19 Kids and Counting "Jessa Says Yes to the Dress"
- Ben Seewald's mom and sisters drive up from their home in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to go wedding dress shopping with Jessa, Michelle, Grandma Duggar, and the Duggar girls (minus Jill).
- The owners of Tesori dress shop admit they are not used to having such a large group, but they are thrilled to help Jessa pick out her dream gown.
- Ben asks the ladies to send him pictures of Jessa trying on bridal gowns, so Joy snaps photos of all the "ugly ones" and texts them to the groom.
- "I guess for me on my end, because I'm still parenting, [the time] has flown," says Guinn Seewald (Ben's mom). "But I know for the courting couple, I think it has been a long process. I'm sure they're quite ready."
- Guinn, who is giving away her first of seven children, asks Michelle for advice. The mom of 19 reminds her to remember to be joyful.
- When Michelle tells Guinn that she could be a grandma in just one year, Guinn is shocked. "Let's just handle the wedding," she replies, laughing. "Let's just stay right here. But that's a sweet thought."
- Ben wants Jessa's dress to be modest. "I get kind of jealous," says the groom, chuckling. "She's my girl."
- Michelle says Jessa wants to "get in, find the dress, and be done." Jill, who had her hair and makeup done during her bridal appointment, spent more time savoring the moment.
- Jessa ends up choosing a blush colored gown. She doesn't have time to order a dress online, so she is thrilled to find one at the shop. "I love that it has a little bit of sparkle to it, but not too much," she says.
- At the Dillard home, Jill tutors James, who enjoys spending time with his sister and her husband.
- Jill and Derick receive a homemade baby mobile from Josh and Anna. Over the phone, Michael tells the Dillards that he can't wait to meet his new cousin.
- Michelle and Jessa discuss mother of the bride dresses. "Well this is a very difficult year for Dad, giving two daughters away in the same year," says Jim Bob.
19 Kids and Counting "Bridesmaids and Babies"
- Jessa and Ben, along with Jim Bob and Michelle, head to the church where they will be tying the knot. Sierra, a family friend and Jessa's wedding coordinator, joins them. (Sierra also coordinated Jill's wedding reception).
- Jessa reveals that she and Ben sent out 900 invitations. "We're expecting a little bit of a smaller crowd than Jill had at her wedding," says the Duggar bride. "She had, maybe 1700 or something. We're probably going to have somewhere around 1100-1300."
- The ladies at the church are surprised to hear that the Duggars and Seewalds would like to use the church for both the ceremony and the reception. They end up having it outside in the church parking lot.
- Jessa asks Josh, who enjoys graphic design, to make her wedding invitations. He designed Jill's, as well.
- Jinger Duggar, who has been experimenting with photography since she was 14, takes Jessa and Ben's engagement pictures in front of an old church. Joy and Johannah come along to assist.
- "You had to be creative with showing that affection without a lot of hands-on," says Jinger.
- In the middle of the photo shoot, Jim Bob and John-David drive by and honk loudly. "When you have 18 brothers and sisters, there's a possibility that one is going to pop up somewhere at any given time," says John-David.
- When Jessa's bridesmaids dresses arrive in the mail, her sisters are a little hesitant. (Jessa chose the "Ellie" Modest Dress in Coral Rose, which costs $50 per gown.)
- Michelle steams the dresses before the girls try them on. Josie sings, "Here comes the bride, all fat and wide!"
- "I don't like them," says Jana, as she is trying her dress on. "Come out with your hands up," jokes Jessa.
- "It's a challenge to find a dress that will fit like 10 different people and look good still," says Joy. The girls agree that the dresses, which come down to the middle of the calf, are an "awkward length." Nothing that a few alterations can't fix.
- "When it comes down to it, if you really want to do something else, I'll just leave it with y'all," Jessa says. "You can return them all and order your own dresses. I'm not really picky. It would be nice if they stuck with the dresses that I have chosen, but I guess we'll see.
- Meanwhile, Jill and Derick have their first midwife appointment. Jill, who has been studying midwifery for nearly four years, is 12 weeks pregnant. "I've had a lot of experience in that area, but it's entirely different when I'm the one pregnant," she says.
