyDeleteCan Jill stop with his bad it is over in Central America. She has armed guards and a secure house. Is she really doesn't like it then maybe she needs to return home
ReplyDeleteI do wish they had shown us some wedding planning for Jinger, but I guess if she wants to keep it a secret, that's certainly her right. Sigh . . . It was fun to see the other beautiful weddings again, though.
ReplyDeleteEveryone the Duggars know is headed to Arkansas for this weekend...
ReplyDeleteWhere are you reading this supposed fact, that the wedding is supposedly this weekend, and that supposedly "everyone the Duggar's know is headed to Arkansas this weekend" ??
DeleteIf you doubt this, just wait til the pictures come out later today or tomorrow.
DeleteFunny how so many "just close friends" are on their way to the wedding this week. That guest list seems bigger than what Jeremy & Jinger wanted us to think.
ReplyDeleteThey're having it in a church that holds 900.
DeleteEnjoyed the show. I'm what the next one will be as far as new content.
ReplyDeleteNo mid-day updates from Ellie. She's probably on that long drive to Arkansas. It has been confirmed that the wedding is this weekend. Another invited friend of the family spilled more beans. This is the worst kept Best Kept Secret of the year.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like everyone the Duggars or the Vuolos know is headed there and posting about it, families in tow. So much for the "small" wedding Jinger wanted. Another fairy tale?
DeleteWho are these "invited friends" that you speak of, that "spilled more beans"..where are you finding these facts? And where has it "been confirmed" that the wedding is this weekend?
DeleteVuolo family has been on their way for the last 2 days, driving and flying. Cathedral is being set up Friday. Holds 900. It's happening.
DeleteI've seen the invitation. Flowers at the top. Date at the bottom. Nobody is making this up, if that's what you're implying 12:34.
DeleteDrive to Siloam Springs if you don't believe it.
DeleteI.R. to Duggar weddings;
ReplyDeleteI just wanted say "Congratulations!" to Jinger on her engagement. Her young man seems to really be a blessing from the Lord. They seem so in love it is just precious to watch them together. I hope they have a very long, happy & loving life together in the service of the Lord!
Why did the Duggars try to keep this wedding such a big secret.? It's not really like them to keep something this quiet, they usually want to boast about everything they're doing. Sorry Jinger it's not working, some of your guest are letting the cat out of the bag.
