Ben Seewald's football camp turns out to be a smashing success. With help from Jessa, the Duggar siblings, and a handful of guys who have played college and professional ball (listed below), he is able to welcome nearly 70 kids. The final event of the day is a flag football tournament, with the "coaches" stepping in as quarterbacks (video below).

Where are all the girls?
ReplyDeleteA smashing success? All I saw were a bunch of kids running around getting sweaty, and then some man talks to them using vocabulary words they probably didn't understand to try to tell them a message that looked like it flew right over their heads. All the kids wanted to do was play.
ReplyDeleteHow did a once-and-done event like this change their lives in any way? I thought that was the goal of this, to make a difference in a kid's life. Seems you'd need to have this be a series of events, like a Big Brother program, with a lot more time invested than a single day. A "camp" is usually what you go to for many days, not just one. The whole thing was odd, and knowing this show and what they do for filming, suspicious. What did this camp cost? Was it free? How was it advertised? How were the kids selected? Did the parents know in advance about the filming and the preaching? Lots of details left unexplained last night, as usual.
Not to mention, they said 70+ People were there, but almost 20 of them were Duggars themselves. There wasn't a scene where at least one Duggar family member was there!

ReplyDeleteEveryone looked hot and uncomfortable. You can see people fanning themselves in the background. Who picked that stifling hot venue? That was not smart.
ReplyDeleteIt's Arkansas in the summer, after all!!! Our football kids practice in the late summer, in the heat, in the northeast! Just the way football is timed!
DeleteThis was not football practice for school, which has to be done in late summer, it was some special "camp." By the amount of sweat on those t-shirts, I was amazed no kid fainted.
DeleteBen is continuing to surprise me. My first impression of him was of a timid kid but he has proven me wrong. He followed through with his plan to reach out with kids after talking with Flame and truly made at attempt to enrich their lives through sports. Way to go Ben, I'm impressed!

ReplyDeleteThey didn't explain that or anything... Where it was advertised, who was invited, how much it might have cost, who is actually behind "Life Champs," why this "camp" was only one day, etc. They should have explained more, not just make it look like it was Ben's idea and Ben paid for it. Also, he talked about wanting to serve "at risk" kids. It was never explained how that criteria was met. But being involved for only one day in the life of an "at risk" child, does that make any difference? How does that pull them out of risk? Again, not explained. It would have been more profound if we had understood where this program came from, not just watched a bunch of kids and a few former football players run around and get hot. They (TLC) blew it.

DeleteI'm so glad that the football camp was successful. Hopefully, it will become an annual event. Kids need good role models and fun activity in a safe environment.
ReplyDeleteIt should be a daily or weekly event to really make a difference in a kid's life. Once a year, like Halloween or Christmas? No.

DeleteI'm pretty sure tlc paid people to be there. Paid actors is thing for reality shows so it woukd cross my mind that they did. I mean who wouldn't want to use someone to advertise their organization?
DeleteI loved this episode. I thought the camp was so inspirational. It was encouraging to see how God used Ben and the other coaches to minister to the children.
ReplyDeleteI like this show. And I admire the Duggars. I really do. So I hope no one will think I'm anti-Duggar. But any football camp my son attended helped those interested to play quarterback. I was so surprised that Ben was quarterbacking. I think it's something he wanted to do so he created this camp to give him the opportunity. Next time I think some of the boys need to try quarterbacking too.
ReplyDeletePlease, please....it is a sin to knowingly mislead someone. "Ben Seewald's Football Camp"? Really. We have looked this group up and it is an already established thing. Ben didn't invent this activity or "found it" either. He actually did quite little to bring this already established camp.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. Lying is a sin, and to say this family stretches the truth is an understatement. This is not Ben Seewalds camp. Ben is a volunteer to an established camp that he had no part in forming. But I guess it's normal for this family to claim to be and do what they are not and have not done. ..
DeleteThe point wasn't that he created the camp. He initiated the camp with volunteer's within that community and did so with a football friend.

The ladies running this blog mean well and don't intend to mislead the reader. I've seen the introduction to a feed phrasing confusing or excitingly embellished. Their hearts are good and if you watch the show regularly you understand.
He didn't initiate anything. As the first person already said, this group was already established. All he did was put together bags and take credit.

ReplyDeleteDidn't get recognized? They are the ones who put the tournament on!! Tlc also paid for everything. Sad how tlc is stretching the truth and how the duggars just play along.....
Ben seems a nice guy but I didn't get much out of this segment. I think a RELATIONSHIP with kids at risk is important like big brothers/big sisters. Not sure a one-time camp accomplishes anything. Seems to have been the idea of tlc as a time filler?
ReplyDeleteI agree, 9:49. At this point, anything done on this show is suspect. TLC is not doing a good job of telling the truth or making the D kids look genuine.

ReplyDeleteI love the Duggars, but the show is becoming so repetitive. They repeat what they're doing about 5 times before they actually show the segment. The girls are now decorating what appears to be the same house Jill and Derrick lived in before they left for Central America. Another Duggar girl is swooning. I'm interested in what is happening to them, but this repeating everything over and over with very little new information is making me lose interest in the show. I love the Duggars, but the show is bothering me.
