Anna Duggar on Patience

We have another segment to share from our interview with Anna Duggar. (Click here to view our previous post.)

You always seem so patient with children. Is that something that comes naturally to you?

Anna: Being patient does not always come naturally. My children have their moments, and I have my moments. I am really thankful for the examples of my mother, mother-in-law, and husband; they are so patient and calm. When I feel that frustration rising, I remind myself to stop and breathe and pray. I ask God how He would handle the situation. If we humble ourselves and go to God for wisdom, He will be there to answer us.

There have been times when I have tried to figure things out on my own, but when we try to do things our way, it usually does not turn out the way we thought it would. You will never regret humbling yourself and asking for God's wisdom.

Patience is not something that we can fully achieve because there will always be those frustrations in life. But there will always be a perfect response, and it's not always easy to figure out what that is, but that is what we are working towards.

I am thankful for my mom because she really understood having a quiet voice. I am very loud and boisterous compared to my mom. She is just so meek and so humble, and she knows how to pray and seek the Lord. Each day growing up, unless I got up late, I saw my mom having her quiet time with the Lord and spending time in prayer. We are not always going to make the right decisions, but as a child, it was a great example to have parents who always sought to honor God and each other.

  2. Hi Lily and Ellie,
I love your blog thank you sooo much for putting so much hard work into posting new stuff about the Duggars every day. I was just wondering if Josh and Anna and family, Jill and Derrick and family, and Jessa and Ben will be at the Rocky Mountain Super Conference on the Family in Denver, Colorado June 18-20th 2015. I saw that they are going to be at the Alive Christian Music Festival on June 20th. I hope that they will be there because I REALLY want to meet Anna, Jill (and her baby) and Jessa.
    Thanks,
    Naomi

  4. Hmm. I'm not sure what to make of the
"Meek" vs. "Loud and boisterous". Not the most flattering terms to describe your personalities.

    1. It was a comparison between her meek and her mom's meek.

  5. You should name your daughter Melanie or Melodi. Melody for the first name and Brilynn or Brelynn for the middle name..... And for Baby Dilly should be called Colby Dillard

  6. Anna, you do appear very patient. Good for you! Coming from your own family into a super large family, moving states away, and moving again to a very different environment, marrying young, having kids right away, traveling constantly AND being a stay at home Mom---that's a lot! I felt for you in the last episode, traveling with only the film crew! God bless you and your beautiful attitude!!!

  8. Great post Anna! This is something I work on with my children ( 2 boys, 1 and 3 years). Stopping and praying is a great piece of advice in any situation that gets frustraing, especially really young children. Thanks for posting!

  10. Our family struggles with patience all the time especially in our children. We thank God each and everyday that through trying times of frustration we push through it and be slow to anger/ frustration. As Anna had mentioned, we need to take a deep breath and pray. God can help you through it. The better you control your frustration the less regret you feel and then an accomplishment is formed. Children are a gift and a blessing from God. Cherish each moment, your children feed off you and your attitude. Remember that you are setting the example. Smiles on children are so much better! And life is smoother to.

  11. Anna, you're an amazing Mom. I raised three boys and it was really hard at times.. And I must say too, that it takes guts to fly 3 babies on a plane.

  18. Anna is a sweet, patient person. I do wish she would speak up for herself in some areas though. I wish she had told Josh she was not going to wait on his mom when one if the boys was born. It would have been nice to see her be firm and say the birth was taking too long and she wanted to go to the hospital.

  19. I like Anna, too. I must have missed that part about Josh wanting to wait for Michelle when she was in labor. I wondered why they waited so long. Their kids are absolute dolls. Mackynzie looks just like Anna's mother, and Marcus looks just like her father.

  20. Thanks for the advice Anna concerning praying for God's wisdom when dealing with our children(ours are 21,18,9 and 8) - I'm learning more and more how to seek God in every interaction with each of our children. Thanks also for sharing how you also are tempted to get frustrated;after watching 19 Kids and Counting for years, I am always impressed by Michelle's "quiet, soft voice" and now yours as well-I've noticed it also when we get to see your Mom on the show. Each of you are such an inspiration and exhibit that "sweet and quiet"spirit that is precious in the sight of God. Thanks again for the encouragement and for being such a wonderful example for the rest of us Moms...:)
