He's so adorable, wish I could hug him!! These new boy babies sure do look like grandpa Jim Bob...........its a hoot!! Love for all Duggars!!

ReplyDeleteJessa is rushing him to stand and must have forced him to try to balance for that picture. At 5 months, babies do not have joints, bones, and muscles developed enough to stand, and should not be forced to do so. If Spurgeon were (by some miracle) up to balancing and standing (on a soft surface!) and walking, we would have seen rocking and crawling photos first, which we haven't. Also, he wouldn't have the skills to be able to get himself out of that position. Babies need to learn to pull up by themselves and then bend their knees and sit down from the standing position, or else they'll simply topple over. They learn by going up & down holding onto something first, to practice. Spurgeon is too young to have learned that already. You can see by the angle of his pelvis and legs that it is not a natural position for him at that age. I hope she isn't doing this to him all the time, for fun. The developmental milestone of standing should not be rushed.
Second, Jessa, like her sister, is using that baby seat wrong. It is never supposed to be anywhere but the floor, and definitely not on a raised surface like a table. This warning comes with the seat!
Most likely they propped him up in the baby seat for the photo. Whoever was taking the picture was right there and there may have been someone else nearby out of camera range. As for "forcing" him to stand, he is obviously being held up by Jessa in that photo. Don'the make assumptions about Jessa's entire child rearing philosophy based on 2 isolated pictures.
DeleteIt doesn't look as though he is being "forced to stand". He's just being supported while he stands. If he can stand (which obviously he can), then his joints, bones, and muscles are developed enough to stand! I have had five children, and they all had that ability to stand for short amounts of time at just a few months old. Their little feet push off the surface underneath them, and lo and behold, they're standing! When their legs have had enough, they sit! Not a big deal.
DeleteThey didn't prop him up in that seat just for one photo. Over & over & over again, they post pictures of Bumbo seats being used wrong. They have no idea how to use that seat properly. They're still sticking Izzy in his, and he's way too big for it now. He was in it, high up on a table, for his 1st birthday photos the other day.

ReplyDeleteI politely disagree with everyone that says he looks like baby dilly. He looks so much like Jessa. I also do not see grandpa Jim bob in his little face. He really encompasses his momma's features in my honest opinion. :) lol! It will be interesting to see if he starts to look like Ben as he grows. Sometimes babies will look like one parent one day and then overnight it's like they will change what parent they resemble. Our kids are 11 and 21 and so it is so nice to see all of the babies! :) Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, he doesn't look like Jim Bob at all: for once JB has small eyes, while Spurgeon has Jessa's big eyes! They could call him Jesso, since he is his mum's mini me. :) Cute baby!

Isreal is LONG and tall line Derick and I bet he is in the high 90's percentile. I don't know who he looks like but it's not Spurgeon .
Yeah ok all the photos finally loaded and in the very first picture his eyes and big smile kinda looked like Isreal but that may be a bizarre coincidence at least for Spurgeon I hope it is
