Featured in last night's new episode of Counting On, this scene shows the tour that FLAME gives Ben Seewald of the inner-city St. Louis neighborhood where he grew up.

ReplyDeleteAs a viewer, it was obvious how uncomfortable and unfamiliar Ben is with physically being in Flame's old neighborhood. Clearly, Ben's sheltered upbringing and lack of exposure to various places left him looking very nervous.

Deletemakes no different how lucky the flame was as child growing up in this type of neigborhood. he was 1 of the few luck ones who make it out to better their own selfs in something highly pos in life. its too darn offen due to lack of a good education and ect anybody can fall into a trap of crime and wrost plus having a real sense of lost hope for the future. makes not one different in colour of skin and what ever chruch some may attend in their lifes
DeleteI grew up in Ferguson, MO, and I am still very nervous whenever I am in cities like Chicago of St. Louis.

DeleteBen and Jessa really ignored V. Rose (Vienna Rose Dare) during the show. They didn't greet her when they came into Flame's studio, and they all didn't even look at each other while there. In fact, Jessa seemed extremely uncomfortable with this other female. V. Rose is a Christian hip-hop singer, but has a very current look, with her bleached blonde hair, and tight clothing. Actually Michelle Duggar was more comfortable with Dolly Parton years ago than Jessa was with V. Rose in last night's episode.
ReplyDeleteThis broke my heart to hear Flame's testimony and see where he came from. I hope Ben can find a way to reach folks in cities like this. It's in his heart to help. I'm praying for him to find a way to be a beacon of light for those who need Jesus so badly.
ReplyDeleteThese people do not need to be preached at. What they need is opportunities for jobs and good education. What they need is quality housing, access to good nutrition etc...
DeleteAnd some of them need the Lord as well, just like people all over the planet - rich or poor. It is THE #1 need of all men, ahead of nutrition, jobs, or education.
DeleteThat was painful to watch. Jessa looked so uncomfortable, for so many reasons. Ben was not good. I applaud that Ben wants to spread the Godpel message. I don't think music or preaching are his gifts. I am so glad he pursues what he is passionate about but he has not come upon the right venue for him. I do hope he keeps looking for ways to "tell the story."

DeleteHe's not good at public speaking ( yet ) but he is amazing with the written word. At least he is trying.

ReplyDeleteNot all of St. Louis is like this. I grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis with very nice neighborhoods and low crime rates. It just depends on where you at.
