A few days after celebrating Thanksgiving, the Duggars kicked off the Christmas season by going caroling, one of their favorite holiday traditions. Check out these video clips of the super-sized family rehearsing with friends. (The lyrics to the first and third songs are pasted below.)
The song sung in the first video clip is a less familiar Christmas tune called "There's a Song in the Air," the words of which were written by American poet and novelist Josiah Gilbert Holland in the 19th century.
The second video clip features a snippet of "Sing We Now of Christmas," the English translation of a traditional French carol written in the 15th century.
In the third video clip, Jinger Duggar, who turns 22 this month, demonstrates her incredible piano skills by accompanying the singers on "O Holy Night," also a traditional French carol.
"Sing We Now of Christmas"
Sing we now of Christmas,
Noel sing we here.
Sing our grateful praises
To the maid so dear.
Chorus:
Sing we Noel!
The King is born, Noel!
Sing we now of Christmas.
Sing we here, Noel!
From the Eastern kingdoms
Come the wise men far.
Bearing ancient treasure,
Following yonder star.
Chorus
From the distant mountains,
Hear the trumpet sound.
With angelic blessings
On the silent town.
Chorus
Come let us surround Him
On this magic night.
Gather here around Him,
Wondrous Babe of light.
Chorus
"There's a Song in the Air"
1. There's a song in the air!
There's a star in the sky!
There's a mother's deep prayer
and a baby's low cry!
And the star rains its fire
while the beautiful sing,
for the manger of Bethlehem
cradles a King!
2. There's a tumult of joy
o'er the wonderful birth,
for the virgin's sweet boy
is the Lord of the earth.
Ay! the star rains its fire
while the beautiful sing,
for the manger of Bethlehem
cradles a King!
3. In the light of that star
lie the ages impearled;
and that song from afar
has swept over the world.
Every hearth is aflame,
and the beautiful sing
in the homes of the nations
that Jesus is King!
4. We rejoice in the light,
and we echo the song
that comes down through the night
from the heavenly throng.
Ay! we shout to the lovely
evangel they bring,
and we greet in his cradle
our Savior and King!

ReplyDeleteThey won't work on my phone. It will say it's trying to load and then say that it can't play it. :,(
ReplyDeleteLove it! I so miss going caroling. God Bless them!!! (also, "There's a Song in the Air" is a longtime Christmastime favorite
ReplyDeleteat my little country Baptist Church! Just beautiful)
I cannot get them to come up on YouTube... Could you help me with the link? Also is there a name I could look under on YouTube, Duggar Studies, videos, etc. I would like to put these from YouTube on my desktop. Thank you for any help!! Jinger has a God gifted talent on the piano! Great videos!

It seems Jana has care of Meredith in so many pictures. Are Anna & her four children living with the Duggars? Wishing the best for Anna......
ReplyDeleteI tried clicking on the videos and it won't let me view it
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely songs of Christmas! Jinger has amazing talent playing piano! Merry Christmas to your families!
ReplyDeleteJinger is really good! Love all of these sweet Duggar kids
ReplyDeletePost a video of Jinger playing a whole song. And if Jana could accompany on the harp, that would be awesome.
ReplyDeletethe babies in the Duggar family seem to be held all the time. :) All those hands to hold them! Holding makes a secure little one.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard these songs before. The first song says, "Sing our grateful praises To the maid so dear." Does anyone know what that means? Is the song referring to praising Mary?
ReplyDeleteYes it does as she is the Mother of God. " For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." Luke 1:48. KJV.
DeleteAmen! And through Mary we come to Jesus. As the Mother of God, we honor her and praise her, but we do not worship her. "Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus." Luke 1:42
DeleteRandom Question:
ReplyDeleteWhat do the Duggars call baby Seewald? Do they call him Elliot, Spurgeon, Quincy? Do they have a nickname for him?
Spurgeon, and his nickname is Quincy.
DeleteThe lyrics are widely sung as "to the BABE so dear". See the following two links:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.hymnsandcarolsofchristmas.com/Hymns_and_Carols/sing_we_now_of_christmas2.htm
http://www.hymnary.org/text/sing_we_now_of_christmas
But, there are several sources that also say "to the maid so dear", so it really depends on what you grow up with. Hope this helps. :)
We love "There's a song in the air" and there's something special in there, our daughter's name is Evangel so that "lovely evangel" in the 4th verse has extra meaning for our family.
ReplyDeleteI think they should call Spurgeon, Purge for a nickname or Spur.
ReplyDeleteMy phone won't let me watch them:( it says that it's loading and then it says that it can't play these videos:,(
DeleteI think the should go by Eliot while he's a baby. Or Quincy. Spurgeon is a pretty big name for such a little guy. But of course it's none of my business.
DeleteI vote for "The Spurgster" as a nickname.
ReplyDeleteI love the Duggar Family
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 6: An issue I have is that since Jesus honored his mother who are we not to honor her also? She is the vehicle who said "yes" to Almighty God and accepted God the Father's will for her and made Jesus' human entrance in to this world possible.God does not force Himself upon anyone who doesn't accept Him and His will for us. No one WORSHIPS the Blessed Mother, but look to her with honor, and ask her intercessory prayer, like an on earth prayer partner does, but they are in Heaven closer to the Almighty and Jesus than we are here. Also, I think it is a shame that Mary is forgotten by many until Christmas Eve then forgotten again for a whole year. Wouldn't Jesus be pleased if we were to honor His mother, who he loves so dearly? That is not taking away anything from the Supreme Being's worship, praise and adoration in the least. It adds to it. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI love your post! And I love being Catholic for the reasons you state with love and compassion. We don't worship Mary but we follow Jesus' example of loving and honoring her. It's too bad that those who aren't Catholic don't understand this teaching that came straight from Jesus Christ. This is the perfect time of year to learn about this.
DeleteThey should call him Elliot instead of Spurgeon because everyone knows the name Elliot
ReplyDelete"Minuit Chrétien" and "Noël Nouvelet" are French carols loved in the Catholic Church in France.
ReplyDeleteXmas is on our door step and I believe Josh is back home and has been for a while. Hoping he has professional help in order to protect his wife and children.
ReplyDeleteWaiting PATIENTLY for the new show...blessings😇
ReplyDeleteThe videos won't work for me... Says the link has an error...? An ideas? Obviously it's working for others.
ReplyDeleteOH, Jinger plays so beautifully! I wish the clips were longer. Thinking of you all during the Holiday Season and praying for wonderful things for your wonderful family. God's LOVE abounds!
ReplyDeleteStill wishing the whole family were back on TV. Prayers continue! Lois in Kansas