- Certified Professional Midwife Joy Coonfield, as well as student midwife Debbie Query, who is a dear friend of the Duggars, will deliver Baby Dilly.
- Why didn't Jill and Derick choose the midwife Jill works with? They say they want to keep Jill's work separate from her pregnancy.
- Jill jokes that she has not been having morning sickness, but "all-day sickness."
Why didn't Jill go wedding dress shopping Jessa and the rest of the girls?
ReplyDeleteA good hint in the last paragraph of the blog. She is suffering all day morning sickness.
DeleteDuring the Bridesmaid dress segment with what Josie said, that was really funny!!! As for the dresses themselves, I would not have minded one bit if the dress length was a little bit longer than it was suppose to be. At least it fit within the Duggar Family Dress Length standards though. Jessa did make a good call with ordering them online though: 2 weeks as opposed to 2 or 3 months.
ReplyDeleteI loved these episodes. But why may I ask did Jill not join the ladies in finding Jessa's dress? Was it because she wasn't feeling good or was it because she had other priorities? I hope to hear an answer soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen you marry your priorities change. She began chauffeuring her husband to his work, going back for his lunch break and chauffeuring him back to the house at the end of his workday.
DeleteI wonder why Jill was not with all the ladies while Jessa was shopping for her wedding dress?
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't jill go with jessa to help pick out dresses??
ReplyDeleteI beleive that Jill was sweet to let Jessa have her own time!! She already had hers
DeleteI would assume that it was due to her morning sickness.
ReplyDeleteWhy does it matter why Jill didn't go with Jessa wedding dress shopping? She has other priorities in life
ReplyDeleteIt is thanksgiving season and that weird frill on the dress reminded me of the ornamentations on chickens and turkeys heads.
ReplyDeleteHow come Jill did not go to pick out the dresses?
ReplyDeleteIt does seem strange that Jill has not been present for Jessa's engagement and wedding dress shopping.
ReplyDeleteI'm frustrated because I don't have TV and I live in Australia. The only thing I want to watch is this show!! I miss it 😔
ReplyDeleteI have the same question as above: Why didn't Jill go with Jessa dress shopping? It seems like something she'd want to be a part of.
ReplyDeleteI love that she picked the blush dress. Even though it wasn't the traditional white, the color was perfect on her! I also loved Mrs. Seewald's reaction when Michelle pointed out to her that she could be a grandma in a year. :)
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else trying to watch it on XFINITY onDemand but it won't appear? It says that it's available onDemand on the website but it won't appear.
ReplyDeleteI like the dresses jessa but i would prefer them in black.
ReplyDeleteBut black is not apart of their colors…
DeleteI found that really strange, too. I have really terrible morning sickness, but I would try my best and go wedding dress shopping with my sister. I don't see how other priorities could trump that...
ReplyDeleteshe's married and pregnant and she doesn't have to go she was probably busy or had some mornings sickness
ReplyDeleteAll sisters came to pick Jessa's dress, eve little ones, plus Seewalds, but Jill did not come? It sounds strange to me. She did not want to help Jessa? Or since she is married, she feels like she is now separated from all this?
ReplyDeleteJessa is so efficient! It's unbelievable how quick she was making decision, picking bridesmaids' dresses, picking her own... She should be a business woman, not a stay at home mom!
ReplyDeleteI love the show but I wish it would show what it happening right now because jessa got married November 1, 2014 so they are way behind
ReplyDeleteI love the show but I wish they would show what is happening righ now like a live cam because jessa got married November 1, 2014 they haven't shown the wedding yet so they are way behind! I do get that it is a new season though so they had to wait to publish.
ReplyDeleteJill have no time for that, easy answer!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJessa chose our favorite one, too. Very pretty with the blush accent. As for Jill she was busy getting a sonogram and visiting and receiving advice and information for her pregnancey and delivery from the Midwife.
ReplyDeleteJoan,Marion and Marilyn
Maybe Jill was at her doctor's appointment when Jessa went to pick out her dress
ReplyDeleteI like the dresses and how they looked on them. I can't believe that Jana didn't like them!
ReplyDeleteHow much help does she need? Too many cooks.
ReplyDeleteDoes Jill have plans to finish her midwife training and become a certified midwife?
