How is this kind of activity strengthening the family's claim that life is "so dangerous" where they are? And really, everything they've shown so far has not backed up that claim.
ReplyDeleteIt's clearly not dangerous--which is a good thing. They need to just stop trying to get ratings by claiming what a " dangerous" mission field they are working in. The deception is not good for their witness.
DeleteWhat? Do you want to see someone get hurt?
DeleteJosh & Anna were probably in more "danger" in the DC area.
DeleteUnless you've been there yourself and experienced it firsthand, why would you claim to know how dangerous it is? I think we should be careful not to make decisions out of ignorance and then voice them.
DeleteThere is nothing in the mission trip preparation brochure about danger, other than eating raw fruit and getting diarrhea. The only time they mention fear is in this encouraging sentence: "Don’t allow any fear to stop you from participating in the ministry; this is a chance for growth!"
DeleteAnd Ellie, please don't let people here call other people "ignorant." Maybe they DO know something others don't know...
There's nothing "Spanish" about saying "Mama" & "Papa" when you're a year old. That's what most kids a year old say. Jill should know this, having been around a lot of kids that age.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Jill was trying to say Israel was fluent in Spanish! After all, he's not fluent in ANY language. What she was saying is that lots of American kids call their parents "Mom" and "Dad" but Israel's ended up going with the "more Spanish" version - Mama and Papa!
DeleteJill, and all the Duggar kids call Michelle "Mama". Don't think it qualifies as speaking Spanish.
DeleteYeah, that's why it's funny...
DeleteShe says the locals say that it's Spanish not her.
DeleteIs there a reason you are reading this blog if you are so bothered by it that you need to critisize?
DeleteActually, most kids in the US say'mommy and daddy'. My husband is from El Salvador, and they say'Mama and Papa' with the accent on the latter syllable.
DeleteYou guys are wonderful I have watched you from day one my daughter 11 loves yinz to wish you could send her a picture
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw that segment last night, I wanted to tell the girls that "dangerous" is not when you don't know if you'll have a Skype connection or not..."dangerous" is when you kiss your loved one good-bye and you don't know if you'll ever see them again because they're in a uniform, defending our country....
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteI agree that your definition of dangerous is true. Also, I tend to think the Duggar girls would agree. Let me though try to put into perspective their definition.
My family is also on the mission field just like Jill and Derrick. And like them, we never know if we'll be able to make contact with family in the States. Sometimes it has happened to my family that we'll be talking smoothly, and next minute it will drop and not let us reconnect So...I understand completely that the Duggar girls aren't sure if they'll be able to talk to the Dillards due to internet problems or maybe there just isn't internet. Does that help?
Saying good-bye before a loved one goes overseas to serve his country is definitely hard! I can't imagine having the strength to do it. But I don't think the Duggars were trying to diminish that. . .Jill and Derek are also in a "rough" spot of the world. Danger happens in lots of different circumstances, to one degree or another.
DeleteWe are a Military family too...and have thought the same thing many times over. Thank You for your service and sacrifice--
DeleteMission work also can be dangerous especially when are not from there.....there are all types of situations that can be dangerous not just combat
DeleteOh please. Just because they do not have a loved one in the military does not mean that they are not allowed to miss their family members and worry about them, especially when there is a baby involved. Do not minimize other people's circumstances. They may seem trivial to you, but they are not trivial to them.
DeleteVery true!
Deleteso true
DeleteBeing in the military is dangerous. Being in Central America can be dangerous too. Both dangerous. Nobody was saying that it was dangerous because of a Skype connection.
DeleteWow! Sanctimonious much? Just because Jill, Derick, and Israel are not in the military doesn't mean that are not allowed to miss their family members and worry about them.
DeleteThe danger they were speaking of comes from the large criminal element in the area who are drug dealers and gangs. They have explained that many times and anyone watching knows that they are serving as missionaries and are truly in danger. This in no way diminishes what our soldiers face every day in defending our country. Anyone who has been following the Duggars should know that. This intentional misunderstanding of everything they do and say is so over the top it's totally ridiculous.
DeleteI disagree with almost everyone who responded. The Duggars are blowing this "danger" all out of proportion. They themselves go down there all the time, with their young children. If it were so dangerous to them personally, they wouldn't do that, would they.
