Cucumbers and Scavenger Hunts

We took the weekend off from blogging, so we have a couple Counting On extended scene videos that were recently released by TLC to share with you

Featuring Jana Duggar, John-David Duggar, Joseph Duggar, Josiah Duggar, and Jason Duggar, the first video is all about cucumbers. These five Duggar siblings share how they prepare one of the family's favorites snacks: cucumber slices with salt and vinegar. Jana also judges a cucumber peeling contest between the four boys.

If you've been watching the Duggars for a while, you've probably heard about their obsession with pickles and cucumbers. Check out our blog post from October 7th, 2013, to watch a cucumber tutorial made by the kids three years ago, and visit our recipes page to view Jason's "quick pickle" recipe.

On the season premiere episode of Counting On, which aired last Tuesday, Jessa and Ben Seewald babysit two little girls (video below). To test the usefulness of her new baby proofing equipment, Jessa leads the kids in a short scavenger hunt. Unfortunately, the girls successfully open the kitchen cabinets. "...So when they hit about five, you know that those no longer apply," observes the new mom.

Be sure to tune in to TLC tomorrow at 8pm ET/7pm CT for another new episode of Counting On

  1. So much for all that baby-proofing. Kudos to that clever little girl for figuring it out! Maybe she's had lots of practice before? In any case, smart girl. Maybe she can help Ben with the doorknob! :)

  2. They need to look online for better cucumber salad recipes. Dumping white vinegar and (a hefty amount of) salt on fresh cukes? No thanks. I make a decent salad by adding sliced green peppers and onions, then making a dressing of cider vinegar, oil, sugar, S&P, dill weed, garlic powder, turmeric, and mustard seed. Tastes like bread & butter pickles when done.

    1. That sounds yummy!! However, their recipe is quick and easy. I will try it just because it isn't time consuming and I like salt and vinegar and have those in the pantry. Thank you for your suggestion and when I get to the grocery store I will buy those ingredients I don't have on hand(dill weed and turmeric) and give yours a try.

  4. The cucumber video is so cute! I like the Duggars because they don't sweat things like putting in too much salt!

  6. My thought was if or not they would think to give the little girls a scavenger hunt and gift bags otherwise? The girls were thrilled, but they did not know the motivation was first and for most to use them as test dummies, their sheer joy was the deviant factor that made this test work. Basically that is life. But God does things with just our joy as His goal, I think.

  7. Whoever manages this page has got to seriously clean up some of the comments, and remove some people from this site. I thought this was a fan page, but the comments some make are lewd and disrespectful towards the Duggars.
I thought you said that you were friends of theirs. Please get rid of the trash. thanks