ReplyDeleteThat was cute of Joy to send Ben the ugly dress pictures. We saw Jana steaming the dresses...missed seeing Michelle doing it. Funny of Josie to sing that but who taught her that.... One of her fun loving older siblings?
ReplyDeleteHow long does it take to become a midwife? Just wondering as Jill is still considered a student, studying to be one.
ReplyDeleteThe sisters looked lovely in the bridesmaid's dresses, even though they beg to disagree. They look good in anything!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering the same thing. Why is Jill not involved in jessas stuff? no wonder tabloids are saying they were fighting
ReplyDeleteJana steamed the dresses I thought.
ReplyDeleteJust because Jessa is efficient and a good decision maker doesn't necessarily mean she should be a business woman. Those skills can certainly be used in the home as a wife and mother. Being an efficient homemaker frees the time for a family to do other thing, like serve the Lord.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it just didnt work out for Jill to go along. she could have been to sick or was busying doing something else. I also love what Josie said....lol!
ReplyDeleteLOVE Jessas dress!!!BRAVO for Jana voicing her opinion on the bridesmaid dresses!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agreed with Jana. I guess I'm not the only one who thinks mid length is just a real akward length, at least on me it makes me look short and stubby. That's why I only wear knee length and ankle length skirts. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that!
DeleteBusiness people can't serve God?
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to be disparaging and I don't know how else to say this without coming off as such but I was a bit surprised to see that James (at 13 years old) was not only still doing basic multiplication tables but also that he apparently needed help with it? My daughter (who loves the show and watches it religiously) is in the third grade and she remarked that James was learning the same stuff that she was. I know that home-schooling is different than public schooling but shouldn't he be years past this at this point and more into Algebra-type math? Maybe they mentioned this on a previous episode and I missed it so I figured I'd ask the community here and see if anyone could shed any light. Thanks!
ReplyDelete@ Susan -- The scope and sequence for some Homeschool materials vary from public schools. The materials the Duggars use are more mastery based rather than spiral. In lower grades, it will appear as if they are behind. By the time they are in higher grades they will equalize then pass their public school counterparts.
ReplyDeleteI homeschool and have used Abeka in the past. I tried Switched on Schoolhouse this year
ReplyDeletebecause the Duggars really like the program. I have to say that I hated it! My 8th grader was
done with school in an hour and a half, with Abeka it would take four to five hours each day.
We sent the material back and went back to using Abeka. S O S does not seem to do
a great job at teaching and is not enough material. That is my opinion and others may
disagree with me.
Susan- I was perplexed when I saw that as well. I don't think there's enough time for them to catch up with their public school counterparts if he's still struggling with multiplication tables at the age of 13. But you have to remember that the Duggar children are not going on to higher education so for them, their learning system and the pace of the learning is perfect for what they're going to be doing with their lives.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteTotally agree on SOS. I tried selected pieces of it with my kids when we were homeschooling and it is so superficial. We like depth and breadth so we ditched it.
@Susan - Des Moine
ReplyDeleteMaybe he has learning disabilities in math?
I don't think that is typical in any curriculum.
Back in my day (not that long ago) you didn't take an entire entourage shopping for your wedding dress. You took your mother, maybe your grandma. Sisters and friends have lives of their own, school and work. I realize times have changed, but there's no reason to be upset with Jill because she wasn't there.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 42 -- I have friends who have homeschooled their kids, and I've never heard of any of them doing anything that surpasses or even comes close to what public school kids are doing in high school (at least here in California), I hate to say.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone who adheres to this level of modesty can tell me -- what is wrong about showing the kneecap or the shoulder?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI think they had said that she wasn't feeling well that day.
Sisterly love! That's all they have for each other. There is no fighting in this family. They love each other and support each other and are there for each other. They can't always be together. Even poor Josh almost missed the wedding. They were taught at a young age to be close. That's so wonderful this family is so close. I hope the new family members can accept this families love for each other and how they will support each other and help each other.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what is going on in the Duggars, lives since all of the scandal with Josh? They seem to have dropped off the face of the earth. I miss the show.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could have see it on tv as I am in Ireland we did not get it here on our tlc or jill having her baby or jessa/ben wedding or the shows leading up to there big day I hope they put it on sometime on our tlc in Ireland god bless to baby seawald agreat irish fan love to all 4famlies