DeleteFor all those condemning those of us who do sacrifice by our spouses serving in our Military--all I can say is wow. So very disturbing. We literally bury our family members for YOUR protection and you have the nerve to call us sanctimonious? You remember that when the next 9/11 attack hits and none of you are willing to serve sacrifice and die for this country.
DeleteGoing down there for a visit and going down there to live is quite different, now isn't it?
DeleteI don't think I saw ANYONE condemning military families. On the contrary, people were admiring them while at the same time pointing out that that isn't the only dangerous occupation in the world.
DeleteI really miss watching the Duggars. It was one of the very few shows my kids and I could watch together. I miss the kids, Michelle and Jim Bob and of course Grandma Duggar. How is she doing? Do you know Lily or Ellie?
ReplyDeleteI feel like things are slowly getting back to normal, I know the show is not the same, but life changes and so does their family.I for one am happy we get to see them at all...I'll take what we can get.My wish is that this new series is successful and then next season they slowly integrate Jim and Michell back in the fold.I really enjoyed the show...but I'm sure some watched just to nitpick and find fault somewhere. ..so sad...too bad. Looking forward to next week, blessings to allπ❤π
ReplyDeleteYes I agree. Many people just watch the show to see what they can criticize.
DeleteIf you can skype it's not really that dangerous. Let's stop trying to create drama Duggar Family for your "reality" TV show.
ReplyDeleteAnna looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky that we get to watch their family still. TV shows don't last forever...no matter how great. Was it reasonable to expect that 19Kids&Counting would last for 20 years? Probably not. It lasted for 10 years, which is remarkable. And every additional year that we get to watch them is just a gift... for them, as well as us. But, I must say, financially, the Duggar family should have been prepared for the day their show wouldn't be renewed. And hopefully, they were.
ReplyDeleteJim Bob and Michelle are millionaires (public knowledge) and get paid thousands per episode. They will be fine if the show wasn't going. I'm not saying they can afford to support all nineteen kids they whole life (like provide houses for kids like Josh jessa and jill) but will never have money problems!
DeleteIs there something going on that NO ONE wants to deal with the question does Israel have down syndrome? It's not a mean question. I have been a special education teacher for over 30 years and he looks like he may have some form of it. I don't see why you won't publish this inquiry. Maybe someone has an answer.
ReplyDeleteHe definitely seems slower to speak than other kids his age, and he seems a little slower in physical motions. I don't see Down's, but people have wondered, after the long birth, if he might have some sort of developmental delays.
DeleteI have worked special needs as well and have wondered but didn't say say as well. Beautiful child no matter what.
DeleteIf he did have a disability I doubt it's down syndrome. At least in my opinion it doesn't look like it. It's sad that people often think that's a mean question. People asking usually are just trying to make sure the child gets the help he or she needs.
Deletethink more inline of possible hearing impairment which can cause childern learning how to talk
DeleteIt sure looks like he has allergy issues or something else causing his eye areas to always look red or dark circled. I wonder what kind of pediatric care Jill has access to?
DeleteI haven't noticed he's delayed in speaking, but Israel is probably trying to talk both languages at the same time. I grew up in a both Spanish and English environment, and my parents say I didn't speak clearly till I was about 2. I also babysat for a family and their kids didn't speak till nearly 2 as well. As I and one other were told to speak English to them and they heard Spanish in the daycare. I would suggest you find all the facts about Israel first, before you judge.
DeleteSHE IS NOT JUDGING THE CHILD. Why can you not understand she is generally concerned for a child's well being?
DeleteIf it's so dangerous why are you taking 10 year Olds down there?
ReplyDeleteJust because there is "danger" in your area doesn't mean you're IN danger. My city has all sorts of crime (including gangs & drugs) but that doesn't mean I'm putting myself in the middle of it or making myself a target (although I do go to Target). Nor do I scare my family by telling them it's dangerous here, so if they can't get me on the phone sometime, they should be worried. The Dillards were probably warned about some things and that message stuck & is being replayed to their family back home. Either that, or going around trying to convert people who are already going to church will get you in trouble?
DeleteThe point is the Dillard's continue to act like they are in constant danger.
DeleteAnna is showing knees...good for her :-)
