Dillards Coming Home SOON

The July short-term missionaries sent by the organization that the Dillards are serving with are wrapping up their time in Central America, which means that Jill, Derick, and Israel Dillard will be back in the United States very soon! The family of three is returning to Arkansas for a temporary stay that will extend into the fall.

The Dillards have been on the mission field since last fall, when they returned for Jill's midwifery exam, cousin Amy Duggar's wedding, and a number of other commitments. (Click here to see photos from their farewell party.)

They have been blessed to enjoy visits from various family members, including Grandma C, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, James Duggar, the Seewalds, and a handful of the other Duggar siblings. However, there are a quite a few Duggars whom the Dillards have not seen in nearly 10 months.

During their time at home, Jill and Derick Dillard will work remotely with their ministry organization, partner with local ministries, and expand their knowledge through Bible classes.

There will also be plenty of excitement as the Dillards help Derick's brother, Dan Dillard, and Jill's sister, Jinger Duggar, prepare for their upcoming weddings. Dan Dillard is engaged to a gal named Deena, and Jinger said "yes" to Jeremy Vuolo's proposal.

  2. I wondered if both weddings would be in the time that they're home. Maybe even the same weekend, lol. I guess we gotta stay tuned.

  3. I think that as a parent, I would make the little kids put down the sharp stick (the very kind that could poke an eye out), get away from the truck (where they'd never be seen if someone went to move it), and get away from whatever substance is in that can (hopefully not poisonous), before I got out my phone to take a picture. Why is nearly every picture of Israel a disaster about to happen? Gives me chills!

    1. Let the "helicopter parents" comments begin, but I completely agree with you, 3:42! We've seen too many unsafe pictures since he was born!

    2. As a parent I'm sure you can tell that the children are not playing unsupervised. Whoever took the picture is obviously watching them. Therefore if someone wanted to move the truck the children would be moved out of the way. In the same way the would be prevented from coming in contact with the can in the background. The sticks the little girl is holding probably should be taken away but I really don'the think you can characterize the situation as a "disaster waiting to happen".

    3. People....it is a twig that the little girl has not a stick! The parent taking the picture is just a step behind him! Obviously non of you live in the country! I would rather my kids be outside playing with "twigs" than be inside playing video games and watching TV!

  10. Oh my, little children should not be allowed to have sticks like that! That is scary.

    1. I agree, 10:39am! One quick move, and she would have poked that right into Israel by accident! :-O

    2. Oh brother! You folks need to spend more time in nature and quit being so paraniod.

    3. Maybe other folks need to spend more time in the ER of a children's hospital and see what really goes on with accidental injuries. Not approving of sharp pointy objects in the hands of a toddler is being paranoid? I don't think so!

    4. Oh, my goodness!!! A child playing with a stick!!! Horrors!!! I wondwr how the rest of us ever survived...

    5. Actually, some kids almost don't survive. My neighbor's son accidentally stabbed his brother in the gut when they were both playing around in the kitchen & one turned around quickly as the other was moving with a knife. Scared the entire neighborhood that day. I'll never forget it. And their mother was "right there," as some of you always claim Jill or Derick to be when scary pictures are posted. Why chance trouble?

    6. Lol it's a stick not a knife. Big difference.

  12. Please give us some updates on cousin Amy!!!! She is a breath of fresh air!!! I miss her!!!

  13. They are literally standing behind him! He is not standing behind the truck alone. He is next to it with them right there. The little girl is not theirs and the stick is not aimed at him so a little hard to take it away from her and I doubt he can make it to the container and drink from it before they stop him...

    1. That sounds exactly like what a parent says to a doctor when trying to explain an injury. "It happened so fast and I was right there with him!"

  14. I wasn't going to comment but my goodness! They are two children, the stick was pointed down. Haven't you played like that? If you are looking for danger everywhere, try watching the news. Then you may understand danger.

  15. What kind of job allows employees to take off for months?

  16. It looks like the only serving that the Dillards have done was to help out SOS with their facilities for visitors. I also find it strange that they have never explained Derick's surgery, the result of it and his quick decision to leave this country so soon after his own procedure and the difficult birth that Jill had with Israel. They are grossly open about their personal, private moral beliefs, show births on TV, talk about their marital relationship (which is personal and private)but avoid explaining their actions about these things which are plain for everyone to see and notice the drastic change in Derick's appearance..which I believe viewers are genuinely concerned for him. The Dillard's vague responses to these still leave a lot not addressed.

    1. I agree with you, 7:40. They just don't seem to "get it." It's almost like standing naked in public but then not even talking about the fact that your clothes are missing!

    2. I agree, too. Derick's teeth are severely askew after this surgery, and fans are concerned that he is receiving proper medical care.

    3. I agree with 7:40. Derick looked quite healthy when they met and got married, and then suddenly Jill had this difficult delivery, then Derick got his mouth surgery done, and then then moved out of the country in just a few months. Derick lost so much weight and his teeth look very strange now. Jill does not look real happy on pictures. It just does not seem like their life in El Salvador was happy. Or healthy. It would be really nice to know what's happening with Derick's health.

  17. May be that Jill wanted a life away from her family. And this "missionary work" is the only kind of work she is allowed to do. Jessa is still clinging to her family, and so is Josh. And Jinger will too after her wedding, iam sure.

    1. Jill is definitely still clinging. She never seemed to assimilate to the mission field. She missed her family and Skyped a lot. A big portion of the family went down to see her at one time or another, some more than once. She had things brought to her from home. (If you live abroad, you should live like the locals. "When in Rome...") Jill kept clinging tight to her American lifestyle and family. And now she's coming back. She's probably very happy for that. I don't think her heart was in being "overseas." I think it was Derick's wanting to get back to a life like he had in Nepal, before he was married, that made them leave Arkansas.

  18. So happy for them! Must be so excited all around!

  19. I wonder if they will be staying at the same mansion where they lived in the first year of their marriage.

  20. It is very common for missionaries to leave the field to return home on furlough to raise more support. The ones I've seen have been home for one to three months before returning back to the mission field. In response to Jill Skyping frequently, I think most any family that is separated. skype or use some form of video communication to keep in contact with each other. Welcome to 21st Century technology. As far as Derick's health, I agree that he does look frail. I pray God's blessings for their sacrifices in spreading the Word.

  21. Welcome home- their remarks about the child's safety..please remember when you had your first,it's all a learning process-don't judge by photos, they only show 1 clip..He is alive, healthy and happy. Doesn't that say something positive..Good luck on your next Journey for God!
